Amazing place surrounded by beautiful nature, with gorgeous views over the hills. We had the chance to dine at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner, absolutely outstanding quality of food and drinks. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, perfect for a getaway.
The only downside was the number of bugs we found in the room. We understand that the windows are left open during cleaning, but adding screens would really help prevent this.
Overall, a wonderful stay in a stunning location, we would definitely come back

My wife and I stayed here on a two week trip through Italy and this was hands down our favorite hotel and meal of the whole trip. The location couldn’t be more peaceful and beautiful, the staff was so kind and attentive, and the food was exceptional. We can’t wait to come back!

The property is gorgeous, the staff was very attentive and all the requests were promptly addressed.
The room was big and clean but they don’t have AC. During the day can get warm but overnight there were no issues.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.
Overall we highly recommend this property.

This resort was the definition of peaceful. We went during late March as part of our honeymoon trip and it was beautiful! The staff are all wonderful and sweet. The food was great and the view paired with it made it worth the stay. They are very affordable for what felt like staying in a castle! The resort offered many things to do in all seasons so we would like to go back in the future to see what summer is like there!

True heaven on earth. If you want to feel like you are a king or noble Lord in the 17th century, visit Villa Campestri. We were told the place was built in 1200ad and SO many things appear as it did 500 years ago. I wish you could see my videos! The door hardware was true medieval metal and thick wooden doors. Tile floors, and ancient wardrobes and tables; books on every desk and table; BUT the luxury amenities were where needed- shower, bidet, huge sink, nice bed and tons of drawers and storage. But the true appeal to this place was the grounds and staff. The grounds were perfectly manicured with huge trees, flowers, and green lush ground cover; surrounded by an active olive trees orchard and stone/brick buildings. The estate overlooks the small village in the valley and makes you feel like a king. The service and staff were truly beyond belief. We never heard ‘no’ and ate at the restaurant for 2 dinners (superb), picnic lunch (so cute and filling) as well as a full breakfast feast. If you want to escape to another time and place, this is the place to go.

Amazing three day stay

Our stay at Villa Campestri was amazing. The hotel is in a beautiful location in the countryside outside of Florence and the views are spectacular. You will definitely need a car to get here, up the twisty and steep roads, but that’s what makes it great. The service was exceptional and staff couldn’t do enough to help. The pool and restaurants are in perfect settings although watch out for the mosquitos! The rooms are well furnished in old traditional style, although due to this the light and windows are limited. Breakfast each day was a buffet style with many options. We ate dinner twice here, once on there Monday night pizza night and the second a la Carter. Both were delicious and trying the olive oil was a highlight!

The Perfect Tuscan Vacation

Perfect rooms in a perfect villa, perched above a perfect valley and village below... the perfect Tuscan setting. We enjoyed the most wonderful stay! I can't say enough about the hospitality of the staff, from the ease in communicating with them before our stay, to Viola's tour of the property, and the follow up after our stay. Our meals were fantastic, too. Our extended family joined us for Easter, and we were treated like friends. We spent the afternoon enjoying aperitivo on the lawn, and were even treated to a friendly visit from the owners' sweet dogs (who live in a separate home on the property). The servers in the beautiful restaurant were so friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes and especially the olive oil. We really wanted to take Giacomo home with us, but it seems the owners think he's as great as we do. We hear the location is perfect for visiting Florence (20 minutes away), but I don't know why anyone would want to leave the villa during their stay. Our rooms were incredible and spacious (and immaculate, of course), and the views of the valley and town below were breathtaking. I was particularly impressed with the \"historically accurate\" decor. Spot on. And there are many indoor and outdoor areas to enjoy. The photos of the property simply can't do it justice - this place is everything you could dream up about Tuscany, and more. We hope to return!

Enchanting time in the Tuscan hills.

Rooms

Our room was large, spotlessly clean and had wonderful views over the olive groves. There's a friendly cockerel that starts crowing quite early on in the morning, but it's a toss up between getting woke up early or trying to sleep with the windows closed. As the temperature was so warm, trying to sleep with closed windows was out of the question.

Staff

All of the staff were incredibly welcoming, warm and friendly. Everyone would go out of their way to help us. The only thing here worth mentioning is they operate with very few staff so don't expect pool-side drink service. If you want a drink, go to reception and ask and they'll bring drinks out to you wherever you're sitting.

Food

We are in the hotel restaurant most evenings and really enjoyed the food and wine. Dinner at Villa Campestri can easily be a three hour affair so make sure you don't make plans. Those three hours are filled with beautiful views and courses of food. It isn't slow service, it is very well paced between courses. Breakfasts were also good, highlight being the orange juicers allowing you to make yourself freshly squeezed orange juice.

Grounds

They're breathtaking. It's absolutely stunning at the Villa and there's plenty of seating around to allow you to just soak it in without feeling in top of other guests. A word of caution; at this time of year (August), we found that the grounds were swarming with flying bugs. Mostly this is fine, but there are a high number of wasps.

Really superb villa with very friendly staff. Rooms are very luxurious. The included buffet breakfast is superb with assortment of cold and hot food, fresh fruit to squeeze. The location is superb up in the hills north of Florence, though life without a car would be difficult. The grounds are huge with a couple of nice walks around the olive groves. The restaurant is excellent, but quite expensive - the Florentine steak is awesome!!!

Our first room was hot and stuffy plus had noise from the restaurant dinner crowd. There's no AC at this resort and we traveled in August.
But we were moved to a ground floor room with extraordinary views and easy access to the pool.
This is a fabulous honeymoon resort but not ideal for families with active toddlers. If you want to get anywhere you need a car. It's a 5-10 minute curvy, steep drive to the main road. We tried other area dinner spots but the restaurant at this resort was hands down the best on the area. Breakfast was also a great start to the day.
This location is isolated and an hour drive but only 26km to Florence. Not a great location if you are coming for Florence but wonderful if you want a genuine Tuscany experience.

It is a bit tough to find without GPS. I think Expedia said it was around 12 km from Florence. Maybe as the crow flies, but took close to an hour to get there.

Anyways, the room was beautiful. The location was off the beaten track. If you need a little downtime, this is a great place for it. Nice hikes.

Perfect Tuscan Getaway

The Villa Campestri is better than advertised. It is a great, old, but fully refurbished small resort in an idyllic setting in the Tuscan hills. The air is clean. The surroundings quiet other than country sounds My wife did not want to leave. The breakfast was excellent. The dinners were very good with great ambiance. Our room/suite was unique, situated in an refurbished attic with many antiques and steps to a second bedroom and other steps to a high end but antique looking bathroom. The only drawbacks were no air conditioning and no screens on the windows so mosquitoes came in which might be a bigger issue in the summer. And the windows were quite low so there were limited views but there were many lounge chairs and wicker furniture spread around the estate so we rarely stayed in our room. The drive to Florence/Firenza is somewhat windy and slow but worth a day. We would highly recommend staying here if you want to experience Tuscany.

R&R in a Breathtaking Tuscan Italian Setting

If you are looking for some rest and relaxation Villa Campestri is the place for you. The Villa and its surroundings are breathtaking, the staff is extremely friendly and professional and goes above and beyond to meet your needs. The buffet breakfast is freshly prepared and delicious every morning.

Although the drive up to the resort is a bit treacherous the location is great because you can drive down to Vicchio and take the train into Florence. During our stay (9th - 14th) September there was a farmers market in Borgo San Lorenzo and we got to savior many locally grown and produced items: wine, olive oil, yogurt, cheese, and jams. There was also a food court at the market where you could purchase many Italian home made dishes.
Would highly recommend Villa Campestri Olive Oil Resort as a vacation stay.

Beautiful resort--Don't go in July (NO AC)

This is a beautiful resort. It is very picture perfect. The free breakfast was wonderful. We had dinner at the restaurant which was good but be prepared to be there for 2 hours at least. The front desk speaks some English and was very helpful. It was quite a drive up the mountain to get there, so don't plan for too many trips away. The biggest downfalls were that there is NO AC. We went in July and it was 100 degrees. It was very uncomfortable during the day but ok at night with the windows open (no screens). My kids got pretty bitten up by the bugs. Our beds were pretty hard too. We were exhausted from the time change from US, so we fell asleep. Also, the wifi didn't work in our 2 rooms. Only works closer to the main building where breakfast is.

Outstanding location and setting

As soon as we arrived we were thrilled with not only the location and views but the beautiful room we had been assigned.
I wanted luxury and it delivered from the wonderful setting and various terraces to the lovely food and drink.
You need a car because there is nowhere within walking distance to eat or drink, but the food in the restaurant was so good we preferred to eat in most evenings.
Breakfast was very good with lots of variety.
Not a lot to do apart from walk, swim and relax ( which suited us) but very close to Florence by car or train.
Nothing was too much for the staff and they ensured our stay was perfect.

Fantastic in every aspect. Spacious rooms, great terrace and fantastic panoramic view. The only slight negative (and this is not the fault of the hotel) was that it was mainly families staying here and with a deep pool, all the families crowded around the steps which made it difficult for others to get in and out of the pool. In the afternoons it would sometimes get noisy with the kids playing in the pool. Perhaps the hotel should consider installing a children's pool. There is certainly space and I'm sure the families would appreciate it. This is a very minor point though and I would not hesitate to return to this fantastic villa. The staff are great and gave amazing wine recommendations for our dinner every night. Very friendly and accomodating in every way. The place is immaculate and there are plenty of places to relax around the property; from the front lawn, to the terrace and the courtyard and of course the pool. The food was very good too. Freshly made pasta every day. Prices reasonable too.

Just Amazing and Beyond Beautiful

Two of my friends and I had a trip planned in various parts of Italy, and I was the planner. When I first saw this resort, I just knew we needed to visit. With husbands at home and the three of us girls having fun this looked like the perfect place fo some R&R time after visiting Rome. As it turned out, we loved it so much we cancelled our trip to Venice and stayed another 4 days! The food was lovely, the staff was kind and helpful, the resort was amazing. The rooms were large and spacious with everything we could need, wifi was good most of the time (but realize you are a hour out of Florence up high in the mountains/foot hills - you can only be realistic about wifi) and we were there to relax, you can surf the internet anywhere.
I am gluten free and they were very helpful and had GF pastries in the morning, eggs and bacon, fresh OJ etc! Most days we could not even eat lunch and dinner was great with several choices.
We hired Tuk Tuk Florence to take us on a tour and they were helpful in arranging transport to Florence and back when we needed it, it is quite far (1 hour) and the cost was 90Euro each way but worth it to stay in such a great place.

Stunning, Beautiful and Stylish

Everything about the hotel was absolutely excellent. From the moment I arrived I was made to feel very welcome - all the staff from the people on reception to the restaurant were very very good - open, engaging and took time despite being full. The location and views are quite stunning and the whole place felt very relaxing yet at the same time super efficient.

The rooms including the public area were a delight with great style and in keeping with the history and the hotel location. The food at all times was excellent.

I have absolutely nothing to say against the hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough. I will most definitely book again and for longer - I was there just four nights - I could live there !!

Expect a rustic rural experience

Isolated and quaint resort, off the beaten track. The drive up to the resort is quite a windy and dizzying experience. Once you arrive though, the resort really makes the overall experience quite positive.

Rooms and bathrooms are spacious by European standards. Staff are attentive and helpful with most of your needs.

Breakfast is super impressive, providing us with a great feast to start each day. The olive oil made on site is simply amazing, super fresh and tasty.

Two minor complaints were:
1. Lack of heat during the chilly nights. The radiators are there, but the hotel didn't turn it on for some reason.
2. Wifi only worked in the main lobby/restaurant area.

What a place. After a rather hair raising drive at night this place is unique The place looks great the area around it.Great views The accommodation was superb . The food, wow,free breakfast was best in Italy. We also dined there at night. You have to do this or face the scary drive up/down the hill why bother this is the best evening dining food as well . . Your not far from Florence but you are in another world. We were there when apples were in season,just pick and eat as many as you like.

Fabulous hotel in the hills of Tuscany with informative and attentive staff. The views of the valley and mountains are stunning too. The restaurant service was good with a high quality of fine foods and wine. The hotel is close enough to other villages (you need a hire car or taxi) if you fancy traditional pizzeria and pasta in real Italian setting. You'll need a phrase book if you don't speak Italian. Due to the thickness of the old building walls you can only get wifi in the Hotel lobby and restaurant, but that wasn't a problem for us.

An idyllic dream come true

Staying at Villa Campestri is like walking into a beautiful dream. The setting is so peaceful. The room, the villa, the grounds, the view - they all take your breath away. We planted our own little olive tree and got to name it. It is so moving to know that this tree will produce wonderful olive oil for generations to come. We may live on the other side of the planet, but we will always be deeply connected to Tuscany because of this.

Perfect place to relax in the Mugello Valley

The Mugello Valley in northern tuscany is stunning and this hotel is the perfect place to base yourself and enjoy the surrounding area.

Just 45 mins from Florence it also allows for further a field exploration of Italy (Rome 1h 30mins from Florence by train, Venice 2hrs from Florence by train).

The staff at the hotel are really friendly and do everything in their powers to make your stay enjoyable.

From breakfast in the cool resturant, to mornings relaxing by the pool, afternoon drinks overlooking the Mugello valley fabulous evening meals on the outdoor terrace - whats not to like !

There are also plenty of decent resturants in the surrounding area if you want a change of scene / to try something differnet during your stay.

Beautiful, relaxing hotel in stunning location

A wonderful holiday that didn't disappoint. Super hotel in a wonderful, peaceful location with magnificent views. Better than their website, much more intimate. We found the staff excellent, genuinely friendly and helpful. It is a very rural location that you do need a car to get up to, however it is well signposted from the main roads. The pool set on the hill side is superb & has magnificent views, but you need to be reasonably fit to get back up to the hotel (steep steps or steep slope) The restaurant food was extremely good, fine dining style, they also offered well priced 3/4 course set price menus. Our room set in the main house was spacious, but rather dark, due to thickness of the walls around window, but the space, and the fact we had our own access from outside made up for it. This hotel is set in a lovely part of Tuscany, from which you can venture by car across the valley and up into the mountains (yes, mountains, albeit not large ones, definitely not hills) and discover fantastic scenery and wonderful mountain villages (lots of windy roads with quite big drops). We also visited Florence really easily from this hotel by dropping down to the local village, where you can park your car for free, hop on a regular train service straight into the centre of Florence. We also found it easy to access the main Motorway (20 mins) to visit Sienna and Cortona for the day. We would definitely consider returning to this area to discover more and definitely to this hotel

Amazing views with Historic Charm

Historic Charm in amazing scenery. The staff were both friendly and helpful while also being very professional. Service was prompt while being indiscreet - never intruding. I did a cooking course learning the tricks of Italian sauces. A most enjoyable experience which will never be forgotten. As in all Italian hotels, the 'double' bed was two singles, made individually and pushed together. (This might be standard in Europe - as an Australian I expected one bed.) The only negative in an amazing few days.

Absolutely wonderful!!!

We had the best time at Villa Campestri. My husband and I spent three nights there and loved every minute of it. The grounds are beautiful, the restaurant was delicious, and the service was great. The only downside was the wifi wasn't working, but honestly - who needs it in Italy?? I would definitely go back.

I love this place!!!

I first stayed at Villa Campestri in April of 2012 and fell in love. The view of the Tuscan countryside is incredible. The Villa is wonderful and cozy. The staff is friendly and helpful. I was able to visit again in June of 2013 and was not disappointed. The rooms are clean, comfortable and good size. The food and wine is good and reasonably priced.

Dream holiday

The Villa is located high above the town of Vicchio and offers wonderful views of the Mugello valley. The rooms are huge and exquisitely and tastefully furnished with antiques.The staff are so friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The restaurant is fantastic with delicious and original food and an excellent wine list. The reception staff will organise activities for you and the truffle hunt experience was a real highlight. Massages are available as are olive oil tastings. Quite our best holiday for years!

Beautiful countryside

Villa Camprestri was everything that you conjur up when dreaming of the tuscan countryside and an Italian villa. The grounds and rooms were amazing! It was so peaceful and serene it was a little disappointing to have to leave and travel to Florence while we were there. Only 3 Klms away from the station we parked our hire car there and travelled by train which took 1 hour. The customer service was first class and the staff made you feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. I can recommend the olive oil massage which was divine outside in the bamboo house. The haitdryer is the only thing I could fault. The restaurant food was very good also but there are other options.

Beautiful 800 year old Mountain estate in Tuscany

The Villa Campestri is an absolutely gorgeous estate in the Tuscan mountains. It is located approximately 2 miles from the town of Vicchio and can be reached by driving up a small and windy road. Once at the Villa Campestri the views down the valley will take your breath away. The Villa is 800 years old and was tastefully renovated to keep its old world charm. If there is one thing worth criticizing it would be the very spartan make up of most bathrooms (most rooms have no tubs and only have a very basic shower with the drain located in the bathroom floor). In addition, the beds are definitely more on the hard side. If you like breakfast, this is the place to be. The spread in the morning does not miss anything. Villa Campestri is not far from Florence. We took a day trip to Florence and it took us approximately 40 minutes from the Villa to downtown Florence by car. All in all a wonderful place to stay if you can do without a fancy bathroom.

We had the privilege to have stayed here for four nights in June. It all starts with a tree-lined drive and then a warm welcome at the front desk. The restoration of the building is remarkable as well as the interior decoration, no detail was spared. Truly an authentic tuscan countryside feel from top to bottom. It is also elegant and yet not stiff. If you want to wind down this villa is for you, it is quiet enough you only hear crickets in the evening, birds in the morning, you don't hear cars running, no tv blasting (not that there wasnt a tv-we just didnt use it much), and no machines humming - it is truly a restful place. By the pool is a great view of the smaller towns below, we enjoyed most our afternoons here. We also loved breakfasts, there were cherries picked fresh from their own farm, fresh eggs that you boil yourself in the egg boiler, orange halves that you juiced yourself in the juicer, warm croissants, bacon, sausages...it was a great experience!

Stayed here with my wife after visiting Venice. Can be a bit tricky getting here, recommend using a GPS to find it. Amazing views from the property, but very secluded. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was a bit outdated, but was ok. Shower could use a different set-up, had folding doors that didn't always stay together. Bed was a bit hard, with tile flooring throughout the unit. Delicious food in the restaurant, and nice breakfast spread in the morning. Would recommend if you're looking to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle. Took a drive to Florence for the day, only about and hour away. Overall, a good experience.

Hotel with character and charm.

The hotel is a 13th century villa with a lot of character, situated on top of a high hill with superb views all around. A car is really required, the access road is a narrow switch back but we did not have a problem, Good size bedrooms with large lounges on all 3 floors, nicely furnished in keeping with an old villa, Meals and selection of wines was to a very good restaurant standard, the evening meal varied with a chefs special each day, you can eat out but it required a car journey into the valley below, There are pleasant short walks from the hotel with a map provided. There are more serious walking areas close by,
Florence easily reached using the local train from the stations in the valley below. Good center for touring the small towns, hills and mountains of north Tuscany.
Certainly a good hotel for couples

Absolutely Lovely

This is our second stay at the Villa. Although somewhat far from Florence, this is one of the most gorgeous properties we have stayed at to date. Set in a n authentic old-world villa and neighboring guest house, amongst hundreds of acres of olive trees and forests, this property IS the definition of a northern Tuscan experience. The hotel rooms are well-appointed yet rustic, impeccably clean, and extremely comfortable. The service is terrific, from the front desk which helped us locate our lost baggage, to the restaurant with it's top-notch staff and chef. And don't be surprised to see the owners (sisters) themselves on property making sure everyone's Tuscan experience is special. While you're there, be sure to sample the property's own olive oil. It is divine!

Villa Campestri was everything I hoped it would be. Beautiful, historic building. Amazing views and an extremely helpful and friendly staff. Food at the restaurant was amazing. It's out of the way which is great if you are looking for a refuge from the crowds. Keep that in mind if you are planning a lot of tours. You will need a car to get to the train and will be at the mercy of the train schedule. That being said, it was more than worth it.

After an extremely windy drive up a mountainous road, you finally arrive at Villa Campestri and it's most definitely worth the trip! The grounds, hotel and staff are wonderful, a very relaxing environment with delicious food. It is on the more expensive side but if you are after a relaxing break in scenic area of Italy without hordes of tourists, this is your place! Car hire is a must to explore, lots to see locally and popular spots such as Florence, Lucca, Montecatini Terme are all within a leisurely 1 hour drive. Wonderful stay, would love to return!

Genuine sophistication, not to be missed!

We chose Villa Campestri from its Trip Advisor reviews for a single night stay during a Tuscany driving tour and were not disappointed. The hotel has been fitted to a very high standard without losing any of the truely authentic touches. The reception staff could not have been more pleasant but for us the crowning glory was the evening meal; it was one of the best we've ever eaten and served with descrete panache. Around €100 for the two of us including drinks but worth every cent. The breakfast too was a wonderful affair, genuinely delicious.

The hotel offers massages at €80 and olive oil tasting sessions at €50 which we felt were a little highly priced, but on the other hand is pleased to offer free use of mountain bikes for exploring the surrounding countryside.

We would thoroughly recommend Villa Campestri and would definately consider returning when next in the area.

Fantastically run and friendly hotel

A beautiful hotel in the middle of Tuscany. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful at all times. The rooms were beautifully clean with clean bath linen provided every day. The only downside was that there was no air conditioning in the rooms which given this summers temperatures made sleeping quite uncomfortable. But it also meant that the peace and quiet was not disturbed by the drone of an air conditioning unit. The restaurant food was fabulous but expensive (although half board option is available). The variety of choice for breakfast was excellent.You will need a car to explore the area as the hotel is in the middle of the countryside. The grounds of the hotel are extensive and well maintained, there is a lovely pool and free mountain bike hire. We would certainly recomend this hotel to anyone.

Villa Campestri. A slice of Italian heaven

Villa Campestri is a true Tuscony experience! Everything you would expect to see in the countryside. If you like a quiet, peaceful environment with a great view, then VC is for you. It's located near the town of Vicchio(10 minute drive) which has a train station that can take you to Florence. Otherwise, like us, you probably want a car to get to Florence(45-60 min drive) The VC has a wonderful staff that will do anything within their means to make you feel right at home. Make sure you eat there at least once. For the 1st time in my life I had to actually meet a chef. He's a young guy with a bright culinary future ahead of him. The rooms are what you would expect to see in the old country, filled with charm. The beds were hard but that seems to be the European way so I won't hold that against them. The dining area at night is romantic and the common areas make getting to know your fellow guests quite easy and enjoyable. My sweetie and I are thinking about having our wedding here next year! Thats how good this place is! This is a five star masked as a 4 star. Best hotel we stayed in hands down.

Olive Grove - beauty you cannot capture in a photo

Simply breathtaking. We arrived late at night and were met by friendly, accommodating staff who immediately acknowledged how hungry we were after a long drive and opened the kitchen after hours to serve us sandwiches and dessert! The rooms are large and comfortable and decorated with an old world feel. You overlook beautiful landscape while dining on delicious food including olive oil ice cream. You have a chance to relax and enjoy the serene beauty of the landscape. A must see! We will definitely be coming back :)

Villa Campestri Near Vicchio

This 13th century villa is located on beautiful, manicured grounds and is a working olive orchard. The villa has an excellent restaurant and also offers cooking classes by the chef. The location is at the end of a very narrow, winding road near the small town of Vicchio. The villa breathes history and still has original artifacts in the rooms. The views from here and especially from the pool area are stunning. Olive oil tastings are also available but are a bit expensive. Sandra at the front desk was very friendly and helpful.

Lovely Italian Country Hotel

Excellent hotel in 400 year old farmhouse. Friendly people, good morning breakfast included. Great mountain views. Excellent (but expensive) restaurant in the hotel. It is on top of a mountain so getting there is a little tricky but it is well worth the trip. A great way to visit Florence since the hotel is only 1 hour by train from downtown Florence and you don't have to deal with parking or traffic. Highly recommend

A pleasant place to stay

We booked for two nights. We were initially put in an annex room, which was below expectation, despite booking a classic room for 2 adults + 1 child. However, when we asked for another room we were offered a superb room with view over the valley. Restaurant has very good but smallish menu, we tried the taster menu that was excellent. Wine list either house -very good at 18euros or next price 50euros.

Alles war wirklich super. Ein kleiner Verbesserungsvorschlag wäre, dass die Heizung früher aktiviert würden, da es doch recht kalt manchmal war.
Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und das Frühstücksbuffet war sehr lecker mit Spezialitäten aus der Region.
