I stayed here one week ago and it was absolutely horrific! Inside the bedroom room, I found stains on the pillows, bed comforter, and chairs. I also found aunts and many mosquitos. Outside, the pool was green and murky. A caution sign was posted for no swimming. It seemed like there was no one on the property and they hadn't not taken care of their hotel in over a year.

The property was very calm & peaceful yet near to the market. The restaurant served excellent food. The basic requirements either were taken care of by the hotel or were available in the shops just across the road. The staff were extremely helpful & very happy doing that. They treat you like your family. Ari & Mandy were outstanding in their service. To top it the property is artistically decorated. Highly recommended !!!

Love that it was quiet, secluded, peaceful. Private pool was a plus. Disappointed with no warungs nearby. Restaurants were very limited. Room was lovely but tv didn't work, shower over the bath was very dangerous as you had to clamber over the high side and hang onto the bath, no handrails, and slippery underfoot. Property is a little bit on the tired side and could do with a bit of an uplift and it would be absolutely wonderful. Staff were very helpful. Much appreciated. Would def stay here again.

Adequate stay...very pleasant and staff couldn’t do enough for us. Placed decorative Swan on our bed for our honeymoon. Pools need to be regularly cleaned and bathroom tiles need to be fixed.

Good if you want a quiet place

Very quiet and tranquil place. But rooms are dated and dirty. Dust and cobwebs everywhere. There is water seepage in the room when it rains. Rooms have a musty , damp smell. But the people are very nice and helpful. Not many shopping and food options nearby. Quite far from the central area of ubud- not a problem if you have a motor bike. It is located in a very small side street- cars cannot come to the front of the hotel. This becomes a problem during check in and check out with luggage. Water dispenser provided with every room.

The room was spacious and fit with amenities that wouldve made it a really nice place to stay, if not for the derelict state of everything in and out of the room. The bathtub exists, but was dirty, stained and attempting to clear the dirt doesn't help cause it floats on the water as the water drains away in a trickle (due to what i assume is a clogged pipe). The cupboards are broken, worn and all the wooden furniture seems to have sawdust around (which suggests termites?). The kettle is caked in a layer of residue and most of the doors are missing handles, so you use the key to open and close the doors. Location was a little out of the way, google maps does not tell you there are 2 slopes between you and ubud town. If you discount all those and just want a sleep, it should still be fine. Staff were nice. I feel like this is one of those places that could have been a wonderful experience if only they'd bothered to maintain the place instead of letting it fall into ruins.

A welcome oasis from the hubbub of Ubud

I really liked the staff at the hotel and I liked my room. I hsd a large patio area outside my room and my room was near the pool which I swam in every day. The hotel is so peaceful and it is an oasis from the busy downtown of Ubud. There are some restaurants and convenience stores near the hotel and their is a laundry across the street. The roads are narrow and there are no sidewalks so walking is tricky. I appreciated having a tropical oasis to come home to at the end of the day. It was great to have the pool waiting for me and the staff are lovely and so helpful

Quirky property, a little out of town, that fits the Ubud vibe.
Had a few issues, like no light in the bathroom for 2 days. Offered another room, after I had unpacked everything, which I declined as I thought it would be fixed the same day.
Toiletries not marked up as to what was what. Coffee not replenished. No spoon, no creamer.
Little things that are easily fixed, if the staff are properly focused.
Overall a pleasant stay, but must try harder !

We really enjoyed our 4 days at the Gajah Biru Bungalows. We had a fabulous top floor accommodation with roof and tree top views. Spacious is an understatement. We reclined on our broad verandah within meters of the cooling pool set amidst tropical greenery. Our large 4-poster bed looked almost small under the 5 meter high conical thatch roof. A walk-thru office area separated the lounge/bedroom from the sizeable bathroom with a tub you could practically do laps in. And it's QUIET: cars can't drive by the property. The courteous, friendly staff went out of their way to be helpful. And they are interesting and fun to talk with. They gave us a welcoming drink and a parting gift that we will treasure. The breakfast is filling and delicious. There's a spa on the grounds. We'd go back there in a heartbeat.

My oasis

I booked here for relaxation and it was just the ticket. If you're looking for a 5* resort then this isn't for you but instead you get a peaceful and charming hotel. I loved all the personal touches. They've put alot of thought into the decor. The owner invited me to a complimentary dinner which really touched me. The staff always had a smile and really wanted to make my stay a happy one. I was given a room to have a shower before my departure (after my check out time). Very impressed. Nothing is too much trouble. Everyone treated me like a member of the family. Sunni and Surinder were great hosts. Hi to Mande and Gede.

Highly recommend!

We had amazing stay and here and didn't want to leave. Service was lovely and so helpful with pick up from airport, arranging day trip & spa on site services. Room lovely and spacious and calm setting but still not too far a walk or taxi from Ubud centre. We did not want to leave!

Beautiful rooms and verandahs. Spacious & comfortable. But needs TLC to combat aging. Gardens well kept have a quirky ambience from owners tin art pieces hanging here & there. Can't say enough about the staff who are so friendly and helpful. Lovely people. Food is nice. Free water wifi tv shuttle - all you could want.

a bit tricky to find yet what place in ubud isn;t? the place has a bit fubky vibe yet that is what sets it apart from other places. hospitality can't be beat. beyond welcoming. breakfast is at their restaurant across the gang,(alleyway) just excellent.. large space to call your own. travelers of all ages from all corners of the globe were staying at the quaint place, yet I would think the mature seasoned backbacker would find it most appealing. you feel more at home in a different culture rather than being a visitor.great experience staying at this property,you will leave feeling better than you arrived. go for it.

Delightful place to while away a few days.

Found this lovely villa through the Expedia site and couldn't have been more pleased. Our room was gorgeous with a lovely fish pond and day bed on the spacious verandah. And we could literally walk just a few metres to the pool. The staff were incredibly friendly and the bungalows were spit spot with quirky features made by local artisans. The restaurant is just a few metres up the road and their range and quality of food was very welcome. We would definitely stay at these bungalows a second time and will not hesitate to recommend to our family. Our room could have benefitted by a fan as the air conditioning was a bit difficult to moderate. While the villa's are to the north of the town, a courtesy bus was provided and we found the walk into town, through rice paddies, a lovely highlight.

Only had two nights and it wasn't enough! What a glorious place, quirky artworks, lush and beautifully tended gardens, great pool, delightful staff.
Apart from loud barking dogs next door at night and a pretty average menu for the in house dining options, this place was perfect!

Charming little hideaway that feels like home

From the moment you arrive you feel instantly relaxed and welcome. Everything about this place was amazing from the staff, to breakfast, the pool and the lovely room. The beautiful name plates given as gifts was a lovely touch too as well as the personal call from the owner to introduce himself and ensure we were comfortable and didn't need anything.

Perfect quiet relaxing oasis!

Great little spot away from the hustle & bustle of Ubud town. Hotel runs shuttles or hire a scooter for $5AUS a day. Staff here go over & above to make you feel welcome & comfortable. Rooms are beautifully set out & confortable. Breakfast (and other food at cafe) is delicious. I recommend the banana pancakes! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. An amazing relaxing stay!!!!

Don't expect a 5* stay. The room needs good clean up. I mean a really good scrub. It is sad that even many big hotels in the area have the same issue. They have multiple managers, but nobody wants their hands dirty to really look after basic everyday things like housekeeping. It is management issue, not a problem with the staff. The bathroom, the room itself, the patio, even the fridge, all prochures and all table surfaces needs really good clean up. On the bathtub, there was no plug, luckily, we had our own.

But on the positive side, it is value for money. The garden was pretty, room ok, nice outdoor patio (but again, pls change the pillows for the sofa after every guest like good places do), minibar prices very reasonable. Free transportation to Ubud centre. Nice surprises for the guests. Breakfast was nice when delivered on your own patio and I even sometimes called and ordered it after b-fast closing time:-)

Everyone in this small place were friendly to guests. Especially the front office staff. I want to say thank you for them for doing their best.

But a manager of this place should take a good look at the mirrow.

Good for price, but not clean!

Not so far from Ubud Center (15min by walk or 3min by taxi). Breakfast including main dish, fruit juice, fresh fruit and coffee delivered to room when you choose among more than 6 a-la-carte menus and confirm the delivery time by the previous night. Excellent service and friendly staffs. The Round Bar of the hotel provides good food in cheap prices.

But if the room cleanliness is critical, you should not choose it because rooms are not so clean and worn out. I stayed in two standard suite rooms (Cinnamon for 2 days & Cardamom for 1 day), I saw a lot of dust in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Especially in the Cinnamon room, the bathtub's drain is almost clogged so that water swirls down extremely slowly although the water pressure is very low. That's why I asked to change my room to another. However, the other room is also not clean although its drain is OK.

Absolutely amazing gem!

We could not have asked for a better experience than our stay at Gajah Biru Bungalows. Our bungalow was spacious and exactly as depicted in the photos. The grounds and pool were fantastic and felt like an oasis from the busy streets of Ubud. The service was outstanding - from the front desk staff to the shuttle driver. Breakfast was delicious and served with a smile to our veranda each morning. We highly recommend Gajah Biru Bungalows!

We had a such nice time in this place. The elegant room with large bathtub. outdoor terrace was very private with nice little bond. Breakfast was very tasty and staff was superb. I have to recommend the close by restaurant. We used free shuttlebus to get the centre of the town.

We had an enchanting experience at Gajah Biru (Blue Elephant): hospitality exceeded all expectations, and the facility is infused with art at every turn. - Location: App.0.4 mile away from Ubud central. It is far enough to avoid noise from main street and we could find peaceful and quiet tranquil atmosphere from the hotel. Hotel provided complimentary transportation (every 2-hour interval to central market). It is about 10-15 minutes walking distance to the central market. There are many galleries and souvenir shops along the way to the central market so if you can handle for 10-15 minutes to walk, it is a fun to try. - Transportation: Also, when you need transport to other Bali sites, hotel to another hotel or to the airport, the hotel offers rides at very reasonable prices. -Facility and room: Room was spacious than we expected and we had a splendid view of the garden area that the architecture enhanced because the room had floor-to-ceiling glass that gave the room a light, airy feel. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the A/C worked well. Strong free wifi signal and TV with free movie DVDs. A pleasant surprise with very reasonable price mini bar items.) - Management: The owners' passion for hospitality carries over to the staff who all were models of service excellence: reception desk clerks, wait staff, and drivers. You may stay at more luxurious facilities, but you will only rarely experience hospitality & an aestheticsetting to rival Gajah Biru

Brilliant oasis in Ubud

Brilliant little oasis in the middle of Ubud!! Very quiet, loved the quirky tropical well maintained garden!! Room was amazing, super comfy bed. Wonderfully helpful staff that are more like family, they could not have been more helpful, my partner had a bad tooth ache while we were there, they were so very helpful. Best bar and food... We didn't need to venture anywhere else, indian flavours were yummo. So very happy with there own spa, the girls were very proffessional, I thoroughly reccomend the Indonesian Boreh massage. We will be back for sure!!

A little idyll in the middle of Ubud

I stayed 2 nights at the bungalows, but even before I arrived I knew it was going to be a good stay as the hosts had already been in touch asking about whether I had any special requests for during my stay. They organised a pick up from the airport and then a tour of Ubud for me the following day. The bungalows themselves are quirky, different and special. I had a standard room which was massive and had a beautiful deep bath which was 'open air' which was a real treat. There was also a little terrace and seating area. Breakfast was a choice from 5 set menus but you could pick and choose eggs, juices etc. They also sorted me out a late dinner when I arrived at the accommodation.

Beautiful through and through, perfection

Stayed for 1 night. The grounds are beautiful with great art work dotted around the bushes. The bungalows are a good size with plenty of room. We received a welcome drink on arrival and staff from start to finish went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. When you arrive they say to feel at home, which is lovely. There are 2 pools and both are very relaxing. Breakfast was delicious. A very romantic and beautiful setting just outside ubud, it provides everything you could ask for to explore beautiful rice fields and the buzzing town. Definitely a must stay!

Very relaxing and easy going. There is always someone to assist you whatever your request. My wife and I felt like Locals living at home. The landscaping, pool, artwork and sculptures created interest and made you become involved in each and every aspect. You always stopped to touch and feel the artwork which was cleverly placed in the surrounds. The host was charming and his family adorable. You felt part of his family. The stay was very welcoming, comfy and addictive.

The stay was fantastic. We reach the bungalow at about 9pm and the staff was very warm and serve us the wet towel and welcome drink. This was very touch me as we are travel the entire day and was very tired and this was a little thing that they really take care of us and provide us the best services. I have never had this kind of experience in other hotel. Thank you so much. The enviroment of the bungalow is fantastic, the owner was very creavitive and look into every single cover to decorate and provide the best enviroment for the customer. On the second day we plan for mountain trekking at 2 am and the breakfast was prepared and send to us by 2am before we leave. This warm action was really touch us. Thank you

I spend 6 days there and it's way the best hotel ever. The staff are wonderful, they take care of everything. The pleasure you have to take your breakfast in your own terrace each morning. I found the best yoga teach, the class was free. I will always remember the time I spend there.

The staffs are the biggest asset for the hotel. Never met such very friendly and helpful staffs before. We felt very welcome there. Big thanks specially to Ari and Ayu who helped us with many tips. Nothing was too much trouble for Ari calling around taxi drivers in the late hours trying to find the best possible rate for us for a day tour. Again we appreciate highly for that effort (eventhough I have said, that would be not necessary, it was already very late!). The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and very spacious!!! Big balcony and big bathroom are a big plus. The hotel has beautiful garden, located in a quiet area but yet near to great restaurants and mini markets. Would recommend and stay there again if we visit Ubud.

Très déçu car les avis que nous avions consultés ne sont pas en phase avec ce que nous avons vu.
Une seule piscine et pas régulièrement nettoyée. Pas de restaurant sur place. Pour le petit déjeuner il faut aller dans un Etablissement proche avec un voucher. Le petit déjeuner y est mauvais en qualité, quantité, choix et accueil . Concernant la chambre (103) les draps, housse de couette et taies d'oreiller étaient très tachés. Propreté générale très limite. Cet hôtel a du être très sympa comme nous le présentent les photos du site mais nous avons eu l'impression maintenant d'un établissement peu entretenu (chambre, jardin). Il est à noter que le personnel sur place est très accueillant.

Ich habe mich extrem wohlgefühlt an diesem Ort ! Vor allem durch das überaus freundliche und hilfsbereite Personal, das alles tut, um einem den Aufenthalt schön zu machen.
Die kleine, ruhige Anlage ist kunstvoll und mit viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet. Meine riesige Terrasse mit dem bequemen Sofa war ein wunderbarer Ort zum Entspannen. Der eigene Wasserspender ist super, somit kann man viel Müll vermeiden.
Zwar ist die Unterkunft etwas vom Zentrum entfernt, trotzdem ist alles noch fußläufig zu erreichen, außerdem gibt es in unmittelbarer Umgebung Restaurants, Shops und auch das gute eigene Restaurant gleich gegenüber.
