Amigo Hostel blamed me for not cleaning the kitchen well enough. The funny thing ia that I cleaned up after two OTHER guests. This meant nothing to the hotel staff. In a show of pettiness, the staff took away MY kitchen access. One staff member got in my face, touched me and my coffee cup. All I wanted to do was heat up some water in the microwave...which was already being used by someone else. It When I removed the staff's hand from my property, nothing happened. Another fuest heated water fir me.

The next day, front desk staff chose to call the Police! I am fine with being refused service for any reason. It is a civil matter and, to tell the truth, I don't really care. I don't want to stay where the staff are overbearing, can't admit a mistake, and don't even want me. How silly! I had a laugh with the Cops outside, too. This same hotel called the Police on a guest whose key snapped into two pieces when he turned it in the door lock.This hotel has a toxic culture.

The bed are extremely uncomfortable, they have a ridiculous amount of rules that they don’t explain, no elevator plus they don’t show you where your room is located, kitchen closes at 8pm, they have no soap in the facility so everyone uses the restroom without washing theirs hands, weird people, no real common area, and someone sold my Puma slides.

Before I even arrived they cancelled my first reservation due to a problem with my card and when I rebooked they charged be double. When we arrived they almost couldn’t find our reservation at all and when my friend joined us two days later they told her there was no rooms even tho she also had a reservation. They simply couldn’t find it. Finally they put her into a room. Me and my other friend who were travelling together were put into a “mixed dorm” that was all men except for us who kept the door open all night long and would come and go all night turning the lights on and off while I slept. When I complained they changed our room and put us in the same room as my third friend which was fine. Also our first room had no windows. On our last night at the hostel there were two beds left in our dorm and the front desk man came In while we were all in bed with the lights out. He turned the lights on and tried to find beds for the three new people but they didn’t exist. They are poorly organized and it’s not a very social hostel…good showers tho…

I made a reservation to only sleep 4 hours, I arrived at 4:30 am and I wanted to stay until 9:00 am. The people at the reception only accepted cash for the reservation and I did not have any, because of that I booked online through Expedia and when I showed them the reservation they told me that they could not let me in because check-in was until 3:00pm

Staff gave me an excellent recommendation on where to get a massage at Manthra Day Spa, located within Casa del Cine, just around the corner. Then I enjoyed a fine meal in the upscale restaurant located within Hotel Punto MX nearby. Great location, and I enjoyed their free library.

Basic hostal, ok for experienced budget travelers. Reception staff does their best to navigate situations which should be straightforward, such as calculating my cash payment for upgrade from an online dormitory reservation to private room. But staff is limited by manager who apparently has zero interest in addressing similar travelers' requests.

Bed in private room was quite noisy and uncomfortable. The bathrooms were quite shabby and when my husband tried to take a shower there was no water. Breakfast was ok nothing special. Good for a couple of pieces of fruit before heading out for the day. Good location. I wouldn’t stay here again in the future but it was okay for the price for two nights.

After previously staying at Amigo Suites, just around the corner (which I gave a good review for). This one was also a pleasure to stay at. The showers/toilet facilities were perfect. The room, the beds and overall cleanliness of the place aswell as the staff I give 5/5...

If I decide to return to these hostels again, I would definately return to Amigo Suites around the corner because of the rooftop. Although failing that, I would be happy staying in this one too!

It was close to main city attractions. The room and bathrooms were cleaned everyday. Staff was very friendly. The only negative aspect was that WIFI was only available up to the second floor. I was on the third floor and the signal was very weak.

This hotel has great location! Walking distance to Zocalo and museums, restaurants, pubs, shops. Friendly staff, good price, breakfast included although could be better. Rooms are clean and nice, no windows but ceiling fan. Lockers in the room. Beds comfortable. There’s Amigo tours on site when you can book your day trips around!

I stayed here for a week and a half. I would do so again if I were traveling on a strict budget, or only for a night or two. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Their English was good, but not fluent. The hostel is very bare-bones. The beds are hard mat cots on bunk beds. I had to walk up two floors to my room, no elevator. The breakfast is very simple but good. The cook (who doesn't speak English) makes a hot Mexican dish to go with the cold cereal, yogurt, jello, etc. every morning. I couldn't get the wifi from my room, but I did have the foresight to take the bed beside the only power outlet in the room. They don't allow outside alcohol into the hotel, but you can buy bottles of beer from them at more or less the going price (35$.) They also have water and soda at reasonable prices. It's in the Centro Historico, the area isn't exactly glamorous, but it felt reasonably safe. Like I said, I would go again if back in Mexico City, which is an absolute must-visit at least once in your life!

Disappointing stay

There’s only one yellow bulb in the room which does not help if you need to pack your belongings at night - I had to use my phone’s torchlight to help me.

Beds were okay but showers were not.
Hot water comes very slowly and when it came, it’s comes intermittently with cold water which defeats the purpose of a hot water shower. The water pressure in the toilet is VERY POOR so it’s very frustrating to even wash your hands or brush your teeth.

WiFi is NON-EXISTENT if you stay at the end of the corridor. You’ll have to find somewhere else in the hostel to us WiFi.

However, I would like to say that the only thing worth mentioning is the breakfast - the hot sandwich is delicious.

Good hostel near the metro and zocalo

I have stayed at this hostel multiple times. It is walking distance to the Zocalo as well as 3 different metro stations. Hostel staff are very friendly and helpful. The building is old, but you can’t beat the service and the price and also a home cooked breakfast every morning

Wonderful location and wonderful hostel!

We had such a good time at this hostel, it was safe and clean and the location in the historical center was to die for. There is food a quick walk away and sights to see just a few blocks down. It was a little loud at times, but nothing too bad. A great place to stay for a great price.

Perfect location for a newcomer to CDMX!

This was my very first solo trip and first time in Mexico. I didn't know anything much about the location or the hostel, but it turned out to be the perfect spot, almost right at the center of the Zocalo and la Palacio de Bellas Artes. Walking along Calle Madero gives you tons of shopping and food options, and connects you to the whole city. Brenda and the rest of the staff at Hostal Amigo are really nice. They all speak at least some English and are willing to help you find your way around, book a tour, and get settled in for your stay. Just step out of the hostel and you find yourself in the middle of Mexico City life.
Breakfast is offered every morning from 8-10, but you might want to grab your own outside. This isn't a problem at all though, because food is really quite cheap and tasty all around. The rooms and bathrooms are relatively clean, not hotel-level of course, but I didn't have any major complaints. If you're looking for a spot with a view, this probably isn't the place (or maybe there are other spaces with views), but for someone who just needs a spot to keep their things and sleep, but is out most of the day, Hostal Amigo is just the spot.

One other thing I was a little thrown off by at first is that there is absolutely nowhere inside the room to properly lock up items if you're using a cable lock. There's a small safe that I couldn't get open, but eventually I decided I didn't need it, as I had a private room and I felt pretty safe just locking my door.

Decent stay in budget hotel; had a suite with private bathroom; bed was fine, bathroom a bit outdated but big and ok, breakfast was rather poor, no elevator, internet PC in lobby was slow, Wifi in buidling was also not fast, TV/Cable was not good; people were very friendly.

The pictures are not the same as the real hostal.

It was a hole in the silling, smell aufful and in the bed was bugs. I couldn't stay 1 night. Even if it is a Hostel they the do it better. I have been in Hostals cleaner and with better conditions that this.
Plus: I Pay for 1 week and they didn't retiran the Money and cancel my transport to the AirPort. Transport thay I also Pay and they didn't return the money. NO RECOMENDED ALL!!!

Bed size OK, sheets and covers too small. Road noise through closed windows too loud. Not all showers worked. Those that did had poor temperature control. Bath sinks had poor cold water flow and no hot water. Had to find a towel yourself.
The large screen in the lobby had non-stop frenetic rap video punctuated mercifully by marginal movies.
At midnight hotel staff did not control the loud talking & laughing in the hall outside the rooms, thereby allowing for a poor sleeping environment.
Staff was friendly and reasonably helpful.

TERRIBLE PLACE, PLEASE DON´T GO!!!!!!

I got the hostel amigo to found out they gave my 2 rooms away, it was almost mid night with no room for us, actually they had gest in areas where they should not be in, so the place it´s a complete mess.
When dealing with the supervisor, she did not solve anything, her solution was go and recover your money with Expedia, as we don´t have it. Or stay in a shared dorm and you have to claim the price difference before Expedia. (Seriously, are you still charging?)

The other related hostels and hotel seem to be as bad managed as Hostel Amigo, as the guy at front desk took forever to find out if there were rooms available -close to an hour took the hole procedure, just to be kicked out with a sorry, I understand how you feel.

I used the washroom -common area- and it was full of used paper toilet (disgusting), the place seems dirty and faucet where liking.

The lobby despite it was past midnight it was noisy, and the entrance even though looks nice in the pictures, it´s really old, dirty flags, rag hairs, worn out seats, terrible.

If you are interest in not having any certainty ting about your reservation, not taking any responsibility -as they blamed Expedia- and share room with unknown people, as they themselves had no idea who those people were or what they were doing in some dorms, in addition to stay in a dirty and old place, please go there. OH! yes, they paid the taxi -a huge van with no taxi sign, and perhaps passenger insurance-

Stayed 4 nights in a private room which was great, nice big window and lots of room. Switched to a dorm room and extended our stay for another 7 nights (no window in the dornroom though), saved some money booking online. The guys at the front desk were great, very helpful and informative!! The ladies cleaning and cooking were friendly and always had a smile on. Great stay in Mexico city and great location!!

Bad room, uncomfortable bed, extremely loud with the bar playing annoying music until very late in the night. Drinking games going on in the common room until 3 or 4 in the morning making all kinds of ruckus. Staff was nice and location was good, but you will not get a good night's sleep here.

Convenient and safe location

Rooms, toilets, and hallways were cleaned daily. Location was good, near the Zocalo and sightseeing spots. It was also near a metro station. Police presence was strong during my stay , didn't feel unsafe. Daily breakfast was decent with bread, cereal, fruits and pancakes.

We are a couple over forty with a special need teen. We were warmly treated. Rooms are basic but clean and bed comfy. We share the bathroom, dorm style, that was kept clean by the other hostal users and the personal.The price ( super afordable) include breakfast bufeet (coffee or tea, bread , butter pancakes and fresh fruit), served in the a big communal table, what gives you opportunities to talk to other people from all parts of the worl.The hostal also arrange our taxi to the airpot and if you wish you can use the tour they offer , but they never pushe it to you. Lovely decor,very happy place,excellent location close to zocalo and metro (best transport )

This was my first time in a hostel. The staff was friendly and the service was worth how much I paid for. I got a really good deal and was very happy with the deal. My cousin however said he got a rash due to the bedding. I am not sure if they weren't clean enough. Other then that it was a good experience!

Nice hotel if you are looking for a cheap place

Non star hotel with shared bathroom. Not very comfy but fine to me with this price. The light in the room is not bright enough. We stayed in a two-queen beds room with a large window so it was okay. I love the breakfast in the morning since most stores don't open until 9 or 10 a.m. Great location, within 10 min walk to Zocalo Square. 15 min walk to Metro station. They have tours to different places as well. The Teotihuacan tour is 500 pesos. I would recommend it.

To be honest, at first I thought it was awful. But then I got accustomed to it, it was not as bad as the first impression I had. You can't expect luxuries in a low-budget hostel. I just wished they were less noisy, you could hear loud music all day and it was worse at nights. Quiet time was supposed to be at 11pm but people just kept drinking, talking loudly and stuff. Not all of us go to party. But, apart from that, I had a good experience. Breakfast was also better than expected, and it's well located (especially for tourists).

Nice if you want to have a fun time!

We nice place in the center of Mexico City! Nothing beats this price, and the breakfast is awesome. The bar is god as well with some fair prices! Only downside is that the hostel is very loud, but for the price you really can't complain!

Real great place to stay since the first day you meet people very friendly make friends easy you get to go out with many people from other country's as well locals have fun at the bar play pool or used the Internet very close to the metro (subway) 2 block from zocalo and 4 blocks to Bella's artes they even have tours that pick you from the hostal and includes breakfast it's just great place shout out to the staff you guys rock Grabriel,Jorge & Jose

We had a queen bed room on the third floor (watch the trip-inducing taller step on the way up!) which, given the price, was a fine place to crash. A place to hang clothes would have been nice and if you're epileptic, the strobe effect caused by the ceiling fan may be an issue.

The staff were helpful but as has been mentioned before, they try to push the tours a bit too much. We did the Lucha Libre tour our first night, which was fine, but got to the pyramids via the Metro and northern bus station and saved enough for a nice dinner.

Centro Historico is great during the day, but lacking in night life. The party vibe of Hostel Amigo was not in effect any of the 5 nights of our stay, but we didn't figure on hanging out there much at night anyway.

Great tours, friendly staff, clean rooms!

The Hostel concierge were absolutely great. We reserved a private queen bed and the bed was made every morning by the staff. Everything was locked up in the safe but after a few days we felt so confortable around the staff we forgot to lock up our things. They make taking a taxi so very easy and even stand outside with you to make sure some unsafe taxi doesn't fool you into getting in. You pay the front desk for the Taxi so there's no guess work if you don't speak spanish (we didn't speak any!)

The tours are an absolute must! Especially the pyramid tour - worth every penny (and cheap!). You not only tour the pyramids but see the ruins outside the city, the basillica of guadalupe, get a buffet included along with an agave lesson and Mezcal tasting. The guide is super knowledgible and very enthusiastic about the history and culture. They make sure you're very confortable along the way.

The lucha libre tour is best enjoyed with a large group.

Amazing Place

This hostel was Amazing! The rooms were very spacious and the bathrooms were nice and clean. There was always an event or some sort of tour going on through the hostel.This made our stay a lot easier, as we didn't have to plan as much for our trip as we anticipated. I highly recommend the tours - great guides and transportation service. I also highly recommend the parties/hang out sessions during the evenings - so much fun!!The staff was very friendly and helpful

Best price to value. The place was really good the people were so nice and polite, the place was clean and well taking care off.
The staff was helpful and supportive! It was our last night in mexico and they left the best impression!

Wonderful hostel for anyone!

Great hostel, very clean and colorful and welcoming. Staff were friendly and helpful, tours organized through the hostel were very affordable and wonderful. Learnt a lot and had a great laugh with our guide. Complimentary breakfast was great, every need and want catered for!!!

Great Hostel, considering the price!

It was good for the price, it wasn't dreadful! The beds were okay but it was very clean and well kept! It was a good place considering it was a hostel! I enjoyed my stay and made the vacation in mexico city much more enjoyable.

Estuve en una habitación privada para 2 personas, estuvo muy bien para descansar.
El personal fue amable, el servicio de regaderas y sanitarios limpios sobre todo en las mañanas.
Sí hubo ruido, pero en la calle sobre todo porque fui en fin de semana. Pero agradable para descansar

El hotel tenía sobreventa no me dieron la habitación tuve que buscar otro hotel salí de ese hotel a las 3 de la mañana y tuve yo que pagar el costo y es fecha que no me reembolsan y el hotel se lava las manos dice que usted es la cancelaron por sobreventa
