The staff was welcoming, thoughtful and bilingual. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The all-inclusive buffet was plentiful and delicious and it changed daily. The pool is large and lovely, but it needed a cleaning, which happened the day we left. The tours were fun and we saw lots of wildlife. Highly recommend!

Gamboa Rainforest Reserve was an excellent place to stay and experience the wonders of the rainforest in Panama. Rooms were very clean and had all amenities as advertised. Pool was an excellent oasis after walks or fishing on the lake. Meals and customer service were also very good and many options were available.

The best part about this trip was the staff.
We did a hotel takeover and it was amazing.
The rooms were nice. Definitely humid but do-able. Alchol was really good for all inclusive. The food was hit-or-miss. The pool a was cool. We also did the the excursions as part of our all inclusive package.
Overall I give it a 7/8 out of 10

This resort has so much potential but if they don't jump on it, the Gamboa will wither away. You can tell this was once (in the early 2000's) the IT PLACE to be. The views from the balcony are just perfect. But that is the only thing that is perfect. Once you're at the resort, you either have to have a rental or excursions planned to leave the property. There is NOTHING nearby. The town of Gamboa is a short walk, but they only have one store/restaurant that is not worth leaving the resort for. The resort itself has a few restaurants. They offer a very expensive meal package at $65 per person, per day. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since we had no other options, we purchased the meal package. The food was average. Nothing to really brag about except for one day. I believe it was either a Monday or Tuesday lunch. The food was exceptional. I asked for some of the same rice that evening for dinner, but they said they didn't have any left over. The pool could be so much more than it is but it closes at 6pm because of 'bugs.' The only thing open is the bar and people walking around because there are NO activities going on after the pool closes. Its a little strange because the property is so large.
They are not using this space to its full potential. The rooms and decor are stuck in 1999. You can clearly see that with a few changes and some fun activities that will bring couples and families to the property, it can regain its glory.

The grounds are well kept- a tropical paradise- and the building is beautiful. The food was also very good- lots of choices at the buffet. However, a large rowdy group arrived and music was blasting in the common areas which broke the magic of being in a remote rainforest. We are happy we had two good days before the noise began. Other guests were also disappointed with the sudden change in vibe. It is certainly not advertised as a “party hotel”.

it is located in an incredible location. I had a balcony with a river view. I could sit in the afternoon and watch a parade of birds, including toucans. Be aware that the location is not within a town, so you are only at this property for meals and snacks. Also, the property does not offer much assistance for transportation to and from the location. The nature is amazing though, and made my stay worthwhile!

We stayed at this resort about 9 years ago and enjoyed it. It has actually improved since then! It is a true birder's paradise. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with balconies that overlook the stunning grounds with all sort of trees and plants that attract birds. The staff is welcoming and accomodating. The waitresses at the Monkey Bar were patient with our bad Spanish (they all speak much better English). The free night time tour was very fun and there are so many cool hikes that you can walk to. In addition to birds we saw Geoffroy's tamarin (a small monkey), agouti, coati, and a lot of neat lizards.

Dated and run down generally. Both the rooms and common areas were in poor condition and not very clean. The room we were in had mould on the lamp shades and very tatty decor generally. The TV remote control was filthy and we didn’t touch it. The room had takeaway cups for coffee which is not very environmentally conscious. The buffet meal plan was basic and the supposedly hot food was mainly cold as the American tourists come in on mass, they lift off all the lids on the buffet hot food and leave them off

An unforgettable experience! Three night stay. Pool is lovely and visited by colorful Toucans. Monkeys on the property looking for a fruit treat. A jungle adventure just looking out from your balcony or from the great upstairs bar area. We did not do the all inclusive option as it's too much food and expensive. The a la carte restaurant was seriously good. Fillet mignon was prepared perfectly and my wife's chicken breast with potatoes was thoroughly enjoyed.
Highly recommend the resort and all of its options for visiting the canal and lake Gatum.

Being light sleepers, we had asked for a quiet room - as we always do when traveling - specifically one far from the elevator and floor entrance. We were told we would need to wait another hour because those rooms were not yet ready. When we finally received our keys, we were shocked to discover that our room was the very first one by the entrance and the closest to the elevator.

To make matters worse, the lamp was missing a light bulb (which was fixed upon request), and the TV did not receive any signal until the morning of the third day.

Ironically, the noisy air conditioner turned out to be a blessing - its constant hum served as white noise and helped mask the hallway sounds. It almost felt like sleeping on a plane near the engines. We did appreciate the dehumidifier, though you’ll need to empty the water tank every 5–6 hours.

The highlight of the resort was undoubtedly the surrounding nature. We joined the 45-minute boat ride (US$45), which was well worth it. We saw an alligator, several species of monkeys and birds, and beautiful landscapes. We were especially lucky to spot a sloth happily hanging from a tree.

That said, we would recommend joining the day tours rather than staying at the resort. In our view, it’s not worth spending three days there.

Most staff members were friendly but appeared overworked. The facilities seem long past their prime - the gym was essentially abandoned, and the library consisted of old magazines and books left behind by previous guest

The Gamboa is in a wonderful location where you cannot help but spot caiman, sloths, monkeys and last, but not least, an incredibly diverse range of birds.

The main attraction of this place is the nature that surrounds it. This includes the wildlife and vegetation that is part of the rainforest. The hotel, unfortunately is in need of updates and maintenance; the staff providing the service are willing to assist, however they lack the skills needed. This is evident in the restaurants and the tours they offer, which are well sought after.

The accommodations were comfortable, but we had to wipe the dirt off our feet, from the dirt off the floor, before getting into bed. Food prices wee obscenely absurd. We paid $50 for two ham and cheese sandwiches. At breakfast the scrambled eggs were runny, and room temperature. At dinner, the mashed potatoes served were as cool as the eggs. No wash rags are provided in the rooms. If you want to scrub you make do with full size hand towels. Salt and pepper must be requested at every meal.

Upon check-in, we were offered the gamboa package which includes 3 buffet meals per day and 3 tour packages during the stay. After consideration the individual cost of these items- buffet meals, and the 2 tours we wanted to do anyways- we agreed to the cost of the package. However, we were stopped in the lobby and asked if we wanted to continue the package. So rather than the $700 quoted price for the duration of our stay, it only covered 2 nights. This is plain deception and thievery. They sold us on the duration of the stay, and surpised us that it actually was only for our first 2 nights. We left, refusing to patronize the hotel any further, depsite having already had paid for the remainder of our stay. Management refused to rectify the problem their staff caused.

Not 5 star (as posted, at least in Google Maps). The receptionists did not acknowledge us at first, then gave a rude waving of the hand when they were finally ready. The receptionist gave us bad directions to our rooms and gave us no information on what was available at the resort (tours, food, services, etc.).
Tour desk was absolutely rude. There were three of them and they never looked up. We asked about the aerial tram and she asked for a name and then expected that to be the end of the conversation.
A/c in one room didn’t work well. The rooms are outdated. No information on any services present in the room.
We weren’t informed about the complimentary night safari and then when we asked if we could join, we were told that it was full. At least then we were told to show up and see if there are any no shows.
There was no evidence of concierge.
It was nice that our rooms were next to each other but it was weird that only one of the rooms had a door that locked between the two rooms. One room had a dehumidifier, but not the other. Found a dried contact on the toilet paper.

This is such a cool place! It is all about the rainforest and the animals. The hotel is magical looking. You feel like you are in Jurassic Park. The staff was very friendly, the food good and the pool lovely. The hotel is a bit old and the rooms are a bit dated, but very comfortable and large. We went on night safari, saw the sloths, went zip lining and up the cable car. All very well organized, and so fun. Highly recommend staying here!

We saw monkeys, sloths, butterflies, more than 15 different birds, ñeques, gato solo.
Quality food in Buffet- good
Price on cocktails - high but understandable. This is a family oriented hotel.
Pet Friendly - amazing for families that enjoy stay with their pets been responsibles with them. It is a wild area so pets cant be without their leash.
The viem of pool with lake view in the back is stunning.
Rooms are big.
It is missing repair and clean of some areas because of high humidity but usable areas are ok.

The resort area and view is very beautiful. I'd say the hotel condition is still solid 3 star hotel. It's a bit dated but not too bad. The hotel lobby is grand and beautiful and well maintained. Lots of activities to keep you busy. The resort staff are very nice and hard working and mostly speak good English. The tour guides, boat and truck drivers are working very hard to give you best experience and are very pleasant people. Monday is off for all excursions (except the free night tour) so plan accordingly.
I like that there is a dehumidifier in the room so the humidity was improved by that. The room is very clean. However the pillows and blanket were not clean or might not been washed after previous guests. They were stinky and smelled like someone's sweat, very gross.
The food is very good although they are all buffets.
The hotel is busy with lots of day guests. It seems very popular with families of young kids.

The location is Great ! The food is very expensive..if you stay here you don’t have any alternative you have eat the hotel food. The hotel does not even provide tooth paste. They will only give you 2 towels…it is very human and hot…so you will need more than one shower…but you will get only one towel per day per person. The room floors are oily and slippery…and the room smells a little…you will need a few hours to get used to it. Beware of mosquitos …you can’t stay out after dark…they will eat you alive!!

The property was beautiful, clean, with a great pool and good food. The service was slow and not very friendly. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with a great view. We were there for the new years and the event that was planned for guests was 10 out of ten such a great time.
