We particularly liked the location of the hotel.
We were very grateful that the reception staff gave such a warm welcome on arrival.
The concierge was very helpful with directions and arranging taxis.
The room was very clean.
The spa treatment, foot massage was outstanding.
Lots of choice for breakfast. However, the breakfast area was crowded, and the coffee machine kept breaking down during our stay, meaning we had no coffee on two mornings.

The only good thing about this hotel is the view of you have a room facing the lake. Our lake view window in the room wouldn’t close properly. The bed was ok for comfort but quite high. The room was clean.
The property is incredibly dated. Its mass tourism affected with loads of tourist buses arriving constantly. There is no one available to help with bags when you arrive. The staff look like they’ve given up.
The dining room was chaos. On our first day, we couldn’t even find a seat to eat breakfast it was so busy at 7AM. The western breakfast option was very poor.
The Chinese food we had in the hotel restaurant at night was average. The chicken was tough. Luckily there are loads of restaurants near by the hotel to eat at instead.
I would not recommend this property. It’s barely 2 stars not 4.

Truly excellent house keeping staff especially house keeper no 711. She assisted with laundry and replaced everything I requested. The restaurant is open 24/7. The gym is located on floor 5 and is always clean. There is a large swimming pool on site. All taxi drivers have a speech translator. The hotel over looks the twin towers on the lake and has the best view. Significantly cheaper than the Sheraton hotel.

Can not adjust the room temperature

The aircond was centralized controlled by the hotel and cannot be adjusted from inside the room. We had a couple hot days even in mid Dec and the room was too warm. You can’t change the temperature. The staff did explain the restriction of room temperature control in a polite way but they are not prepared to make it more flexible for clients.
The window was also locked and can only be opened or closed by hotel staffs with a special key.
We had dinner at the hotel Chineses restaurant for the first evening and the food quality was not so good as a 5-star hotel. We ate outside for the rest of our stay.
Gym, spa and swimming pool open from 7am to 7pm. The operating hours seems quite limited.
Staffs are polite and nice but User friendliness of the hotel facilities seems not their priority.

A few things of this hotel make me disappointed: plastic hot water kettle is very old and its color has faded which makes me wonder if it is harmful to human health; no bottled shampoo but a cheap shampoo container attached to wall, no conditioner, no facial care kit. Everything looks old. the main elevators is slow and makes noisy. waiting for 10 minute for elevators seems everyday issue. So if you are rash, walk for half around the building to take another elevator which only gets you to the 3rd floor. What I like about this hotel is its LOCATION.

Conveniently located

It was very convenient to go around the pedestrian street with many shops and restaurants. The lakes are just across the road, with ticketing offices to cruise around the river and lakes.

When checking in, Mr. Chuen was very helpful in sourcing 3 rooms on the same floor for us as we had elderly and child at different rooms. This was really appreciated.

The standard of breakfast was average. Not much variation everyday and the taste was mediocre.

It was one of the best experience I has and my family members insisted that I write all beautiful things about this hotel because they felt the same. You can feel that the hotel considered every little details. We were wondering the whole time who designed and managed this hotel. And we were lucky enough to bump into the owner on our last day. She chose all the decorations herself which amazed us. We were first welcomed by the friendly staff at the reception, awed by the view from the room, and touched by the details of the hotel rolm that we noticed during our stay. It was a beautiful experience. Thank you。

Good location. Nice hotel however I had two stays with a one day away in the countryside. Second room was poor. TV and kettle didn’t work. Very little information in room regarding local attractions. Tour desk poor - conflicting information regarding some activities when I enquired on two separate days.

If you’re looking for a great room cheap. Must go.

This hotel was in a great neighborhood, close to the river and all the markets and restaurants. A Starbucks was just around the corner and the mall was a few short blocks away.
Unfortunately the waterfall part of the hotel was not working but the staff was great and courteous. Very fast check in and room was big and clean with all the amenities.
Great deal, and they exchange money there too. Faster and less work then B.O.C.

Hotel lobby and rooms are nice. Very few staff speak English. Had we not had an individual in our party who spoke fluent Mandarin, we would not have been able to navigate our stay.
Also, although we had non-smoking rooms, several hotel guests smoked, but nothing was done to stop the smokers.
The spa was clean, but they also allowed smoking. Again, if one did not speak Mandarin, it would have been very difficult to obtain services.
Breakfast buffet was separated into Asian and Western. The Asian buffet was not worth the 80 RMB: quality of food was not very good, coffee was cold.

The sun and moon pagodas. Although on a non-smoking floor there was quite a strong smell of smoke in the corridors which wasn’t very pleasant. The room was good, no complaints. Restaurants in the hotel no atmosphere and food not great. Would stay again because of location but would recommend eating out.

Good, except some noise

Our room has no view of outside. The window is looking down to the lobby of the hotel.
At staff would be pushing a good trolley across the huge lobby, causing loud noise early in the morning, 5 am. This can be improved. Otherwise, everything is well. Why is the escalator from the street level to the lobby not working throughout our stay? Considering this is a 5-star hotel...

We had a delightful stay at your Guilin Lijiang Waterfall Hotel. The hotel lobby and room were a bit dated, but quite clean and comfy. The surrounding lake and ancient Chinese Pagodas were stunningly beautiful.

The Hotel rooms are not lit. Even with all lights on and heating up the already stuffy room, light levels remain at barely optimal levels. Air conditioning cannot be controlled. Staff do not understand English, even the receptionists. There is no fan within the bathroom, resulting in an extremely stuffy and uncomfortable situation.
Location and the exquisite waste of water for the waterfall are the only redeeming features.
The bottle of free water that was provided was WARM because their air conditioning is set to he extremely hot.

Als having gotten our room changed, to an outside facing room with small window slits, rooms facing the hotels interior are dark.

Ideal location for short stay

Hotel is centrally located and is within walking distance to Elephant Hill and across the street from the lake which is beautifully lit at night. Around the corner is a pedestrian path which leads to restaurants and stalls selling snacks and trinkets. The stalls are all similiar, nothing special. However, there is a snack which looks and tastes similiar to Rice Krispees and I really enjoyed it. There is a Chinese Restaurant (Li River Cuisine) on the right when you walk out of the front of the hotel which is quite good. We had breakfast there and it is reasonable and there are non spicy items available. Like other reviewers mentioned, hotel needs updating, our carpet was dirty and we requested a nonsmoking room but it still stank of smoke. Ashtray was present in the room. Hotel can organize tours but we chose to go elsewhere as it was more expensive. Regardless, because it is a large hotel, bus pickup was available if you choose to cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo and it was included in the price. The waterfall effect show is impressive. I would recommend this hotel because of the location.

Hotel marvellously sited , overlooking the lake with the sun and moon pagodas. Walking into our room with a river view was unforgettable ! The situation was wonderful , we were able to walk to several parks with viewpoints easily. The pedestrian shopping street was just around the corner. The swimming pool was lovely. The waterfall show was amazing. All in all it was a lovely place to stay!

Our overall stay was more than adequate. The location was excellent and the scenery was fantastic-day and night. It was also adjacent to a bustling day/night life. The room was very well equipped. However, we needed to change it because the carpet was aweful. That is why we gave it a low rating on cleanliness. After looking into several rooms with the same issue, the hotel staff upgraded us with a somewhat better carpet. The manager was very helpful, yet we think it had been some time he had seen these rooms. Don't deter yourself from booking your stay here if you plan to take the Li River cruise next day.

Area was great walking distance to night market and shops. Staff not overly helpful, room was a decent size but smelled of mold and mildew, air conditions didn't work well, carpet dirty. Mildew around sink in bathroom. Towels had multiple areas where they were thread bear. Bed hard and uncomfortable. Put us in an area with many children and it was loud with children screaming and running down the hall. I had the impression they use rooms that aren't as nice for people who book through this website. Because the pictures when you check in for a standard room are different than the room I booked. Even the halls were darker carpet dingier

It is amazing location next pedestrian street and very nice lake view, the only I do complain is I got bedbug bit and I found one bedbug on bed and runing, I call the room service ask them look the bedbugs, they only change the bed sheet and send me a cheap fruit basket, I through it to garbage and move out next morning.

Hotel is very old, it felt like it was modern in the 60's or 70's and hasn't been updated since. Conditions are fairly typical for a Chinese hotel in a smaller town that is not affiliated with a Western chain. The waterfall itself is VERY overrated.

The hotel was adequate and seems to be well maintained however they only have 3 lobby elevators that can only hold 7-8 people at most.
Although we had a small incident with trying to use the concierge we learned that it was more of a language barrier than anything else and they made up for it and asked how they could better communicate to English speakers.
Overall, a good experience.

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. The hotel is located right next to one of the few lakes in down town and near the Li River, it's also right next to the open air night market where there are a ton of places to eat and drink. We spent a lot of time walking next to the lakes and rivers which are beautiful during the day and had plenty of options for food and drink in the evening. The hotel itself is solid, the room was pretty big, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the staff spoke good english. If I were going back to Guilin, I would have no problem staying here again. The fact that this hotel also doubles as a waterfall everynight is kinda funny as well. Well worth checking out once even if your not staying here.

Nice hotel but commercial

This hotel is nice but it is extremely large. You don't get a warm welcome or personal experience because of the size. There are probably a lot of great things going on in and around the hotel that you just don't get informed about because there are so many people coming through and the staff just can't take their time with you. They don't offer you direction to the various elevator options to get you closer to your room, so you could walk all the way around the place to get to where you stated.

Nice but would probably stay someplace else if I go back to this area.

When I arrived my reservation in Hotels.com was not registered.As I had the receipts and copies they were very polite and gave me the room that I booked.The hotel had an excellent heated pool and fitness room. The room and bathroom were very adequate.I would return with pleasure to this hotel.

Convenient Location

Hotel is centrrally located, close to Shuan lake and Elephant Trunk Hill. There is a walking street behind the hotel for shopping and street foods at nihgt. It's within walking distance to Elephant Trunk Hill. The room is small but clean. The staff at the front desk is no help at all. It's like \"sorry, you are on your own\". It appears that they are not there to help guests. They just want to sell you expensive tours. Also make sure that you bring cash. We were told that the credit card machine was broken and had to pay cash for our plane tickets.

We stayed here for one night when touring China... We arrived just in tune to watch the waterfall on the outside of the hotel. The rooms were very well decorated and kept, and the staff were very eager to help. I'd greatly recommend this, as the value-for-money here is great!

Water what?

I was looking forward of the Guinness record holder \"waterfall\" hotel and it was disappointing when I found out this so called man made waterfall nothing but everyday 15 minutes water coming down from the top off hotel to the bottom washing through the whole wall of the hotel.Really??
Other that this the hotel is in great location,nice staff and over priced breakfast . We arranged a river cruise through the hotel which was wonderfull if I don't mention the time was from 8:20- 6 or 7 pm until the other couples in the minivan desided to watch the evening show starting at 8pm.So how we'll get back? Or how they 'll get back? The tourguide told us we can take the public bus back to the hotel.This is not excactly what we paid for around 900yuen pp.Then we learned that there is a cormorant fishing show beside the theatre and for our happiness it was great and we have arrived back to hotel close to midnight.The location is great.

Nice Hotel - Good Value

The Guilin Waterfall Hotel is a very nice hotel. The rooms are fine and clean. The hotel has several restaurants, including one that serves Western food. The hotel has a nice bar as well as several shops. The breakfast buffet has plenty of options. The hotel is located in the heart of Guilin and right across the main lake with several pagodas which are beautifully lit at night. Additionally, there are some nice restaurants alongside the hotel (facing the lake), but beware as the menus are only in Chinese (with pictures of the food options). There are several very nice sights to see Guilin, but make sure to book the 1 day tour of the Li River to see the beautiful karst formations. This can be done when you get there.

Waterfall Hotel in Guilin

The location of this hotel is very good. The river-view from our room was excellent. The staff was friendly and efficient. Not all staff speaks good English and some misunderstandings do occur, but there is enough staff that master English very well.

Great choice for a stay in Guilin

An excellent hotel, quite luxurious for the setting. Great location. Breakfast is pricey and there are many better options--both Western and Oriental-- in the shopping street just around the corner. The Waterfall gimmick is cute, but not worth scheduling your evening activities around. Quality of English among hotel staff is variable, though there are enough people to communicate with if you run into any real issues. Don't count on tour desk to be particularly helpful about English-speaking tours--there aren't even any brochures in English; there is a concession at the airport when you arrive that I would recommend instead if you come without any prearranged tours as we did.
