Everything was absolutly amazing. Especially Wendy was great - always around but never to pushy/intrusive. Rooms & Facilities feel new and on a high standard. Absolutly recommending the Ocean Pool Villas and the direct entry of the house riff. You can see sharks, stingrays and eagle sharks as well as a lot of other fishs.

Staff - Very friendly and helpful . I was assigned a lifestyle host that was super helpful and convenient throughout the trip.

Food & Drinks - you will always be well fed if you have all inclusive. Although taste wasn't that great.

Activities - quite a bit of water sports, indoor sports and outdoors .

Things to look out for: Even in All Inclusive package, prepare yourself to spend another 1/4 of package price for activities and rest of the things.

Water sports that are included in the package and next to none, for anything worth experiencing like Jet ski, snorkeling, and scuba diving, you will have to pay decent amount.

Spa - only included if you are staying 7 or more nights.

Complimentary photography - the photographer will be given to you for 30 minutes as a complimentary, HOWEVER, only one printed photo will be given, rest of the photo will not be given unless you pay up not even digital photos.

Point being, is that everything is very smartly packaged to get you to spend good amount of money even in all inclusive. Kudos to folks who planned it but at some point it felt like they were banking on your emotions given that most people there are on honeymoon and will be helpless but to spend.

Holiday with my wife.

This is probably the most best of the Maldivian Island resorts, we had a beach fronted villa which was very private and perfectly appointed.
We stayed for 5 nights after having been in Thailand for 11 days, for us 5 days was enough as all you can do is relax do a bit of water activity and walk round the Island which took 15 minutes.

I should've been did this review in Sept 2021 when went for our honeymoon Rm 262. I seem to can't get this place out of my head and want to go back. Hands down from beginning to end, the staff met every need and made sure we were good. They were excellent! Very welcoming and friendly. The food was really good and our over water villa was beautiful. I heard they are doing some renovations. When it's complete we will definitely revisit.

I do not usually write reviews however Veligandu is an absolute gem! The island is breathtaking, the staff and service feels so personalised, the food is amazing and the weather unbelievable! My girlfriend and I are talking about our stay everyday since we got back. The island has everything to offer, we had quite relaxed days on the beach, incredible snorkelling with turtles and reef sharks to great party nights at the hotels bar. We cannot wait to go back next year although we will have to wait until after the renovations.

The location was lovely , beaches and Island verdure were also fabulous .

We stayed in a water bungalow which was clean and spacious on the west ,sea ward , side of the Island. It benefitted from the sea breeze and sunsets .

The food was excellent , buffet style , of a good quality and varied .

Staff were obliging , obviously trained to be so .

The sea plane transfer is an added cost (£650) and we had to wait 90 min for arriving passengers from other destinations to fill it before it would leave . This was irritating after travelling for 16 hours .

The resort is dated and tired and does need an upgrade which is apparently happening shortly.

I love this resort. Worth the 18 hr flight from Toronto. Seaplane transfer was hassle-free.

I booked an over the water villa (with a hot tub with a view of the ocean), full board (3 meals at buffet), no alcohol or drinks (except for coffee and whatever juice they have at the time). Each mango juice costed me $4 US a pop. Items in mini bar not included. Items, like souvenirs, you buy get charged to the room.

I loved the over the water villa. So private and there were stairs out to the water (low tide in the am, high in the pm). There were crabs all the time on the deck (one and a couple on the steps). They try to avoid you. Transformer was provided, AC, TV. Far walk but it's what you get if you want seclusion. Island is so small though (love it).

Food at Dhonveli and wi-fi were great. I really only need those two things to be happy. I didn't see too much seafood, but I don't like those anyway.

From your deck, you can snorkel and see plenty of different varities of fish. Saw a shark and a couple of sting rays from my deck.

Staff is warm and helpful.

I travelled on my own and felt really safe. I could leave my phone/wallet at my table with no concerns at Dhonveli.

Resort-specific stuff: Bring your own plastic bag for wet clothes. Resort tries to be environmentally conscious so no plastic bags available. Don't bring shoes you don't want to get sand in.

I had a really special experience and plan on going back next year but maybe in April instead of May.

Wow, we went here for our 30th anniversary and we were not disappointed! Veligandu is absolutely amazing. The word paradise is often over used, but it is a truly fitting description. Everything was perfect; the staff, the services, the amenities, the facilities, the food, the atmosphere and the romance. It is a picture right out of a travel magazine. The island is a good size. There were times we were out on the beach by ourselves. It's almost like a private island! This is if you go during the rainy season though (which isn't that rainy). I'm sure the peak season is busier. My only complaint is that the beds are not that comfortable. Was expecting better. I give it 4 of 5 stars.

Of all my travel experiences, going to the Maldives was the most stress free and truly relaxing experience. And Veligandu Resort really made sure that was the case. The staff are super friendly, everyone always greets you as you pass by. The whole resort is very well organized. We didn't have to wait long for any of the services and the whole atmosphere was laid back and relaxing. My mom and I had a wonderful time staying at this resort. And the food is AMAZING. It's comparable to a really good restaurant in the city (I live in San Francisco). The drinks were really well mixed as well. There really is nothing to complain about this resort. The staff took care of us so that we didn't have to worry about anything. It was refreshing for a change to have such a stress free travels.

First at all, don’t read the negative reviews, We been staying in soo many resorts around the world including 5 diamonds, but we never experience the quality of customer service of this one, First at all is not old as some of the reviews said, the rooms are good and the jet tub is amazing! We have the water chance every day and the check the room was with the highest standards of cleanest twice per day, we were there for our honeymoon and the staff prepare our rooms with a beautiful handmade decoration in the bed, plus they gave us a bottle of sparkling wine the first night to celebrate , a beautiful cake and a very nice gift. Gasim our concierge was above and beyond, every time I ask for something, Gasim make it happen right away the have our CoVID test ready and even they print copies for us, I can’t describe the level of attention and welcome that the staff gave us. Food was perfect every day the have a different buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner and every day is different, they have amazing desserts and a chef who grill your food as you prefer, we recommend full board is completely worthy and if you drink go all the way for all inclusive every dollar is worthy I promise. Water activities are really awesome, we did the jet skies and our tour give was with us all the time we feel so safe because he was showing us the way and how to do it. We had a lot of fun !! Is something that you don’t want to miss for sure

Rest and relaxation in Veligandu.

Our stay in Veligandu lived up to our expectations and exceeded them. The sunset water villa was over a shallow area where we could swim anytime, bordered by a reef alive with many fish for enjoyable snorkeling. The service at the resort is top notch, including the reception, restaurant, bar and spa. The resort took care of our every need with professionalism. We took a snorkeling trip, jet ski trip, and I went scuba diving. If you are lucky like I was, you can scuba under manta rays as they swim around you. We would easily go back to Veligandu. It seems to be smaller than many other Maldives resorts but is not lacking in quality or service.

The hotel has made a great effort to create a 'normal' feeling under COVID restrictions and the staff were excellent, whilst maintaining protocol. The place itself is an older Island but with great natural beaches and reefs (unlike the new man made ones). We prefer the more natural Island experience, hence this was great for us.
Great reef for snorkeling and calm beaches for swimming. I was surprised at how goo a condition the reef was in and there was an abundance of marine life.
Food was excellent quality and there was a good choice of western and local options (under COVID restrictions). However the breakfast choice was somewhat limited (compared to the lunch and dinner options).

Only blemish on the trip (for my wife) was that there was no shower cap - which is more necessary if you're in and out of the sea all the time... :)

This trip stands out amongst quite a bit of travel as one of the best I've ever taken!
Every detail at Veligandu is well considered and executed. The staff are friendly, engaging and provide top quality service. The facilities are great, all you could want.
And the food was delicious. Plentiful choice and variety, all so tasty and to a very high quality.

Love the size of the hotel and island. Small, intimate and private. Seaplane transfer is part of the fun and the length of time to get there is good (not too long, about 20 minutes). Beautiful beaches and good snorkeling. Buffet is ok. Not there for great food. There is something for everyone. The Thundi Bar is lovely. Great to hang out and relax with a drink or two. The room is comfortable and large. Would not call it luxury or five stars. We have a jacuzzi water villa. A sunset jacuzzi water villa would have been better. It wasn’t available at the time.

There are very few locations in the world that live up to it’s brochure / marketing information or photographs. This resort does. A short but exciting seaplane flight will bring you from the capital and International Airport in Male. instantly you arrive on the jetty you will be impressed with the environment the beautiful clear Green potion above the coral teaming with wildlife. Spectacular beauty in 22 acres -- small enough to be walkable and tranquil, yet large enough for fun activities and lots of areas for relaxing. Such clear and warm turquoise ocean water for swimming and snorkeling. The pool was relaxing and refreshing. The food was excellent with many bountiful options on the buffet. Our over water villa was beautiful and well-equipped. Attentive and friendly staff. They went out of their way for my birthday with special touches. The spa was wonderful and relaxing for massages. The entertainment in the bar was very professional, especially Moosa Samaau. If you are looking for paradise in the Maldives, this is it! The service, staff, facilities, accommodations, food were all exceptional! We dove several days and the sites were close, healthy and teeming with large schools of fish, seeing numerous reef sharks, eagle rays and eels on every dive. Dive shop is well organized, professional and extremely helpful. They make diving effortless!! Special shout out to Alice and Nooh -thanks for your kindness and expertise! Wish you were closer than 24 hours away!!!

It was my 2nd visit to Maldives, and much better experience this time than the first one in 2000. This resort is an ideal size, not too big not too small, and room was comfortable and clean. Need to swim further for better snorkeling experience but we aren't such a big water sports fan anyhow. Staff were helpful on our requests and food were fine for 4 days staying even it was only at one restaurant.

Still perfect - My second stay

This is my second stay at the resort and hopefully wont be the last. For a second year in a row everything was perfect. This has to be the most relaxing place on earth. Few pointers if you're planning to go there:

- It's a very small island with only the standard things to do (eating, swimming, snorkeling, SPA$$$). There are excursion$ on a daily basis but don't expect to spend a day to \"go explore the place\". That will only take 5 minutes.

- The \"all inclusive\" package gives you two free tours compares to the full board. Dolphin sight seeing (don't miss it, really worth it) and a choice between the village or another resort. Last year, we went to the village and to be honest it is not really worth it.

- Unless you're planing to go to the gym or on an island hoping tour, don't bring a ton of shoes. I walked barefoot from the time I got off the sea plane to the time I got back in. 80% of the people (and a lot of staff) walk barefoot all day. That includes the restaurant which is on sand.

- Don't forget sunscreen. Even if you're one of these people \"that don't burn easily\", you will there. The sun is somehow quite harsh

- If you like to snorkel, get an app to check the tides. Current is quite strong on the restaurant side (best spot) and wouldn't advise going during a tide change.

- Unfortunately, the coral is bleached everywhere around the island. But there's a lot of colorful fish. You'll see many reef sharks for up close. I also saw a few rays and a sea turtle.

An Ideal Antidote to Winter

This was our second trip to the Maldives, although the first to Veligandu, and it lived up to our expectations: a tropical island surrounded by white sand, warm clear water and blue skies (mostly – it did rain a couple of times but nothing compared to a cold, grey winter's day back home!). We had a Water Villa, which was clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate for our needs, and from the deck we had a few good sightings of rays and other fish as they swam past. However, our best marine viewing was with our masks and snorkels, and that was excellent: rays, sharks, turtles, squid, octopus and thousands of fish – the snorkelling was what we had really been looking forward to and we were very pleased with what we saw. The one caveat was the coral, which has unfortunately suffered bleaching and some damage, but that is largely due to the global problem of rising sea temperatures, not the fault of the Veligandu management or staff, who were extremely diligent. In the bars and main (buffet) restaurant we had very good and personable service, and the quality and selection of food was superb.

Other things to mention: our package included a free introductory massage in the spa, which was very pleasant but not something we would necessarily seek out. There was also the opportunity to go on a back of house tour, including the water desalination plant, laundry, power generators and waste treatment area, which was fascinating and well worth doing.

Nice hotel on the water

I had a very good experience: quiet, ecologic, excellent buffet but need to improve the wine list poor and not good choice ( for a 5 stars you expect the presence of a sommelier who is doing pairing and giving advices to customers). Room is comfortable but need a renovation, furniture is not welcoming . The decorations are poor, no
personal touch, no flowers in the bathroom or bed but very clean but staff is really
nice. Overall I had a great time in this hotel I appreciate the philosophy: no shoes no news. I also recommend to invest in solar energy in order to limit the bad smell of the fuel in the middle of the island and mostly to reduce the cost of electricity. I will definitely recommend this hotel .

Wonderful stay.

Wonderful stay. Room was cleaned twice a day and staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was ample and delicious, although we would have liked a wider variety of seafood (e.g. shrimp, crab, etc.). Fish was the only option, for the most part. Villas and resort in general are well kept, clean and beautiful. This place is perfect for peace, quiet, and relaxation. Night entertainment is dull.
Snorkeling is easy, and coral reefs are accessible. Unfortunately, the corals are bleached (a common condition in the Maldives), but there is plenty of sea life. We encountered sea turtles, manta rays, moray eels, blacktip sharks, etc.

Actually I stayed in this wonderful resort for my honeymoon during 5 days/4nights. My wife is Korean and me French. We read lot of review about this resort and some are really bad, I just thing the bad review is not justificate at all, the food is amazing, everyday the food type change, of course not all, it's buffet but most of them is variety and the team cook or waiter take a lot of precious time to speak with all costumers, I have my own restaurant inn Seoul, I just have to say this resort is great.
I was also read that the resort charge some extra charge an de we have to pay as bad surprise! No way, there is not extracharge, everything is writing such when you book by divers website, I took the full package, I could get 15 Mn massage for free, so I upgrated with divers option, don't complain simple tourist, it's 15 Mn so just take it and move to you right room!
Also with this full package, I go to some divers free tours( I could wash dolphins, sun set...), kayaking, I got lot of option in the drink menu, coktail(delicious), wine, soft drink, snake 24 hours a days! Every night there was some divers concerts, parti.... it was good enough to enjoy my time with my wife.

All staff in the island is nice , polite, professional.

We wanted things to be perfect for our honeymoon. My fiance was worried about the cosmetic effect of \"sea walls\" and almost excluded this resort from our list of possibilities because of them. Let me be very clear.....the sea walls are on a small part of the island and do NOT obstruct the natural beauty at all. The hotel surpassed expectations. The food was unbelievable. As it is an all-inclusive, we were expecting to pay for a private dinner on the beach. The restaurant and food were so good, however, that we scrapped that idea and did a couples massage instead. The staff was super friendly and knew our names and room number after day 1. The reef was gorgeous and we were able to see dolphins, sting rays, reef and nursery sharks (both safe), sea turtles, and more all just by walking down the steps from our private balcony. The room was clean, modern, and the internet was fast enough to video chat/skype home without delay or check internet without difficulty. Each room is allowed 2 devices online at any given time, but switching from a phone to laptop was very easy. Veligandu certainly earns all 5 stars. I hope those who read this review have as perfect a time as we did. I'm certain that if you select Veligandu, the resort will do everything possible to ensure you do.

You get what you pay for! Good value

Veligandu starts out at a disadvantage because I have been to much nicer resorts in the Maldives, but then again, I paid more for them.

Pros: Value, food, bartenders, entertainment, room comfort and size

Cons: All Inclusive has lots of exclusions, well alcohol and house wine are poor quality. Dead coral from the reef makes it hard to stand in the ocean without some kind of water shoe. This was true both off our water villa and at the beach.

Bartenders were great, but the rest of the staff didn't resemble the reviews I had read. Their limited English was matched only by their limited ability to smile. The training really could be a lot better. Example: I asked for a coke with ice during breakfast. Taken aback, the waiter said they don't serve Coke at breakfast and walked away. No apology, and no effort to make sense of the fact that I could walk 200 feet to the bar and get the coke myself! Pet peeve: You cannot get cold drinks of any kind at breakfast. Water and juices are at room temperature and asking for ice (which I did every day) was promptly ignored. The issue goes away magically at lunch and you can have all the ice and cold beverages you want. Training.

The sad part is that these small incidents (they charge for renting snorkeling masks, for example, which other all inclusive don't) that could easily be avoided with training kind of stick out over a week. Another example: I understand the house wine has to be cheap, but why not offer 3 reds and 3 whites?

Our vacation at Veligandu was simply magical. The island itself is beautiful, with stunning views pretty much anywhere you look. The staff, including guest services, housekeeping, food and beverage, dive shop, & spa, were so friendly, efficient, & inviting. We opted for the honeymoon package at the spa & we highly recommend availing yourself of their services! We chose the all-inclusive package & I think it's the only way to go. I was a little nervous about the food, as AI packages often disappoint in this area, but the food at the buffet was always varied & tasty. There really is something for everyone. The alcohol included in the AI package, while limited, was more than sufficient for our tastes. We also chose to have a lobster dinner on the beach at the Madivaru restaurant for my birthday & it was quite romantic. The service was excellent. The only disappointment was the lobster itself. They served us each half of a tail & it was quite mushy. But everything else was perfect, so we were willing to forgive that error. We are divers & the diving was some of the best we have ever done! the dive shop staff were friendly & we loved the small groups for every dive (one dive was just the 2 of us on the entire boat). While the diving was the most expensive we've seen, it was well worth it. Our villa itself was quite comfortable (jacuzzi water villa), but could use a few minor updates. we highly recommend Veligandu and plan to return within 2 years!

We am glad to chose this resort for our honeymoon. We had amazing experience despite the fact that we came during the Mansoon season. Staff made sure that we have everything we need. Buffet had always new selection of dishes. Resort is very clean. If you wanna chose a package, go with the all inclusive and you would be happy. They would even include excursions for free that would kept us busy throughout the stay. They didnt take advantage of us and jacked up the prices when we needed to purchace things we need or rent equipment. I am really happy to chose this resort and I would come back for sure. Thanks Azeem, Satto, Ali, and all who made sure that our stay was amazing.

The restaurant ensured special indian veg food is made available for all meals for us, we being only vegetarian indians at that time. This island has a great vibe. Very chilled out yet the service is attentive, which is impressive. Our overwater villa had alot of privacy and was well equipped.

The food and drinks package included in the all inclusive rate is generous and the buffet menus have a good variety. The live cooking station featuring the catch of the day was a highlight and in general the quality and flavour is excellent.

We snorkelled around the island, and despite the coral not being as colourful as other places that we've been, the number of fish that you can see is amazing.

We are genuinely sad to leave but it is definitely a matter of when we will come back, not if.

Excellent for honeymoon! This resort is much more beautiful than its picture! All staff were nice! Food was tasty and high quality! One negative comment is that most of their house reef and coral are dead! If you want to see a more beautiful sea life, you need to have a boat trip snorkeling tour!

This was a beautiful, serene, quiet resort. Service was excellent and food was delicious. My only comment is that this is a very quiet resort with not much to do in the evenings. If you're looking for more to do this wouldn't be the resort for you to stay at. We had a lovely time.

This hotel is fantastic. Highly recommend staying at the hotel. For our trip we tried to utilize Expedia's best price guarantee claim form but it was not submitting so when I tried to resolve it despite the agents acknowledging that their systems might not have been working due to a system update I was out of luck. Customer service for the resort was great though and I would expect if I had worked with them they would have been more helpful in working toward a resolution. Definitely will return to the resort and recommend you should to but I will be booking direct for all future trips.
