Easy train to Garmisch. Quiet and staff were so friendly and helpful. They even had stamps for sale for our letters and postcards. Breakfast was excellent with a big variety of foods, even an omelet/egg station. Train to Eibsee/Zugspitze is a mini block away and takes you right there (train passes provided to us as part of our stay). Great experience and would return

Amazing day! The staff was the best part. We asked for an ice machine, but they don’t have them at hotels in Europe. A very nice staff member immediately helped us and ran and got us ice for our water bottles for the day. Went out of his way. Amazing place to stay!

The front desk person was Asian and didn’t understand English. He advised our rooms were adjoining but I don’t think he knew what the word meant.
Also find it crazy to pay for parking at a hotel where you are staying.

The cleaning lady who was very friendly spoke good English, begs the question why someone behind reception @ a 4 Star hotel was seemingly unable to speak English, although I have the impression she just didn't want to!

The room we were in was quite dated and did not look anything at all like the pictures online so that was disappointing. It was clean but no windows besides a door that went out into a patio, the room temperature was quite uncomfortable. The walls were very thin and the family next door had a screaming baby and that made it very hard to sleep. The hotel looked lovely online but we did not get the room that was advertised. The area around the property is quiet and seemed residential. Nothing was within walking distance. We did not try the restaurant.

We unfortunately were staying only one night and our hike second day was rained off so we would like to return for longer next time to explore the area more.

Fabulous location and great facilities

Location and facilities are what make this hotel. It sits on a junction of some of the best walking routes, at the foot of the Zugspitze. If you have to pay for parking then euro 9.50 isn't excessive. Breakfast is lavish and seat yourself and a serve yourself buffet. If I have one gripe it's that room cleaning can be late in the day. Wellness area spacious separate good size pool and gym. Bus and train stops about 10 metres from the hotel.

The property was located in one of the prettiest towns I’ve ever been in. A plus is there is a hike that leads to some amazing views along the river. You get to hike through caves and over multiple bridges (was freaking dope).

Expedia noted laundry but there was no laundry available on site.

This is a very authentic, traditional German-style hiking resort in a small village, adjacent to Grainau and exactly halfway between bustling Garmisch-Partenkirchen and tge Austrian-side cable car to the Zugspitze.
The reception desk staff is completely English-fluent, but the housekeeping and restaurant waitstaff are not, although they are very friendly. If you want to experience the sort of vacation that middle class German families normally take, this is the place to go.

Lovely large rooms, a great breakfast buffet, and incredibly helpful staff. If you are going up Zugspitze on the cogwheel train, this is the perfect place to stay. The station is literally across the street. Just make sure you wave like crazy when you see the train coming or they may not stop! We waved, but apparently not wildly enough, and were left behind, but the front desk staff were very helpful in getting us on our way again.

We stayed one night and loved our stay. It is very convenient to Rothenburg, but beware, there are a lot of stairs along the way.

The hotel is beautiful, it fits in with the town of Rothenburg perfectly. It is an old castle type building so understand there are no TVs or AC in the room. It was a bit warm in the room, we could have used a fan which is why there are only 4 stars, other than that it was perfect.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, its an awesome experience.

Breakfast is great, amazing location to some great trails and get free bus passes for the days you are at the hotel which is very convenient.

The property itself was great though would not want to stay there during the heat of the summer as there is no fans or A/C.

Supposedly accept VAT forms but failed to do so and the gentleman at the front desk when I was checking out didn’t even know what I was talking about. Delayed while he searched for the paperwork for about 20 minutes. Paying the taxes was not the issue, it is I was told they accepted the form to remove the taxes and they did not follow through.

Overall, would I tell people to stay there, yes! Just set your expectations and enjoy!

Great location for family trips and outdoor act.

We enjoyed our stay at the Berghotel. This is a great hotel for someone who loves the outdoors. we had a great view of the mountains and the local train station was very close by. The rooms were very clean and had newer bedding and pillows. The included breakfast was great and had a nice selection of food to choose from each day.
The only drawback was no A/C. The day we checked in it was 98 degrees. That night it rained and the rooms cooled down nicely. I'm sure this isn't an issue for 90% of the year but our rooms were over 90 degrees when we checked in the first day.

I didn’t get to go to this hotel because of COVID-19, but I was very impressed at how they proactively helped me when I thought I had canceled my reservation but it turned out I had only canceled 1 of the 3 rooms. They did not charge me a no-show fee and canceled the other two rooms for me. Great service, thank you! I hope I can visit some day when the pandemic is over.

Very Good Skiing Hotel

Great hotel to base a skiing trip from. Garmisch and its slopes are only 5 mins drive away. The Hotel is very good, it could however do with a freshen up. Parking is free but badly laid out. Pool is great, rooms great and Breakfast is really good.

The hotel itself is old, but service and the facilities available more than make up for that. Breakfast is amazing, and it’s perfect to start your day whether you are skiing or hiking. Property is located a 20 minute walk from the nearest lift, and there’s a bus stop 1 minute away so you can reach Eibsee and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

I was very happy with everything here. the service was up to par for Germany meaning their customer service for dinning is much different than American customer service when it comes to dinning. How ever the morning breakfast that comes with hotel stay was a buffet and their choices were amazing in how much they set out.
i also liked the fact their is a electric boot polisher in the hotel. they also have an underground tunnel to rooms and lobby which was nice if the weather was crummy out, or for a drunken stumble back to your room keeping you out of the streets. i would stay here again. we were hoping for snow in the area for sking but on our dates of the 2nd through 4th of december there was none. not the hotels fault.

Handsome little hotel with quaint Tyrolean style, warm and friendly service, and relaxed, laid back feeling. Clean and comfortable. Great breakfast and fine restaurant for dinner - or sit out on the patio with towering mountain crags looming overhead. Located at the end of the road right at the trailhead for the Höllentalklamm! Breathtaking!

Good: Excellent breakfast buffet. It was probably the best I have ever had in Germany or Austria. Big balcony with an expansive view of the mountains and valley. Very Pretty. The room was meticulously maintained and very clean. The duvet has a wonderful smell.

Not so good: Bathroom toiletries limited to a wall dispenser of general purpose soft soap. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. My wife was not happy about this. 4 stars equals four basic items in the bathroom: body soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Also, free parking is only free if it is available. Very limited parking on property and on the street. A considerable lack of snow removal made the situation even worse. Third, there is a chapel on the premises that announces Catholic Mass at 9:30 on Sunday in the winter. However, no Mass available. Chapel was locked. We had to rush to Mass in town 20 minutes away. Don't advertise a chapel in the middle of the woods if it is not available. This was one of the reasons we chose this property for a Sunday stay to begin with. Finally. Wi-Fi was non-existent in the house we stayed in room 120. It may be free...but if it's not available, how free is it?

Other info: This property has multiple houses that are not interconnected. Expect to walk outside in winter. Houses are well kept though, and ice mitigation on the sidewalks helps.

Good quality but a bit pricey.

Summer visit - nice and comfy room, however the balcony was just above the kitchen staff area which generated a lot of noise if the balcony was left open. Missing air-con in hot days such as the ones we visited. Opening windows helped somewhat but introduced noise. The area is good for hiking, but unless you have a car not much else around. A bit pricey but high quality hotel overall. Very beautiful.

What can I say ? This is out 6th time at the hotel. It is our home away from home, our escape. Great personnel, awesome breakfast, dinner menu can use a makeover. At the base of a mountain that has made my fat butt climb 4 years in a row. Love it to death. Maybe one day I can live there full time.

Great place in the middle of nowhere..!!

Stayed a few days to hit the snow. This place has an amazing breakfast buffet. The dinner buffet had plenty of food and decent options also. Not to mention they had Paulaner Hefeweizen. If i go back that way I will definitely stay here again.

The overnight stay of pets in the room should only be allowed in a special house. The last night of our stay the dog in the neighbors room barked several times. It was not amazing. By the way, we like dogs. But not if they bark during the night.

Relaxing mountain place for our summer holiday

It's close to the Zugspitze train and bus, but what I really like is the dining area on the main level and the cellar bar on the lower level. The dining room is large, and the breakfast and dinner buffets have an amazing variety of foods. The cozy cellar bar is run by a wonderful and friendly manager, Marc, who is a charming host. The hotel also has a fun swimming pool, which has submerged exercise equipment, water jets, and fountains that are fun for kids and adults alike.

Avoid this place!

This is a hotel to avoid! Rooms are small, not clean, they don't even have rugs. Floors are covered with linoleum that makes a terrible noise. Bathrooms are not clean and in a deplorable condition. Furniture is old and looks like taken from a garage sale.
The hotel rooms are in the basement of an apartment building. No parking available nearby. Parking cost us 25 euros per night. The lady at the reception desk is not nice and not willing to help when you have a question. In fact, she seemed annoyed at your questions.
Location of the hotel is in an area of Munich that one would try to avoid.

Had a wonderful stay here. Our room was in one of the buildings across the street from the main hotel building, but had a wonderful balcony view of the Alpspitze/Zugspitze mountain. Absolutely breathtaking scenery. Room was clean and comfy. No problems w/noise. The property is very well maintained with plenty of great amenities. Wonderful breakfast included w/the room. Wifi was good, but the 2 accounts they gave us expired after 2 of the 3 days at the hotel. Not a big problem. The staff were very friendly and helpful anytime we needed it. The bus and Zugspitzebahn train stop right by the hotel (Hammersbach stop). We got a Grainau card, which cost us about $15 for 2 of them. We thought they were free (and thought they told us so when we checked in), but were told they were an extra charge when we checked out. Either way, its a good deal and it more than paid for itself over a 3 night stay. If you need to get back to the hotel from Garmisch-Partenkirchen after the bus stops, a cab can take you to the hotel from train station for 16-20 Euros. Really loved our time here and would happily stay here again if we take the opportunity to visit this beautiful corner of Germany again.

My fiancée and I arrived late. Check in was no problem. The bar in the basement usually stays open if you're buying drinks. The bartender (name escapes me) was very friendly, talkative and accommodating. Our room was next to a running stream which provided amazing white noise for a very peaceful night's sleep. Breakfast was amazing! Many options for a traditional \"European\" breakfast. Hiking trails are right outside the main door.

What a location! We were in the area to hike up zugspitze and the hotel is situated at beginning of the particular route we wanted to take - the hollental route. We arrived reasonably late and there was only one person at front of desk and was completely swamped with guests (a tour bus had just arrived). The lady was very helpful once she had time. We were origionally placed on the ground floor, the only window in the room was blocked by brick wall, no views and very little light, it felt like we were in the basement, after asking to move we were accommodated and the lady did every thing she could to help us out. We were moved to a room with a balcony and with an amazing view! There was no kettle or any condiments in this room but a short walk to the restaurant for tea was no problems. On the Saturday we left before brekfast and a very nice pack lunch was prepared for us instead, brekfast on Sunday was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend it for to anyone, the room move made the stay 100% better

Wonderful stay, right next to the Zugspitz train to Innsbruck in one direct and the Zugspitz mountain in the other direction. A bit secluded but perfect for skiers, hikers, or just quiet respite from the hustle & bustle.

Great Mountain Getaway

If you plan to visit Zugspitze, this is the place to be! The train that will take you up the mountain stops a block from the hotel. The hotel is divided between a couple of buildings within a very short walk. There is a very nice spa on site and the hotel a serves a great buffet every morning. There is a nice restaurant and a pub inside which will be nice at the day's end.

Great base for exploring the region

Great base for exploring the Zugspitze region. Train to the mountain stops right behind the hotel and there are a few great hiking trails that start from the property, too. The hotel restaurant features an impressive breakfast buffet. Nice indoor pool area, too.

Cozy Friendly Customers Services

Great location for hiking (right behind hotel) and skiing. Train stop just 3 minutes walk away. It is away from main Gamisch downtown (15 minutes train ride) where all the shops and restaurants. Excellent compliments breakfast and customers services!

Unique German Getaway

I really enjoyed the hotel but the place was definitely more focused on their local Bavarian guest. The employees knew very little English but were similarly eager to try their English as I was to try my German. I was surprised for a hotel of this magnitude that they did not even have a English menu, especially considering England is right there. The location is a great in my opinion. Hiking is near by and the train station to go to Garmish or Zugsplitze is just a few meters walk. Don't miss the hike to gorge, amazing. Nice spa and pool to relax at if you have the time. Really good restaurant also.

Enjoyed our stay

Extremely clean, comfortable, superb food, friendly service, only location-wise it's a bit out of the way if you don't have a car. Our room was very nice, but a bit small. Also, taxi drivers in Garmisch-Partenkirchen are NOT familiar with the new name and that can be awkward. But, on the whole, this is a very fine establishment!

Fantastic location

The location is outstanding, right at the foot of the Alps in the shadow of the Zugspitze. Bus and train service easily accessible to Garmisch and Eibsee where you can catch train or cable car up to Zugspitze. Hiking trails right outside door. Very relaxing in summer time.

Great hotel in the most excellent location

To start, this hotel is located in a tiny little community outside of town, on the side of a hill, with a waterfall and walking trails on site. There is a small train that stops just about 2 blocks down from the hotel and runs to the two neighboring towns. So charming, and we hadn't even been inside yet. Beautiful 'Bavarian' style architecture, many sitting areas, bars, large pool/spa area, and the rooms were larger than expected. View was exceptional overlooking the valley. The breakfast was outstanding, interesting and extensive selections, and everyone was very friendly. I highly recommend this place if you want a peaceful place with plenty to keep you busy, if you want. We will be returning next Spring and plan on staying here. Less than an hour drive to a castle too! One note, Wi-Fi only seemed to work in the lobby and our room, so having a drink while planning the next days adventure from either bar was out. Had to take our drinks to the lobby, not as comfortable. Everything else shined!

Beautiful hotel

My husband and I traveled with our 2 month old and we enjoyed our stay. Free and convenient parking. There was no issue checking in early. A crib with linens was setup in our room. We were placed in a peaceful area of the hotel. Breakfast was fantastic! The only down side is that the tasty pancakes we enjoyed was only out on the buffet our first morning. Each morning after that we looked for them but could not find them. :) Can't complain about a thing!
