Wonderful stay in Yogyakarta

Visiting Yogyakarta for the first time, I decided to stay at the Royal Ambarrukmo. I am glad I picked this hotel as it was a very comfortable stay with many great amenities. I utilized their fitness area, which had many options for weight training with the machines they had, including dumbbells. The staff was terrific, and I would say one of the best parts of my stay was the breakfast. Never have I seen so many options in a breakfast buffet. I maybe tried a tenth of what they had to offer, and I didn’t have room to try anymore. Make sure you don’t miss the breakfast to get your day started.

The Royal Ambarrukmo was originally built in the 1960s by President Sukarno. Its lobby contains one of the most beautiful and largest mosaics I have ever seen. This is but one of the many details that make this elegant, well laid out, and conveniently located hotel stand out. Rooms are large and well laid out. There's a great pool and children's pool. The restaurant and dining options are among the best of any hotel in Yogya. In short, though reasonably priced, this for me is one of Yogya's best hotels -- with a great staff and management in addition.

The Royal Ambarrukmo is one of my favorite hotels in Yogyakarta and, in fact, all of Indonesia. The staff and the (if I am not mistaken) Belgium-born hotel manager are welcoming, efficient, and always making sure you and your family are having a good time. The breakfasts are among the best in Yogyakarta, and the restaurant in general has a superb mix of Indonesian and European food -- all at a reasonable price. My wife and I regard this hotel as a true gem, and a hotel to which we hope to return many times.

The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Next to the hotel is a large shopping mall where you can find plenty of food stalls and restaurants. The main area for improvement is its shower room design which has no door to stop water getting out to the toilet when showering. The buffet breakfast offers plenty of food choices.

Good hotel friendly and helpful staff. Good service. Shower screen needs to be repaired as water tends to leak out during shower flooding floor outside the shower area.

Noce hotel. We had some hiccups during checkin but we received great help from Wigati amd Vina from hotel concierge. At the end fantastic experience.
However, hotel would deserve a bit better maintenance.

Nice hotel. It helps that there is a mall nearby. Breakfast food is okay, but if you're not so used to Indonesian food, you might not like the breakfast. A bit noisy because there is a mosque, I think, nearby and you get wakened up by the early chantings.

Stop to see the Temples

We stayed here to go to the local temples. Hotel looks very grand. The issue we had was that there was quite a bit of mold in the bathroom. Which we self tested and did come off. It seems that the hotel needs a bit of attention. The staff were lovely though and the manager moved us to a different nicer room to compensate us and gave us a car for the day. Which was very nice of them. I think a nice hotel but needs to make sure cleanliness is well looked after.

A good hotel with some great features.

It's still a good hotel and is located next to a mall. The staff is excellent, but confusing at times with their English skills. For the most part, the hotel is in great shape, but there are lots of little things that might upset people. It's not a big for me, but the towels were thread worn, or some of the signs were too small to see or placed in odd viewpoints. It's hard to maintain a nice hotel over time, so I can't complain.

Great room, astounding breakfast buffet

The Royal Ambarrukmo is the epitome of a quality hotel, with clean, well appointed rooms, comfortable beds, a beautiful swimming pool, and an astounding breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet was possibly the highlight of my stay--you can get anything you want, from just about any world culture, all freshly prepared and delicious. I especially liked the freshly pressed melon juice, made to order omelets, and crisp pastries. The hotel is next to a shopping mall that sells just about anything you might need. It's only a 15-minute drive from the airport and 20 minutes from Malioboro Street (the heart of Yogyakarta).

They make you feel like a royal.

An enjoyable stay & all the staff were just wonderful, aside from a couple of hit & misses. Upon checking in for the next 5 nights in a junior suite; the front desk apparently didn't mention about our eligibility to excess to the executive lounge, I reckoned they were at their low season then.
The hotel is just next to the Ambarrukmo Plaza & about 20 mins from the airport. The surrounding & ambience were excellent & it even has a Royal history behind this hotel. Although they are not situated in the heart of the town but they are still located in a busy area & yet we weren't affected by the traffic noise, it was rather quiet & tranquil except for those loud noises from some unruly guests utilising the pool.
The spa was enjoyable but do note they are an independent group not affiliated to the hotel but utilising their premises; they even do room spa services at a slightly different price tag.
Dinning in the cafe was great, especially breakfast, guests were spoiled for choice, from some of their local Javanese cuisines to some Asian & Western style dishes & they even have a Jamu corner, an Indonesian herbal concoction, good for both health & beauty. The pre freshly squeezed juice corner was a big let down, extremely diluted.
Room service was good with presentation, quantity, quality & taste.
Room was very spacious, clean & a good king size bed but bathroom could improve.
Would I return? Yes, definitely, the staff made you feel special with their Indonesian hospitality.

The positives are that it's close to airport (although I found that not pleasant for lesuire travel) and it's connected to a shopping mall.

Unfortunately that's where the backend compliments end.

It's large breakfast buffet has almost hundreds of items yet nothing is spectacular. Don't expect a lively lobby bar; or decent late night dining options. But by far the worst part is the rooms. Old, outdated, poorly lit, and cheap finishing make it feel like meager accommodation.

Overall, not the best place to stay in Yogyakarta. Try Amanjiwo.

An Excellent hotel with friendly staff

I have stayed here a few times on business and I enjoyed it tremendously. The hotel is of 5 star standard and it can be seen in the restaurants, cafes, bedrooms, and the staff. As a business traveler, I have problem only with the Business Centre which cannot scan and photocopy. But the staff are ready to help. I will stay here again and will recommend it most highly to my friends.

Love staying there, just bit noisy with motorcycle at night. The staff is very friendly. Used hotel rental car to explore Yogyakarta, the drive was very helpful. the staff at the restaurant need more knowledge about food and need to put sign for the strong food like Durian!

The hotel is very good, next to a big mall. The foreign exchange rate in the hotel is very poor compare with the one which is in the mall next to the hotel.
The morning free breakfast is the big plus. The staff is very friendly. The will make sure almost all guests in the dining area is enjoying their food. They suggest local delicacies. Very friendly. I am very impressed with their friendly attitude.

It was great, we love Jogjakarta. The people very friendly and the city is great. Unfortunately we have a lot of moths in our room. They said they are going to spray them, but still there until we check out. Not enough staff at the front desk, so it is a long wait to check in and check out. The card not work anymore before check out time, and has to wait for a long time to update it. Asked for wake up call at 7 but at 3 am we got a call.

I was very pleased with my stay at the Royal Ambarrukmo. Great breakfast selections and excellent service in all aspects. Internet service is fast and reliable. Rooms are adequate and having a balcony sure gives a feeling of spaciousness and completeness. Overall, a gem in Jogjakarta!

The receptionist Putri was a bit unfriendly when we arrived. No smile at all. Room was not cleaned properly. Found some hair and debris all around the floor, including the balcony. The shower room was a bit yellowish on the floor side. The restaurant is top knot. Breakfast was awesome. Have to give the highest mark for this part. Quiet friendly attitude toward family, because they let my daughter in. They said extra one kid is ok per 2 adults. Almost like Conrad in Bali, who let kids eat for no extra charge.

The hotel is one of Yogya's oldest but recently refurbished. Spacious rooms and nice grounds make it very comfortable. Staff are super friendly and always helping. If I had an issue it was quickly fixed. Seems to be a family hotel so expect kids. The pool is nice and there is a shopping centre next door.

Nice hotel in good location

Excellent location: next to shopping mall with a wide selection of restaurants (and a food court!) and relatively closer to Borobudur than from the city central and close to the airport. Great that hotel has its own car with driver to rent for visit to Borobudur for reasonable (won't say cheap) price. Wonderful breakfast buffet. Comfortable spacious room. Although we paid for Mount Merapi view room, we saw only the garden and pool from our 3rd floor room (possibly 4th or 5th floor will have the Merapi view). Front desk staff had an attitude at check-in and check-out--absolutely not hospitable. Didn't quibble about the room because it was only a one-night stay.

We stayed at Ambarukmo hotel for our 2nd honey moon purposes. Overall Ambarukmo hotel is a good hotel only for the doormen and the security has a poor service, they just stand by the door and don't give a hand while I did unloaded the luggage from the car baggage.

Outstanding Breakfast

You get a sense the staff really want to serve well at this hotel. Most requests were attended to immediately, and there were smiles all round. Buffet breakfast has the best quality local spread I have ever seen in Indonesia. Just a short ride from the airport, and the mall next door really helps open up options for food and shopping in the city. Door to room patio needs a device to stop it from slamming shut. Decent wi-fi.

Great hotel for families & business travellers

The hotel itself has a very spacious and welcoming lobby. There are swimming pools set in a lush gardens, both for the fitness enthusiast and children, The buffet breakfast was 5 star with a great choice of made to order fresh fruit juice and a choice of western, eastern and local cuisine. Sitting in an open terrace enjoying the breakfast and tranquility was the highlight of the day.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The positives: 1. Breakfast buffet is quite superb, and the service is friendly 2. Large shopping mall next door 3. Clean and generally professional service. There was an airport return service, the guy who dropped us off gave us a really weird scary vibe, but apart from that I found the other staff friendly and accomodating. Overall I would say if you have to go to Yogyakarta, this is a fine place to stay, especially if you love shopping. We booked a driver.

Successful rebirth of a 1960's icon

From the first minute, the helpful, friendly and professional staff set the tone for the rest of our stay.
The hotel was originally opened in the 1960's and had been closed for some years. The renovation is delightful - it appears to be a very modern hotel, and the rooms and bathrooms are totally renovated. Perhaps because of its age, the room size was generous by modern standards. Some of the original features remain, including some large mosaic murals and some bronze statues in the gardens and pool surrounds. Pavillions from centuries ago are in the hotel grounds, and have also been renovated.
The breakfast buffet with European and Indonesian selections kept our interest for the whole 2 weeks we were there.
Room service was efficient, and staff were very obliging and happy to help with any small request.
A large shopping plaza is a 1 minute walk through the hotel grounds away (no need to negotiate crossing the road!!)
We were sad to leave, and would very happily return!!

スタッフのみなさんとても親切で私の質問やリクエストに快く対応していただき快適に過ごせました。空港からも車で１５分くらいの距離なので便利です。お部屋も広くてバルコニーもあり眺望も良かったです。サンライズも見えました。幹線道路が近くにありますが音は気にならず静かに過ごせます。プールの見える側のお部屋だったから静かだったのかも。セキュリティーもしっかりしていて安心できました。
