There was a reported widespread power outage in the Oglesby region and reports of no power, or water as a result, and toilets. I tried over & over again for 6 hours to contact this Best Western to find out more, before our checkin time, and no one was answering my calls...just a message stating the party was not accepting calls. The family decided, in the meantime to cancel the whole trip due to the approach of more severe weather, and when I was finally able to get through to cancel our reservations, I was told by a non-English speaking Indian or Pakistani person that it was too late and that the charges had already been applied to my credit card and they couldn't refund any of it...that I should call Hotels.com, through whom I had made this booking. When I finally found a phone number for Hotels.com and was finally able after numerous tries and put on hold then dropped, to get someone to answer, all they did was to tell me that they would open an investigation case number, try to contact the Best Western and verify with the staff that I had talked to the Best Western and get back to me within 48 hours with an answer. Three days later I got an Email telling me that there was nothing that they could do and the charges for two days could not be refunded because I didn't call in time to cancel. I was charged over $230 through no fault of my own with NO recourse. Not only does this suck but it is the worst case of customer service that I have ever experienced or heard of!!!!

Room was clean, pillows and beds comfy, breakfast plentiful, coffee HOT ☕️ and tasty! It wasn't weak or too strong. Indoor pool open and in use, My only complaint, if it qualifies as a complaint, is the smell. It has a heavy, lingering scent of cooked food. The hotel would benefit from an air purifier. Other than that it was nice.

As the question of breakfast seems at top of many lists, I address that. Unfortunately, there was little offered. We had stayed at Best Westerns all the way back from Florida and unfortunatey Olgesby IL let us down. The choices were few and nothing like our previous three stays coming back North. The room was accessible and well appointed, spacious. The king bed was comfortable, sink separate from bath and plenty of quality towels, etc. It is located in a very quiet area with traffic noise from I39 non-existent.

Staff were friendly, but they also were doing double duty at times, and they weren't always readily available. We struggled with the noise on Saturday night due to babies crying, a big dog barking, and a very upset lady yelling profanities at a man. Sunday night was much quieter.

Better options

A very strong chemical smell came rushing when we opened the door. We inspected and while it appeared to be in ok condition for price, I always check out the bathroom and beds. When I pulled back the fitted sheet the mattress there was what appeared to be blood on edge of mattress so I continued to look and in the upper corner by the nightstand there was a large area which appeared to be vomit dried on mattress. When we pulled the sheets back, there were two long dark hair strands in the bed. My husband went down to the desk to tell them and asked for a new room and he did not apologize and just gave him a key for new room. This was a quick stop over on our travels and we were there less than 12 hrs. Never again.

For starters we booked a nonsmoking room and received a smoking room, so we walk in and are met with a very dingy smell. The room did not feel clean, there were multiple spots on the walls, and we felt the need to check for bugs thoroughly. After traveling we of course wanted to shower and there is low water pressure, and the hotel soap smells exactly like play-do. We try to stream a show and the hotel wifi can't keep up with that. The AC doesn't actually cool the room, and the constant fan changes nothing, it turned off and on constantly. The next morning we wake up to the power going out, which took a few hours to come back on. We reached out about the smoking room and they were fully booked so nothing could be done. Later though there was a cancelation so they called and offered to let us switch if we could do it in the next 20 minutes, which was nice, but we were there on vacation and weren't at the hotel at the time. Finally Expedia lists the check out time as 12, but it is actually 11. Just a small mess up but it would've cost us a bit of money if we hadn't noticed. I couldn't believe that this was actually a best western, and if I could've refunded and found a new place I would've the minute I stepped in the room.

Smoked

We’ve stayed in this hotel before and it was fine. The main problem this time is that I reserved a non-smoking room (are there still smoking rooms?) and I have young kids, and the room was filled with cigarette smoke stench. The odor was strong enough to give me a headache. Other than that, oglesby is a nice place to stay on a long road trip, and the hotel was otherwise clean and fine, just a bad room this time around.
