It is like staying in a well appointed 17th century mansion. The fournitures are beautiful, particularly in the dining room. The breakfast is excellent with many choices and service at the table. The facility might be challenging for people with limites mobility because of the old fashioned stairs and bathtub.

We only stayed for one night whilst the Christmas market was on. Hotel is very convenient to the centre and trams are a short walk away. The gentleman on reception was lovely and very helpful. Lots of interesting traditional furniture and artefacts in the hotel. Room was large with a modern bathroom.

If you like the history, it is the place.

It is an historic hotel with many antiquities in the décoration. The location is perfect near the canal. It is quiet but there is no escalator and the room was on the 5th floor.
The beakfast was included and we liked the food.
But ithe price for a night is a bit expensive. The owner was a gentleman .

Lovely stay in an amazing property. Big double room with a view over the garden, great breakfast and good location for walking around Ghent.
The property is very old and packed with antiques and artefacts. It is clean and the room was made up each day but it’s individual and lived in which we appreciated. Would recommend.

This hotel has a lot of character. I hear when people say it could benefit from some modernization, but not at the expense of making it another cookie-cut hotel. It os definitely a wonderful choice for travelers looking for experiences, rather than for tourist looking for the standard Marriott. In addition, Peter, the hotellier is quite a character, efficient, professional and nice personality. I would stay here again if I come back to Ghent.

I was going to give 1 star review for the property but the breakfast was actually good, so 2 stars overall. Everything is very old in the hotel. We got a room on the 3rd floor. No elevator, nobody to help with the luggage. Beds squeak whenever you move. No air-conditioning. If you open the window, too much noise from outside. Garbage truck comes at 6:30 and for 15 min there is banging.

The hotel is in a very good location, close to many of the main attractions, shopping and dining areas. The hotel itself is an old building which has been decorated in keeping with its age. Loved the quirky historic character of this hotel, which has wonderfully central location, and the staff were excellent. The huge bedroom overlooking the garden was amazing but needs better lighting (as does the dining room) and some furniture was a bit tired; the drapes over the bed were also a bit dusty. Good breakfast in a beautiful room, but the unless you have a table by the window the light is rather gloomy, especially in early February. Would love to return in the summer!

Old house, small quiet hotel with great location

This hotel is in an old house,with a good location near historic area. It is not elegant, but the staff are great, the breakfast is free (and excellent) and I would recommend it for individuals and families who want a small quiet place to stay. There is no elevator, however. As I found everywhere in Belgium, the staff all speak English and are happy to use it with visitors.

Very convenient location, in historical city center close to Het Pand (where my conference was held). Period building with clean room and quiet, but dated furnishings. There is no lift (you may need to walk up to 3 stories to your room and so it may not be suitable for travelers with heavy luggage).Excellent Breakfast and friendly staff, fluent in English (I arrived early because of 8am flight arrival, and they gave me the room before 10am, which is something that large chains like the Marriott hotel across the road rarely does!). Very convenient (There is an Italian restaurant a few steps next to the hotel with excellent dinner).

The staff here were lovely, the location is an easy walk to the historic center and the breakfast was good! I'd stay here again, but for those a little pickier, some items are dated and had stains. The light above my bed, which was low enough that I bumped it standing near the bed, had a serious coat of dust on the top (reachable by me easily, so shouldn't be difficult to clean) and the bathroom fan was dropping dust bunnies on the back of the toilet. Other than those two things, I saw no signs anything else was unclean though.

The location is the best. Just outside of the busy town and very easy walking distance. This hotel is 500 plus years old so if you are looking for luxury this is not your place. The rooms have an authentic feel and you need to climb steep stairs. The breakfast is made and served in an amazing room where you are surrounded by historical and original works of art. The manager of hotel has worked there for 20 years and is very passionate about your enjoyment and comfort.

Great location, very good breakfast each morning. Hotel seems to be a very old converted house so no elevator with multi-level staircase. We were on the top floor so a bit of a walk up and down a few times a day. Rooms are no frills including the bathroom. Everything was clean. Good price.

Perfect place to stay in Ghent !

Wonderful little hotel in a charming 16th century building, perfectly situated for walks around the city. Aside from the Musée des Beaux-Arts, everything I wanted to see was within a 10-minute leisurely walk. And even the Musée was only 20-25 minutes away on foot. People at the hotel were super nice, the breakfast was delicious - all you can eat with tasty croissants, a variety of yogurt and hams, a station for hard-boiling an egg, and decent coffee. Americans need to be prepared for a small bathroom, but by European standards it was quite spacious. Super speedy WiFi was a bonus. Even though it is located near the town's center, the hotel itself was quiet and calm.

My stay was just great! The hotel was a 16yr old hotel, and it was just respiring history! It had lots of actual facilities as it had a mini-bar and a television in my room with a suite., etc No elevator, but personal helped me with carrying my suitcase to the first floor. The breakfast was very good!

The hotel is in a fantastic location and the room size is great.
Parking in nearby parking garage.
We were in a family room and the beds had blankets which set me of scratching my skin and my husband was sneezing away. But the beds were comfortable. 3 TV channels only.
We had 2 towels for 4 people and the shower leaked which left everything on the floor wet.
Breakfast was basic but more than adequate.
If this hotel was given a modernisation it would be fantastic.

Totally charming; very near city center

Extremely gracious and helpful staff. This is an old Dutch house dating from the 1600s that has been updated. Immaculately clean. Breakfast is sumptuous - 3 kinds of meats, 3 kinds of cheeses, eggs that you can cook a variety of ways, 6 kinds of breads, fruit, juices, etc. - but the real magic is that it is served in a dining room that looks like it came out of a painting from the 1600s. Would definitely stay here again - & recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Each room is unique, but one needs to be able to climb the wooden stairs as there is no elevator. The rooms are very clean, but one needs to remember that this is a building that is very old. The breakfast room is delightful and the food was good. We stayed for 3 nights and truly enjoyed ourselves and the location is perfect.

Under-rated hotel. Why not 3 stars? Great large room with fine bathroom. Nicely retro decorated hotel, in line with Ghent history. Good breakfast included in rate. WIFI in room works very well, in lobby not. Easy to find, right behind Mariott hotel. 5 minutes walk from tram and bus. Plenty of fine restaurants, many historical places and all shopping streets within 1 km circle. Only the lady at check out should improve her customer-friendliness...than it would be perfect.

What a surprise to find this immaculately cleaned, vaulted ceilinged generously large room centrally located in Ghent. Charming staff, lovely garden-side breakfast room with generous continental fare. Quiet street walking distance from major historic sites, shopping, and the altarpiece for which Ghent is so famous. Small staff, sort of on your own with a key to main door at odd hours, but suited us perfectly.

Location, Comfort, and Great Customer Service!

The Eurasmus Hotel is situated in a beautiful, old, historic building. And the location is perfect for seeing the city of Ghent on foot. You are in the middle of everything. The room was fairly small and basic, but this tends to be the norm when you travel around Europe. We had Room 7 which was in the back up three flights of stairs. There was no real view from that room, but because it was in the back, it was extremely quiet and we both got a great night's sleep for the two overnights we were there.We really dislike the big chain hotels where it's all slick and modern (AKA \"boring\"). We like the smaller, more independently run places like this with lots of character. And more importantly, that personal touch. Dorine Lasoen, the woman that runs the hotel was extremely helpful and courteous. She was always on hand to answer any questions, give directions, or suggest the perfect place for dinner. Breakfast is included and served up in a gorgeous dining room filled with beautiful oil paintings and antiques with windows overlooking the garden. It's your standard European breakfast fare. Selections of meats, cheese, breads, yogurts, along with croissants fresh out of the oven. We would definitely stay here again!

Sleeping amongst history

I was drawn to the hotel due to its history. It did not disappoint. The rooms were a little dated, but very cosy and warm. My room was large and had lovely chairs. The bathroom was freshg and clean. THe location is fantastic, 2 mins to the old town, close to everything you would want to see for a short stay. The breakfast was simple, but I did get to eat with a suit of armour so matched my theme. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was no lift so keep the lugguage light.

We were only in Ghent for one night at the Davis cup but we intend to go back and would definitely book this hotel again. This hotel had a distinctive architectural style and our room had old wooden beams supporting the roof. The only niggle was with the overbath mixer shower rather than a wall mounted over with shower screen. The staff were very helpful and breakfast was good.

Quaint, quiet, and quite the deal.

I chose Ghent because of the festival although I am not, one might say, fond of large crowds. The staff at the hotel turned out to be absolutely wonderful in helping me find my way both into the maelstrom and into quieter byways. The hotel is quaint, which means old, and that is it's charm. If you want big fluffy towels and designer shampoo, go somewhere else. This is for the traveler who knows when he or she sees a good deal -- and the Hotel Erasmus is a good deal. Nice neighborhood, too. Just one street and bridge away from the action, but very near to exceptional restaurants and views.

After not being able to enter the hotel on Sunday between 6 & 8 pm due to the minimum staffing levels (keeps the price down) this is a lively clean old building with lots of character. my room (7) was spacious with possibly the largest bathroom I had in a hotel. The breakfasts were adequate in a splendid room with views over a formal enclosed garden.
The hotel is located on a quiet street and only a short walk to the centre and tram routes.

Gammalt hus med gammal inredning. Sängen väldigt sliten. Väldigt trevlig personal. Perfekt läge på en tyst gata men bara någon minuts promenad från st michelskyrkan och massor med restauranger. We vonden de kamer wel wat somber en de badkamer heeft een renovatie nodig.
