We stayed for one night in transit between destinations. The waitress at dinner was welcoming and provided great service, but all other staff we encountered were indifferent to our presence. The hotel seemed to cater only to a large tour group there that night, and our room was dated and uncomfortable. We won’t be returning.

Superb day in Coimbra

I got the room with the bonus day. We arrived late at night and as a surprise were upgraded to a corner suite with wraparound balcony!! Great free breakfast in a salon with a wonderful view of the old town. Took the hotel free shuttle to the lower part of old town. Back with the last shuttle by 9 30 pm. Great friendly service and superb accomodations.

Stayed one night in this hotel with my husband and small daughter. The hotel really could use an update. I am sure that the staff is doing their best, but the room could have been cleaner. Also the soundproofing could use an update.. The breakfast was ok, but nothing out of ordinary. Pastel de natas would be a nice addition ;)

An over night stay. This is a large modernist hotel, some of the room fittings are just starting to show their age although this did not spoil our stay. We had an evening meal at the restaurant which was fantastic. All the staff were very helpful. There is free parking and WiFi and the hotel was easy to find. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We chose this hotel because their Expedia led with \"free shuttle into Coimbra\" but don't count on using it!!! you MUST book the shuttle AT LEAST one hour in advance of the few times it is actually scheduled to run. \"Front desk girl told us No exceptions\" That's not just for availability of getting 1 of the 5 seats on it, that's to actually book getting it to run. And the last run back to hotel is pretty early.) Better to stay IN Counbra. Taxi cost us 6€ each way. No walkway into Coimbra, it's all highway. We checked into hotel 30 minutes before shuttle was scheduled to depart but since no one else had booked the shuttle, there Was No shuttle! Otherwise, decent hotel.

I have stayed in this hotel quite a few times and its is always great value. The rooms, the mattress quality and especially the restaurant are brilliant - won't get better at this price. Its is very spacious and lots of common areas to relax in. However time, when I arrived I parked next to another car and headed into the reception area. Halfway up the steps, some overweight guy with a moustache like an army general from the reception poked his head out of the window and started yelling in Portuguese - telling me to move my car. I was really embarrassed in front of the other patrons standing in front of the hotel. This is NOT the way to greet guests. Why was it so important to tell me this that he could not wait for me to arrive at the reception. He would have saved me a great deal of embarrassment and not damagedthe image of the hotel if he had not shouted at me from the window like an old pimp. Clearly the staff could do with some training in customer service.

We liked our stay very much and the Friendly hotel staff gave us a room on the First fllor with Balcony with a great view over the City! You can reserve a seat on the shuttle bus which will bring you for Free to the City and you can be picked up too (upon availability!)

Built in 1980 and well kept. This appears to be the premier business hotel for the city. Excellent staff and service with a full buffet breakfast in the spacious dining room. Located at the edge of town but you can walk to the pedestrian bridge in 10-15 minutes to reach the riverside restaurants. Plenty of secure parking. We extended our stay.

Overlooking Coimbra

Likely the best hotel in town, busy with the business crowd. Wonderful staff and a great view over Coimbra. The hotel is at the edge of town, about 10-15 minutes from the pedestrian bridge. Once over the bridge you are in the entertainment district, with restaurant bars along the river.
The hotel was built in 1980 and has been updated steadily. The buffet breakfast was excellent. We extended our stay.
Plenty of secure parking available.

Great views vs outdated rooms

Beautiful views of the city but services are limited and rooms are rather outdated. Asked to change my room for one with a balcony and was told there were none available. However there were more than 10 rooms with balconies and only one showed any signs of life. Was willing to pay the difference for the room change and got the feeling that they just didn't feel like they felt like doing the paperwork. The representative didn't even look at his computer after I asked and just answered quickly ''no there is no rooms available''. Overall just OK for one night and nothing more, just be prepared to be underwhelmed.

Hotel was comfortable and of a good standard, staff were pleasant. On arrival by train to Coimbra, I made the mistake of trying to walk (about 20 mins) from the town centre to the hotel. Hotel is off a dual carriage way with no proper footpath, so recommend a taxi.

The hotel itself is fine and a pretty good deal for the price I paid. I arrived via car, but if I hadn't it would have been quite a trek to the heart of town. Having said that, Coimbra was a very sweet little town that surprised me in terms of its charm. Definitely worth spending a day.

Great hotel if you have a car

If you have a car, location is great, no need to worry about parking. It is on the other side of the River from city centre, a short drive to the bridge. We parked the car in the public free parking lot and walked across the bridge. The gate, city centre and University are walking distance from the bridge, but walk uphill, it is a beautiful hilly city.
The breakfast buffet in the hotel was the best, a lot of varieties, restaurant clean and comfortable.
Our room has a nice view of the River, room is clean, bed comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, a very good value.

So much more than we expected for the price. Excellent hotel. Breakfast superb and dinner exceptionaly good. Do not however start on the hors-d'oeuvre which is delivered to every table while waiing for your main course. Although delicious it prooved to be an expensive extra to the ordered food which was very good value.
The walk down to the old city in daylight was very easy and safe, although not all on public footpaths. The reception will show you the path, they all speak good English and are very helpful.. but would recommend a taxi back to the hotel at night after walking the city all day. Not expensive at all. Definatly would return to this hotel, found the distance from the city no problem at all, and the view incredible

Shabby hotel a long way from the centre

The hotel needed refurbishing - my room had a very nasty smell (of urine?). It was a large room which could have been very nice if refurbished. The worst aspect was the location which was a 35 minute walk (I am a fast walker) from the centre, some of which involved walking along the side of the crash barrier of a dual carriageway. There was no public transport so I had to take taxis home when it was dark.

We spent 10 days in Portugal using 5 different places to stay during our trip. This hotel was THE BEST!!! I would strongly recommend it to anyone who want to pay very reasonable money for the very good service. The only thing that was not perfect (but not bad!), is hotel's location: you would have to rent a taxi to go to the historical part of the ciry; however, it wouldn't be too expencive (about $8.00 one way).

This is a very nice modern hotel with good sized, comfortable rooms and efficient service .It is most suitable for those arriving by car as it has plenty of parking. It is not suitable for people arriving by public transport unless they are happy to use a taxi to and from the town. (only about 5 euros). It's situation is not where indicated on the Expedia web-site and can only be accessed along a very fast dual carrige way with no pavement.
The breakfast is superb!

THis hotel is inb the best location for visiting the town if you have a car. The parking is free and although not covered in convenient in front of the hotel, When you drive away to the right is the shopping center and supermarket and to the left free parking to walk across the bridge and enjoy old town. Whee ever you go you can find the hotel across the river and drive there. We had the best room in the hotel with a double bed and large balcony with picnic table and two chairs. Although the hotel offers everything you need it is a bit worn and I would hope would replace the carpets with wood or tile floors. The breakfast was a feast with care of all special diets, much appreciated.

The hotel is clean, rooms are spacious and with good facilities and the hotel has fabulous views of the old town of Coimbra. Restaurant and reception staff service was friendly and efficient. However, the hotel is about 2 miles from the centre of the town and not on a bus route so not good for independent travellers who are not arriving by car and / or who like to sight-see on foot (albeit that taxis to the town centre are very reasonably priced).

The hotel claims to be 2 minutes from the town centre but it took 7-8 minutes even in a taxi. The map of the hotel's location on the hotel's website is misleading, pinpointing the hotel at a location which is actually only about half as far as at it actually is from the town centre.

Had a very enjoyable 4 nights here in October. Plenty of free parking outside. The hotel fronts a pedestrian promenade, so no traffic between hotel and beach. Main entrance is at back, and this is a quiet side roan.
Good room, all clean and functional. Good choice of English language TV channels, eg BBC1. Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable buffet meals for breakfast and dinner.

Very nice terrace facing the sea for drinks, bar food, and watching a great sunset over the sea.

The hotel is fine. NOthing spectacular ... but the price was good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. If you have a car, drive to the arking lots in the same side of the river as this hotel., and walk across the bridge to old town. Very easy to do ... and inexensive parking. I think it was free, actually. No need to take a taxi. Rooms were clean and everything worked well.

Un hôtel traditionnel a proximité des voies rapides. Excellent pour les gens d'affaires, pratique pour les vacanciers en déplacement. Pas de restaurant à proximité mais l'hôtel est doté d'une salle à manger. Le déjeuner de type continental est bien à plusieurs égards mais pas de fruits frais. Nous recommandons pour un séjour de 1 à 2 nuits, particulièrement si vous avez une voiture pour vos déplacements.

Arrivé à l'hôtel, il n'y avait aucune place de parking car il y avait 4 conférences dont une politique,une de médecine et le reste je ne sais pas mais tout était plein jusqu'à passé minuit.

Nous avons pris 2 chambres, l'une d'entre elle sentait fort la moisissure. Nous sommes allés à la réception et sois disant ils n'avaient plus de chambre disponible. Nous avons contacté hotel.com et après 1h, l'hôtel nous propose une autre chambre et il a donc fallu déménager en pijama avec notre fille de 3 ans qui dormait déjà car il était déjà 23h.

De plus l'hôtel était en travaux. Le 1er étage et rien sur hotel.com ne le signaler. Il y avait simplement une affiche dans l'ascenseur qui disait qu'il y avait des travaux et que ça commencerait à 10h. À 9h nous étions au petit déjeuner au rez-de-chaussée et nous entendions déjà les machines.

Je plains les malheureux qui voulait dormir.

O chão do quarto estava muito sujo, as portas a fechar fazem imenso estrondo, pequeno almoço muito fraco, ovos mexidos tinha uma cor estranha, o sumo de laranja mesmo instantâneo só sabia água e açucar, panquecas frias, fruta na maioria de lata.

As camas eram confortáveis e a receção simpática.

Hotel antigo, precisando de reforma! Quarto com bom tamanho, varanda muito agradável e grande! Vista linda para a cidade! Cortinas e sofá com um pouco de cheiro de poeira, mas quarto limpo! Boa cama e banho!
O ponto alto da estadia foi o restaurante do Hotel! Incrível, lindo e com uma das melhores refeições da cidade! Atendimento impecável do divertido Marco, polvo maravilhoso, vinho excelente! Preços muito bons! Realmente um lugar a retornar!
