It was a lovely spacious hotel with a beautiful African theme spread out in beautiful grounds. The staff were lovely especially Hassan, the Bar Manager and the Animator boys Godgift, Marco and Festo who were great fun. We really enjoyed our holiday there.

Absolutely incredible! Fantastic beyond believe . It was so good I booked an additional 3 nights . I could not fault a single aspect of the resort . I was a lone traveler , and every single member of staff including the managers and manager of the resort made me feel like a member of the family . They were all so warm friendly and welcoming, and I will genuinely miss chatting to them . The location is superb and the beach and ocean views incredible. The food was fantastic and I would like to extend a massive thank you to every single member of staff! Nothing was too much trouble for this wonder people .

This place is truly African heritage. From the file folders to the furniture. I only missed an africanised sticker on the mini fridge.

The staff is warm, place clean, daily activities to keep you healthy n fit.

The hotel could be so much better with a little improvement to the toilets in the rooms and by training staff to have a more consistent experience. We loved the amenities and proximity to the beach. The pool area is quite nice but lacks atmosphere- the only time they play music is during water yoga each day at lunchtime. Most staff were very friendly but a few were really difficult. We asked to move rooms on day 1 as we had paid for a double room and got two singles pushed together- a real pet hate. It took a day to resolve and the next bed was much better but we had a nasty smell in the bathroom and in the area outside- we didn’t even bother complaining as the experience of moving room had been such an ordeal. Food is really good. Evening entertainment during dinner was quite nice but the setup was very strange with the bands playing facing a screen with half the diners hidden from view. The water in the sea here was an amazing temperature and you can swim easily when the tide is in. The “beach boys” that hawk all sorts of souvenirs on the beach were quite annoying- they were generally polite but would not accept “no” for an answer and will follow you for an uncomfortably long time when you try to just enjoy a nice walk on the beach. This is nothing the hotel can control. Overall we liked the place and probably would have rated it higher if we had been dealt with more professionally on the first two days

My wife and I booked our stay here for our belated honeymoon. From the day we made the reservation, the staff was communicative and engaged, corresponding with us via the Expedia messaging system.

When we landed at the airport, the transfer they had arranged for us ($60 each way) was waiting and was very friendly and professional. The van we rode in was clean and comfortable. The ride took about 40 minutes.

When we got to the hotel I wasn't sure what to think, because the signage outside the compound and the road leading to the gate are a bit worn down, but once you pull through the gate it's just fantastic. Everything looks great; it's clean, and looks like it's constantly and consistently maintained. Our check-in couldn't have been easier, we were given some fresh juice and then briefed on things like breakfast/dinner hours, wifi, etc... by one of the managers. Staff helped us with our bags to our villa, and it didn't disappoint--nice king bed, TV, A/C, a beautiful wrap-around bathroom, we couldn't have been happier.

The facilities are all great--the pool was large and not overly crowded, the beach is literally just a few steps from the pool, and the swim-up bar makes drinking even easier. Every meal was fantastic; the breakfast buffet is NOT to be missed, and every night was a different dinner buffet theme (Mediterranean night, BBQ night, etc...).

We would 100% go back, this place was great.

We had a lovely stay! The staff was very helpful and kind, and the food at the resort was good. Each night had a different meal theme, and so there was lots of variety and it was all really tasty. The staff was very responsive to any needs we had, and very attentive to the facility. We really appreciated Juamanne the restaurant manager, as he really ensured that we always had a everything we needed at meals, and that level of attention is unusual. The only downside is that the beach- while lovely- isn't conducive to swimming most of the time because of the tides. But the view and the pool were great. The internet was on and off, which seems to be a problem generally.

precious Christmas memory

We had a wonderful stay for Christmas. It had a great Christmas eve dinner course with surprise events such as camels (in Zanzibar..!), Santa Clause, free gifts for kids, etc. On Christmas day, they even prepared a complimentary lunch buffet at the beach restaurant, which was beyond our expectation. I would surely recommend it to others, and will consider going back their for another family trip.

The only negative side would be...its wifi is not for free. :(

I stayed here after climbing Kilimanjaro to recover. Nice hotel with spacious rooms. I stayed on a half board basis and the food was great and there was a wide selection on offer at breakfast and dinner. I like to try new cuisines and liked the themed nights especially Swahili night. I thought the drinks were pretty expensive if you're not all inclusive. I wanted to go diving and partly chose this hotel as it had a well rated diving centre (One Ocean). I wanted to dive around Nmemba Atoll but after filling in the diving centre's medical form they would not let me dive which was really disappointing and kind of ruined my trip. I stayed here on my own so got a bit lonely with nothing much to do except lounge around and wait to be fed really. There was nothing much around outside the hotel so ended up going to Nungwi on the last day to meet up with a couple of friends. Another irritating factor was that every time I ventured out on to the beach past the hotel fence I was approached by the many locals trying to sell me anything such as guided tours, snorkelling, massages, bracelets etc.
The tide goes right out on the beach here and I wanted to go out to just look around one day by myself but got some locals trying to guide me down to the coral reef. Just wanted to discover stuff for myself but they ended up walking with me when I didn't even ask them. Transfers were really expensive I thought, $60 for hotel to arrange transfer from airport.

It was amazing 8 days, everything went smoothly from first to last day.
All staff was very friendly and so helpful, every one in all resort corners is ready to help you. Our superior garden room was excellent, spacious and very clean with beautiful views. The breakfast and dinner

Good family orientated hotel, catering for larger groups, we stayed 4nights in a first floor garden view apartment, with large viewing balcony. Decor a little dated but functional. Gardens beatifully maintained and the beach area superb. Only pain were the numbers of hawkers on the beach. A walk at low tide to the reaf is a must. Catering and entertainment was of a reasonable quality. A hotel of this size should provide free wifi throughout.

Deserves the name Ocean Paradise

Stayed a long weekend at this gem. Wonderful spacious premises, lush greenery, great food and courteous staff. The German GM is hands-on and visibly motivating and directing his staff to deliver beyond expectations for East Africa.
Very clean rooms and public areas, friendly atmosphere and decent distraction. The park-like grounds are well kept an in spite of being almost full to capacity, I felt during the day as if only 10pct of the guest were around.
Beach is nice during high tide, during low tide the pool is the better option.
Will certainly consider to come back to Zanzibar and to this property

Lovely hotel

We just came back from spending 10 days at the Ocean Paradise Resort.
Really pleased overall. Our room was large and furnished in an African colonial style with a four poster bed. We really liked our room. Decent a/c and not a single mosquito bite in 10 days. They come and spray your room every night when you are at dinner.
Beautiful, lush, green grounds and all the staff are lovely, at reception, in the bars, in the restaurant and the animations team (Hassan was fab) and guest relations (Ellie, a lovely South African lady) who were always around to have a chat during dinner.

For those reviews complaining about the level of English spoken by the staff...keep in mind some of the staff haven't all had access to a great education, but they are trying their hardest. The staff all try really hard and have such positives attitudes. Just speak slowly and be patient.

Nice breakfast with pork sausages and bacon every morning with an omelette/egg station and lots of fresh fruit.
Lunch is served in the pool restaurant. The menu is good; selection of starters, sandwiches, wraps and pizzas,all reasonably priced, and main courses like fish of the day, curries and pasta. Reasonable prices and drinks are not too expensive.
Happy hour between 3-5pm where cocktails are half price.
Dinner had a different theme every night: Indian, seafood, BBQ, Swahili, oriental, Mediterranean, Asian/oriental, Italian). My favorites were seafood (lobster!), Indian, Mediterranean and Swahili (try the Zanziba

Beachfront with Big Pool

Overall, our five-night stay was very relaxing. I chose the resort to be close by the Mnemba Atoll where I would be diving for two days.

Our room was spacious, if a bit tired. There was a nice balcony as we were on the second floor. We had hot water almost instantly at all times. The grounds were well kept and the pool was clean. They had a fence which kept the touts out -- a feature I love. The breeze throughout the day was simply amazing. The beach was a mess though -- at low tide, it was an eyesore. At high tide, it was swimmable. Barely.

However, my main source of frustration was with the lack of English speaking staff. I knew we were in trouble when I asked where the concierge was located only to be given stares of misunderstanding. I asked another, \"Would you kindly show me where the dive center is located?\" This got me nowhere. Only after pointing at the SCUBA diver on my log book did he understand. I understand I'm in a foreign country, but clearly, this resort caters to the Westerner.

My other frustration surrounded the internet. We paid to have internet in the room and I paid for two plans as we had two devices. If it worked at all, the internet required us to login every couple of hours or to restart our devices to get a connection. Often, we would get a message saying something about simultaneous connections and we couldn't connect at all. If you are making me pay for a service, I certainly expect the service.

The name says it all

This place is truly a paradise. The resort is laid out so beautifully from the gate down to the beach. The best part is the view. Because the main reception, bar, and breakfast area are set on a hill, the views overlooking the lower gardens, pool area, beach, and turquoise ocean are indescribable. We loved taking breakfast while looking out over the coconut palms to the beautiful ocean water. Again, the atmosphere at supper was so exotic, dining on a wide variety of gourmet food next to the pool with live music. The staff are happy and friendly. We even enjoyed sessions of coconut palm weaving and water aerobics. Although our room was a bit of a walk from the pool and dining areas, I cannot complain. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. The only part of the experience I can complain about is the beach boys that hassle you and disturb your serenity as you walk along the beach. We had one of them follow us as we walked out to the reef during low tide. We was indeed kind and helpful for the most part but we never invited him. Of course, after escorting us back to the resort he wanted to paid something.

Home away from home!

The service was great! The entire staff were very friendly to me. From small conversations to any questions that I had all were answered with smiles and laughter. From guess services and the front counter staff to the bar, waiting, and recreation staff, I can honestly say that they made my time there more enjoyable. My room was amazing, I like how I was given a tour of my room when I first arrived when you walk into the rooms. It is easy to tell that the resort takes pride and care in maintaining their rooms. I quickly fell in love with the balcony. The view from my balcony was breathtaking! You could spend hours just sitting there! Shortly after my arrival, I took a walk around the resort and was taken away from how beautiful it was. I could go on about how great this resort is, but I will say that I was glad I chose to spend my vacation there and I plan on coming back during my next trip to Zanzibar!

This place is heavenly!

After spending 7 days on dusty safari roads of Tanzania, my wife and I needed a place to clean up and unwind. This hotel hit the spot. My wife quickly stopped complaining about her safari fatigue and her dirty little face was squeaky clean again.

Great hotel with plenty of things to do

We were pleasantly surprised upon arriving at the resort. Our room was huge and the property was beautiful! The staff was extremely friendly and they made us feel at home. They do a great job of scheduling activities throughout the day so guests have a variety of things to do. The food was okay for an all-inclusive - we definitely didn't starve while we were there. The spa was also nice and my husband and I had two great massages. Overall we loved the Ocean Paradise and would go back in a heartbeat!

It was more than I expected, just what I needed!

The staff was friendly, super in fact! There was always plenty of comfortable seating on the beach view, the pool was so deep! A depth for all ages, even stools for those looking for a cocktail! The food was delicious, I tried everything, just because I could decide! Live music everynight, with evening activities! The room was beautiful and I am excited to go again! P.s. the spa was fabulous and you can even get your nails done! All very reasonably priced!!!

Ocean Paradise Hotel June 18-22/2016

Located at the Northern end of the city this a lovely hotel set in its own well kept grounds with attentive staff from the housekeeping staff all the way up to the manager. A different theme on the buffet every night and food freshly cooked. Rooms regularly serviced and complimentary bottled water available in the rooms. No ATM - on the premises but maybe this is standard for African hotels? Beach and pool available. A really nice place to chill out, all sorts of people were there when we visited, couples, families and singles. Enough space to not feel over crowded. The staff were very accommodating to families with small children.

Nice hotel but not what it looks

I was really excited to visit this resort based on the pictures but was not happy when I got there. The staff are exceptional. The food was terrible and plain. There are way too many stairs to get to everything and going to dinner is five flights of stairs. Not friendly for the elderly or handicapped. My room was not cleaned very well and I had to do it sometimes. I took my elderly father and he had trouble with the stairs. This needs to be mentioned in their description. Overall I don't think I will come back.

Great hotel and amazing food! I have been to many resorts and this one is probably my favorite. The food has a lot to do with it. The only downsides are that the day trips are way too expensive, although they are enjoyable especially the tour of Stone Town, and the hotel does not accept American Express.

.very disappointed when 48 hours before our arrival we got an email to say that the resort could not honour our confirmed booking.our credit card had been charged immediately upon confirmation of the booking.We had been travelling in Tanzania where WiFi is not the best .We were asked by Reservations at an international number which would have been very costly.Fortunately the hotel so light at the end of the tunnel and at the last minute agreed to honour the reservation.Also there were two charges signed by other guests but charged to our room.They have to implement a better system so this kind of mistakes don't happen.This really created unnecessary stress

We decided to take a last minute break for a few days before Christmas with family and friends and were surprised to get a booking at such short notice.
Not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised with the resort which was great for our families with plenty to do for all ages.
The beach is stunning with the only draw back being the vendors who constantly harass you once you step outside of the hotel confines.
Staff are generally very friendly and helpful and the catering was pretty good to.
Overall a good experience.

Great Beach Resort

This is an excellent property with all the facilities you need for a sun and beach holiday.
It was good value based on the half-board arrangement.
The tide goes out a long way but it is beautifully warm when it is in and there is a lovely large pool.
The annoying boys on the beach have largely gone so transfers and excursions are pricey.

Very well kept Hotel, staff were very friendly and the dinners were amazing. Beach was also very good with the low tides in late morning that goes out for almost a km and then the high tide in mid afternoon right up to the Hotels where you can swim in the water. Just amazing.

The place was absolutely breathtaking - the lobby, bar and breakfast area have an unbeatable view over the ocean, nice enormous pool, beautiful and secluded rooms, stunning beach just a few feet away and tons of activities. Only problem was the service - the staff were friendly enough, but seemed a bit inept. We had asked for a boxed breakfast since we had to leave early for scuba diving, but they couldn't figure out our pretty simple order of toast and eggs (leaving me rather hangry until we returned 7 hours later). They also wanted to charge me to use the pay-Wifi when the free one wasn't working. Otherwise an absolutely stunning place and wonderful for kicking back and relaxing.

Great rooms, amazing pool, so-so service

The rooms were very clean and cozy. Pathways to the rooms can be a little dark at night, so be sure to bring a flashlight. Pool was amazing and dinner buffet was very tasty. We went the first week of April (1st week of the rainy season), so we had to endure a couple of hours of rain in the afternoons, but nothing too terrible. If you plan to snorkel, book ahead of time. The dive center only does 1 excursion a day and leaves early in the morning, so we were unable to participate because we arrived at the hotel after the dive center had closed the night before. Booking a taxi through the hotel desk had a large mark-up (i.e. price increase), so be sure to grab the number of a taxi driver to call yourself.

Great experience at Ocean Paradise

We had a great 4 night stay at Ocean Paradise Resort in Zanzibar this December. The service was excellent, rooms were perfect, and the resort is set against an amazingly beautiful white sanded backdrop. The staff did everything from arrange a private beach dinner for us to pack us a snack pack for our early morning departure to the airport. You won't have to travel out of the resort for much - the facilities really do cover most needs.

Three drawbacks come to mind - the ever annoying beach-boys and shopkeeper Masai that hound guests who walk the beach pretend to be friendly when they just want to get money out your pocket. The price of drinks at the resort is high. Going full board may save you lots of money. The resort is also on the eastern side of the island. So expect 60min trips to and from the airport or Stone Town.

The Safari Blue and Slave Market tours are a must.
Take your own hat! If you have to buy one on the beach the starting price to foreigners is $17.50 for a cheapie.

Other than that, I'd recommend the resort to anybody.

Pretty good hotel about an hour from Stone Town. Rooms were clean and comfortable but pretty spread out from the lobby / reception / dining areas (if you don't like stairs, look elsewhere). No free WIFI in rooms. Dinner was a decent buffet option and there was some live entertainment as well. Bar closes at 11pm sharp!

Solid option for a Zanzibar getaway

Overall I was satisfied with my stay at Ocean Paradise. I stayed for 3 nights after climbing Kili, and it was just what I needed after a grueling 6 day hike. I was a single female traveler and felt 100% safe. I booked a garden room which offered plenty of space and it was conveniently located next to the pool and very close to the beach. The food was a pleasant surprise as well; the pool bar had standard American options (sandwiches, pizza, etc) which were reasonably priced, and dinner was served buffet style and had tons of salad, entry, meat/seafood options. I'm usually a picky eater and could find something tasty. One thing to note: don't book your tours directly through the hotel as they are SUPER expensive. There are a few guys who hang out on the beach right outside the hotel that offer good quality tours for less than half the price.

Nice hotel but as is the case with all of these sytle of hotels somewhat cut off from the reality of the world around it.

The staff internally were excellent and solved any issues quickly and effectively; the gardens were well tended and food excellent.

They are over prioced for trips and excusrions so if you are staying in Stone Town before coming to the East Coast do the tours from there and not the hotel.

Beautiful location on the Indian Ocean coast

We stayed a week at the Ocean Paradise, loved every minute and would go back there.
The location is spectacular, the facilities modern and well kept and all of the staff very pleasant and helpful.
In looking for a location on the East Coast we had noted an number of reviews that talked about the distance from Stone Town and the airport and the cost of transportation. Stone Town and the airport are an hour away from the hotel but we made arrangements on arrivial with a taxi driver who made the trips for US$35 a trip.

Hotel atypique style africain safari, on était un couple avec un nourrisson, on a eu la chambre 178 c'était difficile de se déplacer de la chambre vers la piscine / restaurant du soir car trajet trop long. Si non personnel aimable, il faut surtout pas sortir vers la plage car les locaux te saute dessus pour espérer de vendre un truc.. si non globalement cest un bon hotel qui represente l'Afrique.

Veldig bra Resort med alt en trenger for å koble av fra hverdagen. Veldig serviceminded personale, god standard på rom, kort avstand til strand, stort og fint basseng. Hotellet tilbyr i tillegg ulike turer, daglige aktiviteter etc.

Wunderschöne, gepflegte Anlage, wird jeden Tag gut gereinigt.
Zimmer und Badezimmer sehr geräumig und immer gut gesäubert.
Betten werden liebevoll dekoriert.
Das Essen ist sehr schmackhaft und abwechslungsreich.
Einzig das Personal beim Abendessen hat einige Defizite in der Handhabung der Getränkerechnung. Man muss diese genau kontrollieren, bevor man unterschreibt, da häufig einiges durcheinander geht. Sonst ist das Personal sehr freundlich .
Der Strand, die Liegen und die Hotelanlage ist wunderschön, ich kann das Hotel uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.
Man muss beim Personal ein Auge zudrücken, schließlich ist man in Afrika!

Offre trompeuse ! C est lamentable ! Nous avons réservé 2 chambres doubles pensant payer pour 4 personnes et au final avons dû payer un supplément pour 2 personnes de 1300 dollars ! Ce site n est pas honnête je ne réserverai plus et ne manquerai pas d en faire mauvaise presse
Concernant l hôtel ; beau cadre et personnel souriant
La piscine est à rafraîchir
Cela reste très cher est s adresse à des clients huppés !

Vacanza piacevole e rilassante

Il resort sorge direttamente sul mare, le camere sono un po' datate e necessitano di un make up comunque sono pulite e ordinate. I sevizi sono di buon livello, tutto il personale è stato veramente cortese e molto ospitale, il breakfast ha una buona scelta di dolce e salato con possibilità di avere le uova cucinate sul momento da un cuoco.
Il ristorante a bordo piscina molto carino, il servizio è a buffet, tutte le sere c'è una cena a tema diverso con accompagnamento musicale. Il servizio bar è buono e veloce. La spiaggia molto bella con ombrelloni e caratteristici lettini di artigianato locale. La clientela internazionale.
Una pecca è il servizio WI-Fi che è a pagamento ma funziona malissimo

Schönes Hotel mit gutem Service.

Sehr schönes Hotel mit einem sehr gepflegtem Strandbereich direkt am Meer. Auch die Gartenanlage ist sehr schön und sehr gepflegt. Sieht wirklich toll aus. Die Zimmer sind schön eingerichtet, haben einen schönen grossen Balkon und werden jeden Tag sehr sauber geputzt. Am Abend wird das Bett vorbereitet, was ein toller Service ist. Das Essen im Hotel ist ausgezeichnet. Jeden Tag gibt es ein anderes Motto (Asia Night, BBQ, Ocean Night ect.) Es gibt beim Essen immer tolle Bands. Man freut sich richtig auf das Abendessen. Der Service im Hotel ist auch toll. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ein wirklich sehr tolles Hotel.

Zum Wolfühlen

Wir haben 2 Wochen in diesem schönen Hotel verbracht und uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Die gesamte Anlage ist sehr gut gepflegt, die Zimmer sind groß und sehr sauber, mit Klimaanlage und Moskitonetz. Das Frühstück ist Spitzenklasse und auch das Abendbuffet ist gut und bietet eine abwechslungsreiche Auswahl. Die Getränkepreise (wir hatten Halbpension) sind ok (z.B. das Bier für USD 4,50), so dass sich für und das All Inclusive nicht gelohnt hätte. Besonders hervorzuheben sind aber die jederzeit ausgesprochen freundlichen, gut gelaunten und hilfsbereiten Mitarbeiter, die in hohem Maße zum Wohlfühlfaktor beitragen. Es gibt eigentlich nur zwei kleine Kritikpunkte, wifi auf dem Zimmer kostet extra (USD 20 für 2 Wochen) und das freie wifi an den Bars ist extrem langsam, oder „Pole, Pole“ :-) aber alles in allem hakuna matata (kein Problem). Danke für 2 schöne Wochen.

Not bad hotel not the best

Hotel is good but need to improve a lot of things...
Especially in 5 nights they changed towels and bed sheets once... only make it and leave. It should not be the way. It was half board and you need to.pay extra for drinks it was fair enough. Prices are a little bit high but you are in resort so it's ok. Food were not good at all. I can not believe how they can not cook seafood in good taste. It's so simple. They have ocean best seafood supply but in seafood night instead of just grill shrimps octopus calamari they try to do it with sauce etc...no meaning of eating seafood. Every night different style but taste so so...Food can be improved. This hotel should change their master chief. Rooms were good enough. Hotel generally has good athmopshere. No internet in rooms only near pool and bar area. It is not big problem. Area itself not best place to swim. We swim but evening. In the morning low tides. Then afternoon high tides. You can swim but not best sea I think. Other parts of the islands can be better. There is nothing to do around. No restaurant etc... u have to in the hotel only. Sellers at the outside of the hotel were irritating many times but I guess all over the Zanzibar sale system is such. Reception was helpfully but they ask too much money for everything you ask. I asked 2 hour late check out and answer was pay 70 usd... I arrived early morning 6.00 and paid 70 usd extra too to get room. Hotel overall not bad especially athmospeher.

Escolhi esse hotel por causa dos comentários de outras pessoas q diziam q era importante conhecer o sul da ilha além das praias mais conhecidas q ficam ao norte. Infelizmente a praia não dá para tomar banho por causa dos corais e das algas. O Hotel é simples bem rústico, com comidas mais locais ( vc incorpora o local ) muito distante com transfer caríssimos tipo para ir na outra praia do Norte me cobraram 150 dólares saindo do hotel e eu fechei com um rapaz q fica de fora do hotel por 80 dólares. O pior foi carregar as malas até fora do hotel pq como não escolhi o transfer do hotel ele proibiu o táxi de entrar. Achei um ponto bastante negativo.

Ein Ort um immer wieder zu kommen.

Es war ein entspannender Kurzaufenthalt von 2 Tagen. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet, ebenso die Unterhaltung. In guter Erinnerung bleibt auch die Fitnesseinrichtung.
