Convenient - it’s physically inside the airport gates. Check out was at 10:00. If your flight is in the evening they have you check out and store your bags at reception; you can remain on the grounds by the pool or in the restaurant or bar while waiting. The gift shop is great if you’ve not been able to find a souvenir for someone before departing.

Wifi was not working in the room due to some problem. Had to go to the bar to connect to wifi which was spotty. Very old furnishings, poor bathroom facilities and non-smoking staff except Teresia (so?). The hotel manager was unapologetic about the wifi issue and did not offer any other amenities to compensate. Very poor standard for a hotel that charges almost $200 USD per night.

Great airport lodge!!

We loved Kia Lodge! It is not your average airport hotel - the grounds are beautiful and the rooms are really nice. The staff was super friendly and the food was good. Only issue was that there was no wifi in the rooms. Other than that our stay was great. Would definitely recommend!

Great quiet location

Very easy checkin and beautiful property. There was no way to contact the hotel to organize for the free shuttle. It is a 5min drive. None of the posted numbers work and there are no email addresses. It would be nice for the hotel to offer free shuttles if hotels.com is going to post that service on the booking site. Thanks!

KIA Lodge Review

The check in was very quick. The rooms were comfortable, beds good, excellent A/C. Good shower, plenty of hot water. The cottages are in the middle of a wooded area - that was great. Good view of Mt.Kilamanjaro if you see it right around sun up. The food was good. Free ride to JRO airport which is not even a mile away. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The landscaping and the rooms were really nice. The staff was friendly. I would say that by American standards, the food was o.k. By Tanzanian standards it was good. The pool water was a little green for me, but the view of Kilimanjaro was excellent.

Horrible experience

The worst experience I ever had in a lodge. We prepaid 215$ for 2 people to stay our last night in Tanzania. Upon arrival they wanted us to pay an extra 73$ for the 2 bedroom I already paid for because my father was with me. This place is not worth 50$ a night. The AC was broken, wifi worked for about 10 minutes, the food was awful and we were treated so rudely. So rude in fact we could not stand another minute so we left and stayed at the airport for 14 hours waiting for our flight instead of staying at Kia lodge. After over a month of great lodges all over Tanzania we ended on such a horrible note at this lodge.

Although we emailed the resort through expedia for shuttle pick up and gave our arrival details that were confirmed, there was no shuttle when we arrived. The telephone number to the resort does not work. The room was very basic. The air conditioning was not working properly. The room was very hot. The fan and the phone did not work. The electricity was going on and off. The beds are hard as a rock and the pillows terrible. The only good thing was the staff who were very friendly.

Great hotel close to Kilimanjaro Intl Airport

Picked this hotel for its proximity to Kilimanjaro International airport. The hotel was fantastic for an airport hotel. Service was excellent , the staff couldn’t do enough to help. The rooms are also very comfortable and the hotels facilities and views of Mt Kilimanjaro are a real bonus. Definitely recommend if you need to be close to Tye airport for an early flight!

BEWARE !\nDon’t waste your time and money

If you are going in a vacation, this is NOT the place.
It was total disappointment.
1- Staff is unfamiliar with online booking check in procedures and as a result I had to wait for 2 hours until they could check me in.
2- finally after check in I had to wait another 2 hours waiting for my room to be cleaned.
3- the biggest surprise, the room amenities are not as described in Expedia, the room is NOT air conditioned and it was very hot at night with no wind, it was a miserable night.
4- Dinner, very limited options and tastless food.
5- Brakefast, very poor selections and honestly the food looked disgusting.
6- Flies and mosquitoes everywhere in the resturant.
7- Personal hygiene of restaurant staff, you can smell very strong sweat from far distance and the smell stays in the air as they pass by, I am very sorry to say it but that was really disgusting.
8- low water pressure in the bathroom and unstable hot water.
9- Unstable electric power with frequent outage reported by the hotel staff.

Finally, if you are not happy and you decide to leave, guess what? The hotel will NOT approve any refund and Expedia will NOT help.
You simply lose your money.

Beautiful and ideal for an airport stay. The amenities aren't anything special and avoid the massage. Not only will they majorly cheat you on time (1hr=48 minutes), it's a pretty lousy massage. The service at the massage is very good and the receptionists are wonderful. Also, even though I left at 2am they made a breakfast box for me. Also, they are prompt on wake up calls and quick on the airport shuttle. Good stay.

Wonderful relaxing stay

From the complementary pickup at the airport (two different times as my colleague and I were on different flights) to the check-in and the rooms, everything was excellent. We had a delightful dinner meal in the restaurant and breakfast the next day was very good as well. The room was most comfortable (outstanding mattress) and clean. As we walked around the grounds the staff were both friendly and helpful.

Good hotel close to the airport with a 24 hour shuttle. Good dinner and they packed a breakfast for our early morning flight. Swimming pool not large and had something swimming under water. Views of Kilimanjaro from the pol area are wonderful. Little noise from the airport.

The staff here are fantastic, friendly snd helpful. The rooms are very basic and facilities in them limited for the price you pay. The restraunt, bar and pool are lovely but again everything is expensive in relation to the Tanzanian rates.

The most annoying part of the experience is not being sble to contact the hotel directly as all numbers listed were disconnected. You also have to pay airport rates to park your car if you stay.

This hotel is perfect for those looking for a quick one night stay either before or after venturing to the Serengeti or Kilimijaro. The grounds are very cool and the staff is extremely friendly! It has very easy access to the airport and welcoming facilities. The water pressure in the shower is the only negative at this place and if they can fix that then I would give it a perfect rating. Otherwise, you will be very happy with your choice to stay at the KIA Lodge before or after your flight out of Kiliminjaro airport.

Great for an Airport Overstay.

Nice little hotel with rooms in separate \"cabins\" on a lovely piece of property that is well maintained. Very comfortable and very clean. There is a restaurant on site with a limited menu; we found it acceptable but nothing special. If you need to stay a night or two around Kilimanjaro Airport, highly recommended. The hotel has a free shuttle service that worked effortlessly for us. Very friendly and helpful staff with good English language skills.

The hotel is conveniently located inside the JRO airport area. It's lodge disposition is very nice, especially considering it is an airport facility. Service is also great. Room conditions, however, are not that great. Low water pressure for showers, long walks to the restaurant and reception and bad telephone maintenance makes a short break between flights not so efficient.

We visited just to spend a day relaxing. The rooms are comfortable, the staff are very friendly, we had a great time. It is in the bush near the airport so is really a transit hotel but the swimming pool is great. The menu changes daily and is not huge, but the food is hearty, and a huge spread at the breakfast buffet.

Personalized Experience, Highly Recommend

The staff was amazing and made this experience for my wife and I. The hotel had the amenities of a larger facility, but there were only a few rooms so it was much more personalized. We had many conversations with the owner and became friends and stay in touch with multiple members of the staff. We highly recommend this over any of the larger resorts.

Kia Lodge is very conveniently located for the airport and a trip to Kilimanjaro mountain. It sets in a very beautiful lush ground. Perfect place to relax and enjoy the view of Kilimanjaro mountain by the pool after hard days of trekking and safari.

BEWARE!Terrible Hotel,unfriendly staff,room dirty

Please, stay away from this Hotel. It its conveniently located to the airport - indeed, about five minute drive and with complimentary transfer, that sounds the business when you have a early flight out of JRO or a late flight comming in.

But please stay in the center - its cheaper ( the room price for Kia Lodge is ridiculous high ) , cleaner ( not luxurious or even pampering, but they are clean ) which this one it is not - we had unclean towels in the bathroom, last guest hairs on the sink and the matress stained.... but most of all, people are nice - and in this Hotel they are simple ridiculous. Thankfully we had the room prepaid with Expedia, we dinner on arrival and we had a very early checkout - we requested bfast box ( we had a 5am flight ) and when trying to pay for the dinner, we tried 4 credit cards - not one went through. The recepcionist ( a girl ) said in a rude manner - it is your problem with our cards. We explained that was impossible and she tried to argue and few other guests joined in and said that no one managed to pay with credit card.

Still the recepcionist said the was not their problem and she wouldnt let us checkout.

It was our last day and we were missing 15 usd in cash and a friendly couple lended us the money - otherwise the Hotel would let us checkout.

The recepcionist just kept saying \"we are working on it\" and just kept checking out ( or trying.. ) other customers.

This is an airport hotel. So you are only ever going to stay here if you actually have to.
They've got you a bit over a barrel really because you have to eat there and the only meal options were a set lunch and dinner menu.
The rooms are basic, but a bit depressing to be honest. The mosquito net in ours had a large tear in it.... Sort of defeating the purpose.
The grounds are fine, pool area is nice enough but again you are only ever going to stay here if you need to.

Ideal for flying from/to Kilimanjaro Airport.

By far the best thing about this hotel is that it's 5 mins drive to the airport. They offer a free shuttle ride to and from as well.

Hotel is basic but perfect to make the end or beginning of your stay in the area more relaxing.

Wifi didn't work when I was there and there are no TVs, which was a bit random as every bar in Tanzania had the World Cup showing at the time. The manager let us watch it in his office, which was very kind as there were few of us.

I wouldn't stay for any longer than a couple days. It's expensive for what it is, you pay for location.

Perfect for pre/post Kili climb, on a clear day, you get a great view from the bar and pool.

The hotel was more than we expected

My wife and I chose the Kia Lodge over the internet from our home in Canada. We were leaving Tanzania after our month long mission at a school there and our flight was scheduled at 6:30 am, so we needed a place for the night that was close to the airport. We were greeted when we arrived at the reception and given an overview of the facilities. The person at the desk was very nice and made us feel at home. Even with the slight confusion regarding our reservation, the reception handled it and ensured my wife and I that all was well that we would be looked after. The room was clean and nice. The air conditioning was a real plus. The staff was great. The meal we had was probably the best we had during our time in Tanzania. We got a wakeup call and the hotel prepared a box breakfast for us since we we leaving before breakfast. The shuttle to the airport was great. I would certainly recommend Kia Lodge to anyone looking for a grat place to stay.
