Our stay at Hotel Certaldo could not have been better. The staff were exceptional and enhanced our stay. We loved the breakfast of a wide variety of options & our dinner was amazing. We loved walking to town, rode the funicular for the spectacular view & then returning to our hotel to cool off in the pool. If you want a perfect blend of relaxing in beauty and exploring a sweet town, Hotel Certaldo is your choice.

This was a gem. Great stop spot between Rome and Florence. Staff was awesome. All services and amenities were great and our requests were easily looked after. Lobby and hotel in general beautiful. Dinner and buffet breaky were excellent. Very good quality meals and very good service. This place was a top stay for us and if the location is where you may be - you will not regret staying here. Easy free parking ! If you read many reviews and these are important for your decision making, then you will not regret staying here. One of the best !

The staff were all friendly but there was some confusion and mix up at dinner on our first night which we did raise at the time but didn’t want to make a big deal about it. Otherwise the facility and the cleanliness was excellent.

Wonderful in every way from the friendly staff to the luxury touches in the gorgeous rooms, to the best full breakfast that we’ve had in a budget friendly European hotel ever. Just about the only criticism I can mention is that the pool is a bit on the small side and was swarming with mosquitos, but the bartender was able to get us some repellant spray which mostly worked. The expansive grounds behind the hotel are gorgeous for walking barefoot in the grass and exploring the riverside and rapids. We used the hotel as our central location for exploring Tuscany and will definitely be back.

The staff at hotel Certaldo are wonderful from easy, friendly check-in, morning breakfast and bar and pool staff to the cheerful cleaning staff. Everyone is wonderful.

The pool is kept so clean and orderly with comfortable loungers, fresh towels and a nearby pool bar. The breakfast is excellent, with so many fresh and delicious options, including pastries and eggs/bacon/sausage, yogurt and fresh fruit as well as meats and cheeses. The attentive staff will make your fresh caffe choices for you and serve you at your table. There are indoor and outdoor seating available in the garden for breakfast or dinner.

The garden is so green and lovely with lots of private seating areas to enjoy. I highly recommend this hotel for a lovely stay.

Lovely hotel with superb facilities in a picturesque environment. Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. The hotel staff from the receptionist to the waiters and waitresses were so friendly and exceptionally customer-focused. Especially, Mauro, our waiter in the mornings and in the evenings was brilliant and looked after us. His cappuccino was the best.

Staff we really helpful with taxis etc. About a 10 min walk from local train station. Really nice pool. Always nice and quiet. Good breakfasts in beautiful surroundings.

A great find.

What a lovely find with a beautiful old high town up the hill of Certaldo, and often not in guide books. A lovely clean and well presented hotel and great place to use as it is central to lots of the more famous and frequented places. A very relaxing place to stay and staff very happy to help. Highly recommend. Good Wi-Fi and good range of channels on TV which greatly pleased my sons.! A small swimming pool but good for a dip in the heat. The food outside breakfast is light but this is what is advertised and is fine but we did have some lovely wine. Loads of lovely restaurants in old Certaldo up the Funicular railway.

A good base to see the surrounding towns by train.

Good location, near to a main road but conveniently close to the town centre and railway station which meant that it was easy to take day trips to Siena and Montereggioni by train. Nice spacious room with lovely bathroom. This hotel has a large outside area but the pool is small. Breakfast was very good. This is an ideal hotel to spend 2 or 3 nights. Having a meal in picturesque Certaldo Alto is a must either by day or night and it is in easy to reach either by car or on foot from this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times

Dirtiest hotel Ever

The dirtiest hotel I've ever had the miss fortune to stay in. Every wall was disgustingly dirty, the carpet was filthy, the bathroom toilet seat was broken in to places, the shower doors where broken.

The hotel was fully aware of the filthy room and agreed that it was embarrassing and should not be rented but that they where fully booked out and happy enough to give to paying customers.

This is just a very quick review as I will be taking the matter further. I don't believe the hotel should be allowed to get away with this so I took a lot of photo graphs and 4k video to use as evidence.

Perfect location with great amenities

This hotel was perfect for our needs. We were going to Mercantia (festival in the old town) and hotel was in walking distance. We had our 19 month old boy with us so the combination of the pool and the large lovely grounds for him to explore was perfect for him. The room was great and the staff could t have been nicer or more helpful.

Really nice Hotel, but could be so much better. No Kettle or tea making facilities in Rooms and night staff just do not want to make one. No Bar in Hotel so you have to go off site if you want to get a drink.. Rooms are really clean and Tidy and on edge of road but location is OK, not as remote as we thought but still quiet and relaxing. Good hotel for few nights but you would not want it for a week unless you were going out all the time and just sleep here. oh and a small pool. It could be a great place with a bit more thought.

Great place to relax

My husband and I were married in Cortona a few days earlier and we ended out trip with a one night stay here. The hotel is really nice, big and clean and has a pool(although we were disappointed it wasn't open while we were there). It is about a ten minute walk to get to the funicular to get into the old town. There are charming restaurants and museums in old town but also some great places to eat closer to the hotel. We had a very inexpensive delicious dinner at sale e Pepe which was a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Overall great place to visit!

Worn with tiny pool under a pigeons roost

Fitness center in unrenovated separate old building - one windowless room- with 3 pieces of equipment. In this separate building Some window panes missing or are broken, pigeons roosting above, ugly. Main building has torn outside furniture, torn plastic pool liner; bird droppings & feathers in pool area . Would not return. Breakfast was ok- and some charm but not well kept overall.Spouse had to tighten legs on room side table to use it. Walls scarred by marks- need paint!

About the level of a Fairfield Inn or Hampton Inn.

We had hoped for much better when booking this hotel. The reviews were very good and pictures looked pretty good.
The problem is that the rooms are not that great and common areas other than main ones are badly in need of a makeover. The ceiling tiles were missing on the way to our room and carpet is very worn.
The breakfast in the AM was pretty sparse as well.
Clearly this is a hotel that is used by many tour operators and is on that level. It is in between two fairly busy highways and the pictures really don't do that justice.

My wife and I had an excellent short trip at Hotel Certaldo. It's a lovely quaint hotel with good facilities. Staff were friendly and attentive. The only small complaint that I had was that the shower cubicle was small, but everything else was in great condition.

Excellent Hotel , right in the heart of Tuscany

This is a bit of a gem, I had left my passport and return tickets at pisa Airport .. only discovered this at 00:40 in the morning on Arrival to the Hotel ... without the staff (night manager and reception staff) I would have been lost .. they got in contact with the Airport , sorted out my train times and we got there by 10am the following with the Airport Police holding my lost stuff.. I could not have been more impressed.

A mixed bag but definitely not a 4 star

Certaldo is a great place as a launchpad to the more famous Tuscany towns but this hotel was a disappointment. The lobby is modern and well maintained, staff are helpful, grounds are lovely but other areas are tired. the carpet in our room was stained, the walls in the hallways and stairwell are dirty and scratched. Certaldo alto, the historic part of town, reachable only by funiculare is charming and just a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The walk is not scenic but one that we had to take to get to the great restaurants in town and in certaldo alto. It's a 5 minute walk to the train station and it was a cheap 40 minute train ride to Siena. I'm glad we found certaldo which is off the tourist grid but I can't recommend this hotel if one is expecting a 4 star stay.

Fantastic Hotel

We stayed here for a week in March and loved it so much that we returned for another 4 day trip in October. Ideal place to stay for getting around Tuscany. The train station is only a 10 minute stroll away for easy access to Siena, Florence and Pisa. The Hotel was superb. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was great and made for a lovely start to the day. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable. There are some lovely little restaurants in the town which all seem to be very reasonably priced. You must visit Certaldo Alto which is fascinating, has great views and also a number of fantastic restaurants. We would very happily return again.

Ideal Italian Holiday

This was an amazing hotel.
Usually there is at least one thing wrong with accommodation that is wrong, but not this time.
We were treated very well and the hotel was farrr beyond my expectations: the photos do the hotel no justice at all. The one thing I would advise, is that they get a decent photographer for all the rooms and really show the quality of the whole place. the bathroom was modern, clean and the shower power was excellent for quite a rural location.
There weren't many facilities in the hotel, but who goes to Tuscany for hotel facilities? The room was perfect for us and the breakfast was nice. I have already told several people about this hotel and would advise anyone to go... Although children may get bored.

Certaldo Hotel, off the beaten path

This is a great hotel in Certaldo, Tuscany. This is in rural Tuscany. You really need a car to get there. The ancient hill area has 4 great restaurants. We had a great 4 days there, using it as the base for visting other hill towns. You can walk in 10 minutes to many restaurants, including the funicular up to the ancient hill area.

We got a room on the top floor with amazing wooden beams. The hotel is a transformed mill and is so charming. We have spent the last two weeks traveling around Italy and this is my favorite hotel. It's a little out of the way, but I would stay here again and again.

Great hotel and terrific staff

This hotel, while looking like nothing fancy from the outside, was lovely, comfortable and clean. We had a suite and it had a huge bathtub that was spotlessly clean. It was great to take a long soak! Our room overlooked a bubbling stream and there is a nice grassy park next to the hotel where you can take a lovely stroll. The breakfast was simple with high quality ingrediants and plenty to choose from (world's above the quality of any American hotel providing \"free\" breakfast that I've ever encountered). The staff was very friendly and spoke great English, they gave us a map with a highlighted route to the old city center of Certaldo. My only regret is that we didn't choose to stay at this hotel longer.

Certaldo is a pleasant town in the middle of Tuscany, well connected to the main routes and easy to get the most popular destinations like Siena, Pisa and San Gimignano. Also Certaldo Alto is a destination itself.
Hotel Certaldo is a nice and cozy place. We got a roomy room with a semi separated living space, very good bath with a big window to the exterior, all in mint condition. Breakfast buffet above average.

Tuscany vacation.

Great hotel, great location. Close to great points of interest by car or nearby train station. Certaldo itself was very nice as well.
Only concern we had was our friend from Germany visited and could was not able to book for a 3rd night they were full. They charged us for him staying in our room, full price for another room. No cot or anything extra in the room. We disputed but they would not bring down the charge.

Outstandingly good staff.

The best aspect of this hotel is the people who work there. We received a warm welcome and were treated to excellent customer service during our stay. In particular, the lady who runs breakfast is a gem; efficient, observant and friendly. I lost an earring at a local restaurant on our first evening and the gentleman on the night desk went to great lengths to contact the restaurant, initiate a search and arrange for the earring to be brought to the hotel! I was amazed that someone would go to those lengths.

There are issues: other reviews mention the location. It is situated on a busy road, it is in a rather rundown residential / semi- commercial area. There isn't much to do in Certaldo but in the old town there are some museums and restaurants worth visiting. However we enjoyed walks in the hotel garden and there is a weir and river, ( but beware the Mosquitos in summer.)

Lovely hotel ideally placed for exploring Tuscany.

Charming staff, excellent breakfasts, pleasant room, very clean and comfy. Interesting hotel in converted watermill with extensive riverside gardens and well maintained, though smallish, swimming pool. Set on the edge of main town of Certaldo which is somewhat unattractive, but walk across town to funicular up to Certaldo Alto. This is a lovely old hilltop village with amazing views and excellent restaurants.

We used Hotel Certaldo as a base to discover Tuscany. Its location is ideal e.g. 15 mins to San Gimignano, 45 mins to Siena, 90 mins to the beach (Vada)...The staff couldn't do enough to help, recommending sights, places to eat etc...Great variety for breakfast, beautiful gardens. The hotel is a beautiful building and although it was busy, you couldn't hear other guests from your room. The only small negative is that the wi-fi in the room wasn't strong.

Great hotel for seeing Tuscany!

We unfortunately only had one night for Tuscany, and more unfortunately we arrived on a cold, rainy Spring day. Still, the staff were wonderful and helpful, the hotel was clean, attractive, and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and I'm sure would be a welcomed area for relaxing in good weather. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back!

I chose this hotel for its central location in the heart of Tuscany. The train station is a 10 minute walk and the ideal way to visit Florence and Siena. The hotel management is a wealth of information and extremely helpful, absolutely fantastic. The hotel is a converted water powered flower mill and has lots of charm but is fully modernized.

Had a wonderful stay at The Hotel Certaldo, the staff were very helpful to the point that I needed a walk-in shower for two elderly people, so they e-mailed me pictures of the type of showers they have, totally unexpected and a great touch. When we arrived at the airport I was unsure of how to get to the hotel, so they sent me train times and the price of a taxi, which we took after the hotel booked it for us.
The hotel is situated about 1 hour from Pisa airport, but once there the train station is a 10 minute walk as are all the restaurants. The hotel staff will willingly advise you of the best restaurants and how to get to the train station, as well as train times etc., Sienna and Florence are easily accessible. The hotel itself has lovely grounds to relax on, and a river running through, and a 10 minute walk away is the tram to take you to Ceraldo Alto, which is definitely worth a visit.
The rooms are very comfortable, large and cleaned on a daily basis, the towels are changed daily too. Breakfast is offered daily which is good and we even ate there one night, again a good meal. I only have praise for this hotel and if I every visit Tuscany again this is were I'll stay!

Lovely hotel. Very helpful and welcoming staff. My room was very clean and comfortable. Huge bed and very good size en-suite. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice. Hotel was an excellent base and perfectly positioned for exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Will definitely be returning for a second visit to Hotel Certaldo. Oh and don't worry about it being close to the road because the soundproof windows are incredible...I could not hear any road noise at all!

This was an amazing hotel to stay in. The staff were great and very attentive. They remember who you are, and you do not even have to say which room you are in. The hotel is located in a quite area. The room itself is clean, comfortable, and modern. Great place to stay and visit Tuscany for a few days.

A real Find

This hotel is wonderful. Centally located for touring Tuscany. We had a car but still used the train line - 10 minute walk - to Florence . Very clean, modern decore with very friendly staff. Lovely buffet breakfast.The grounds are beautiful and run along the river - a wonderfully relaxing area after touring. Yes, there is a highway on the other side, but double glazing on the windows cuts out any sound. A short walk into the town, not touristy, with friendly locals. Very reasonably priced as well.

Family Friendly Hotel - Great Staff

Very helpful staff who gave good directions to local places to eat as well as places to visit nearby. The room was clean and of a good size near the river which was outside our window. Only complaint about the room was the lighting in the evening was not very good however the staff did try to address this and the pillows were not very comfortable.
Short walk (7 minutes) from the local station and people in the area were really nice. Breakfast was good with a variety of meats/eggs and fresh cakes and fruit served daily along with fresh coffee (not the pre-made pot type).

Would definitely come back if staying in Florence again.

Loved our stay!

This hotel is beautiful. Our room was grand with tall ceilings and it was twice as big as most of our other hotel rooms. The staff was so kind and helpful esp. with helping us get reservations at some of the museums and directions to the train which was just minutes away by foot. We had some laundry done here and they had it done in the same day and the service they use did a great job. I'd stay here again in a second!

Lovely, welcoming hotel

We were so pleased with this hotel. Although it's on a main road, the location is lovely with gardens and a river to sit by. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the breakfast was outstanding (freshly cooked and baked on site) and the rooms were spotless. It's a short walk to the beautiful old part of Certaldo too, and the train station. Only downside was the hard pillows! Would definitely go again.

Certaldo

Loveley hotel though not as near to San Giminano that we thought. ( 20 min drive!). However lovely hotel in very nice grounds by a river. Great to see things like kingfishers, otter & heron but mosquitoes a drawback.. Loveley room (superior) though usual problem of not enough drawers...despite being a large room. Walking distance from Certaldo Alto a lovely medieval town, relatively quiet after Florence, which was great although. Nice restaurants & good views. Hotel staff very helpful & friendly. Breakfast out side. Unfortunalety the weather wasn't good enough to take full advantage of the pool but nice enough to sit for a short while.

A day in Certaldo

Certaldo is a historical town. Very friendly people, great restaurants. If you have a short time and want to understand Italian life and history a day in Certaldo will give you that.

Great place to stay and great staff

The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the station and a further 10 to the old town. San Gimignano is about 30 minutes away. Staff were very helpful with directions and suggestions. the grounds were lovely, plenty of parking and the room was spacious. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

We highly recommend Hotel Certaldo to any couple looking for a true Tuscan getaway. It is a perfect central location for exploring all of Tuscany and the food in Certaldo Alto was our favorite from the entire week in Italy!

Lovely, relaxing break in Tuscany

The staff at Hotel Certaldo were warm, helpful and friendly. The breakfast was really good, included delicious homemade cake :) pool small but clean, but set in lovely garden area. Room comfortable and very clean. Hotel 5 min from railway station with links to Florence and Pisa (approx 1 hr away) Certaldo town square just a short walk away, lots of cafes to have lunch and drinks. A cable car runs every 15 min to the Old town, a beautiful Medieval city definitely worth a visit.

Really well located Hotel in Tuscany

Great Hotel with excellent staff we had a really good stay and will stay again.
Some minor negatives as no tea making facilities in the room and no wi-fi however other than these small points the Hotel was really good.
Nice pool if a little small.

Great stay; too close to highway though

we stayed one night, very clean, comfortable, staff very helpful, free parking and great breakfast
Main piazza is a 10 minute walk then take the funicular to the citta alta, beautiful walled city; not too may tourists even in August ! Restaurant recommendations by staff were fantastic.
