We really enjoyed our stay. The facility is older but well maintained, the staff was friendly and the view from our room was amazing.

Word of warning for westerners. This hotel is NOT TATTOO FRIENDLY. Mine are all covered when it’s cold so it didn’t matter for this trip, but in the summer I wouldn’t be allowed to use the pool.

Amazing views but could use some updates

Amazing views and friendly staff. The AC isn't very good so they gave us a fan. The rooms are a bit dated, especially the bathrooms. There were mold spots in the shower stall that were kinda gross. Everyone in town agrees that it is a nice hotel though.

Kamakura is a beautiful, charming, coastal city with such an incredible history. So, despite the deficiencies of this hotel, we had a blast. Dining and transportation are very limited at this hotel location. If you don't wish or can't make their restaurent opening times, you have to walk 30 minutes to a restaurant each way or wait min. of 15 mintues for a taxi. We went last July and picked this hotel for the beautiful pool , however, the pool was closed the entire time we were there! The staff was very aloof and disconnected and not accomodating at all -- very unusual for us, as throughout our 3 weeks of Japan vacation, every other hotel had remarkably dedicated staff. We will return to Kamakura just not to this hotel.

The hotel has seen its former gory days and has clear maintenance that is lagging behind to hold 4 star standard.

Since its not \"season\" in japan pool is not open. some type of bathing facilities would be a big plus.

Food

Breakfast is no longer the buffet but rather the fixed plate. The taste is very blend and boring. I was looking forward to the custom omelette i had around 8 years ago here but it was no longer served.

Steamed vegetable with no seasoning and cheese dip was the low point. For 3500 Yen there could have been more.

The view from this property was stunning! We had the room with a view of Enoshima and Mt Fuji. It was cloudy part of the time and so we couldn’t see much of the mountain, but on our last day the clouds lifted and the view was Amazing! It is also walkable to the beach and restaurants, and they have a shuttle to a bus stop and near a train station. The staff were very kind and really tried to understand our poor Japanese and English. This property was expensive, but we felt we got our money’s worth.

I really liked the Kamakura Prince hotel. Some may say it is dated, but I think it had a classic mid-century modern/art deco look which I thought was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and clean. There are two restaurants: (i) a Japanese teppenyaki restaurant; and (ii) a \"European\" restaurant. I would not say that they are super gourmet, but I enjoyed my meals there. The European restaurant has huge windows looking out over the water with views of Mt. Fuji and it is phenomenal at sunset. I gave the hotel 5 stars because I really liked it, though it is not a true 5-star hotel like a Ritz Carlton, etc.
Also, in case this matters, it is about a 10-15 minute taxi ride to the center of town. It is set outside of town in a nice area overlooking the water, but it is not in a walkable area, in case that matters.

Check in staff was inexperienced. I reminded him to check that the sofa bed should be set up as requested (I checked in at 9pm), he replied it’s done. Got the room, sofa bed not ready. Asked again, and had to move to another room.
Air conditioning was a joke. Room was hot and stuffy. Asked for an electric fan but didn’t help much.
The sofa bed is not suitable for sleeping. The springs worn out and could not provide support to the body. Literally you sink into the mattress. Sofa bed mattress should be dumped years ago. Unable to fall asleep so end up two adults had to squeeze into one single bed.
Asked for a late check out, the price is ¥7000+ and the staff replied was impolite.
Lounge chairs and umbrella by the pool normally supplied for free at most resorts but surprisingly there is a charge of ¥4000+
Plus, room was outdated and tired though it costs ¥33000+ per night.

The property is old and not well-maintained. The view from our room was beautiful, the Shichirigahama Beach and Enoshima. Besides that, the grounds were over grown and we looked directly into the pool and jacuzzi, closed at the time of our stay due to the season, but dirty with moss.

All rooms have views of the ocean, mount Fugi (weather permitting) and Enoshima island. Commuter train is only a 10 minute walk and it goes right into the heart of Kamakura, plus stops close to Enoshima - a must see. There is a small commercial area a very few minutes walk away with groceries, bakery, coffee shops, restaurants etc. we are walkers and a 1 hour walk got us to the centre of Kamakura, the Great Buddha, as well as Endoshima the other way. On site restaurant was very fancy and expensive and was only open for supper when we were there. Bed, linens, amenities all very nice.

Excellent view of Endoshi Island and each room has a huge window facing the sea. Only negative part is that hotel is on a hill, so we needed to walk halfway up before taking the elevator which brings us to the top of the hotel where the rooms are. There is a shuttle from the train station, which ends at 530pm, so do make sure you arrive befoee that. If you are walking, do take the coastal route. Do not follow Google maps to take the smaller roads through the houses as it is a tough route up slope.

Chic and comfortable

The building is a big old but it’s so chic and peaceful. All rooms looking down the swimming pool and the sea. We stayed for two days and enjoyed spending time in the swimming pool. They keep customers seat all day which is so convenient as we could pop out for lunch then come back. The pool’s closing time is 5 which is too early. Their staff were well trained and incredibly helpful. It’s totally worth paying the top price.

The property is a little older then what i am use to. The room furniture is older but comfortable. Pool closed between 4-5pm depending on season of the year. You will need to pay for using the Pool Chairs, but regular chairs are FREE. Pool and Jacuzzi is nice and we spent a lot of time in there.

There is only 1 restaurant which is buffet style. A little pricey for the food quality but not bad, but not fantastic. But I only ate Breakfast which was about $28 a person and $8 for kids. Did not try lunch or dinner but the price is $48 for lunch and did not see the dinner price.

They offer a shuttle service to the train station, but it is super close and you can just walk. Right near the station is also a 7 Eleven, so you can get anything you possible would need. You can take the train to a bigger station to find food like Kamakura or Enoshima.

Amazing location , just across the road from the sea. We had amazing views of mt fuji and enoshima island. This is a top end hotel with a nice room (western beds) a large bathroom and pleasant public spaces. The cafe was only open limited hours and there is no bar but this is normal for hotels in japan. We ate in the french themed restaurant which was good but not realy french food. (We live in France) Breakfast was excellent. Close to a station of the enoshima electric railway which made sight seeing very easy.. Staff very helpful especially the young lady on reception but very little english spoken

Nice Hotel but watch the pool hours!

This was a nice hotel. Room was very clean and pretty large for a Japanese hotel. That is the good part.

The thing that turned me off was the pool. The pool closes at 4:00 in September and 5:00 in August. Are you kidding me. We specifically stayed here because it was close to the ocean and it had a pool to relax by for a few days. We toured Japan for a week and a half and we were looking for a place to spend a few days to relax. After walking the beach and seeing some sights we came back to the hotel at 3:40 and head to the pool. It was hot and I needed a swim and a beer!! The pool attendant nicely said the pool closes at 4:00 and if I wanted to sit in a nice reclining chair it would be 1000 yen. Not a lot of money. But seriously, first the pool closes and 4:00 (20 minutes after my arrival) and then I need to pay the full day rate (1000 yen) for a pool chair (for 20 minutes) . It pretty much soured me on the hotel. The topper is at 4:00 sharp (Japanese efficiency) they round everybody up, follow you out of the pool and lock it up. So I quickly finish my beer and rush out.

I feel I'm being a little harsh. It was a nice hotel. But again, the reason we went there for 2 days was the pool and we spend a grand total of 20 minutes at the pool. The rule seems a bit ridiculous. I'm sure there is a reason but I can't figure out what it might be.

Prince Hotel Kamakura upkeeps a team of staff always with smiling faces despite heavy workload regardless front desk, dining room or housekeeping. It is away from city centre by several kilometres with a heavy coastal traffic most time of the day in order to get out of the local community that is nice and quiet. Parking is convenient. Cleanliness and amenities are what you expect of a reputable hotel chain. Easy access to Enoshima, a nice island to visit.

Awful hotel. Overpriced, no character poor service

This was the most unpleasant and overpriced hotel I've stayed at in 40+ years of international travel for work and leisure. The halls are dingy, the rooms tired and undistinguished. Hotel has no character. It is like a cheap 1970's motel off a US highway. We stayed two nights because they wouldn't let us cancel the second night. In the morning after our first night, we woke up to find the shower, tub and bathroom floor flooded with disgusting brown water. The hotel's response was to have us pack up our suitcases and move ourselves to the room next door, which was also flooded. They then had us move to another room in a noisier location with a worse view. They did not apologize for the inconvenience, let alone offer to reduce the ridiculous price of over 400 usd for one night. The room was a firetrap. The door to the outside patio would not open, leaving the only way out down a long dark narrow hall. The hotel is located a 20 minute taxi ride or electric train ride outside Kamakura. The local train stop is about five minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel has no concierge or information about the world heritage shrines and temples in Kanakura, although it bills itself as a kanakura hotel. Fortunately, the tourist information office next to the JR rail station is excellent and provided good guidance for spending a day hiking around the area's magnificent historic Sites. The hotel's outdoor pool is only open 10-5, so you can't swim after viewing the sites.

I staid only one night in Kamakura. Wished it had been more. Real gem of a place.
One word of caution though: on arrival at the village, I decided to take the Enoden train to Inamuragasako, then walked, with the help of GoogleMap, towards the hotel; after a few minutes along the tracks and a very strenuous uphill with my bagage, there was no hotel in sight; AppleMap, on the other hand, led me back down and right towards the next hill, where indeed the hotel was.

Just gorgeous!

We stayed here for two nights and loved it. Our room (and I believe all rooms) had a great view of the shoreline, Enoshima Island with the lighthouse, and Mount Fuji on clear days. Our room had a lot of space which was greatly appreciated, and although they pushed two beds together to make a big one it was comfortable. There was a small balcony in the corner that you can stand in to take photos, and large glass windows for viewing. I enjoyed watching the morning sun over the coastline. The hotel restaurant was nice and provided an enjoyable full course French meal, and there are other restaurants along the coast for dining out. When we checked in the lady who showed us to our room kindly brought in a wi-fi kit and set it up for us, otherwise LAN connections are available. I would love to stay there again, and the Enoshima train has a nearby station for easy transit to Kamakura or Fujisawa.

Great hotel if you know your way around Japan

It was a very beautiful hotel one of the nicest hotels I ever stayed in. The service was very good even if only two of the staff spoke English. If they could not understand they tried their best to help me. The view was wonderfull, you get to see a small beach town in the kamakura area, but that was the hotel's only down fall. It is in a very small town area and a bit away from the train, with few taxis, luckily there is a bus. If this is your first trip to Japan I would not choose this hotel, but if you know the Kamakura area or are really good on the trains or have a car then this is a great hotel. It is away from it all and most hotels in the city are small or loud.This one is roomly and quite.

Kamakura Prince Hotel - far away from everything!

Although in a beautiful location with great views, this place was far away from downtown and the shrines/temples - very expensive to get to by taxi and too long by bus. It would have been nice if the shuttle would have taken guests to the main station, approx. 7 miles away instead of a the local train stop.
Breakfast buffet cost 2,200 yen pp, but was wonderful--could get you through the day.

Loved Kamakura

Kamakura is a great place to visit, but being an hour from Tokyo would get very busy in summer and holiday periods. The Prince is well situated on Sagami Bay, a big surf beach just out of Kamakura and near Enoshima Island. It is a 2minute walk to the Enoden Railway (or free hotel shuttle) which gets you around easily and cheaply and we used it to go on to Hakone via Fujisawa. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, including Bills if you need a good latte and the French restaurant in the hotel was excellent. This hotel is quiet, comfortable and a nice break from tatami mats! We would definitely stay there again.

Our evening at Kamakura Prince Hotel was relaxing but we were unable to see Mt. Fuji due to cloud cover over the mountain. The outside wall in each room of this hotel are made of glass and afford a great view of Enoshima and Mt. Fuji on a clear day.

Too isolate, really caters to groups and not suitable for individual tourism

As other reviewers have said, the hotel location is beautiful and the rooms extremely spacious and comfortable. However, the hotel is geared to large groups of Japanese tourists and is not really suitable for individual tourism. It is too isolated from anything else and the shuttle bus to the local rail station does not run frequently enough for it to be really convenient. One becomes a \"captive\" guest with no place else to eat, and getting a simple coffee and croissant for breakfast became an ordeal. The coffee shop on the reception room floor did not begin serving until 10, while the French resturant where the tour groups were booked in to eat a buffet breakfast could not seem to cope with us when we didn't have the requered \"breakfast coupon \"ticket\" and did not want the full buffet.

The Japanese restaurant where we had dinner one night had only a few items translated into English and was extremely expensive -- tho very good.

And it seemed such a shame to have that beautiful pool visible and inviting but \"closed\" in October, despite the beautiful, unseasonable and very warm weather Japan had been experiencing throughout out stay in the country.

Great Hotel, a little isolated.

The Kamakura Prince is an upscale hotel more in the \"spa\" category.
The hotel is a great getaway, huge swimming pool, adjacent to the golf course and the perfect place to relax.
We were looking for good accomodation to spend more than the \"one day trip\" from Tokyo to see the sights at Kamakura. And these are well worth taking two days to see.
We purchased the \"return Tokyo/Kamakura plus two day free all-rail Kamakura pass\" from JR Rail. Perfect for sightseeing. The hotel has a shuttle that goes from the hotel to a nearby station. You need to find out when it runs.
The hote is very nice, new and we had a terrific view of Mt. Fuji from our room. Both at sunset and sunrise. Due to room facing of the hotel I would guess all the rooms on the upper Arc of the hotel have the same view. See the hotel picture.
It was harder to find a way to go out to dinner. Our usual choice. It would have been too far to go back into town. But we don't know the area that well, so there may be other options.
We decided to splurge and have dinner in the French restaurant in the Hotel. It was a bit pricey at Y17400, a bottle of modestly priced white wine included. But possibly one of the best prix-fixe meals we have had in years.We would gladly go back for dinner anytime we wished to treat ourselves.Great food and excellent service.
In general the hotel is up to the high standards, and costs, of all \"Prince Hotels\". But at Expedia the room rates are always good.

Cheap place to stay

If you just need a cheap place to stay before catching a flight home (or after arriving), this hotel is OK. For anything else I wouldn't advise it. The rooms are tiny - that is nothing new for Japan, but this is easiest the smallest room I have had anywhere in that country. What is more disappointing is that the rooms themselves are not all that clean. The tiny bathroom was showing some serious age, and there were some signs of mold that made me uncomfortable.
The free internet is nice, and I suppose the free breakfast could be a plus, but not enough to convince me to go back.

Good place to stay

This is a very comfortable hotel, with a solid location - you are not right in the heart of Kyoto, but that is not a problem as you are right next to a subway station. Add in a great view of Niko castle (make sure to ask for a room with that view), and it works well.
The restaurants are good, although nothing I would get too excited about. If you are looking for a high-end kaiseki dinner, my advice is to get out to one of the places in the city itself as the hotel's Japanese restaurant is average at best.
If you want to be right in the heart of all the sights and the action, then a place closer to the river would be a better option, but for the price this hotel works very well.

Oustanding Vacation Hotel

For a relaxed vacation at the beach, this hotel is perfect. The view is amazing, the staff extremely good, and you can't beat the location for being at the beach. If your goal is to sightsee you will need to use the local train to get into Kamakura itself, but it is a short walk from the hotel and extremely easy to do.

The rooms are huge, and rate as among the most comfortable I've stayed in - certainly the best I used while in Japan.

The only drawback to the hotel was the limited dining options, although there are some good options a short walk away

SPECTACULAR VIEW OF MT. FUJI - LEARN JAPANESE

This hotel is right across the Ocean. Since the pool was not open, the room was very private with view on the water. one morning I got lucky to see Mount Fuji from the small balcony. it was the highlight of my stay.
If you want to go to the center of Kamakura, there is a small train close by, and the hotel has a shuttle to take you to the station (5mn walk)
Good restaurant on site.
The issue I encountered is the lack of multi lingual staff.

From the minute we checked in to the minute we checked out, this hotel experience was very positive. My husband and I enjoyed the lounge while our room was being prepared. I enjoyed shopping in the lobby shop. Overall a very good experience.

nice place to stay...about 5 minute walk to train station

very nice comfortable rooms with ocean views. Building is on a hillside with lobby at top of hill, but lower conference center has a sideways elevator that can save you the walk uphill. A little far from the temples and shrines, but accomodations are worth the distance.

Nice ocean view, clean room, friendly staff

This hotel is located on a hill in Shichirigahama, which is 15 minutes Enoden train ride from Kamakura JR station followed by 5 min. walk. Don't walk up the hill. Go into the banquet building at the bottom of the hill. You can take the elevator that moves diagonally upward to the hotel reception. This elevator is worth taking picture, btw. Hotel looks a little bit outdated, but maintained well. Hotel staff is very nice and all the room have awesome ocean view. They don't really have non-smoking room, but you can request spraying to get rid of the smell. It didn't bother me. I like the cafe Double Doors nearby. They have great dessert! Also we had breakfast at Bills, restaurant by a famous Australian chef.

A pleasant surprise

This hotel was a pleasant surprise on our trip. All rooms have view onto the ocean and onto Mt Fuji - we had two sunsets with Mt Fuji in the background - magnificient. As written before the hotel is a little isolated in terms of restaurants but there is a private (non-JR) line into Kamakura and to restaurants - hotel staff can provide a map. Seeing the hawks soaring over the areas was a highlight as well.

Spectacular resort hotel in a top tourist spot

Wasn't sure what to expect. The hotel sits atop a hill about 3 miles from Kamakura, and you can enter on the grounde level and take a diagonal elevator ride up through the hill to the hotel desk. What we found was a gracious staff, very modern facility offering every comfort, large rooms with great beds and very large bathrooms. On top of this, it's an easy 250 yen ride, quicker, better and cheaper than a cab, from the Kamakura train station to the hotel on the electric train line. A highlight of our two week trip.

Great view but internet and breakfast not included and expensive to purchase

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights because a friend's wedding reception was being held there. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and the view of the bay and Enoshima was nice. They gave us a newspaper in English every morning. They exchanged money at the front desk however the staff did not speak much English.

I did not think the hotel was really worth the money. Breakfast and internet were not included and were expensive. There was no business center available for use. I would have preferred a hotel with breakfast and internet included even if the rooms were a bit smaller. The hallways also smelled of smoke.

全般的に清潔で従業員の皆さんの対応も良く、快適に過ごせました。しかし今回お世話になった客室がエレベーターから異常に遠かったのが難点でした。構造上仕方ないとは思いますが不便さを感じました。

The room is spacious with very good view, yet even though it has been renovated before the bath tub is a bit old and dirty .
Service is just normal , was rather turned off when I asked for help to book a restaurant , the reply was the hotel does not provide such service , though the staff finally helped out!
