The service was excellent and met all expectations you might have. Despite us making changes short term and have a very late arrival Dana was there to make sure all was perfect.
5 stars from us.
The breakfast very nice as we had possibility to try local pastries, cheese and more. All in all a pleasant stay and a good experience, can only recommend it

The place to be in the area!

This is an incredible charming place that brings you back in the centuries of the region. The property is super well maintained and the room has everything we could have needed and wished (coffee, tv, kitchen corner, and also dog friendly amenities such as big bed and bowls).
Also the host made us feel super welcome and did an amazing job on providing info about the region and place to visit.
Location is perfect if you plan to explore the Piemonte region as everything is an a radius of 1h drive, including Turin and Milan.
If there is one thing that we regret is to not have stayed longer.

Le service et les produits sont frais au petit déjeuner, les chambres sont spacieuses avec beaucoup de charme et très bien équipées.
La propriété est magnifique et la cave est extra.

nice place to have diner, good service.

we stopped overnight on our way back home. The staff was very helpful to welcome us with diner on our late arrival. they are very nice people. The plase is charmfull but quite simple. The shower place is super small.

Overnight stay in Lu.

Difficult to find but that might of been our fault. Location a bit off putting, looked like a work in progress. Room was ok but the meal that night was unbelievably good. If they put as much effort into the hotel side of the business as they do into the restaurant it would be excellent.

Lu is a little off the beaten track but once we arrived at Palazzo Paleologi Resort we realized how special this medeival town and resort really were. The resort was once the summer home of a wealthy 14th century Italian family. Our room was clean, comfortable and had a full kitchen. Marco, the resort manager, was very kind and accomodating.

Ideal for family reunion

We had a large group and this establishment catered very well for our purposes. Rooms / suites had basic cooking facilities and decent sized fridge, generous sized bathrooms and plenty of space throughout. Beds and pillows were more comfortable than in some of the more expensive hotels on our itinerary. A lovely outdoor area with table, chairs and playground meant that we could meet for aperitivo while children played in sight. It was a real bonus to have the wonderful Antico Monastero restaurant available for fine dining. Local wines are terrific and inexpensive.

Wonderful historic Monastery stay

A beautiful historic Monastery located in a quiet hilltop town in Northern Italy. This is a real local village experience off the tourism beaten track, in a place full of charm and old world feeling. The food was extremely affordable and exceptional, as well as the very inexpensive excellent local wines. A visit to the Cantina Sociale is a must to sample to local Barbera grape as well as other varietals. This is a step back in time in a most relaxing atmosphere. The proprietors, Atillio & Peireina were perfect hosts, in the stye of the accommodation, which made it a most pleasant experience.

Wonderful & unique!

Stayed at the Palazzo for 6 nights and found it to be a wonderful spot for touring the NW Italian countryside. A lovingly restored monastery from the 1400's, with updated amenities (A/C, TV, kitchenette). Spacious clean units (we had an apartment for 4). The town is lovely and very very quiet. The only sounds you hear are the church bells every hour. Not touristy at all. 2 good restaurants within walking distance (La Trinita & Orazio) and the hotel has a restaurant on site (we did not eat there). Not a lot of English spoken but no problems checking in or with service. They do have limited check in & out times when the office is open. Great base spot for touring the Monferrato, where one hill town is prettier than the next with vineyards, cornfields, sunflower fields between. You definitely need a car in this area. Roads are well marked. We did day trips to Valle d' Aosta, Torino, Acqui Terme/Sasello/Albisola, Novara, Lake Maggiore & Orta. All fantastic!

Exactly where we wanted to stay - a 13th C castle

Our stay at the Palazzo Paleologi could not have been nicer! Yes, there is a language problem but the manager, Ottilio's son Davide, speaks English. This is the kind of village that Americans can only imagine in their fantasies! This is easily stepping back 700 years to a time when the streets were narrow and crooked and villages were build on mini-mountain tops for defense from the wandering hoards! The innkeepers, Otillio and his wife, could not have been nicer. The minute I asked for something, it was being placed in my hand. Past visitors had said that it is difficult to find - YES! it is but well worth it! Pay for the B&B, the breakfast's are also wonderful. The restaurant in the hotel is usually only open beginning on Wednesday or Thursday, or depending on how many guests are staying, and through Saturday evening. This may be called a resort and for this village, it will be one day. For now, it I a hotel with a view and stands alone on the hilltop of the village of Lu (from the Latin: Lukus) Monferrato; where the panorama is a once-in-a-lifetime view of 5 or 6 not-so-distant villages. On a clear day, \"You can see forever,\" or at least the snow-covered Alps. And, yes, a car is a necessary requirement, so drive carefully.

Great location, even though it's quite difficult to find. The main road to it is closed and the diversion signs not the greatest. It took us probably an hour to find it once within 3 miles!

Beautiful view, very quiet and certainly a little different from most hotels.

Great views from the restaurant, and a lovely room to dine in.

Owners speak very little Engligh, but delightful.

If you are into sympathetically renovated medieval monasteries - with all mod cons, including free wifi - then this is a must! The owners speak not a word of English, but are non the less very welcoming - and have a sense of humor ! Well done them - can't wait to our next visit.

Nice place but needs some extra love

We had one night to break up the drive from Nice to Venice. It was pleasant enough with sparsely decorated clean rooms. The lady on reception was welcoming and gave hubby a little tour of the property that was once owned by the Count who owned a massive amount of land in the area. The only criticism was that nothing seemed to be going on in the town and the building and grounds needed a lot of love to bring out it's historical beauty. Dinner in the on-site restaurant was special, watching the sunset from the balcony.

Palazzo Paleologi Resort, Lu, Italy.

A beautifully restored and rebuilt medieaval monastery. We stayed twice, each time in a different room, each resplendant with large timber beams, stone arches, terracotta tile floors, a modern cooking area and bathroom with shower. A resturant is open for those who prefer to dine out. The patrons are very pleasant although they do not speak a word of English - but we had enough Italien to get by and it was appreciated.
The place is a resort, offering a range of alternative therapies - or just a room for the night.

It is very difficult to find - being as it is tucked away off a small village square - with a hotel sign little bigger than a number plate, but it is well worth the effort as you will be amazed when the gates open and you step into the courtyard. Stunning!

definitely worth a little detour

Palazzo Paleologi Resort is a beautiful building. It was a monastery at one time. The bathroom fittings are good, beds comfortable, and the AC works. The restaurant is excellent - amazing sunset views. The parking lot is a bit of a mess, but that is outside the gate (so in a sense doesn't count).
We were very confortable. There are no busy roads nearby so we slept peacefully. Lu is not massive, but there are good restaurants available (for a change from the hotel restaurant). Three beautiful old churches within walking distance. An old tower with a nice view of the surrounding area too. Doesn't get much better value than this.

a rustic gem

lu and the surrounding area is pretty quiet, but we were pleasantly surprised by this charming hotel. the adjacent restaurant was delicious and convenient (especially after a few bottles of wine) and offers a stunning view of the countryside. the room/apartment was very spacious and included an additional sofa bed and twin cot. the kitchen and bathroom fixtures are new, but the exposed brick and details was a perfect blend of old world sensibilities and modern comfort. AC and wireless internet worked without issue. staff was attentive and always on hand to whip up a cappuccino or espresso, though we knew almost no italian so communication was an issue at times (our fault entirely). signs posted in the town will lead you to the hotel, but we were glad to have a GPS when navigating lu's maze of narrow streets. overall, our stay at palazzo paleologi was quite a treat.

Je conseille le restaurant attenant qui est d'un très haut niveau.
N'ayant pas demandé, nous avons pris le petit déjeuner standard, on peut demander l'international.
Je recommande cet hôtel pour les amateurs de sites anciens et aimant le bon vin.

Hotel für Landschaftsverliebte mit ruhe Bedürfnis

Altes Castello von außen sind wir erst erschrocken, die Zimmer sind aber ordentlich ohne großen Luxus. Die Standardzimmer sind sehr rustikal, wir hatten die besserer Kategorie mit renoviertem Bad und extra schlaf und Wohnraum. Das war dann für 3-4 Nächte ok. Restaurant nur ab Donnerstag bis Sonntag offen gutes Preis - Leistungsverhältnis. In der Umgegend gibt es viele kleine Restaurants, die von außen nicht wirklich einladen, aber innen dann sehr freundlich und angenehm ausgestattet sind, mit einer guten und ehrlichen Küche. Die Anfahrt ist etwas abenteuerlich und es sind gute Stoßdämpfer gefragt.

Foi uma excelente experiência na cidade de LU. Pequena cidade, onde parece que estamos hospedados 1500 anos atrás. Eu adorei a experiência e o atendimento do STAFF. Me senti de fato em um castelo. Tudo é muito bom. Vale a pena.
Recomendo. Tem muitas escadas, mas lembre castelo não tinha elevador.

Wat een fijne plek en wat een bijzonder hotel!

Zeer bijzonder hotel waar je echt terug gaat in de tijd! De foto van de entree is precies zoals in het echt, heel idyllisch allemaal! Lu is een bijzonder dorpje, heel erg rustig maar wel echt prachtig gelegen met mooie oude gebouwen, ademt veel sfeer uit. De kamer was prima, zeer ruim, de badkamer (en douche) waren misschien wat klein in verhouding, maar voldeden prima. Het was allemaal wat sober (en bv een hele kleine tv, maar goed, uit het raam kijken daar is ook mooier en interessanter :-), maar juist door de antieke meubels zeer sfeervol. Het ontbijt was prima en in een hele mooie historische ruimte. Er schijnt ook een heel goed restaurant bij te zijn, maar daar hebben we niet gegeten. Erg vriendelijk personeel, helemaal top dus!
