The property is very well maintained and clean, pools are beautiful, staff friendly and welcoming. Guest Services show a real desire to ensure you have a great stay. A la Carte restaurants served very well presented food but I found all restaurants to be a little bland for my taste, Pan Asian was the best restaurant we went to. In addition there are a wide range of drinks on offer but wine, beer didn't taste of high quality. A Prosecco I ordered was flat and tasted like it had been open too long which was disappointing. In all in all a great place for ultra relaxing holiday in a clean and friendly environment.

The hotel is well worth a visit.
There are 6 a la carte restaurants and we thoroughly enjoyed 5 out of the 6.
However, due to this we were given another visit to one we enjoyed.
The concierge was fantastic as was customer relations.
Restaurant staff in the 5 we enjoyed were amazing. They just couldn’t cope with the numbers in the one we didn’t enjoy.
Some of the bar staff are incredible. A couple seemed to work in slow motion.
We found the staff to be very polite and always served with a smile.
Disappointed you have to pay extra for tennis.
The reason for the 4 stars is purely due to end of season. We are sure the place would be different during high season.

Great all inclusive resort

Wonderful stay at the Mitsis Royal Mare, the room and facilities were elegant and perfectly maintained and all staff were lovely and welcoming. We found the food in the themed restaurants great, maybe they could improve the food options for the main restaurant, especially for vegetarian guests. As in many resorts in Crete there were few stray cats and it was nice to notice one of the staff leaving some food and water available for them. They clearly look very hungry and the hotel could certainly leave some more food for them. We have been to other Mitsis Hotels and this is by far our favourite, particularly the rooms with sharing pool and themed restaurants.

Very nice property. Location is a little out of the way, so definitely rent a car OR see about renting the car they have on the property. We went March 25-31 and most of the restaurants and stuff around the resort were closed. Food at resort is good, but some restaurants 30 mins. away are amazing. Tons of cats around the property so don't go it allergic. Would go back.

We stayed for 2 weeks & we had a fantastic time. The Hotel is very clean. The staff were excellent - very attentive & professional. The restaurants were all lovely, with the main restaurant having a wonderful daily choice & again very helpful staff.

This hotel was NOT 5 stars, more like 3.5. Worn carpets, tiny rooms, stained carpets etc, the hotel is in desperate need of renovation. The food was also terrible. No variety or taste. For the price being paid, I expected a lot more. The staff was lovely and really helpfully. The hotel itself was pretty, but it needs a serious makeover and new chefs.

Positives:

Beautiful grounds and gardens, very clean, specious rooms, great food, nice speciality restaurants, friendly stuff, nothing was too much trouble

Negatives:

- letting people reserving their sun beds with towels early in the morning so others can’t find any free. Some people wouldn’t turn in for hours! This shouldn’t be allowed…
- no electric sockets by bed
- beach a bit stoney, not even, not good for kids
- outside the hotel is pretty shabby
- nearest town Hersonissos quite tacky
- excursions sold by the hotel overpriced for what it was

We had questions at the front desk about snorkelling and car rental and shopping and she said we need to go into Heraklion. That was incorrect because All three were near by and within walking distAnce. We were speaking English and not sure she understood English very well.

One the best resorts anywhere.
The resort is on gradual slope and layout is such that you get sea views everywhere.
The sea and beach are safe for swimming.
Good facilities and a good spa area.
Food in the main restaurant was good.
About staff everywhere they are excellent.
They offered good white wine complimentary in the room.

Not so clean, pools are not in great shape (pilling walls), beach is beautiful, room are a bit small, staff is nice and pleasant, food is ok, gladly we didn’t take the all included - we heard people complaining that not everything is included (beer, alcohol, some of the expensive food, and some of the restaurants at the hotel aren’t included). Not amazing in general. I was pretty disappointed… to be completely honest.

The property is not 5 Stars, it is nice but dated.
The area around it is very run down.
The food was ok not outstanding very repetitive at lunch and Dinner, lunch could of offered kebabs or burgers, chips just something quick and simple with a salad bar. required more snacks, very regimental times, no in between snacks or fruit at the bar etc.
I would say the breakfast buffet was very good with lots of choice for everyone
The waiting staff were slow often not even bringing requested items
The a la carte restaurants were Good but again Choice was limited
There was a lovely lady on each day at the main pool bar, so polite and welcoming She was by far a stand out staff member
Not much entertainment on an evening
The Gym equipment was very dated, especially the running machines
Nothing in the rooms was replenished.. I have never known that before at a all inclusive hotel! Not even coffee sachets.
I will not be returning I’m afraid
The beds were hard and the pillows were cheap and hard

Wonderful resort with accessibility for wheelchair users. There are sloping paths around the resort but transport (golf type cart) is available for disabled users and the elderly. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Strict use of masks and sanitiser in dining rooms whilst at the buffet. Excellent choice of food and drinks if on all inclusive.

Definitely not a 5* max 4*, service some places or better to say some shifts off ppl were very nice and polite but some were not nice at all. Over priced, not worth the cost. Hotel is big and environment is pretty nice, but I would not recommend to go there for all inclusive package. Drinks are good but there is no decent place for snacks. Breakfast over very early and if you didn’t make it on time then there is no really place to get brunch or snacks, so you are not recommended to sleep long on your holidays if you cant wait for food till lunch ( was traveling with child 4 years old who liked to sleep longer in the mornings)

All of the staff was genuinely happy and empowered to fix issues immediately! The food was excellent and so was the service! The room was clean and the housekeeping never failed to do an outstanding job! The resort guest services team and hotel manager were approachable and visible which allowed any issues to be ironed out without delay! Royal Mare was a fantastic hotel. I could not think of a better hotel to be staying in.

Alex, the hotel manager, looked after my three friends and I. He also offered us an upgrade to one of the beach front villa which was the absolute highlight of our holiday. The reception staff and other support staff (particularly those who drove us to our villa through the buggy's) were extremely helpful and friendly!

The hotel is very clean and is perfect for deep relaxation. The gym and indoor swimming pool also very good. Location wise, Hersonissos is just a quick and cheap taxi ride away and is a fantastic place to go for food and some holiday shopping.

Overall, an amazing place to stay in Crete. I will definitely recommend this place. Thank you Alex and others for looking after us!

The Aldemar Royal Mare Hotel is really lovely. It is immaculately clean and the staff are helpful. It has a private beach with activities for all. Some of the rooms have private pools, we did not book one of those this trip, I thought they would just be small pools but having seen them it would be worth booking a room with a shared pool as they are huge and you can relax on patio loungers right outside your door or use the main pools, which there are plenty. The gym is good and the spa is very relaxing although a bit dated compared to some other five star hotels we have stayed in. It is very clean.

Beautiful hotel with beautiful views of the sea. This hotel is an all inclusive but we stayed only for two days with breakfast included. The beach restaurant and the Asian were my favourites. Very helpful friendly staff . My only complaints were that the air conditioning was not working properly in our room and the actual hotel was a little tricky to find if your coming by car. There wasn’t a lot of signage to guide you to the hotel. Overall, it was a great hotel and I would definitely recommend!

The Longer We Stayed, the More We Enjoyed the Hote

First room allocation did not suit us. However, the hotel responded quickly and the second room was fine. The hotel faces north to the beech and sea. So, think carefully whether and when you want the sun on your balcony and, if appropriate, your private pool. For example, in late September onwards, certain sea facing rooms will have no or little sun on their balconies/pools. The main restaurant, the Symposio, is a bit uninspiring in decor. However, don't be put off, the food was pleasantly varied and good. We didn't use the other specialist restaurants but did have 2 lunches at the Abatross, their beech restaurant. The fish was excellent. If you have mobility issues, suggest you stay close to the main building, i.e. Rooms 101 to 266. Also, I would avoid apartments 711 to 786. They are close to the beech but also noisy adjacent hotel and a service road (hotel still has many old, smelly diesel buggies).

Good class of hotel, maybe a little old in places and therefore parts of it need updating/modernising. Beach is made of very small stones, it's not a sandy beach and the El Greco a la carte restaurant is not a la carte standard or quality, but aside from these points hotel staff were very friendly and the other eateries were very good.
Rooms and all public spaces were very clean and all staff were very accommodating and couldn't help enough.

The hotel is great with excellent facilities and swimming pools. The food was good and had plenty to choose from. The only let down was the beach which is rocky and rough, two feet into the water it is above chest height. Wouldn't recommend for families or if you are looking for a nice swim in the sea.

Amazing hotel!!

If you are looking for a place peaceful, quiet and beautiful, Royal Mare is the place to go! It's near the beach, very good food, all staffs from hotel very polite and helpful. They have a gym you can use for free and if you want to spend an extra money they have a big Spa with different types of massages.

My wife, my 2y son and myself had a unforgettable time at Royal Mare, i chose a \"all inclusive deal\" and it saved me a lot of money with drinks and food, they do very good food (different everyday) and we could have all kind of cocktails for free. We had a sea view room and it was just a few meters away from the beach.

I recommend you to hire a car to drive around the island, there are some beautiful places to see and it's cheap!

To have an idea how much we enjoyed the hotel, we supposed to stay 7 days, but I cancelled our flights in the last minute and extended our holiday 3 more days.

It was the perfect holiday for us!

Little Disappointing

No expectations on arrival however a few disappointments due to disorganisation and general maintenance:
.Grounds. Hotel v big, nice greenery around appartments, well structured. Porters work hard all day and assist anyone with driving them to and from rooms if needed, as many elderly this time of year.
.Room. old furniture, v soft mattress, bathroom shower door leaking, decoration old and needs renewing. Slippers and bathrobe provided as well as tea, coffee and kettle.
.Service. telephone reception instructions appear to be incorrect in all rooms as this is known to other guests but not updated hence at 11.30pm i tried calling reception to get another blanket...wasnt able to get through so slept in the bathrobe. Asked for blanket twice as this was removed from my room, twice (first 4 nights chilly & windy). Requested coffee sachets when these ran out, as they were not filled automatically. One morning on asking for a Spa appointment (spa information kiost was empty), a lady with the mobile in her hand said she could call but better I just go myself (?!)
.Food/Main Restaurant. All waiters work very hard, very structured, excellent service. Food varierty plentiful for every taste. Sweets ie cakes all tasted the same as all used processed cream. (Exception: Greek traditiinal cakes ).
.SPA. 5 min walk uphill from the main Hotel is the Spa, which I used a few times however prices more expensive than London on comparison. Ladies at Spa very professional.

Top for relaxation

Lovely hotel, who were thoroughly obliging - giving us a better room than booked, with its own private pool, letting us keep the room late on our day of check-out, since it was the end of season and there wasn't too much pressure on their space. It's a massive resort with quantities of swimming pools and gorgeous gardens to roam around. The resort was always beautifully clean and any issues we had were promptly seen to by hotel staff. The spa was fantastic, with some of the best treatments I've had (but a bit pricey). One note - if you're going out of season, be aware that it's worth asking which of the facilities and restaurants will be open, as not all of them are.

And the one restaurant i tried, Candia, was superb and excellent value for money (at least compared to London!)Dont come here if you're looking for sandy beaches, but the swimming was wonderful. I was there on the last weekend of the season, so hard to say what it would be like during peak.

Relaxing escape

Large hotel complex that really has the wow factor, with many amazing sea views. Plenty of activities, with a well appointed spa and quality tennis courts (assuming that you enjoy running around a tennis court in 35 degree heat!!!)

Numerous restaurants, and comfortable bar that has great views both day and night, somewhere we ended up at the end of every night as a great place to chill out.

Lots of swimming pools which were mostly private areas, but some very good general pools. They were salt water, which we much preferred and just really nice to swim in.

Staff were all friendly, and although we were not the most demanding of guests, we feel that they would have been more than pleased to help.

We only ate in the main buffet restaurant as we were only on bed & breakfast and often ate out, but the food was fine with good variety and fresh juicy fruit, and the best tomatoes ever! There were several other restaurants, but we didn't see the sushi bar open once, and the a la carte restaurant looked really tempting, but expensive.

We left very relaxed, and didn't really want to go home and can only recommend this resort. It ticked all of our boxes and we hope it ticks yours.

Die Zimmer und auch die öffentlichen Gebäude waren nicht besonders sauber. Die Speisen waren sehr lecker und abwechslungsreich. Gewisse Angestellte waren sehr freundlich, aufmerksam und aufgestellt. Gewisse sahen aber nicht sehr motiviert aus. Das Angebot und die Anlage an sich war wunderbar.

La struttura è molto bella, costituita da piccoli edifici inseriti in una vegetazione curata con moltissime palme e circondata da piscine; ha anche accesso diretto su un tratto di mare, generalmente un po' mosso, ma con mare e spiaggia puliti, attrezzati con ombrelloni e lettini e da cui si possono godere bei tramonti. Il personale è gentilissimo e sempre disponibile e ha reso il nostro soggiorno indimenticabile. Si mangia molto bene e in particolar modo nei ristoranti a la carte. sono molto ben organizzate anche le escursioni prenotabili direttamente in hotel. E' la nostra seconda volta al Mitsis Royal Mare e sicuramente torneremo!

Freundlichkeit wird hier sehr groß geschrieben , egal wo… überall sind alle total herzlich !
Die Anlage ist fabelhaft.
Wir hatten eine Suite mit Pool & können diese empfehlen.
Etwas älter , in die Jahre gekommen. Viele Ameisen.
Am Pool sind leider die Liegen sehr schnell reserviert & schattenplätze gibt’s wenige.
Keine große Animation, was uns nicht gestört hat.
Essen in den Restaurants super gut, Reservierung am besten schon vor Check in.

Abends gibt es kleinere Shows am Pool .

Wir kommen wieder bzw. probieren gerne andere Mitsis aus .

We got an upgrade due to the Expedia VIP Access program and had the pleasure to stay in a wonderful Suite with Sharing Pool. Everything was wonderful. The cleanliness was great, the cocktails absolutely amazing. Food in the buffett restaurant was fine, but more variety would have been great.
Gutenfree eating (cealic disease) during our stay was no problem, but more options for dessert would have been nice.
The speciality restaurants need a reservation, but are often fully booked, which makes it necessary to reserve a few days in advance (not ideal for short stays) - that is why we could only try the beach tavern, which was delicious.

The staff was extremely friendly and service minded! Really impressive. We stayed at a room with direct access to the pool and it was fantastic. Very calm atmosphere and plenty of space in the pool and surrounding areas. Food was overall good to very good, but the meat at the buffet was usually overcooked (chewy). In some cases you could ask the chef to get it medium or med rare, but not always.

Hotel ist super. Nettes Personal, hervorragendes Essen und saubere Einrichtung. Nur zwei Kleinigkeiten die nicht so gut waren. 1. Die Massagen im Spa waren für den Preis nicht sonderlich gut. 2. In der Anlage liefen viele Katzen rum. Für jemanden wie mich, der eine Katzenhaarallergie hat, nicht sonderlich angenehm. Außerdem schien eine der Katzen im Essbereich krank zu sein und dementsprechend gab es einige unschöne Hinerlassenschaften von ihr.
