This was an excellent location near activities and the local college. If you are able to walk without limitations, most things were within a 30 minutes walk. The only times I used Uber or Bolt was from the train station to the hotel. The breakfast was good and tasty.

The Luggage is a beautiful property however my family of 4 adults was assigned to stay at the attic so the ceiling is an angled rooftop the beds are underneath you can easily bump your head anytime. Uncomfortable beds specifically bumpy pillows need an upgrade. Had difficulty carrying our luggage up n down the room no elevator. Otherwise good breakfast with fresh fruits, walk to University, parked our luggage after checkout. Glad we only have to stay for one night.
I’ll give it a rating of 3.5.

The location is about 10-15 minutes walk to the university. It is a very slight hill going up, but not too bad. The room and bathroom are very spacious! Staff are friendly. Breakfast (10€/person) is good. Beautiful view from back balcony of the hotel.

Very friendly and good service. we got a separate apartment (separate from the main building). we had booked a room with 2 twin beds and a queen bed, but got queen bed with sofa bed (that spit and slept 2). this was not adequate for 2 adult kids, so manager gave us the 3rd floor room in the main bldg which was better. however, for 3/4 tall people there was not enough head room. otherwise, all was pleasant. breakfast pretty good. location excellent.

The hotel itself is nice. In a older building but in good condition. We found the staff friendly and willing to offer advice. The downside is there is no dedicated parking. We had to find parking on a near by side street which was not optimal. Also the hotel is not within easy walking distance so an uber will probably be neccessary

My room was very clean and comfortable and had everything I needed. I particularly liked the breakfast room and the breakfast they had which was about €10 and very much worth it. The breakfast room is sunny and has a view that is so lovely. The neighborhood is great and very close to the university. I thought the staff was very nice and accommodating. They were good hosts.

Also it is on a hilly road. That was difficult to walk.

I will start by saying we try to avoid chain hotels and stay local. I do not understand the positive reviews for this hotel. This was the worst hotel of the 7 we stayed in during our 2 weeks in Portugal. It was musty, moldy, and dirty. The room smelled of sewage in the middle of the night. There was also black mold in the shower. The common areas also smelled musty. Dehumidifiers would be a great addition.

There was also an annual parade for the students that prevented parking and caused most of the local restaurants to be close for the night. The parade never came up during any of our research. However the hotel emailed the morning of our check in suggesting that we wait until after 6 pm to arrive at the hotel because it was not accessible due to road closures and no parking anywhere in the city (it took until 9pm for the parking to clear out) Parking at the hotel was forbidden. The hotel waited until we could no longer cancel to inform us that it would take hours to find parking and we would be trapped in our room for the evening because trying to walk the streets with thousands of drunken students to find an open restaurant after the parking fiasco seemed like more than we wanted.

This entire hotel experience felt like a bait and switch. Buyer beware what you see is, in fact, not what you get. Stay in a real hotel

We stayed 2 nights in Superior double room. Located on top of a hill, away from action. Room size is ok but lacking in a lot of necessities, no luggage rack, no clothes hangers, no Kleenex tissues. Has to climb 5 steps to the bathroom. Mirror in bathroom is at a very awkward position. The price is fair for this basic room

We loved loved the building and our room was great - had the best view and was so spacious especially after coming from Lisbon where our hotel room was tiny!
Breakfast was great as well - all in was fantastic value for money.
It is just a bit far to hike into the old town but ww had anticipated it would be a very active holiday so didn't ind the walk.
Dining is definitely lacking around the area so we would suggest dining in town before getting back to hotel.

Beautiful Boutique Hotel in Magical Sintra

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely boutique hotel. It's beautifully decorated with a unique updated traditional style. The staff went out of their way to answer questions and make sure our stay was comfortable. One point to be aware of is the parking they provide is at a sister property a ways away and can make luggage drop off and pick up a bit complicated. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here (and the amazing breakfast) and wished we could have stayed longer!

The Luggage is a heritage building with tons of character. We were escorted in by Tony and quickly checked in and shown our room. It was awesome tons of windows, so clean and spacious BEAUTIFUL!! The staff were great, friendly and helpful. Breakfast great and bountiful.

Very close to the university, so lots of young people around the area. restaurants close by or a quick Uber/Bolt away.

Saturday night (only night) very loud music from 10-1:30 and we were not a fan of it but kids!!

This historic building-turned-inn is terrific. It has been remodeled with all the modern conveniences while maintaining all of its old world charm. Suites are large with immensely high ceilings and huge bathrooms, common seating areas abound, the buffet breakfast is delicious, and it's within walking distance to the historic Coimbra university and botanical gardens. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Worst night of our vacation.

The apartment was not as described. It had no utensils, no dishes and no cooking equipment. There was no coffee maker or hot water heater. The young woman in charge made an excuse about it and did not offer any retribution. I had to walk out in the rain to the front of the building and ask for a coffee mug so I could heat water in the microwave for my own tea bag. The was no internet either. Also the shades did not work - some were stuck in the down position and others in the up position. The woman told us the people before us must have broken them.

The building is amazing and a short distance from the student centre, away from the touristy downtown area. Walking distance to the beautiful botanical gardens and university, with plenty of great bars surrounding the Placa de Republica. The free breakfast was incredible!

We liked the cosy feeling of The Luggage (even though the name doesn’t convey cosy!). It is reasonably priced although we found out we would have received the 15% winter discount if we had booked with them directly — disappointed this wasn’t passed on by Hotels.com. Our room for 2 nights was a double on the top (2nd floor) with a private bathroom in the hall, meaning a bathroom dedicated to our room with us holding the key. This setup was less convenient than a bathroom in the room but was okay, and there was only one other room on this floor with its own outside bathroom. The hotel / hostel is well located, just at a short walk to Coimbra centre and the Universty. We also appreciated the off-street parking. And finally, the complimentary breakfast is really quite good. The Luggage would definitely be our choice for a return visit to Coimbra.

If you’re looking for something different for a change, this place would be a pleasant staff. The staff could not be more pleasant and service oriented. A few reasons for not giving 5 on 5 are lack of shelve in shower to place soap and shampoos. Cleanliness in bedroom could have been slightly better, but no major issues. A bit of a walk to restaurants and shops. Tv channel options were good and wi fi was excellent. No elevator. Overall, a very charming place.

The Personnel was warm, welcoming, and helpful. However the contracted room was on the third floor and had an external bathroom so they strongly suggested that we take a second floor room. Since there is no elevator and minimal help getting in and out, we agreed to take the much more comfortable and spacious room. However it did cost 91 Euros instead of the 49 we expected. We found it difficult to get around from this residential location, but taxes are inexpensive and available. Buffet breakfast was excellent and again the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Great Stay in a beautiful hostel.

My stay at the Luggage Hotel was great. It's a beautiful house near restaurants, the university and town. I stayed for three nights and was most impressed by the professionalism of the staff, cleanliness of the hostel and its location.. The beds were very comfotable and the lockers were spacious. and the breakfast was very good wilt lots of choices. I was given a good map on arrival and the staff made recommendations of places to visit and things to do. I attended the Fado concert and it was wonderful!

What a beautiful, historical home. Did NOT feel like a hostel. So peaceful, a 20 minute walk to the center of town but that was what made it so lovely. It was up in the hill and overlooked the city. The staff was warm and inviting . The decor made it feel like I was living near in the 40s. Breakfast was wonderful. Just tremendous.. Best stay in Portugal yet!!!

By far the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in. My double room was gorgeous (and looked like a room in a boutique luxury hotel) as were all the public spaces. Amazing breakfast as well. An absolutely wonderful place to stay at a very low price.

Coimbra's finest hostel

Located in a quiet neighbourhood on top of a hill, this elegant place is a perfect place to unwind after a long day of exploring Coimbra. Check-in was efficient, & the staff explained to me where all the major attractions are. The main attraction - the old University is only like a 5-10 min walk away. The dorm was very clean & bed was comfy. Every bed has a charging outlet & reading light. Showers & toilets are seperated into 2 sections but next to each other. The best part however is the breakfast, which has variety of food that most hostels do not offer. Highly recommended !

Our room was very large, and the bathroom was as large as some rooms we've had. The room had a lot of character, and the helpful host told us about the local sights.
The only inconvenience was the lack of any shelves in the shower. If we're ever in Coimbra again we'll try to stay at the Luggage Hostel & Hotel.

A great place for an overnight stay in Coimbra

We found the hostel to be warm and friendly. Newly and beautifully renovated, the property sparkles. The host is gracious and very helpful in all matters. A delicious breakfast (including eggs) awaited us in the morning. We found it a little noisy at night as it is not too far from a central square which was full of students celebrating the start of school but even that was charming.

Great recently opened new place (former building of secret policy as well as a health facility). One of the owners, Pedro, gave us the tour and also has a great restaurant recommendation.

Hostel is nicely renovated and decorated. Solid free breakfast, too. Parking outside no problem.
