I was pleasantly surprised by Tokyo stays Gotanda.
I like this area of Tokyo for my stays as it is close to everything and fairly straight forward to get to HND.

Our hotel room was bigger than most other budget hotels in Tokyo we have stayed at. And it had a good sized refrigerator and even a washer and dryer in the room. Closet space and a wardrobe to store our suitcases and clothes for the week.

I would not hesitate to stay here again. There is a 7/11 next door and the Donki store is around the corner as is a big grocery store and the Gotanda train station.

Everything about Tokyu Stay Gotanda is great! Staff is wonderful! We have stayed at other Tokyu Stays and this one does seem older, but we will come back as we love the amenities at Tokyu Stay Gotanda and cleanliness and location!!! It was nice to be offered cold bottled drinks in the afternoon!

Fantastic hotel!! Front desk staff was very friendly and the room was extremely clean and comfortable. The location is great, there is an entrance to the train station right outside the front door. Also, the front desk will hold your luggage after checking out. Really fantastic and comfortable stay, 11/10 stars!

Room was dirty. Black mould in shower, makeup foundation on sink counter left by previous guest, AC pushed out air that smells like wet dog so we opened the window instead. After staying a night our shoes smelled horrible from tracking the carpet germs from our socks into our shoes. Wish I didn’t pick this hotel. Good location though

In the beginning I was disappointed that the room was so small and nothing like the picture showed. But my friends told me that hotel rooms in Tokyo are relatively very small.
In that case, as a small room, there are a comfortable bed on which I slept well, a desk with all sorts of information, a bathroom in which was quite well
Organized, and a washing machine!
It’s neat and clean.
Location is good, Gotanda Station is right next to it.
It’s convenient to go everywhere, Shinuya is only three stops away.
But my room doesn’t have a view, which I am still disappointed.

We have a good size room. Having a washer/dryer is a deciding factor for us. Being close to the Yamanote line is very convenient, easy to get around to all parts of Tokyo. Gotanda is a quiet neighborhood and offers a lots of nice restaurants.

Great option for a location if you plan on using the train line often. Bed was comfortable, washer/dryer duo was easy to use, the blow dryer is great! Do not need to bring most toiletries. 7/11 is just around the corner! You are in a bit a of a red light district on one side but the other is ++ business and the river is very pretty to walk around. Staff are also very excellent for helping! We got an early check in for an additional fee but was worth it.

The room is small as most hotels in Japan. But this particular hotel is roomier than most. Ours has all you need including a washing machine. Hotel is in a quieter district and is near the station to access other popular crowded districts. This hotel is near the canal and parks so you can get your running in quiet easily compare to other areas. Would stay again 100%.

The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Gotanda station, which is handy for the Yamanote Line and the line that gets you to Haneda airport. The room I booked had a washing machine and microwave, so useful for longer stays. Though the user instructions for the washing machine are difficult to understand, even though there had been an attempt to translate into English.
The free coffeemachine in the lobby was a welcome touch first thing in the morning!

In-room washer/dryer made it worth the stay

The Bad:

Personal preference, but the mattress was super firm, almost hard. I didn't ask if there was a mattress topper option available, being that I didn't speak Japanese very well.

The \"accessibility\" option for disabled guests was only a shower chair that they brought up to the room and placed in the tub. I am a little more able-bodied than most wheelchair users, but still had difficulty getting into the tub (height was an issue). The door to the toilet would not accommodate my walker, too narrow, so I had to collapse my walker to get it into the toilet area.

The bidet was dripping the whole time, but it did work, so there's that.

The bathroom had a slight smell, kind of a musty smell. The \"couch\" we put the two chairs together to make a couch, was stained, and very hard to sit on for very long.

The Good:

The staff was very helpful, and welcoming.

The location was VERY convenient.

The washer/dryer all in one machine with detergent, the mini fridge, cooktop, dishes, made it worth the stay for the use of these things!

My room had a faint smell to cigarette smoke although I requested a non-smoking room. There was an air filtering machine in the room that did help.

It is conveniently located at a short wall distance from Gotanda station that makes it very well located for trips to Shibuya, Shinjuku and to airports from Shinagawa station that is a 5 minutes train ride.

This place was located at a very convenient location, and it was a very clean and comfortable property. Self service limited amenities are provided. Breakfast downstairs (Served at Jonathan’s restaurant where you get to choose set menu for hotel guests) was also adequate and sufficient to start the day. They had Japanese style and western style breakfast with unlimited drinks.The train station (subway or JR lines) just minutes away with combini stores next door and across the street. Gotanda station is quieter than other major train stop areas yet just few stops from the major sightseeing locations. While shibuya, harajyuku areas are fun to explore, it was cheaper to shop outside - west of Shinjuku area (like Kichijoji). Having the washing machine and mini kitchen in the room was a plus. Note that the washer/dryer can take up to 5 hrs for a full load because the dryer system in Japanese machines are “gentle” so your cloths are not scorched in high heat.Overall we felt that it was a good value to stay at this property and would recommend others to stay here.

I only stayed here for a night and room was extremely small I guess I’m not use to that and the staff didn’t speak any English which I didn’t like, also they wouldn’t let me use their ph and the one in the room didn’t dial out. The breakfast was not the best and they didn’t let me switch out the egg and substitute it for something else. It wasn’t the hotel for me. The check in staff was nice but the next day no one knew nothing. Very hard to deal w/ guest like that. I wouldn’t stay there again.

Easy access to the subway or to the train line. The hotel is nice and secure with limited housekeeping just when you ask for it. My room has a burner and a small fridge with freezer, they provide two plates, two forks, two plates two cups two mugs, a knife, a cutting board, a pot with lid, a microwave a pair of pasta tongs and a ladle.

The hotel is around a 3-5 minute walk to the subway station. The room itself does not have much space for luggage so it may feel a little cramped if you have more than a couple suitcases. The washing machine in the room was very convenient and detergent is provided. There was free coffee in the lobby area and you can have the hotel hold onto your luggage after check out.

This was 1 of 4 hotels we stayed at on our trip in Japan. It was definitely the best one. It was clean, the bed was very comfortable, the location was excellent, and the staff was friendly. We had a washer and dryer that actually worked inside our own room! So no sharing/ waiting for other people. There are so many food options around, and Don quijote is right behind the hotel! There is a shopping center around the corner which includes a market with just prepacked fresh ready to eat food, I highly recommend. The train station is super close and there is an elevator available so no stairs needed to get to your hotel. It's close enough to the shinjuku and shibuya area.

This is a good property for staying a quieter area in Tokyo. It is right by the JR Yamanote line, which goes to all major tourist areas in Tokyo, as well as a subway line. Best thing about this hotel was the washer/dryer unit inside the room. Perfect for travelers who need to do laundry.
