Very peaceful and stunning architecture old/ new

Beutiful setting, loved the lit up bridge over to the entrance. Room spacious boutique styling nod to Roma times. We had a wonderful breakfast which due to covid not buffet but pre ordered what you would like from list, in a lovly modern restaurant with views, The bar again modern styling but fitting in its original structure.
Infoor Pool need a pool cap which are available at reception. Lovely pool due covid jacuzzi section and saunas were not available. But didbt mind nust happy to have the pool to myself.
Would definitely stay again, there are go karts bikes and tandem bike can hire. And the resturant was closed but we walked to the penela centre for tea. Theres also a steak restaurant near there too.

Hotel muito bonito, mas espaços exteriores muito mal aproveitados, piscina exterior muito pequena num espaço muito grande com possibilidade de um piscina bem maior, num espaço cheio de relva á volta, mal tratada pois não é indicada para estender a toalha, desconfortável para andar descalço sujeito a magoar os pés. Staff extremamente simpático e profissional numa gestão que deixa a desejar. Marca-mos jantar para as 21h15 e só nos sentaram às 22h, desculpa da atualidade o COVID, serve para tudo agora. Mas acaba-mos por ser bem servidos pela excelente equipa que serve na restauração, parabéns a eles. Não tenciono voltar.

We were the last guests before the hotel closed due to the coronavirus situation. They looked after us right to the end and were very kind, attentive, and professional. the staff here are amazing, really friendly and helpful. The hotel has a nice but small spa area with an indoor and outdoor pool. Breakfast is simple but more than enough. I would definitely recommend tis hotel for a relaxing stay.

Superb find

This is a hidden gem of an hotel in Penela. Looks nothing from the outside though it’s setting near the forest and stream is beautiful. Inside it’s ultra modern and very comfortable. Spa and pool areas great. Though inside pool noisy with children when we visited the outside pool was serene. Dinner at night was an special BBQ event with live music - excellent evening and a lovely surprise!

Staff nice but not well managed. Lack in a real management as it's very unorganised. Not enough breakfast sitting for the amount of guests. Guests wait too long to be seated for breakfast. Poor breakfast. Thinks run out at breakfast and you have to chase it and still take to long to arrive ( ex. Hot water for tea, cheese , fruit , etc) which you don't want anymore when it finally comes. You have to wait forever to order a drink at the bar ( paying bar at eve) wait to get it and even chase the guy to pay for! Indoor swimming pool it's not enough for the amount of guest. It feels like a jacuzzi rather then pool. There is only 7 chairs and not place to leave your stuff ( ppl left on the floor and got stepped on it) and small kids can swim without swimming nappies ( so weewee is guaranteed! Woohoo) . No information in what to do , etc. .
Not enjoyable experience. The owner wants to bite more than he can chew!

Yes! Si! Oui! Fabulous in Any Language!!

This hotel exceeded my expectations again and again! The staff all spoke some English, were polite and patient with my lack of Portuguese. The in room robes and large towels were exceeded only by the super comfortable bed and spacious room. The swimming pool, Turkish Bath and Sauna were terrific. Overall, quiet and relaxing! We had a lovely dinner, too!!

Great Hotel, Even better Massage SPA

We've spent a magnificent weekend for whom was looking for relax. The open access SPA has what it is enough for some short stay relaxing moments. We've tried the side-by-side massage and it was absolutely magnificent. We'll definitely come back, not only for the hotel and SPA, but also for to have those magnificent hands again in our backs and necks.

Beautiful exterior, pool, lawns, nice stream.

While the facility is relatively new and in good shape, it is rather overdone in terms of the decor's inexorable focus on grey, black , white, and only modern, ultra abstract objects. Rather unrelenting, and therefore not interesting.
The bed was fine. Weirdly, however, the lights to the two sides of the bed were around 25 watts, making it impossible to read to them, and requiring that the entire room lights, the only other source of light, be turned on to read. So your choices were a million watts, or 25, and nothing in between. The shower was luxurious, but there was absolutely no place to put even a bar of soap, shampoo, anything at all. So everything goes on the floor of the shower. The food in the restaurant is excellent and we came back for that, even after gratefully checking out. The staff are polite, helpful and lovely.

We found the hotel sadly lacking. Breakfast staff made no communication. Little choice in the meal menus. As a vegetarian I had no choice - so we ate out. Tbf I didn't bother to ask as to options as the ambiance wasn't overly inviting. Got a little better on Friday night with s change iof staff. Given the funding the organisation were given to resurrect the previously beautiful old building it seems a sad waste. Tacky plastic chairs, and general furnishings added to waste water not flowing from the basins and bath. Wouldn't bother again.

We didnt use the spa so cant comment on that.
Used the restaurant once and was disapointed that there was no chicken or pasta meals availlable.
Be aware, if its important to you there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room....Strange!
But overall a good stay.

We were greeted by two very friendly receptionist who did the utmost to provide us with a room in spite of our being too early to check in. We had just planned on checking the place over, finding more information about the location of the attractions in the area. We were provided with a small pamphlet on all the interesting places to see as well as information on how to get entrance tickets. It was great all around.

Nice area for visiting surrounding attractions. Very quiet area and short drive if you need supplies in Penela. Restaurant had very reasonable meals and breakfast in the morning had a good assortment between hot and cold, fruit, cheese, cold meats, etc. Need a car but worth staying as you will get a nice quiet sleep.

Air Conditioning

I spent 2 nights at HD Duecitania, between the 19th Oct and 21st Oct. On my second day the room during the evening was very warm.

That morning of the 20th i intentionally left the air conditioning ON in an attempt to cool the room, after a long day i returned to my room and the air conditioning appeared to have failed and consequently the temperature in the room was 28.2oc (reference to the air con unit), i opened a window and tried to manage the warm air but it wasn't effective. I spoken with the reception and they told me to shut down the unit because air conditioning wasn't switched on during this season!!! I asked what they could do about the room because i would not sleep in such a hot room. They told me that they would send a unit up to cool the room.

Five minutes later there was a knock at my room door, services has brought what appeared to be a ceramic fan heater. when i switched the unit on it in fact was a ceramic heated, i was very disappointed as i was expecting a portable air conditioning unit. I spent the next 6 hours watching the temperature fall from its height to 24.5 at 10pm. I was to check out at 03:30 as i had a flight at 07:35. I did not sleep and was very angry.

I would consider carefully before staying in this hotel again, it was advertised as having air conditioning!! as this was the reason mainly for my stay.

A spa day, we were staying 20km away from Penela. No treatments were available as it was Sunday, disappointing. The food was very ordinary, and not enough waitresses, so slow to appear. The one waitress coped as well as she could with a full restaurant. Three of the five meat mains were unavailable. The hotel and grounds are lovely, and improved food and service would make it a very nice stay.

Amazing stay in Penela

We ordered the hotel because it looked beautiful and restful. And it didn´t disappoint us. While it was a bit out of the way, it had all the facilities of a 5 star hotel including the restaurant which we enjoyed. The breakfast was great, massage very good. We were at the hotel which was fully booked with lots of families. We could hear the
children next door but they slept early so all was well. We visited the nearby market and bought the outstanding cheese from Penela which is served at dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Great boutique hotel with a modern Roman theme!

I loved staying here! The hotel is situated right next to a stream, so as you cross the bridge to enter the hotel, you are immediately relaxed by the sound of running water, chirping birds and singing crickets. Getting back to nature, getting back to a more relaxed time. The rooms are big with spacious bathrooms. Each room is different with carpets and Latin sayings on the wall differing - loved this extra effort! It's a modern take on ancient Roman symbols - which I really appreciated since I love touring old Roman Ruins and sites. We went to Conimbriga which is a 15-20 minute drive away - one of the biggest Roman Ruins (it was a city under Roman control for over 400 years) with the most intact, in-situ floor tile mosaics I have ever seen! Back to the hotel - nice breakfasts and FANTASTIC dinner. I had a veggie salad and couscous - delicious!!! Dessert was the chocolate cake - yum!!! Plus some of my friend's mint ice cream crepes - so fresh. Our waiters were excellent and so attuned to our needs. I would totally stay here again!

Right in the middle of everything

I booked this hotel because we were looking for something affordable, quiet and near things we wanted to see and visit. This was the best surprise of our vacation. The room was modern and very comfortable. We booked a double on the top floor, and we're right at the end of the building so we had views out two sides. The linens were very nice; definitely a step above the typical large chain hotels. The staff are very willing to help and provide advice of things to do and see. The hotel is close to two toll highways, so you can easily get to Lisbon or Porto within a couple hours. The buffet breakfast is good, and if you're there on the weekend, they typically have crepes with chocolate sauce - very good crepes and dark chocolate sauce. There are a few restaurants in nearby Penela, but after our first dinner meal at the hotel, we didn't bother eating anywhere else. The evening dining staff are amazing. We've eaten at top restaurants around the world, and Gustatio could give many of them a run for their money. Honestly, do not miss an opportunity to dine here. The staff enjoys preparing great dishes and can make excellent wine recommendations to accompany the dishes.

Bom quarto espaçoso, tranquilo e no meio da natureza. Uma nota que não me agradou pelo facto de ter ido com um casal com uma criança e eu ser um casal com duas crianças e uma delas com 2 anos que supostamente é grátis abaixo dos 3 anos e tive de pagar a mais 30€ pelas duas noites que estive. O quadro do casal amigo tinha uma cama extra e o berço cabia muito bem.

Un très bel accueil chaleureux. Une belle grandeur de chambre, de salle de bain et avec une très bonne literie. Stationnement facile et gratuit sur le site. Nous avons bien aimé le bain turc, le sauna et la piscine intérieure ( serviette, pantoufle et peignoir sont fournit). Le petit déjeuner est excellent, les petites crêpes sont délicieuses. Le restaurant à la carte de l'hôtel c'est très bien, nous y avons souper 4 soirs (bon service, bon choix et le prix est raisonnable). L'hôtel est dans un environnement de nature, c'est donc très calme et agréable. Géographiquement, c'est parfait pour aller découvrir la montagne Louisa, la ville Coimbra et autres. Bref, nous recommandons sans hésiter. Merci à toute l'équipe de l'hôtel pour leur gentillesse.

Excelente, superou nossas expectativas. O local é lindo, parece que estamos no meio de um vale. As piscinas são ótimas, tanto a interna como as externas. Área verde muito agradável! Pequeno almoço muito bom, assim como o restaurante (buffet) para jantar e o bar, que também serve snacks (pizza, hambúrguer, etc) e tem ótima qualidade (foi o melhor restaurante de hotel de nossa viagem de cerca de 3 semanas) e preço justo. Tem posto de carregamento elétrico e é próximo do centro da cidade de Penela. Voltaremos com certeza!

Hotel com envolvencia agradavel em espaço verde. Tem um riacho a passar no jardim e grande relvado. Piscina interior agradável, a exterior pode melhorar. Falta uma sala de estar.

P.a. muito bom, variado e reposição contínua. Tem uma máquina automática de fazer panquecas que faz sucesso. Máquina de café espresso muito bom.

Quarto agradavel mas um pouco limitado para quem viaja em familia de 4 (2adultos e 2 jovens).
Uma junior suite teria sido a melhor opcao para nós.
A organizacao dos turnos do PA tb nao foi a melhor mas sem culpas para os funcionarios que faziam o que podiam mas eram poucos.
No geral foi bom.

Confortável e com um atendimento maravilhoso

Equipe muito simpática, café da manhã muito bom, muito confortável, piscina interna maravilhosa, comi no Bar um hambúrguer delicioso.
Quando chegamos eu precisei fazer o teste rápido de covid 19 que é obrigatório aqui em Portugal nesse momento para entrar no hotel (ou o certificado digital) fiz sem nenhuma dificuldade já que o sr da equipe do hotel me ajudou a fazer e já estava sabendo como é todos os testes rápidos por isso foi uma experiência sem estresse.
Mas o m asis importante foi ter me sentido muito bem nesse hotel e recomendo para todos!

Apenas achamos que (para um hotel de 4*) o pequeno-almoço devia ter um pouco mais de variedade e produtos frescos (exemplo: café e pão).
De resto nada a apontar.

The hotel is trying to do its best to serve its guest during the Covid-19 pandemic. The services remain active and the facilities operates under social distancing regulations. The rooms are great, bed is cozy and the bathroom is large and well equipped. I would suggest to add a kettle to the rooms to boil water for tea/coffee...but you can ask one for free. Perfect choice if you are in the region.

Excelente hotel p descansar. Apesar de las arañas.

El hotel ya lo conocía y no ha sido sorpresa la arquitectura y el espacio envolvente. Lo que si ha sido una sorpresa es la cantidad de telas de araña que se encuentra allá donde se mire. El último nos hemos encontrado una araña que contando con las patas tendría unos 10cm de diámetro. A mi pareja le dan pánico las arañas y ya no se ha vuelto a sentir cómoda en el dormitorio. Si bien que en los espacios exteriores de difícil acceso cómo techos o ventanas altas es comprensible dado el entorno del edificio, en las habitaciones debería existir un mayor control de plagas.

Estadia muito agradável. Quarto e wc muito espaçosos, com imensa luz natural.
Muitos cuidados de higienização relacionados com a COVID-19.
Piscina interior muito agradável com marcação prévia de hora e muita organização para respeitar a lotação máxima.

Derivado ao mau tempo o hotel ficou sem energia elétrica e como tal ficamos apenas com as luzes emergência por bastante tempo..
Questiono o porquê de num hotel requintado não existir um gerador para culmatar esses inopinados..
