We enjoyed our one night stay here. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We arrived before check in so our room was not yet ready but we were able to leave bags with reception and go to the pool area. Our room was large and spacious, it had been cleaned however the bathroom smelt and when we awoke the next day there were lots of flies in the shower, bath and on our towel. The pool was great, a large pool with two smaller ones. The main issue outside is the lack of sun beds for everyone and some of the sun beds and tables being broken. We ate lunch at the restaurant which was tasty and ordered room service for dinner which was also tasty. The buffet breakfast was varied and plentiful - especially the omelette and pancakes were tasty! We did not leave the hotel so cannot comment on the surrounding area. We got a grab to the airport which was around a 20 minute drive. Would recommend for a short stay.

Sabah hotel was clean and confortable. The staff was friendly the food was tasty. I ejoyed a relaxing massage and enjoyed the appearance of a large water monitor at the pool. I also appreciate that my western style bathing suit was foundto be acceptable attire.

Unfortunately, though I was looking forward to the lamb barbecue on Saturday that very day when I asked about the extra activity near the pool, the staff told me that the barbecue was cancelled and the kitchen was closed to to a wedding event scheduled at the hotel. It would have been ice to be reffered to another restaurant rather thankust be be told yhat the desert and alcohol bar would be open.

Just outside the city in a parklike lication. Spotless clean and free from bad odors. The staff is markedly attentive and friendly. Helped me to set up and use a Grab ap to get resonable rates to visit town and other locations. The food is well prepared. Semi pet water monitors vist the pool area. The trip was booked for 2 adults and a child on a suite. When we arrived they applied extra charges for a rollaway bed eventhough it was booked as 3 people booking. We were left without toulet paper for a whole day as the housekeeping forgot to add when changing room and then again when we went to reception. Had to call 3 hours later from the room. It is expensive for what it provides and benefits from being the only larger hotel in the area.

Great little hotel with a pool just outside downtown Sandakan. The hotel restaurant was a pleasant surprise, as they had good Malay food and the staff were amazing! Unfortunately they do not open in a timely manner for breakfast. Otherwise a great stay. If you're into history there are some cool photos in the lobby worth checking out. Apparently the property was a former residence of the governor of North British Borneo, and it is nice to see what it and the town used to look like.

We loved our stay at Sabah hotel as a family of two adults and one child (9yrs old). We booked it for the pool mainly as we knew Sandakan town didn't have much to offer compared to other places on our trip. My daughter loved the pool especially the slides and they provide free pool towels which was great too. The rooms were cleaned daily and were very spacious and we had a pool view. The decor is a little dated and rooms a bit musty but the rooms had air con which was such a relief to get back to after a day in the heat.

We used Sandakan as a base for our trips to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation centre and for an overnight trip to Turtle Island to see the baby turtles being released into the sea. Both were fantastic and I'd highly recommend! Sabah hotel is about 5 mins drive to the main town and as it's situated on a hill we used Grab taxis to get to and from the town as it was too hot to walk it with our daughter.

Breakfast was included which was another big plus for us and it was buffet style and had lots of options. We ate a few times in the Plantation cafe during lunch or dinner and were impressed with the quality of food. Overall we loved our stay and would recommend to anyone.

As a family of two adults and one child (9yrs) we had a great time at Sabah Hotel. Although the hotel and rooms are starting to look a little tired and smell a bit musty they were a really goodsl size and we had our rooms cleaned every day with fresh towels etc. My daughter absolutely loved the pool and slide and it was a great place for us to relax in between our travels around Malaysia, Borneo and Singapore.

We used this hotel as a base for seeing the orangutans at Sepilok and also a night on Selingan island to see the turtles lay eggs and to release babies back into the sea- both of which were incredible experiences and I highly recommend!!

We used Grab taxis to get around the town. Not an awful lot to do in the town itself. The hotel is on a hill from the main town and as the temps were 30/32 degrees most days it would have been too hot to walk it. Grabs are convenient and cheap and we also did a load of washing at the laundromat in the town.

The staff were all so friendly, smiley, welcoming and attentive. They all seem to really care about the hotel and making sure your experience is great. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here.

The Sabah Hotel is a lovely hotel. Our twin room on the 6th floor was perfect with comfortable firm beds and was clean and spacious. Note: importantly the room has a fridge which is not all that common at other Sandakan hotels. The Buffet Breakfast was very good, especially the egg station and food was plentiful. The pool is nicely set in a tropical environment, yet it feels quite open and is of varying depths. There is a good outdoor jacuzzi within the pool area, two slides for kids and a more than adequate gym is close by to the pool area. The Plantation Cafe also served well priced dinners (in addition to breakfast), so there was no need to leave the hotel, except for day tours. An additional Chinese Restaurant is also onsite. We had a really good time. P.S. if you don't have a car, when on day tours pick-up any groceries you may need as it's a fair walk to the shops, but then again that's the beauty of the Sabah Hotel as it's located away from all the hussle and bussle.

While this hotel is nice enough, the reality is that its 1.7km from the nearest eateries/shopping, and the facilities it offers in-house are sadly lacking. We went to breakfast at 9.30am on our first morning and there was hardly anything left. We blamed ourselves for being late, so went at 8.30am the following morning - same situation! The food was not replenished at all, however the serving spoons and their dishes were, even though the Bain Maries were empty!
The pool is great but you are hard pushed to get any service at all. Cold drinks must be purchased from the upstairs cafe, which has limited opening hours.
The staff were great, there is a money exchange facility (typically awful rate) however no tourist information available at all.
I believe we were lucky to jag a renovated room on the 8th floor, but I wouldn't recommend the hotel, nor would I stay there again.

This is a local hotel and as such can not be judged to the same standard as a Western 5* hotel and does not claim to be such. If you accept this fact then the hotel is fine. Staff are excellent. Food acceptable and facilities although a little tired are ok. You need a car to visit Sepilok and just to generally get about. Easy to find on the main road into town and has ample parking.

A couple of minor maintenance issues with room i.e draw with hair dryer wouldn’t open and safe was locked, but dealt with swiftly, efficiently and courteously. The pools beautiful it’s 10 mins or so walk into town but that’s actually a good thing.

The hotel is surrounded by beautiful greenery and the view from the window was amazing (pool and tropical trees). There are a lot of decks, open spaces and chairs by the pool where you can relax. The room was very big and had a nice colonial feel. The windows in the room don't open so you have to use the AC which is quite loud. The hotel is not located within walking distance to town (the town is about 1 mile down the hill). There is nothing really around the hotel so you need to take a taxi/Grab to town, which is only 5 ringgit ($1.5) to go to town and about 10 ringgit ($3) to come back uphill to the hotel. The restaurant in the hotel was quite expensive so we ended up going to town to eat. Overall, very nice hotel and a relaxing stay.
