What a disappointment!

We were really looking forward to this resort. We booked the Original Thai Suite. The pictures on their website looked amazing. We are sorry to report that the actual place is nothing like that. The only positive we can say is the location and views from the terrace.
That said, this \"resort\" is a mere shadow of what it might have been 20 years ago. I don't know where these good reviews come from. Where to start...
There are many, many maintenance issues, burned out lights, cable-ends sticking out of the wall, nails protruding from the wooden floor, creating a safety hazard, just to name a few. The bath mats in our \"suite\" were soiled, there was not enough hot water to fill the in-room bathtub. We took cold showers afterward our half-bath to rinse off. The breakfast choices were extremely limited, and mostly cold, resembling an average 3-star hotel. Walking on the premises, we saw several abandoned units. The issues are so blatant that the only explanation I could possibly come up with is that the owner might be faced with mounting maintenance/operating cost to keep this place afloat and are skimping wherever they can. At this price-point, this complex is absolutely not worth it. Most guests probably just stay one time to never return making this even worse. As a seasoned Thailand and SE Asia traveler who stayed at countless hotels of various categories, I can truly say that the quality to price ratio here is way off. I cannot recommend Katiliya.

Delightful resort surrounded by tropical jungle. The high elevation meant you could open the windows and just let the cool evening breezes carry the sounds of nature. The rooms were huge and service was excellent. The fixtures were dated however, but that's my only criticism.

This is a first class relaxing place in a fantastic location. The rooks are magnificent with everything one needs and the views are spectacular.

There is a large swimming pool, a hot large jacuzzi, a recreational area and large working fireplace and a good dining area.
Highly recommend.

Best motorbike parking in a Hotel

Was a great surprise when arriving at the Resort. As it was a day by day planning trip we did not know about the resort. But the special price was tempting.
We used everything in our room, all the wellness. Unfortunately not enough time to discover the whole park. We were traveling with one car and 2 motorbikes. We got the best motorbike parking in the world! The staff was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a bit resort style and staff just doing their job. A bit pricy as well.

Absolutely great stay !

In general an extremely pleasant stay, great service, great location and very good and plentiful food at the restaurant (at decent prices given the location and 5 star status). Only 'negative thing' to comment on - the road leading up to and down from the hotel really needs to get fixed.... Even with 4WD and higher-than-normal clearance, I'm sure our car didn't like the beating.....

There was absolutely no activities for no one .the kids club was not open.i used the bar around 8 times during my stay not once was there a bar tender present meaning I had to go to the front desk to request some service they would then call the restaurant while I stood waiting.breakfast was cold every morning .tray of eggs looked like they had been cooked hours before.hotel room rate significantly lower than what I paid

Katiliya room type was very big and comfy. Room service was great too. We enjoyed dinner at our room balcony with sunset and mountain view. This place will be our first choice for our next trip to Chiang Rai.

Not ideal during a cold spell

Our stay took place during a cold spell for which the hotel and the rooms are not equipped (lack of reverse cycle aircon). Although we were given a portable heater it was not able to cope with the large room. Depending on the location of your room one requires transport which worked very well as long as the telephone worked. The staff was trying their best to cope with the situation and were very helpful.

The environment is serene and pleasant but this was not the case when I first checked in on the 16 Dec when a big group of tourists came in about the same time. They spoke very loudly most of the time and there was no peace until they departed the next day after breakfast. Also I did expect more from the balcony especially when I had read from the previous posts on how beautiful the views could be from there. My experience was different; my room faced a small pond and the sunrise was not so spectacular. But the room, however, is big and comfortable for 3 people.

All suite rooms, very large and comfy bed. Bathroom fittings a little tired, but all very grand. Hotel is remote, so nice for a peaceful getaway. Used heated outdoor pool / jacuzzi which was lovely on a slightly cooler day in the mountains. Breathtaking distant mountain views and excellent staff.
Restaurant is only viable option for dinner given location, which was also excellent with good selection of food and drinks.

All Benefits, No Risk...Amazing!!

The resort is nothing less than gorgeous. It's so peaceful and serene, with an amazing staff that are extremely pleasant and go out of their way to make sure your stay is one to be remembered. For instance, I left my jacket, which had some important things in it, total boneheaded move. I didn't realize it until I got to the airport. They sent a shuttle to the airport with it. The airport is about a 1/2hr away.
The resort is in a remote area but they have tours you can take and the grounds are stunning. When I get the chance to come back to Chiang Rai, I'll definitely choose to stay there again

Great Mountain, Exclusive, Secluded Resort!

Amazing place with amazing views. It is nestled in a mountainous area of Northern Thailand that is just gorgeous. The rooms are huge and contemporary, with super nice balconies and furniture. And the managers were super friendly and hospitable. The fireplace between the lobby and the bar was just perfect for a cold January night - it does get a few degrees colder than Chiang Rai and Mae Sai, the closest cities. Can't wait to return!

Five stars for quiet relaxation!

This is an ideal place for quiet relaxation. Although we weren't sure how we would travel to the Hotel we decided to take a chance. Transportation from Mae Sai is available by Songtao. The driver asked for 800B. We paid 600B. I think most travel from Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai through pre-arranged vehicles, however we were going from Mai Sai. The hotel arranged for our transportation back to Mae Chan to catch the green bus, they charged us 500B. Private vehicle. The service staff are excellent.

I arrived late on my check-in date, a staff drove me to the room with his golf cart, when we arrived the room, we realized the room is occupied. I saw there were two staffs in the room watching TV through the window.Of course once we knocked,they opened the door with a nice smile, and left politely. I understand hotel staffs need to rest and sometime stay in empty room. But they should check if the room is booked or not!

It was one of the prettiest hotels I have ever stayed (believe me, I've stayed in pretty swanky hotels before) up in the mountains and the views were breathtaking, rooms big and comfortable. Service was lacking but it was low season. If you are looking to relax and enjoy nature, I would recommend.

Safety concern for women travellers

We loved everything about this place until we discovered some serious security lapses. This incident happened when my friend and I, both women were lounging in the hotel lobby post dinner. The reception staff leaves by 10 PM and they are replaced by a couple of security guards. We wanted to retire to our rooms around 10.30 PM. We asked a lady staff from the restaurant to pack some food we wanted to take to our rooms. We were aware that this was her last errand for the day. A while after this, I realized that there was a man looming/stooping over me from behind the sofa and telling me something in Thai. Taken aback, I turned to my friend who knew some Thai. Both of us realized pretty soon that the man was very drunk and was making inappropriate advances towards us. The hotel lobby was quite empty at this point except for this man, his equally drunk friend, 1 hotel guard sitting at the reception, my friend and I. We asked the man to back off, but he insisted on conversing with us. So we approached the guard and asked him to fend the man off. The security guard, to our utter dismay, refused to do anything about the situation. So we decided to call for the manager. The guard was very dismissive as he informed us that the manager is not available. Now this can be a very threatening situation if you realize that the hotel is situated in the middle of a jungle on a private hill. We were lucky to be aware of the single lady in the restaurant downstairs.

Perfect place for tranquil peaceful getaway

First time to Chiang Rai, and chose this hotel based on Expedia and Tripadvisor ratings and reviews.. Once arriving from the airport via their hotel pick up service, I was impressed with staff and how professional and enthuasiam to assist me with all enquiries and were very helpful.
The room I stayed in was amazing, loved the view/balcony/bath! Even though some of the things could do with a refurb, the place is still worth every cent.
4 Nights and 5 days was not enough time there!!

A Hideaway!

This is a wonderful retreat away from the hassle and bustle of Chiang Rai. Peace and tranquility are the order of the day and relaxing amongst beautifully landscaped gardens, pool and Hot Jacuzi come naturally. Really worth a stay if you have a couple of nights to spare.

That said, the resort can do with an uplift, maintenance and better supervision for a 5 star which it is not. The suites are spacious so are the bathrooms and all very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and obliging and can't do enough for you. The breakfast was more than adequate with plenty of choice. The only restaurant serving dinner is very good and reasonable and the sunset from the terrace is stunning.

Would recommend.

The service is flawless.The food is nice.Nonetheless,this hotel is quite far from city...and u have to rent a car or hire van to send u to other places....And there r no 7-11 or any shop nearby so u have to order room service all the way during staying at this hotel.Anyway,what I love about this hotel is the room and shower room....omg...the shower is soooo big ...got 2 basin and shower section plus bathtub also!!!this is what I love about this hotel...and for the view is mountain view...so far...I feel peaceful feeling when I stay at this hotel.

Excellent Hotel in a lovely location with great views. A lack of spoken English was in fact an issue as there are very few Staff with only basic skills. Wine prices in the Restaurant were also disproportionate with a meal coming out at a reasonable 250-300 BHT but a basic bottle of House Wine is 1900 BHT!Outside of this it's a great stay, quite remote, so transport has to be hired if you are to see anything.

Katiliya Mountain Resort and Spa

Stayed for two days over the weekend at this hotel. No grouses. Nice big rooms, clean toilets, good plumbing, warm water, the staff are always polite, excellent service even when asked to go the extra mile ( I was travelling with wife, two kids, parents and sister in tow). Despite the location on Google maps, the resort is easy to find. Turn left at the T junction after Mae Chan towards Doi Mae Salong. There are enough banners and posts to direct you to the resort. Best rooms for view were the mountain suite at 201 and 202 if you can get them. Just below the resort was an enclosure with a few barking deer, so that was a plus for the children to see some. Was happy with the size of the Katiliya suites as well - the toilets have more privacy if you are traveling with family. Would stay at the Thai Villa if my children were older ( say when they are 7?) as there are lots of wooden things to knock themselves on or knock over. Son enjoyed the jacuzzi and pool. Did not get to try, but it looks and feels clean. Wifi is great. Breakfast was superb for Thai tastes. Will definitely consider coming again this december 2012.

Beautifully designed and appointed Northern Thai mountain spa retreat. Outstanding Thai massage. Lovely pools, but inadequate heating. Isolated; not much to do. Limited restaurant offerings; mixed quality. Restaurant staff very inefficient. Other hotel staff, however, helpful and very friendly.

Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Zimmer, alles Suiten sind sehr geräumig und gut. Aber auch hier wird vergessen zu renovieren. Ausstattung in die Jahre gekommen, die Klimaanlage sehr laut und leider war unser Zimmer sehr staubig.Viele Zimmer sind nicht mehr bewohnbar und das sieht man leider von außen, die Poolbar komplett geschlossen und verkommen, Das Restaurant ist sehr schön und man kann innen oder außen sitzen. Coole Umgebung. Man braucht dringend einen Roller/Auto vor Ort, ansonsten hängt man im Hotel fest. Die gesamte Anlage ist aber in sich stimmig und schön
