Nice family holiday in absolutely overcrowded Spa

We recently had a long-awaited family holiday, staying for two nights. Overall, the experience was okay. We enjoyed dinners at the hotel’s two restaurants and spent time at the spa. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the location is excellent. The spa itself is one of the best in Finland, with impressive facilities and a great atmosphere.

However, it seemed the hotel was at full capacity, and the staff was unprepared for it. The queue at reception stretched outside, and I had to wait 30 minutes to check in. Also, filling in paper check-in cards seems like last century! :) Additionally, Hotels.com made a mistake with our reservation by forgetting to include spa access. Thankfully, the hotel staff handled the issue quickly and professionally - big thanks for that!

The spa was overcrowded, making it impossible to move in the water. Breakfast on Saturday morning was also chaotic, with not enough tables and many left uncleared. We had to find and clean a table ourselves.

The hotel overall feels old and in need of renovation, particularly the bathrooms. On top of that, our room was not cleaned properly, as we found someone else’s food and drinks in the minibar.

Our room was beautiful, looked just like the photos. Lots of things to do. We came to visit a family member who moved here. The only downside was that no one is very fond of Americans, so demeanor and service changed quite a bit once we started talking and the knew we were from the US, it was made pretty obvious. Other than that the hotel and area are very nice places.

Getaway with 2 kids. Standard family room was spacious enough for me and my 2 children. Kids loved the spa, I maybe missed some natural light from there. Area is nice, close to lake which is extremely nice during summer but winter time not that much to do outside. Spa opened only 3 PM which was a bit dull to wait in the morning. Breakfast was a typical scandinavian, a bit unhealthy for my taste as I prefer berries over jams and fruits over juices but otherwise ok. Restaurants were a bit crowded right after the spa was closed and again some boring waiting time for the kids

Christmas holiday in Holiday Club Saimaa

We visited Holiday Club Saimaa during Christmas days in 2019 as a family of three people. The hotel is really nice, clean, located very close to Saimaa Lake. The complex also includes various cottages.
There are no buses going to this hotel, so you will need to come by car or to take a taxi from Imatra (which will cost 20-25€ one way).
Buffet breakfasts were tasty and varied. There are also several restaurants and a supermarket (which was closed during Christmas days). Hotel room was clean and had all essential items (kettle, mini fridge, hair dryer). On the 4th floor there is a room with a microwave and iron.
Spa area is really nice for a hotel, though smaller than usual water parks. Sauna World includes 4 saunas and a pool (for additional 7€ price). What we really enjoyed, was a log-sauna and a hot tub on the roof terrace!
It was nice to walk along the lake and enjoy the nature! It's a really good place to stay for several nights with a family or for couples!

The view of lake Saimaa in the morning was gorgeuous, and the breakfast was great. Extra points for the bacon being perfectly crispy, a rare find in Europe. However, the room could have been tidier. Also, having travelled a fair amount, I have never come a cross a hotel that makes you pay for slippers as a hotel guest. Granted, we typically stay in relatively nice places, we were also surprised there was no conditioner available in the room. We asked for some at the reception, and were charged 2 euros for a single dose bottle. As a paying customer, I did not appreciate the sales call made the day before our arrival, to sell their timeshare plans. On that note, I could see our pre-school aged kids enjoying some of the aspects of the location, hence I would have hoped we could have liked it more.

Stayed in the suite just down from reception, room was amazing with views to the lake, which made it extra special

Thing the let it down was the room turndown, gave us cut glass for drinking and paper cup for hot drinks. These weren’t replaced each day, turned bed down but didn’t fully make the bed and would’ve had to walk around a dress pillow which we purposely left on the floor

Coffee is disgusting at breakfast

But otherwise this is a seriously nice place.

Great family concept but misleading.

When booking I did not realise it was Family oriented Hotel in the true sense of the word !! I’m sure families with young children would have a wonderful time here it is very well set up. For a traveller from overseas though who does not understand Finnish concepts of Family Holiday clubs the information is misleading as this type of Hotel was not what we had anticipated.
However for a one night stay it was just fine. The family room we stayed in was tired looking but very clean and had a good sized bathroom. It has a very good Pizzeria, the beds were very comfortable and the staff friendly and we enjoyed a very beautiful sunset from the lakes edge.

Standard room (one was surprising - very simple disposable slippers in the room (!) were the subject for extra-costs of 3,5 Euro - I NEVER faced it anywhere and it was really cold in the room without ability to change the temperature inside), nice World of Sauna zone (also additional costs), simple breakfast and restricted dinner facilities: only pizza in one restaurant and hamburgers etc in the other. Without many expectations you find this hotel being quite average.

Long wait at the reception for everything! The staff was always either on the phone right in front of a guest, or doing something else in the shop, or in the back room. In other words, nobody was readily available to serve a guest! Also had trouble returning a swim suit that I purchased in the shop on Level 0. After trying it on in the room I went downstairs to return it and was told that it was impossible because I had paid for it with a credit card. Such nonsense! The pool was overcrowded too, so we ended up going there once with my kids and never returned again. Although there are two elevators in the main building people get stuffed in one like sardines, instead of waiting for another elevator. On the bright side: their buffet breakfast and dinner were plentiful and good, hotel grounds are beautiful and well kept! there is enough parking and the rooms were clean.

Hotel for family holidays

Very big hotel with spa, aquapark, bowling and etc. Really busy, too busy for rest and relaxation. Probably, good for families with children but not for adults - I was with my adult daughter - it was...difficult... for both of us.
I guess, time is not very good as it is the time of school holidays but I never want to repeat this experience.

Respassa oli töissä 2 työntekijää. He hoitivat samalla myös R-kioskia ja jonottaminen sisäänkirjautumiseen vei 45 minuuttia. Kylpylään otettiin kaikki sisään ja uiminen shokkiklooratussa vedessä oli vaarallista, sillä uimatasanteelta liukui lapsia niskaan.

Ensimäinen ja viimeinen kerta menen. Saimme väärä ohjetta alussa että missä meidän huone on. Kesti yli tunti löysimme huoneta. Numerot ei pidä painamassa. Huone oli ihan eri mitä kuvassa näytti. Netissä lukee pinnansänky on ilmainen ja valitsin sen kun varasin mutta paikkaan päällä ne otti 20€ pinnasängystä. Huone maksoi 327€ ei kuulunut spa alueelle piti maksaa 60€ vielä. Kallis paikka. Ja ihmiset maailman rasistia täällä löytyy. Täynnä vanhuksia. Altaat vain ensimmäinen päivä oli käytössä toinen päivä se oli kiinni. Huonoin kokemus ikinä. En suosittele

Huoneessa selvästi nähtävää pölyä ja oudosti tuntui vieno vanhan tupakan haju, mistä lie lähtöisin. Muuten huone Castle-puolella oli mukava ja tilava.
Kylpylä vähän pettymys, miksi niin pimeä ja hierovia suihkuja ym puuttui. Saunamaailman pitäisi kyllä kuulua samaan hintaan! Parkkipaikka hieman hankalassa paikassa. Saimaa on kyllä kaunis🙏

Hotelli oli ihan ok, huone muutoin siisti, mutta pölyinen, arvotavaroiden säilytyskaappi rikki.
Henkilökunta erittäin miellyttävää, ystävällistä. Ruoka hyvä, aamupala erittäin runsas.
Vuorokauden yöpymiseen kului 3 tunnin esittely holiday clubin osakkuudesta, vähän liikaa.
Allasosasto tunkkainen ja vanhahkon oloinen, ihan kuin kloorilla olisi yritetty peittää tunkkaisuus, pukuhuonetila epäsiisti, lattia liukas.

Sviittissä oli tosi kuuma, ilmastointi ei toiminut lainkaan. Huoltomiehet kävivät katsomassa, mutta eivät saanneet kuntoon joten öisin ei nukuttu kunnolla ja päivällä väsytti. Hinta taso on korkea, jossa ilmastointia ei ole ja 28 astetta lämpöä.

However …

For the price I paid I was expecting a more modern room. Alltough I booked a room for me alone which already included two beds, an additional third bed was set up from the couch which took up a big portion of the room.

The swimming area is not included and pricy for what it is, for sauna access you have to get the swim pass and then pay an additional fee

While I get the environmental aspect of not cleaning a room every day as per default, I was still confused why after 3 days no fresh towel was to be found. Maybe I have mistaken the information I was given.

The breakfast was of good quality and had a lot of options, while I didn’t try it myself, I have heard that the scrambled eggs were not the best.

To wrap it up: I don’t feel like the price of ~120€ per night really got me their worth here.
I won’t come back for this price.

Palvelu vastaanotossa oli hidasta eikä niin harjaantunutta ja koulutettua kuin voisi olla.
Huoneessa oli kylpytakit kahdelle aikuiselle ja kahdelle pikkulapselle, vaikka lapset olivatkin teinejä. Saivat uudet vastaanotosta. Poiskirjautuessamme kerrottiin, että huoneessa oli joku lappu, jossa luki veloituksesta. Kaikki kylpytakit veloitettiin.

Rouvan kanssa reissussa

Sisäänkirjautumisessa jonoa heti kolmen jälkeen, joka selittyy sillä että monelle majoittujalle kuten myös meille pitää selittää asioita ja eri palvelujen sijainteja ja toimintoja huolella.
Muuten kylpylä ok tosin täynnä lapsia.
Uusi avattu kuntosali naapurirakennuksessa jonne kulku vain ulkokautta.

Pölyä ja ääntä.

Castle rakennuksesta oli meillä superior king huone. Huone oli todella pölyinen. Muuten ihan ookoo.

Paljon ääniä yöllä. Joku kone rymisi koko yön. Vessa piti kovaa ääntä.

Mutta kyllä yhden yön oli ihan okei.
