Nice view on the lake. I was expecting more given it’s a grand hotel. I thought it would be nicer. Our GPS had trouble getting us to the hotel which was separated from town by the train.

We loved staying at the Grand Hotel. The staff were gracious, professional, yet friendly. Food in the dining room was excellent. We particularly enjoyed all the choices for breakfast. Our room looked onto the lake. Spectacular view.

Faded glory but still impressive

The Grand has faded but still an impressive hotel, 5 course Dinner was good and breakfast was superb. Bed was one of the comfiest ones I've slept in. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. Getting to it is a little complicated in the one way system in Zell am See (don't solely rely on Google maps). Not sure it completely justified the price but it was an experience.

Lovely stay. Friendly welcome, easy check-in. One of our party upgraded at check-in (not me, it's never me, lol). Beautiful rooms overlooking the gorgeous lake. The half-board option was very good value for money. Very short stroll to the bars (incl Crazy Daisy's which is literally a stones throw away) and Christmas market. I'll definitely stay there again when the opportunity arises.

Staff was phenomenal and so very helpful. Lake & property location was great. Brewery and cafe open/service times were limited and somewhat confusing. Our room was clean and beds were comfortable. No air conditioning, which we knew about, so we brought fans and were also supplied with fans but am uncertain if this is normal or our room just happened to have some fans left in it. Biggest issue was that the train runs directly next to the hotel and is quite loud since we needed to leave our doors and windows wide open at night in order to cool our room enough to sleep. We were able to get some sleep with 5 fans going, 2 noise machines and ear plugs. It’s a beautiful setting with great staff and clean rooms but if you’re a light sleeper who requires coolness to sleep, this might not be the best option for you.

We had two fans in the room and a door that opened to the lake and we were comfortable as we were only in the room after sunset.

Wonderful hotel with great staff

Fabulous location , wonderful hotel . Very comfortable beds, superb food , we booked half board ,which even included afternoon snacks. Only thing to criticise in our room ( we booked a superior double with sea view ) was the shower, very small and the shower head not fixed properly and making it difficult to shower, we called maintainence, but it wasn’t fixed . Trains regularly going past the hotel also very noisy during the night

Not worth it for the price we paid

Flat pillow resulted in pain at hubby back for the rest of our trip. We stayed in various hotels prior to this and had no issue. Although they provided different types of pillows but are really flat. They damaged my luggage too. It was a new samsonite luggage I bought in Austria as the one I had was damaged by ground control at the airport. Just 1 week old and it’s damaged again, it was carried and put into our room by the valet. They offered compensation though, by waiving off our room service dinner. But I rather they be careful about handling our stuffs than such compensation.

A truly wonderful hotel!

What a wonderful hotel! Beautiful historic building in a stunning location with wonderful facilities, food and fantastic staff. I received a free upgrade and had a huge wellness room with an in room sauna and a stunning balcony overlooking the lake. The half board was such great value with a lovely 2 course mid afternoon snack, fabulous 5 course gourmet dinner and wonderful breakfast spread. They even dropped me off at the station as it was snowing. Lovely staff throughout the hotel, and great spa and pool facilities. Highly recommended, I will definitely be back!

We had an incredible stay at the Grand Hotel. Fantastic service with friendly, knowledgeable, helpful reception staff, beautiful facilities, beautiful views, delicious food. Perfect location to explore Zell am See and enjoy the lake. Loved the complementary paddleboat and bicycle options. A really special treat, we felt completely spoiled and the hotel is absolutely gorgeous, as are the spectacular mountains around Zell am See, jaw-dropping, 'Wow'!

There was a horrible smell that emanated from the shower room. Smelled like sewage. Originally the area smelled more like bleach (as if they tried to correct it). But as the evening wore on - it became overpowering. We shut off the door and opened the windows int he middle of the night and were okay. When we drew the hotel's attention to it in the morning all they did was tell us that we should have brought it to their attention in the middle of the night - that they have someone on duty 24/7 - as if we were at fault. This is a shame because it put a damper on wha would have been a delightful stay. I would argue they probably should have apologized profusely and knocked some euros of the room charge. But they didn't. Pretty bush league for a fancy/expensive hotel.

This is the second time we have stayed here and we love it. Fabulous location, very friendly staff, very comfortable rooms. The breakfast is fantastic (I think the best we have ever had,) Apparently the evening meals are great too but went out.

The swimming pool area is lovely. As I wasn't skiing I had it all to myself in the mornings - I understand it gets busy with children in the afternoon.

Our only gripe is the position of our room - 223. It overlooked both the lake and the town so we got best of both worlds.... until Monday night when the goods trains started rumbling past - almost continuously. There are also two family rooms next door and unfortunately we must have had the noisiest children ever staying in them who started shouting and running around from about 6.30 am.

But that's our only gripe. THe hotel itself is lovely and we would definitely stay again.

This grand old hotel has all the glamour and old charm you see in the photos. It takes you back to a different time & if you like that, it’s all you need. It is not all redone/repainted or remodelled for today, so don’t expect that. The hotel is beautiful and the view/location cannot be beat.
The staff were amazing, so helpful and smiling always.
The breakfast is pleasant & included in most packages.
The lounge upstairs was an experience in itself, so do check it out.
The spa was dated, but quite cozy & again fit the bill for relaxation.
Overall we loved it!

Did not live up to expectations

Staying at this hotel was the primary reason I stopped in this city. I was looking forward to a beautiful room overlooking the water and a cozy scene as depicted in pictures. I need to remember that pictures lie. I was initially given a room on the 6th floor. The view was fine, but it was SO HOT and there was no air. Reception (Thalia) was extremely helpful and offered a downgrade to an air condition room. While the view was better and I paid for a higher room, I also needed to sleep so I moved. I regretted that decision as I was placed in a different building which was not convenient to getting to meals, etc and I discovered spiders. Parking was also confusing as it was not communicated just to pull up to the door and I ended up paying for parking twice. My luggage was damaged by staff when I was leaving the hotel and I wrote the hotel with no response from them regarding this issue. When I went to go to dinner that night there was an issue finding my name on the room list and I was made to feel like a trespasser. Then once I was settled they uprooted me to move me to another table. Completely unnecessary and insulting with people staring at me wondering what the issue was. My server also made fun of my trying to speak German to him causing more stares. People also kept coming by asking my room number repeatedly. I was not comfortable having my room number repeatedly stated out loud while traveling alone. What should have been a relaxing stay was sadly anything but.

Amazing location, stunning view from our room balcony. Staff were friendly and cooperative. The location of the hotel is the best in Zell am see area.
Breakfast time is always busy, and staff are busy serving different people, so better to come early. The outdoor tables closed most of the time when it’s cloudy weather.

Great hotel with a remarkable location and history. Convenient spa facilities with private access to the lake and pedalo for rent.
On the downside, the hotel restaurant does not keep the tables for hotel guests and we end up wandering around the city to have a dinner (super hard to find a free table without reservation) the staff was apologetic and admitted it's quite embarrassing. Other small things are lack of in-room A/C and poor minibar fridge cooling level but nothing really major.

A Lovely Stay

Lovely hotel in fantastic settings. Rooms are well equipped, bathrooms are extremely clean. Ample food choices at both breakfast and dinner. The staff are functional and efficient, occasionally you get some humour and a smile as well. The main negative is the lack of coordination with the free ski bus to Schmittenhohe which ends up being a free for all. Some from of queuing system would avoid this unpleasant start to the day, alternatively just take a taxi, the public bus or walk to CitiExpress.

The (not so) Grand Hotel

The room is NOTHING like the pictures on either hotels.com or the hotel website itself. I strongly suspect that they have one room that looks semi-decent and that’s what is being used for sales purposes. The rest are garbage, at least insofar as our room was concerned. Considering that we paid the same amount for 4 nights here that a suite at the Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong costs (actually, it’s currently less to have the Hong Kong suite) the value for money is a joke. I would almost go so far as to state that the hotel is clickbait personified.

my husband and I really loved our Deluxe Double room with sauna. The room had 2 balconies overlooking the lake and the mountains. The room was spotlessly clean. sauna was a must during winter months. We used it every day. We were on half board and the food was varied. The hotel is very close to the pier where the cruise boat departs from. There is also a very pleasant après-ski bar just opposite the hotel.
the room was extremely quiet. We enjoyed the peace and quiet. Usually in the hotels there is a constant noise of doors slamming , but not in this hotel. We had very good sleep there.

Beautiful hotel - but my gripe relates lack of air conditioned room despite me reserving same and the hotel blaming Hotels.com for failing to correctly advise them.
However Hotels.com replied to my e-mail of complaint by stating that I did not reserve an air conditioned room
We were travelling with our dog and strangely enough if Hotels.com were to check the following 2 nights reservations they were also for air conditioned rooms.
Luxury Pet friendly hotels and air con are the 2 filters I use when reserving hotels.

Beautiful property, great location on the lake - but I have to assume it is oriented more towards the winter than summer season, for a few reasons:
1) Staff Shortages - no one in the spa / gym on either of the two days we were there. There was also a lack of a bartender at night, and only one server for around 12 tables on the terrace. Which is a shame because it would have been nice to hang at the bar.
2) Air Conditioning / Screens - there is no AC in the rooms, only a rotary fan, which was barely adequate. And there are no screens on the windows, so you can't open them at night to let cooler air in. Either have AC or put screens in; having neither is tough.

The rooms themselves were great - large, separate WC, comfortable beds, beautiful views. So an overall plus there.

The location is fantastic, hotel is beautiful however the wifi is really poor, no kettle , coffee maker or iron in the room.
Just to mention zell am see and all the towns near by are fully accupied by arab tourists during summer time no other nationalities can be seen around.
I wish I knew that before I booked my holiday even though the place is beyond imagination beautiful but it would be hard to ignore that you can’t take a picture without an arab lady with burqa in the background.

Amazing hotel with amazing views on the lake. Staff very attentive. Arrived to glass of champagne. This hotel is very grand.
Only issue is that half board dinner is 4 course and is bought out so quickly that you feel rushed. Dinner service closes at 9.30pm which is very early.

Wonderful Austrian alpine resort! Great hotel in a central location with friendly and attentive staff (they all speak english!). Our room was clean, quiet and spacious. Great breakfast and four course dinner included in the room rate! We ate in the Hotel every evening and enjoyed the local food as much as the breathtaking lake and mountain view from the restaurant!

very old hotel!!! short staff!!! you pay almost 400 dollars per night and you get a service of a motel! they would tell you to do everything yourself! or wait for an hours until they have the time to bring something up to your room!!! was a very bad choice! the only nice thing was the location!!!

Great location at Zell am see lake

I believe this isthe best hotel avaliable in Zell am see. Great location with view over the lake. However, very expensive Lundry services. We paid about 600 euro for 6 nights for lundry servcies, we were 2 adults and an infant!!!! They lost my wife scarf when we gave it out for lundry. My brother was staying at another room and one of his shirts went missing. So I suggest ton lock up everything before you leave the room. Otherwise almost everything was ok.

I had an excellent experience in zell am see. This hotel is amazing, you can enjoy seeing the lake from your room balcony.

Wonderful location on the lake.

Grand old hotel on the lake but recently refurbished. Warning, if driving don't trust gps directions. That have blocked roads for pedestrians. You have to be buzzed through a blocked road with no signage. I suggest you call for directions. Location is right in the heart of town.

Best Ever hotel in Zell Am See

Booked two rooms for 3 days stay with family, Grand Hotel Zell Am See was probably the best of the best on this island for location view. I booked mountain view room, when i checked in i was offered for upgrade rooms with reasonable addition cost, I've gone for it, and really worth it.
Rooms with very big balcony viewing the mountain and lake, it was really amazing and unforgettable. stay

Anniversary weekend

Had a great stay with my spouse for our anniversary weekend. Noticed that a few other reviewers commented on poor service - I'll just say that the service we received was solid - what you would expect of a nice hotel. No complaints in that regard at all - staff was very helpful.
