Great location, but not my hotel

Great staff a check in! My room was hot and it was October! Couldn't open the windows because of a rock concert Across The river. I'm a professional parking in Europe and the parking garage was scary but on the positive side it was right below the university which is why you go to the location.

The hotel was your basic 2 star hotel. The double twin bed room was small and the beds were barely separated. Large construction project was going on in front of the hotel which made accessing the hotel difficult. Hotel location was great in terms of getting to the city sites. Breakfast was good as well.

What brought the ratings down so low? What's the air conditioning system or lack of
It's turned off until a certain time of the year
Which means our room was hot all the time. The temperature of our room at night around ten o'clock would be twenty five twenty six celsius. I measured it
This means we had to leave our window open with all the outside noise and car pollution, and our room door opened. So the air would circulate until the room cooled down enough to go to sleep, which is usually around twelve one o'clock in the morning
If you're going to stay in this hotel and the weather's going to change from hot to cold hot to cold, I would not recommend staying there

The bathroom is quite awkward as the shower room is in the bedroom. The whole room gets wet as no shower curtin provided. Also, the bathroom door gets stuck and not able to close it. This is likely due to the poor set up with no curtins. The toilet room is in the living room which is tiny and no privacy as the doors in the toilet and shower room are very cheap and hollow so noises travel thru them

Solid inexpensive hotel , could use a facelift. The surrounding area is undergoing improvments so you may have construction noise etc for the next 12 months but the location is great - you can walk to everthything - Univ. , Train, Dining and shops .
It's not luxury - but if you are only passing through it's great.

The A/C was not very cold. They did have a sign posted in the room that said it didn't go lower than 24 Celsius (75.2F) My husband commented on it at the front desk and they provided an oscillating fan which helped a little.

This IBIS hotel was a great location ! For the price we paid, it was outstanding value ! We only stayed one night as we did not know how much there was to see in Coimbra but we should have stayed 1 more day before making our way to Lagos. Charming town and the hotel was way above expectation. Staff was super friendly and helpful, room was somewhat basic but very clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was a small extra but was worth the money. Close to shops and restaurants. Parking underground was a nice plus. Would go back for sure, highly recommended !

It must be part and parcel of staying in big hotels, biut our room was serviced only after 14h30 for three consecutive days. The breakfast was sub Ibis standard- the croissants and petit pain au chocolait was stale and tough. There was only a block of marmalade and no other jams. On two occasions there eere no knives and we had to run about to find someone to provide some. The fresh juices were sugary cordials, not fresh and not juice.
We have enjoyed staying in various Ibis Hotels all over the world. This one was disappointing.

Ibis is a short walk to town centre for dining and attractions. Directly opposite is the beautiful riverfront park. Only thinh to be mindful of is the very tight, steep access to the car park. Its a little nervewracking!

Parking is currently unavailable but property still lists parking as a feature. There is private parking available behind the hotel but it is only open until 10:30pm, if you arrive past that time you will have to park further way and walk through a construction zone. This is only informed if you ask, and by that time my reservation was already done and it was non refundable. AC in the room did not work either. Deducted a star for each of these inconveniences.

This is a very budget friendly hotel. Small rooms, poor quality beds and no amenities. Breakfast was cold flare. Limited choices and not worth the 8 euro. It did have parking below ground but had to pay for it and very tricky to navigate! Not the hotels fault but there is road construction right out front so again trick to get to.

This was our second time at this hotel. April 2023 and now (October 2023). The construction in front of the hotel is not a big deal. We just happened to be here during University week, so it was noisy and couldn’t drive to the hotel because the road was closed until 9:00 pm. Then there was a concert from at 2:00 to 5:00 am (yes, am in the morning), so needless to say, we didn’t get much sleep. Moral of the story, don’t stay here if you come during University week (happens twic a year).

We loved the location, just a few minute walk to the main part of old town and just under the university. Part of the road and park in front were under construction so that limited convenient access to the riverfront park (nothing to do with the hotel). We had a Citroen 9 pax van and getting it in/out of the parking garage was VERY nerve racking and do not recommend trying to get a van in or out. Small/medium cars should be no problem. Rooms are very small and difficult to get comfortable with 2 travelers and luggage. Breakfast was typical of the other 6 hotels we stayed in on this trip, not bad, just the same.

A very standard, albeit dated, Ibis property. Do not expect any magic and you won’t be disappointed. The room was very basic but functional; rather clean (though there were crumbs left under the bed and the shower had some old stains). We had a room turned away from the river (with a view of the city), and it was very quiet at night. Wifi works like a charm. My only qualm is the shower - water pressure was very weak.

Air conditioning does not work, cell tower on roof

I can review 2 rooms since I changed room and both rooms have a TERRIBLE problem with their air conditioning system: it does not work. On a very hot day you are better off sitting outside, literally. Room 112 was the worst of the 2 (the air con was making only noise but no cooling) although it was a little larger. Also they need to stop using bleach to clean the toilets because the bleach smell, given that there is no air conditioning, is choking. The beds were comfortable but they were extremely pathetic in giving only 2 skimpy pillows. Room 112 had smelly pillows (you know, when many have slept on them with sweat which needs to be properly washed away) but room 402 did not. Room 112 was also a little dirty (bathroom). Room 402 was all clean. Both rooms gave paper cups (for what? There was no kettle nor coffee maker) but they were NOT sealed, so they looked used. Yuk. In the bathroom you only have 2 thin and small towels, really unacceptable. Room 402 is too small for 2 people while room 112 is slightly larger, but both small. The lady at reception was extremely nice and tried to help, but she could not make miracles of course. Coimbra has several low quality hotels and even the better ones are not as good as in other Portugal towns, considering the price. I stayed in 2 rooms. 402 and 112. 402 was right by their roof cell tower, so I asked to be moved and was given (the following day) room 112, which is below the cell tower (but they both gave me a headache).

The location of the property is good, near the river and the main walking district. The university is also within walking distance. The rooms are very small and not convenient to unpack and store items within reach. The bed was comfortable, and the shower worked well. Breakfast was adequate, and seating was plentiful. Refill of items was handled quickly. Food was average. Elevators worked as expected and were suitable in size. The parking garage was difficult to get around, very tight corners, and emerging onto a very busy street, plus the exit was one a significant hill, making in and out difficult. Overall, I rate our stay as average.

A nice hotel in easy walking distance from the university and UNESCO attractions there, as well as fado performances. A small room, very cramped for 2 single beds and 2 people. The parking underground is very tight, I would to have wanted to drive anything but a very small car into there and out of there. On street parking nearby but you have to pay for daytime parking. Nice people at hotel and good breakfast.

Very nice, basic hotel. No frills (have to buy water at front desk, none provided, only two towels plus extra in the closet, no hand towels, only two pillows plus extra in the closet). Lots of power outlets, great food in the café, staff was very nice and friendly, clean and well maintained. Very comfortable bed for a good night sleep after all the amazing hill climbing to explore the city. Location by the river would have been great except for all the construction happening across the street (not the hotel’s fault).

I’m pretty familiar with the Ibis concept, so my poor review has nothing to do with the size of the room or lack of amenities. The hotel is just old, in dare need of renovations. The bathroom was disgusting, stains all over the floor and misplaced ceiling tiles that made me wonder what could fall through the gaps. Towels thinner than the cleaning rags at my house. Fellow tourist… go ahead and spend the extra $15 to stay somewhere else.
