If you are looking for quiet and not in the City of Salerno, this is a good choice. To visit the city, you have to walk down many flights of steps. On the way back, there is an escalator for some of the path to the top

We stayed one night at this property on our way to Ischia. The hotel has a beautiful pool which was exactly what we needed after driving 3 hrs from Puglia. It has views of the harbor and the room was spacious with a safe and big bathroom. There’s on site parking for a small fee and a path that goes down into town so you don’t need a taxi. The hotel was short staffed, we were hard pressed to find someone at the front desk when we needed it. And our toilet didn’t fully function. The exterior of the hotel is outlined with blue lights which glow through and under the drapes, so pack an eye mask. Overall this was an average hotel along our Italy journey.

This was the least hospitable hotel we encountered in a two week trip to Italy where every where else could not have been nicer. They don't help you with your bags when arriving, and nothing is included. They even charged us extra for the milk to go in our coffee. Would not reccommmend!

Great location, however our last night the hotel held a party until 2 am for an 18th birthday. Was super loud until around 1:30 am right outside of guests’ rooms. The hotel could either block off room availability if holding an event or at least let paying guests know that they won’t sleep that night.Very loud.

Lovely hotel with stunning views over Salerno. Not for the faint hearted if you do t like steps, there approx 450 down the main road, half of tjis coming back is by way of an escalator, if it’s working. Breakfast was lovely around the pool, not a huge selection but enough to start the day off. Staff were really nice and helpful. Pool was lovely although we didn’t use it, but a lazy day could be had there, not sure what you would do for lunch though. About a 40 min walk to the harbour where you can get the ferry over to the Amalfi Coast. If you dont mind a lot of walking then I would def recommend this hotel.

There was confusion from the second we got there about our reservation. I found the family member checking us in the be very unfriendly. We felt like an imposition there. It felt rundown. Nothing in the baths were replenished the second morning. My toilet ran constantly. The shower flooded. A guest checked in at midnight next to me and opened the metal awning covering the doors to the balcony waking me up. Traffic started at 6 am. I was so disappointed we cut our stay short.

This Hotel was probably amazing in its day, but that day is long gone. It is in total disrepair and in need of major updating. The staff was friendly. The location is not great, the view is but getting to and from city center is rough. Half of the escalator was not working, straight up.

Enjoyable hotel for our short stay in Salerno

This is a lovely hotel high up on the Salerno coast so you get great views of the sea and coastline from your room. You can exit the hotel and walk down into Salerno -- and to come back, there is an escalator they built that brings you 3/4 back up the hill -- amazing. Our room was large and clean, with a very large bathroom and shower. Breakfast was whatever you tell them you'd like. Parking was 10 Euro per night. Not easy to reach unless you have a car or take a taxi from train station.

Tristano who runs a hotel is a Superman.
He made our stay worry free and very comfortable. When our car got a flat tire he had resolved our problem within 10 minutes.

We enjoyed the view from the room. We were happy enough staying there but the price was in our opinion to high for what the quality was. This for us is what we would consider an average room, should have been an average price. Also the bed was very firm which we found a bit uncomfortable. Staff were nice and helpful. Grounds well taken care of. Parking is onsite pay per use.

Coming from a hospitality standpoint they really lack professionalism, very rude staff , non apologetic even if they are wrong .The beds are hard as a rock , shuttle service not available as advertised on the website . We had a nice stay at Villa Poseidon but there were odd happenings during stay. I’d like to mention that the hotel did not respond to any of my emails or messages after our cancellation date. Which meant when we arrived at the train station the 72hr preplanned shuttle from station did not happen. We were told we could take a taxi because the shuttle only operated for 2hrs morning and in the evening. Even though I had sent several emails stating arrival time they were never acknowledged. Upon arrival we were an offered a free glass of wine & checked into our room. The desk clerk mentioned that they were having a function at the hotel that night. They said we were welcome to attend too. We had travelled all day with little to eat so we agreed and we were told the function would start at 8:30pm. (Italians get started late!)
That said, apparently the group was delayed and we were asked to come back later.
We hadn’t eaten all day and were tired from train travel so rather than agreeing to come back at party time we opted to have pizza sent to the room. We noticed we had no water in our room so asked why. The clerk told us there was a water main problem out on the street. We had luckily showered so we went to our room for the night. At 10pm the party started and we were blasted with loud music and lighting. Needless to say we hardly slept.
No more parties for rest of our stay and it was quiet. We were charged for everything upon checkout even wine & breakfast. Pool closed!

A good property for visiting Salerno. It takes about 15 mins to walk to central Salerno but this means it’s a quiet location. Rooms are good, views are lovely and the facility is well maintained. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Airport transfer (as advertised on Expedia) is only for local Salerno airport not Naples transfer

The staff was excellent and so kind. The view from our hotel room was wonderful and spacious for an Italian hotel. The downsides were it was about a 10 min (250 steps) down to the downtown area. The A/C also leaked water everywhere (collected 5 mugs worth in about 15 min). Neither were a huge issue to us, but I can see it being a problem for others.

The staff was unengaging when we arrived.
The whole hotel was cold and you can see they don’t keep common areas warm.
Twice there was not hot water, the first time once they turn the boiler on the water came green.
The mattresses are some of the worst I had. Heat system was right on your face and loud.
It did had a nice view from several big windows and the outside grounds were beautiful. The terace room where they serve breakfast, was beautiful but cold.
Our reservation had FUL BREAKFAST included and we got pastries and coffee then at the time of checking out they tried to charge us.

Wonderful Villa on the hillside. Great ocean views! Wonderful staff, especially Mirella who was very helpful! Large clean rooms. Very generous in helping us with their shuttle bus in the mornings. Parking available at villa. Located walking distance to ferry and old town. There are 3 escalators from the town below up the hill but you do need to climb up one final long flight of stairs to villa. Pool and breakfast nice also.

It is an impressive property but the drive was terrifying and turning into the property quite nerve wracking. Originally the parking was way below the entrance, but when they realized I was handicapped, they really provided assistance. Very nice & friendly, great breakfast. Has glass doors & counters which could be an accident waiting to happen. Would recommend putting decals on the glass. Probably a better property for someone young & more athletic.

בחרנו במלון גם בגלל שכתוב שיש בו מזגן, אך כשהגענו נאמר לנו שלא ניתן להדליק מזגן כי באוקטובר כבר נעים... היה לנו מאד חם בלילה.
המזרן ישן מאד ויש בו שקע באמצע, מה שגרם לכאבי גב נוראיים והלינה היתה ממש בלתי נסבלת.
אחת המגבות היתה מלוכלכת.
כשפנינו לצוות המלון וביקשנו להפעיל את המזגן ולעשות משהו בנוגע למזרן, נאמר לנו שאין מה לעשות. למחרת נאמר לנו שהמזרן נבדק והוא תקין... רצינו לעזוב ולקבל החזר אך גם זה לא היה אפשרי.
לא ממליצים על מלון זה בכלל!
מניחים שתגובת המלון תהיה שהם מתנצלים שלא היה לנו נח, אך זה כבר לא עוזר לנו בשלב זה.

fantastic stay in great location

We come from America, where free breakfasts are sickening (in my opinion). This breakfast, however, was great. The cappuccinos were among the best during our stay in Italy, the yogurt and fresh fruit were delightful, the array of pastries was great, and the fresh squeezed orange juice speaks for itself. Don’t overlook the fridge.

As for the hotel, we loved the terrace overlooking the harbor. The room was a good size, bed was okay and there was useful furniture. The bathroom was a good size with a very nice shower. Parking was also a huge plus!

The staff was super helpful and checking in was easy. The man at checkin gave us a map of the part of Salerno near us that was a nice orientation. The hotel sits about 2-3 flights above a public escalator that spans another couple flights down to town (it only runs up to, not down from, the hotel). While I remember reading reviews about stairs when looking for a place in Italy, if stairs scare you, I recommend a different vacation local. I found the stairs awesome, and extremely convenient to the wonderful restaurants of Salerno (try Visilica)!

Very nice view from the room overlooking the bay of Salerno. Very nice breakfast set out on the terrace, however, guests are to bake their own omelet. Description of the hotel in Hotel.com is misleading. Hotel is located high up along a very busy road without pedestrian access to the town other than through a back yard exit that connects the hotel to the nearest main street through in total some 300 steps. Escalators partly serve the way up but not down. Steps near the hotel back exit are steep and covered with tree debris and surrounding pieces of garbage. Hotel staff professional but not very outgoing. Hotel charges Euro 10 for parking on an otherwise empty parking area.

The View from the hotel was superb, the room clean enough, but nothing like we expected from the imformation. breakfast dissapointing, staff hardly saw any, no restaurant open, no bar open, swimming pool lovely but due to wind not there fault unable to use due to debris in pool, dosn't say you have to pay 10 euros a day for parking only told when we arrived, we found it very soulless and staff that were around occasionally very unfriendly,
for what should be a lovely Hotel, I hate to knock any establishment but do your homework before booking this hotel,and you definately need a car to get around although you can easily walk into Salerno. This is just my opinion the location and Hotel may be fine for others .

Great relaxing and well appointed hotel

Wonderful hotel that is well appointed, room was spacious and with good quality linen and fittings. Pool was a great refresher after tourist day trips and just what we needed when we had some quiet days in between travel. Staff were very friendly and obliging. Limited room service and lack of restaurant facilities (other than for breakfast) was a disappointment and meant we needed to go into town most nights, as there was no local option available. The limited operational times for the public escalators that we relied on as we had no car and were primarily travelling by train, also meant we had to really keep a check on what time we were out as after 2155 hours, the escalator closed and we had to then take all the steps (not counted, but a couple of hundred at least). One time we missed it by 2 minutes and that was a very hard slog up all those stairs! But breakfast was a treat, the rooms with a sea view very good value and a very relaxing place to stay for 6 nights.

Despite the wonderful staff on reception who tried ever so hard to help us with everything we were left wondering if the owner should just leave the running of the hotel to others. The owner did everything possible to make us feel like we were imposing and over rode all the lovely things that the reception staff would try and do for us to make our stay comfortable. This little place has huge potential but is being held back by poor policies and a lack of willingness to help by the owner.

They need a roll away bed for emergencies.

They should let people bring their own food back to the terrace as there is no restaurant and if you don't want to venture down the hundreds of steps after dark or pay a ransom for a cab you have no way of enjoying an evening meal (unless you want to sit on your bed in your room and eat pizza)!

SIngle bed linen was a joke, about 60cm wide top sheet was provided and we had to find our own linen.

If you love Fawlty Towers then stay here, the poor staff try to help you but the owner needs to go to hotel management school!

Poolside views of Salerno and a welcoming staff

After a long day of travel, the hotel's pool and accommodating staff where perfect. The pool area offers stunning views of Salerno and the staff (Fabio and Rachela) are very responsive (e.g., I was given quick responses to pre-trip e-mails asking what beaches to visit and during the stay, they happily made coffee and poolside cocktails on request). My partner and I like to walk, so going up the steps to/from Salerno center wasn't a big deal, even in August heat, but I could see if you're not a walker, this may not be for you. The rooms are old-school European, but you are on top of a mountain in Salerno with a pool so I have no complaints.

The hotel in The Shining has nothing on this. Seeing Jack Nicholson walking down the hallway with an axe over his shoulder wouldn't be a surprise. I thought we were the only guests until we heard chatter and laughter and four old people walked into the foyer, but I think now they may have been ghosts...

People must have exceptionally low standards if they give this hotel 5 stars. We had to come to Salerno for an unexpected night stopover. I booked through Wotif last minute, and chose it because it says it's 80m from the ferry drop off. It's actually a 3.6km drive and 1.8km walk, all straight up. There are virtually no taxis in Salerno so luckily a lovely couple saw us wandering aimlessly and guessed we needed a taxi. They knew we'd be waiting for ever so let us share theirs. Phew.

The room we had was old and airless. Nice bathroom. The cleaners left the long plugs upside down in the sink and bidet to airdry. Nice touch..... eww. The towels are worn and ripped. Wifi doesn't work. Bit of a lie (actually a lot) about how close the hotel is from the harbour... Not sure what harbour they're referring to.

The hotel would have been stunning in its day. The pool area is old and tired but the view is amazing.

The hotel has rooms with tables set up, all in darkness. It's like it's waiting for the glamorous guests of yesteryear to come back.

I feel sorry for the old girl.

This was an excellent place to stay. Unfortunately we only stayed one night and wished we had stayed longer. Beautiful views from the hotel over looking the city. A very modern hotel, clean and very comfortable. The staff was very professional and helpful. Very good restaurants near the hotel. Warning though, if you walk, it's a couple hundred steps down the hill to get to the city level. I recommend a taxi back.

The villa Poseidon is a lovely boutique hotel in Salerno. We stayed here for a long weekend and it was delightful. The staff are very accommodating to any needs you might have. The breakfasts were better than just a continental fare. Only drawback is having to walk up 300 steps if you come back after the escalator has stopped running at 9 pm at night!

A Stay to Remember

Hotel was just opening for the season. No hot water, none of the amenities were available, hotel is on a very busy road, breakfast was very, very limited, coffee was cold hot water for tea was Luke warm. I book 2 rooms for 4 adults. They gave us 1 room for the advertised price and the charged us the double that to have 2 more guests in the same room. After a long discussion with the staff we managed to get 2 rooms as we had paid the same price for one room. They only had ocean facing and changed us an extra 50 euro to rent them Long and short of it. the hotel looks charming however looks are deceiving At the end of our stay we could only laugh about the insanity of the whole experience

Great place, great Staff, some hassles.

The only real negatives were uncertainty as to when the escalator would be fully operational, and the lack of a restaurant on premises. The escalator is important because returning from the city center otherwise entails 200 to 250 steps up the staircase. There is a schedule, but sometimes one or more of the segments breaks down. But the VP was very nice, and the Staff was kind, courteous and helpful.

Lovely view from the pool. Immaculately clean. Huge room and excessively large bathroom. Our room did not overlook the harbour sadly and no balcony or terrace which we were not aware of when booking. Bunk beds in addition to double bed in our deluxe double room!?! Although i could not specifically complain there was a strange feel about the hotel. The staff were nice but just functional. I used a bath towel which ripped when i was drying myself as it was threadbare. Not a boutique hotel as described just felt a bit stuffy attitude wise and trying to be something it was not. It would be great for overnight stays but not longer. Lovely breakfast. 290 steps to town kept us fit!!

Gorgeous, Relaxing Salerno Hotel

This Hotel was perfect for our last two days of our Italian vacation. Great, responsive English-speaking staff. Very good breakfast with plenty of Café Americana. The pool was clean and was a perfect antidote to the 90-degree days. Great view of Salerno. Gorgeous setting. Our room (not all) had the deepest and longest bathtub I've ever soaked in. The walk to the restaurants and sites of Salerno is not for the infirm.

Looked excellent online BUT in our room the aircon failed to cool the room, the fridge was inside a wardrobe (meaning that it could not function properly and there was no space for hanging long items of clothing), the bracket to hold the shower head was broken off. Worst though was the pool (one of the reasons we chose this hotel) was an inch deep in green slime. Its equipment seems to have been broken for a long time.

Hotel was lovely, our room looked exactly like the pictures online and had a great sea view! The staff were so helpful and friendly and gave great tips and directions and called people for us when there was a language barrier. The wifi in the room wasn't great but worked downstairs but who cares about wifi when you are on holiday on the Amalfi coast!! Overall we had a wonderful few days here and would stay here again.

Arrived at hotel with reservation for New Year's Eve, but sign posted at gate stating hotel closed for the season until April 2016. Rang the intercom, and a woman briefly stated \"hotel is closed\" and then hung up on me. She did not answer when I rang the intercom on the gate again. Absolutely no help and infuriating after being charged several hundred dollars.

I called customer service line at hotels.com to request a refund. I was transferred three different times to various service representatives (all 3 very nice and professional) but I spent over 30 minutes on hold - I was told that it would be at least 72 hours before somebody could approve the refund. Still waiting on the refund.

I am incredibly unhappy with the very rude customer service at the hotel and moderately dissatisfied that hotels.com listed a closed hotel as available for reservation.

Very long walk with stairs all down hill to get to center of town which meant on way back all up hill. We left a day early cause it was end of season, poo was drained and there wasn't much to do

Lovely resort, but bring your own wheels

Great place--if you have a car or other means of local transport. The hotel is a splendid resort high on a hill overlooking the harbor. It's also outside the center, requiring not inexpensive taxi rides to get there and back unless you have your own means of transport. If you go, don't hesitate to stay there.

Stopped for an overnight on our way to Positano. Everything was fine , staff were nice and really the only thing I can say stood out was horrible horrible processed cheese at breakfast!!! This blew my mind.

First Night in Italy

arrived at 5pm after the drive from Naples. really looking forward to our first night, relaxing and having some great red wine on the terrace. NOT!! Arrived at the Hotel only to be told that the room \"a Superior Double, with Terrace\" as we booked was not really as it says!
Sorry, we were told and we had to settle for a measly standard double....to say the least.
The Manager tried to make up for it by offering a bottle of wine and a discount. Unfortunately, they did not have any red wine!! Really, we are in Italy. the Front desk had to be sent out to find a bottle at the local shop.
as for the \"discount\" due to room error, never happened as of yet!

Looks can be deceiving

The pictures of the hotel make this hotel seem so elegant. The pictures of the pool area had me conjuring up images of a relaxing day spent lounging with a cocktail. However, the pool looked as though it hadn't been cleaned there was green slime on the sides of the pool. There was some kind of mechanical pool cleaner in the pool but it didn't look like it was working. Our room was clean although we had to ask the maid for towels, soap etc. as there wasn't any in the bathroom when we arrived. The breakfast did the job but didn't have a vast array of choice. The coffee did come from a vending machine if you wanted a espresso or cappuccino. The coffee in the carafes was cold. We were disappointed with the location, it sounded convenient being only 1.2 km from the city center but the way the roads work it's the long way around when you take a cab. On a good note, the staff were very helpful.

This hotel is a good choice if you want to stay somewhere small and individual, and that has a good view. We had a very large room. It was fairly plainly furnished and the blanket on the bed was looking tired (e.g.a few holes) but it was comfortable and clean. Our room was quiet even though the villa is next to a main room, I guess because our room did not face it. The public areas of the villa are somewhat exuberatantly decorated, which is entertaining. Breakfast was fine - a selection of fruit, cheese, cold meats and bread/cakes, but coffee came out of a machine. The pool was fine but we saw no sign of the sauna or a use-able gym. Be warned that it is a steep walk down into the town: the initial section of this walk is briefly on a busy road but most is in the quaint and quiet streets of the old town (about 20 mins to the closest part of the old town). We did not mind but since there are no restaurants or cafes nearby so you will need to make this walk (or take a taxi) everytime you want to eat out or go sightseeing, which could be onerous especially if it is hot.

OK place to stay.

Helpful, friendly staff. Water leaked behind the tub (under the wall!) and we discovered one of our suitcases in a puddle. A little too far from the town center. Required a cab to and from. That being said, the hotel was comfortable and a reasonable place to spend a night.

I don't know if it was because I just came from rome and Napoli but I felt like I went into a depression. I think this hotel was pretty good at one time maybe in the early 90's but finding a cocktail was nearly impossible. the pool was ice cold. yu literally could not get in it without getting hypothermia. in the pool was a pool cleaner with the electric cord frayed and laying in the pool water. you can hear the people in the next room like they were sitting on your bed. your morning coffee was dispensed out of a vending machine. I don't know...... I usually try to find the positive in most of my rooms as I travel the world but this one is hard to recommend. on the other hand, I don't think there are many options in salerno. for what its worth.. it wasn't the best but wasn't the worst room I have ever seen

Very nice B&B

This place was very nice and quaint. It has an awesome view of Salerno and the coast. We had a little trouble finding it, but it was really right where it said on the map, we just missed it. We checked in after 6, and the guy working didn't speak any English and their restaurant was closed. It was fine for checking in, but we also needed to get dinner, and since it's kind of isolated, we had to figure out how to get him to order food for us, which was more of a challenge. It's not a complaint, just something to keep in mind. You also can't really walk anywhere from there because it's on a highway that seems dangerous to walk along. The room was very nice and spacious, and it even had a jacuzzi.

Only one night but quite comfortable. Left before breakfast was served so cannot comment. Bit high up off the beaten path however staff arranged transportation to dinner at a restaurant they recommended. (Choose another) but they were also very helpful with trip to Pompei. Good choice in Salerno.

Great accommodations, great view

Hotel Poseidon is perched atop a hill with a beautiful view of Salerno and the water. The hotel is charming and elegant with a wonderful dining area and nice decor. We stayed in a nice king suite in the corner with our balcony offering an amazing view. The room was very clean and comfortable with all of the amenities and a very comfortable bed. Salerno center is a solid 35 minute walk down (or up on your way back!) a long flight of steps and a steep winding hill. The train station and marina where you make connections to Paestum, Pompeii, Amalfi, Naples, etc is a 45 minute walk. Fortunately, the boardwalk along the water provides a very scenic and comfortable stroll, weather permitting. There are several nice restaurants along the way with friendly staff able to accommodate English speakers. That being said, the walk back up to the hotel is not to be taken lightly. If you are not in good shape and do not want to take a cab, this may not be the place for you. If you don't mind walking and enjoy drinking, have an extra drink before you leave as the walk is a bit sobering! The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was that the staff was not very approachable and seemed annoyed that we were there (we may have been the only couple staying at the time). I made requests in decent Italian when English was not understood and they were not very responsive or willing to help. Also, we left a pair of glasses at the hotel and they still have not returned our email inquiries.

Beautiful view from the hotels and rooms

It was wonderful and lovely atmosphere, very romantic.only thing is that we have a small issue with credit card. We booked thru hotels.com and charged on our American Express. When we reached there they complained they did not get payment as our card was rejected, which was not correct. It was their bank that did not accept AMEX and only accept visa. It works our fine in the end.

It is not near anything, but the view of the bay is good. Other reviewers knocked seeing the cargo cranes, but I wouldn't consider the view an eyesore. The place is very nice and has some pizzazz, but my shower stall door did not fully close, so water needed to be soaked up. Staff was good, as was secure parking. Would have been good to have more time there, but needed to catch the morning ferry to Capri.

Quiet, clean villa

My wife and I loved this place. Quiet and out of the way. You have to walk down a number of steps and a down hill road to get to town, but it's worth it to stay at Villa Poseidon. Gorgeous view from our balcony and accomodating staff. Nice breakfast in the morning too. Salerno itself is also a nice, cool little town to explore. Great restaurants and feiendly people.

Overall a lovely hotel. Beautiful building. The breakfast in the morning was lovely, outdoors (inside a tent still though) with an amazing view of the sea. Very polite staff.
The location is not very city center however, and when walking there (which is possible) there are not enough signs to clearly indicate where this location is. I suggest taking a taxi from the train station.

Off location, amazing restaurant

We only spent one night at this hotel, but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is up the hill and I am uncertain how easy it would be to get into Salerno city center. Parking is also very limited. The room was quite large and featured a tub with spa jets. Almost all the rooms have an excellent view overlooking the harbor and Mediterranean. We did not have that view but it did not matter. The highlight though has to be the restaurant. The chef is amazing, doing things like deconstructed Puttanesca sauce that is out of this world. Staff was very friendly and the restaurant staff were highly professional. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Cute Hotel Villa with great view. Spacious room and really nice pool. Aircondition, bar, pool, shuttle bus and really helpful staff. The view is over the harbor and fantastic. Quiet hotel, not a lot of rooms, very enjoyable. Can be a little tricky to get to town, a lot of stairs and escalators . Overall we are really enjoyed are stay!

Dejligt ophold med skøn udsigt.

Pænt og rent hotel med dejlig udsigt. Ikke så mange værelser så man oplever et stille og rolig miljø. Personalet er hjælpsomme og venlige. Man kan gå ned til den gamle bydel. Hjemad kan man benytte rulletrapper det meste af vejen. Men man skal stadig bruge en del trapper. Hotellet har en gratis shuttel service på faste tidspunkter. Fungere fint.
