The property has a magical feel. Definitely recommended for a quite treat out. The lady at reception was a gem. However the hotel manager was not looking to keep guests happy and not very understanding. The ambiance was very welcoming. I would recommend a stay however the management staff require some refresher training.

Overall not bad, rooms need attention on small items.
Wine list prices very high.
Carnivore restaurant does not offer enough alternatives to non-game eaters. Expected better.
Hotel staff are friendly and spa treatment was good. Water feature was not working and music choice not good for a massage ‘atmosphere.’

The overall experience was ok but we will not go out of our way to visit again.

Amazing Hotel

This hotel was truly amazing, the architecture and decor are Beautiful, our room was just as we saw on the website. It had Thatch ceilings with high vaulted beams, there was even an outdoor shower in the patio garden off the Bathroom. The bed is by far the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the pillow menu was a real treat. yes; they gave you a variety of pillows to choose from. The Staff are very friendly and accommodating, the food was great, there were a couple of restaurants to choose from, the pool is beautiful and sparkling clean. They have a gift shop with lots of souvenirs to choose from and all this within beautiful Botanical gardens. There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about our stay at this hotel however I did find the cord on the hair dryer to be very short so you may want to bring your own. This Hotel was truly a fabulous experience, very sorry to leave we could have stayed for a month.

My stay at the hotel was outstanding. I had fun even for one night. My aim for the booking was to have breakfast in the morning.
I used to stay at the hotel with my colleagues because we were working close by. I did not enjoy it then because I was not there to have fun, but now I stayed during the holidays and it felt like I stayed for a week.

Very disappointing stay!

Phone's in the room did not work. We had to walk to reception to ask for ice for the room. We were also not informed that the use of the pool facilities was not available due to a private function (Hotel hired out the pool area for kids party). It was very hot on this day and got stuck in the hotel room instead of being able to take a swim! Huge disappointment.

We couldn't stay at Misty Hills, as we arrived and only then was told we are unable to use the pool, one of the main reasons why we arrived early to spend time at the pool. The manager was disgusting, facetious and very unfriendly and unwilling to sort the problem out.
It took an hour to get re-booked at Avianto, only after I had to lose my temper for the manager to pull up his socks to do something about sorting out the situation.
I will NEVER book anyone here, ever. Avianto also was not impressive.

lost my booking

i was very frustrated since i got there. i phoned in the morning to check my booking and make sure all is paid for and they confirmed it. when i got there they could not find my booking. so i had to stand there for almost 20min searching for a mail to mail confirmation to them. then that wasnt good enough so i had to stand there for them to make a new booking. so eventually i got to my room and when i got there my fan was laying outside on the patio and there was sugar and shampoo on the bench so i was not very happy. at reception they took my licence and credit card as its a procedure and im fine with that. they gave the card back not taking the details and did not give my licence back.. so eventually they had to bring me my licence and come to my room to get my credit card details... so since i walked in there i was not happy. the receptionist was very friendly while i was very upset so props to her for handling it calmly

Good for a three star establishment, except...

If this was a 3 star hotel and was a bit cheaper (in terms of the room and food prices), it would get a thumbs up from me. But at 4 starts and the prices, it didn't solidly deliver on my expectations. Also, aside from a few stand-out staff, the majority of their people under-delivered too. The place has awesome potential, but management needs to beef up their efforts. (I was there for a three day conference).

A nice surprise !

What a surprise. The photos do not show the true picture, the resort has much more charm and a lovely feeling. The entire family enjoyed the quick weekend getaway. The kids enjoyed the castle, swimming pool and games room. The wife enjoyed the superb spa, and dinner, lunch and breakfast and all three different restaurants were excellent. We will go again and have recommended the resort to friends as well.

Magnificent time at Misty Hills

I was there for three days and two nights. Checked in on Saturday 25 April and checked out on Monday 27 April. My wife and I and about 20 friends who stayed there over the long weekend enjoyed a magnificent time. Check-in was quick and efficient. The executive suite was big, comfortable and spotless. We had a private dinner at the Elephant Room/Carnivore with more friends who did not stay over and we were impressed with the service and the food. The overall experience was so good that we will return to Misty Hills again when another opportunity to get away arises.

Do not stay here - Double Charged

The hotel is nice with beautiful gardens.
However standard suites are not 4 star quality and have no air conditioning or fans for really hot days/nights.
I was also double charged by Hotels.com and the hotel itself and am having a lot of difficulty getting responses from either Hotels.com or Misty Hills, as there seems no interest to correct the situation.

Great stay with some minor improvements needed.

It was an amazing setting
The food was absolutely fantastic and the restaurant catered to our individual specifications due to being halaal.
The staff was wonderful and pleasant.
The place looks exactly as the pictures advertised.
The Spa though does state in the brochure a heated pool but it is not heated.
The downside moment for this stay was when I checked in, the receptionist who assisted me wasn't very informative and I was told to take my own bags to the room, only later to find out that there is a porter service available, which was not called upon my arrival.
The parking and the rooms are quite a distance.
That for me was highly annoying specially taking into consideration it is a four star rated hotel.

Wedding Weekend Away

We arrived early and disappointingly couldn't check in before the stipulated time. There was no place to leave luggage so we left it in the car and went to get some drinks and food. The Hotel is cashless(we didn't know this) so have to pay with some sort of card so be prepared. If we had of checked in we could have signed to th room that I had already paid for but since no key no room signing. While waiting I asked form the wifi access but it didn't work anywhere in the hotel. Eventually we got keys and went to the room. No one carried our bags and we had to walk up hill lugging everything ourselves. Then ook itself smelt like the previous guest had been ill and it had been wiped up with a dirty cloth. We tried to air the room but it didn't work and we only had 1 hour to get ready for the wedding we were attending so left it. The taps in the basin and shower were terrible, too close to the wall so you couldnt put your hands under them to wash. Had to fill a basin to wash hands. In the middle of summer the room was hot and there was no fan or aircon either. Fortunately we were only in the room for 4 hours after the wedding and then had to check out to return early the next morning. A longer stay would have been terrible. Did I mention the empty mini bar?

Beautiful surroundings

We only spent one night but it was a lovely getaway. I love that it's only 35 minutes from Jo'burg, and the layout of the lodge was beautiful, whit lots of greenery and water features. The room was comfortable though not luxury, and the staff were efficient and friendly.

Simply amazing, the location is perfect, tranquil, private and friendly staff. I am concerned about Carnivores the Resturant, I felt a little rushed. We went out to the terrace and when We returned to our table, it was given to other patrons. We obviously left, maybe We should have left without paying. When we did leave there was confusion at the front desk and our waiter was no-where to be found, after asking various people for assistance to pay bill.

Quiet Weekend Away

A very lovely experience, We arrived at night and had beautiful lit pathways through thick bush leading us to our Room. Staff were very friendly and Check in was a breeze. Room was tidy. Bathroom was a bit of an issue, but acceptable. The Dining at Breakfast - Superb, dining at the Carnivore - Not so much. If you are there for the experience - carnivore is fine, if you are there for the food rather try an alternative. Overall a very lovely weekend and GREAT value for money. Will Go again. Great location, only about 20mins from Randburg - but it feels like you are in Limpopo.

The hotel summer house restraint and spa service was the best I have bad in many years especially the summer house Restraurant .rooms where clean and grounds where clean. I then went for dinner at the carnivor restraunt, there was know service at all the food was good. We did not even stay for dessert as waited 45 minute and no waiters could be found. The toilets where the dirtiest toilets I have see In years, public toilets are cleaner. Dnt see how most off hotel is run brilliantly but one restraunt. Seems to be so badly run.

Pleasant hotel but cold in winter

This was my first vist to Johannesburg and I statyed at this hotel basEd upon the reviews I read. On the whole it was a good experience and it is in lovely surroundings with African decor in the room. I went in winter and though they provide an eleectric heather I did not find it very effective and had to ask for more blankets - I had 5 on my bed! Breakfast is decent but it is the same food almost daily and a bit of variety would be nice. TV channels could do with som tuning and be more up to date though I was not there to watch TV. Carinovore reaturant is good for any meat lover - go there hungry! The hotel is a bit out of the way from central Jihanesesburg and though it is in a peacful location it is more expensive in terms of travelling to central Johanesesburg and the airpirt but I would stay at this hotel again.

Our Hotel of Choice near Johannesburg

Basically this hotel is a mini-Paradise. The rooms, their surrounds, the swimming pool, the restaurant and bar services, the staff - all perfect. The Carnivore restaurant in the hotel grounds, is great fun and reasonably priced.
We can't wait to go again.

THIS LARGE HOTEL / MEETING FACILITY IS IN A PLEASANT TROPICAL SETTING. THE STAFF IS VERY NICE AND HELPFUL. IT CAN BE VERY EASY TO GET LOST AT THIS LOCATION.
THE SPA ON THE PROPERTY SHOULD NOT BE MISSED (ENDULGE). BREAKFAST IS WONDERFUL.

Misty Hills Hotel - a gem.

The hotel is situated a long drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria but is worth the trouble. It is set in its own substantial grounds. The public areas are set in separate buildings in lush, beautifully-maintained vegetation - it feels more jungle than gardens.

The room we had was a good size; its only problem was that it was quite dark because of the lush vegetation surrounding it. Most rooms looked much more light and open.

The Carnivore restaurant on site is a must for dinner. Cooked meats on Masai swords are brought to the table and carved to order.

The breakfast buffet is fresh and ample, with eggs cooked to order.

We have used the restauant before, but not stayed in the hotel. We would say that it is great for a night or two to explore the local area, but not as a base for visiting Johannesburg or Pretoria.

We will be staying again.

Excellent service. Personnel are very friendly and helpfull. The gardens are well maintained and is beautiful. Food is excellent and tasteful. Resturants well organised and clean.

Room 203. I think your cupboard under the TV is unstable and old. TV connections not properly done and therefore bad TV picture(signal). Spider webs should be removed before quests move in. Pillows are to flat.

Proposal: Keep certain amount of prefered drinks in fridge for quests. This can be done when they arrive. According to a list, quests can mark the consumed items and pay the following day. Thus no need for a lot of room service requests after hours. Keep a ice machine for self service at reception. Also a sweets,chips and cool drinks machine for self service at reception.

Parking is 1/2 mile from the room in a dirt field. Resort is in the middle of nowhere. Luckily the nights were cool since \"air conditioning\" consisted of a 10 inch fan with bad bearings. The bell hop was carrying an Uzi over his shoulder. My wife asked if that was because of the animals. I told her \"Yeah, the two legged type!\"
