First, Daniela, the concierge who handled a few communications via email/messaging was amazing, as were all the individuals we were lucky enough to interact with during our stay. Special call out to the restaurant staff, massage team, and yoga instructor. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, flush with vegetation and wildlife (esp. monkeys) in abundance. We were a bit caught off guard with the outside showers in the central bungalows, which were fine once we got over it, though they could’ve been a bit cleaner. All bungalows are tucked into the foliage so you definitely get a sense of wonderful isolation and peaceful tranquillity. The thermal river is amazing and the associated hike to and along the water is great, with tons of opportunity to soak in the water and spend many hours enjoying the day.

Río Perdido is one of the most extraordinary resorts we’ve ever visited — a hidden gem that exceeds expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with genuine warmth and hospitality. The maids, servers, concierge team, and everyone on site were unfailingly kind, attentive, and made us feel like we were among friends.

The resort itself is stunning. Set within a private preserve of forests, canyons, and geothermal wonders, every view feels like a postcard. The thermal river is unforgettable — relaxing, healing, and unlike anything you’ll experience elsewhere. We loved the beautiful hiking trails, restorative yoga sessions, and exhilarating zip-lining.

The food was exceptional across all restaurants, with fresh ingredients, great flavours, and flawless service. Every meal felt special.

A true highlight was meeting Gabriel and his father — two of the most gracious, passionate people you’ll ever meet. Their love for the land, the community, and the guest experience shines through in every detail of the resort.

Río Perdido is magical in every category: service, nature, activities, food, and atmosphere. We can’t recommend it highly enough and will absolutely be returning.

Rio Perdido is a boutique gem in northeastern Guanacaste, about an hour from Liberia airport. Beyond its thermal river and preserved jungle, what truly sets it apart is its people.

From the start, every staff member made our stay memorable. Gabriella, the general manager, orchestrates the property with remarkable care. Ykson welcomed us at check-in, Monica flawlessly arranged our activities, and Esteban and Wilfredo made dining a joy.

We were fortunate to be there on August 15th, 2025, when the resort marked National Relaxation Day with its first-ever yoga class at the heliport—a magical spot overlooking the forest. The event also celebrated Rio Perdido’s inclusion in the Small Luxury Hotels of the World’s new Wellbeing Collection. Marisol, the yoga teacher, created an unforgettable experience, blending yoga with her ukulele and ethereal singing.

But the highlight came from someone special: Johan Jimenez, a 19-year-old staff member who embodies the heart of Rio Perdido. We saw him shine as a waiter, a mixologist at the pool bar, quietly keeping the pool immaculate, and ultimately bringing soul to our private engagement dinner. Bright, kind, and endlessly versatile, Johan is a treasure.

Kudos to Rio Perdido for giving us not just a stay, but a memory we’ll carry forever.

This hotel was definitely 5 star. Dinner was good. Breakfast was ok. Bed was a little hard but room was beautiful with floor to ceiling windows with a view of the jungle. We only stayed one night didn’t see any monkeys but heard howler monkeys yelling. Hot springs were amazing! Except it could use some lighting down there for night time they are open until 8 but it gets dark at 6. Staff was top notch!!!

Our cabin/room was so cool. Plenty big enough for 4 people. All the food and drinks were amazing! The property is huge and beautiful. We enjoyed hiking all around it. The thermal river is incredible with warm spots and Hot spots. The water was so beautiful. The zip lines and river tubing were so fun! The people that work there are so friendly and kind. Rio Perdido: Solo Trip Approved!

Rio Perdido was a great choice for my first time solo trip! The highlights were: staff were attentive and well-trained, they present a plethora of activities to participate in, and the meals were, fresh, nutritious & tasty. As a first time solo traveler, I had privacy and appropriate camaraderie from the RP Team. Daniela was a complete jewel as she was very attentive and knowledgeable of the campus and surrounding area. Johan was an amazing server with a cheerful demeanor who made dinner time enjoyable. Oscar was skilled and polite as he gave perfect instructions and carefully guided us through a memorable canyoning adventure- the ziplining is an unforgettable time and very well planned. The bungalows are full of character; I had the pleasure of experiencing two- east and center. The east bungalow is the smaller space, but the hammocks were a joy to have readily available on the patio area. The center bungalows are the upgrade for sure regarding space & amenities. I absolutely adored the private outdoor shower space- it felt like bathing under an open heaven in the jungle- I must have bathed three times a day just to enjoy the splendor of it all. The bungalows felt very private, which was a plus as well. The pool area and swim up bar were fantastic, & the menu was wonderful. My massage was PERFECT! The entire experience was amazing to be in the heart of the jungle while still experiencing luxury. It was like capturing a little glimpse of heaven. A must return for sure!

The retreat is pristine. The thermal river is majestic. The facilities are exceptional. Highly recommend.

However. Be advised that the last several miles of the road to the property is very poorly maintained. Although I will still give a 5 star rating, the mattresses are extremely firm, and on day 3 our room had a septic smell that never really went away. I also would not recommend the tubing excursion. It is, for lack of better words, lame... and expensive.

Wow! Just wow! We will definitely be back! This place is inspiring. What a Gem! We had the pleasure of meeting Gabriel the founder and just in the brief encounter I understood why this place is so magical…. It starts with a vision and it becomes a mission! Staff were amazing and it was nice to see a team that worked together and did so happily. No one looked tired or overworked it felt like they felt were proud to work there, they were proud about working for a company that cares about their flora and fauna.

We were fortunate to see the beginning of their garden project and are looking forward to returning to see it finalized.

Our trip to Costa Rica is not over … and I am happy to report I feel re energized both physically and spiritually! Do not miss the opportunity to visit Rio Perdido Hotel!

The resort offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it an ideal choice for anyone seeking peace and tranquility. The thermal pools were a highlight, providing a unique and rejuvenating experience. Additionally, immersing ourselves in the rich Costa Rican culture added an extra layer of enjoyment to our stay.

We indulged in relaxing massages at the spa and savored refreshing drinks at the bar, where Alex and the staff made us feel right at home. Special mention goes to MOD Monica, whose attentiveness and helpfulness enhanced our experience.

Our transportation to the airport was made memorable by Esteban, whose positive energy was contagious. It's evident that owner Gabriel takes great pride in the property, fostering a sense of family among the staff.

One of the best hotel I’ve stayed at!

This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and we couldn’t have picked a better place for the type of vacation we wanted. My wife and I stayed at Rio Perdido in East Bungallow 18 for 7 days. During our stay, we did a lot of hiking, both on site and at near by national parks. If you want to enjoy your hike in nature, I strongly recommend bringing hiking shoes, water bottle or hydration pack and DEET 30 mosquito repellent. We also brought headlamps, which we were glad we did as they keep lighting to a minimum. Obviously, the thermal river is a must do. On-site, we also did the Zipline (amazing!) and got messages at the SPA.
The food was very good, but we were glad we rented a car to explore off-site local food. Off-site we also did a day of white water rafting, which I strongly recommend.
The only warning I can give is that the hotel is secluded, which is what attracted us, but getting to and out of the hotel is not convenient.

The staff and service was impeccable. The spa experience was excellent. Marlene is the best nail technician ever. She gave my mom and I the best manicure and pedicure we have ever had. A few things that would greatly improve this hotel is better lighting in the rooms as it's difficult to see at night. Also, the black paint on the walls is very unattractive. A lighter brighter color would be so much better. The food menu could be more diverse and have more casual options. Overall ,our experience was still excellent and we hope to return. Thank you Rio Perdido.

I am a Mexican national residing in the US and travel two to three times per year, however, I have never encountered such good customer service. To say the staff was \"excellent\" at their work is an understatement. They make you feel at home, from the hostess, the concierge, the drivers, waiters, masseuse, bartender, etc. They go above and beyond. The place is a piece of paradise on earth. The only things to keep in mind when coming is that the hotel is remote, at least one hour from the Liberia airport depending on traffic. There is a lot to do at the facility, like tubing, hiking, hot springs, pool, massages. The hikes are strenuous, the hot springs are HOT, and the massages are amazing. The menu is the same throughout the week with the daily special plates, which are all delicious. They have an in-house chef and baker that can work with your requests, I had a cake made for my wife on her birthday and it was amazing. I have nothing but amazing things to say about the \"tocó\" people. Fell in love with this country!

The ultimate glamping experience of my life. The private mini house was amazing and super comfortable, quiet, clean.. couldn’t have asked for more on that. The river is close so you can access everything within walking. The hanging bridge was fabulous. We did the zip line and it was a must do experience, super fun and super safe. The men who operate it are meticulous about safety while also being fun and funny. The pools were nothing too fantastic but nice. Free breakfast was excellent. Would highly recommend.

I wanted to give my Dad a nice 2 day getaway, and Rio Perdido was amazing. From the staff to the property, everything was perfect. The rooms were eco design, and the bedding, just amazing comfort! The restaurant's food was excellent and they catered to our dietary needs (vegan) with ease. The property is big, so it never felt crowded and we couldn't believe we had the natural hot spring river to ourselves as well as rarely saw anyone on the well kept trails. I am definitely returning and would like to plan one of my retreats here as it felt exactly like your own slice of paradise.

I wish I was writing this review under a different circumstances.
After driving 3 hours with my wife and two children(10 years and 7 y 9 months) and talking about warm spring, and planning our stay at Rio, it was disappointing to face Jonathan, the manger.
As soon as we entered the reception area, you could feel the disappointment in staff’s faces. They came up with 8 age policy at the check in.

We didn’t see the welcome you expect at the check in!
Jonathan’s mind was set not to check us in.
Despite Jonathon’s failed efforts and doing research online trying to find ‘under 8 year old not allowed’ policy, he refused to check us in.

After contacting Expedia , Expedia representative said they should have checked you in because their policy states CHILDREN ARE WELCOME And there is no talk of age. And now after this incident, they changed their policy on Expedia.

Anyway , we had to deal with crying children, their disappointment and their anxiety of where are we going to sleep tonight.
So , one could image what my rating for this hotel would be.

Amazing place! Exceptional service. Great food and beverages. Tubing, hiking, outdoor yoga on the cliffs, thermal pools, wildlife. They treat guests like adults here too, refreshing. You want to go swim in the thermal river at 1am? Ok, use the flashlight in the room and enjoy. Hike all around the hundreds of acres by yourselves? Have fun. The guides for hiking, tubing, and yoga instructor were excellent too. Super memorable trip.

Rio Perdido Hotel is a gem . Food, drinks, employees all exceptional. We stayed 4 nights and listened to the birds and watched the holler monkeys. You can be as active as youd like or relax under the tree canopy at the 3 pools even if its raining you wont get wet. Lots of board games for families and active sports can be booked in advance. We will be returning.

We had an amazing trip and will definitely come back again! The facilities were beautiful and well-kept, the staff was friendly and courteous, and the views were stunning. There were plenty of ways to relax or have an adventure, depending on what suited you.

Best Resort Experience

Excellent place to be in luxury, outside, in the terrain of Costa Rica, all with outstanding green and nature all around. And it's all served up with one of best staff experience this travel has experienced in my 50 years of travel! Simply outstanding on every level!

The property is beautiful and lots of cool places, but there is not much sunshine anywhere. The shade is nice to have, but it would be better to have sunny areas especially by the pool. I would strongly recommend cutting back all the trees around the pool.
The room was also very \"Zen\" which some people might like, but for us it felt gloomy. Everything was black and there was very little lighting in the room.
Great place for 1-2 nights, but I dont think I would stay longer than that.

We had an amazing stay here. The center queen bungalow is super chic and peaceful. The staff was super interactive and personal and the activities were fabulous. We saw a ton of howlers, armadillos, white faced monkeys, and more. At first when it was super hot the pools were too hot but the next day they cooled down (they are thermal too). Would be good if they had a cold pool too. Zip lining through the canyon was beautiful and different from other zip lines where you are above (a super cool experience). We went in the hot season and would love to see it in a more mild season. The thermal river was super pretty and the howlers were above us. The mud is stinky but do it- it really makes your skin smooth. Wonderful staff and stay!

Probably one of the top 5 hotels I have stayed at in the WORLD. The design of the hotel, immersed in nature, is just so lovely. The hotel grounds is just unbelievably breathtaking--from the viewing deck, to the natural thermal pools, to the hotel pools. The canyon adventure is special, it's not just a regular zipline course. The staff members were all welcoming. They also have this special hibiscus drink that I keep ordering, it was so good. The menu though felt basic (very catered to tourists), so 2 nights were just enough. But I would love to come back! Everyone should atleast try to experience this when they are in Costa Rica.

BEST TRIP EVER!

Our stay was incredible. Everyone was so incredible, warm, and welcoming! If you go to the restaurant, ask for Johan! He’s so amazing. The food at the restaurant is superb and the activities are all on site. This place is a must visit!!!

Stunning property with incredible staff. Unlike anything I have seen before. The views from the restaurant are amazing and the poolside bar is a thing of beauty. Food was excellent and the zipline, hiking and tubing very nice. Everyone that we met (staff & guests) were very nice, can't recommend it highly enough. Perfect for a 3-4 day get away.

Resort Fun!

This place was amazing we had and excellent three nights! Pools are natural water from the hot springs. There is access to the thermal river itself. The Zip line activity was Superb! Service was excellent and the staff was very helpful!

Lost river luxury

We had an amazing time. Very friendly staff. Rooms were immaculate and comfortable. Food and drinks were great. Wide range of activities - tubing, hiking, mountain biking, adventure ropes/zip line, yoga and spa. Only complaint was massage at spa. Paid for a 50 mins massage and got 40. Would return in a heartbeat! Lots of wildlife - howler and capuchin monkeys everywhere! Beautiful spot!

Everyone was wonderful. We were treated like kings and queens. Food was wonderful and service was wonderful.
The only thing I wish we had more breeze. It was hot but that is the climate there. Absolutely beautiful.
