No staff on site but as expected. Door codes worked as indicated, although knowing the bedroom door needed a key which was stored on the ground floor would've been good to know before climbing four flights of stairs. More like shared housing with individual rooms than a hotel - could hear all the plumbing and foot movements of the room next door. Fine for an overnight stay.

Housekeeping - We didn’t have enough toilet paper to last the duration so had to buy more (housekeeping has to be requested, but didn’t think we should need to for such a basic necessity)
Bad comms - I requested housekeeping for a specific time (during the day), which the hotel confirmed but they didn’t communicate it with their housekeeper so housekeeping was not done until the afternoon while we were resting

Be aware - no elevator, no breakfast offered

Administrative nightmare. Even down to the irritation of putting the door code in and not realising I had to press the enter button, because the green paint had completely worn off the button and my tired brain did not register it. That picture is not what I could see out of my window. I could see a moldy wall 2 feet away and no sky whatsoever.

Do not stay here

Arrived there after a 8-hours flight to find that nobody is on site. Also, the sign at the address is a different name than the hotel I booked through hotels.com. There is a phone number to call at the door, which is not working, and when I tried to contact Hotels.com to get help it took forever to get someone to chat. After half hour of waiting outside they told me I needed a code to open the door which I hadn’t received, so I started to panic. I then found that in my junk folder. Finally, we got inside and the room was absolutely disgusting. The mirror over the bed had some sort of crusty splatters and grease all over it, the room smelled like sewage and the balcony/chairs had pigeon feathers and droppings everywhere. There was also an ashtray full of cigarettes butts and a dirty glass from the previous guest on the table there. We weren’t able to shower, so we left the following day back to the airport to catch our next flight. I never had such a bad experience in my whole life.

Needs a lot of TLC

Entry details were emailed late which meant I had to chase them up. Location was good. Bed was comfortable. The Deluxe room was very basic, sloping floor, large gap in the entrance door. Shower very small and a very unpleasant smell from the bathroom. The balcony had not been cleaned of bird mess and feathers and not sure the doors would have opened. Very run down.

The bed was broken and wonky, the lower half had a dip of about 7 cm because the base was made up of two separate parts, and the matress was more like a futon. Otherwise did the job.

The location was good, but a shame about the number of people who use the green space outside to smoke marijuana.
Ideal for a short stay, 1 or 2 nights, but not longer.

Clean room but the bathroom door did not shut properly and there was a nasty, damp smell coming from the drain in the shower ( it was a basement room). This was really off putting!
Bedroom was good , but would have been excellent if there was a mini fridge ( there is room for one under the tea area). Great location though!

This property was okay for a one night stay, but the ameneties werent great, the shower blocks and fills up within a few minutes (theres a note to say leave 15 minutes between showers due to drain issues) but hardley have long enough to wash hair before drain fills. All floors and doors in the property wonky and doors do not feel very secure. The property was in a great location and the check in went smoothly with clear instructions from the property - although we met another couple who were waiting an hour to get the locks changed due to a checkin issue with the key safe. Windows were very rattly - could hear them bang when the wind blew.

For the price i expected better, but overall was okay for a 1 night stay, super convenient location.

Good option if you just need to put your head down for the night. Clean and in a great location.

This is an unstaffed property where you’ll receive entry instructions a day before. Someone is on call when you need them and they were super friendly.

As it’s an old building with multiple rooms, it could potentially get loud and feel unsafe depending on the type of guests that are staying.

Overall very good and would stay again if the price remains competitive

Bad experience to get the door code

There was no response when I asked ( by email or by call) for door code from 24hours to 6 hours ago of check-in time. Whilst I leave from home at 9am and on the way to INNit Joy until almost 11am, I got the email from INNit asked for my ID, but INNit didn't tell what kind of ID I should provide. I didn't have driver license and I didn't have my passport on hand. I requested them to accept my husband driver license as he came with me. It took almost 4 hours back & fore, finally they requested me to fill-in the form. Fortunately I could can the door code at around 3pm. I really unsatisfied their late response to me. If INNit needs my ID (passport) why they didn't response to me in one day ago or even in morning time of my check-in day before I left my home. This bad experience make me & my friends lower down our ranking to INNit. Consider the market price of room charge, we accepted the room conditions and room services.

Really poorly maintained rooms.
My room, number 4 stank of old drains and the smell in the bathroom made me feel sick.
Noisy location and no sound proofing in the building. Definitely not worth over £100 and wouldn’t stay again. I stay in Brighton most weeks.

Sweet room close to shops.

It was a sweet little room, with small balcony to front over looking some greenery.
Bed was soft, plenty of sockets and WiFi and lighting. Wasn’t much noise when we stayed so slept well. The only issue was the smell coming from the en-suite which wasn’t very nice for the price that was charged . Was close to shops and Brighton centre where we were watching a comedy show.

Over Prices for this type of room. Top floor and very small. Did not find out self service check in until after booking. No breakfast included in price. Last booking with Britannia Study £10 cheaper and breakfast included. Shower good but very small bathroom. Wi fi did not work

The photos look far better than reality! Hall and stairs very scuffed. Room and bedding were clean. Shower was dodgy…the water didn’t drain away, so you had to be very careful not to let it spill over the shower tray.

Nice, comfy room but not happy with smoke smell

Great location and it was perfect for an overnight stay for my mums birthday. The beds were very comfy. We were just a bit disappointed with the cleanliness of the room - it stunk of smoke. We opened the windows and I sprayed my perfume (not ideal) but we couldn’t get rid of it. Hopefully just a blip as I’d stayed here before and it wasn’t an issue.

Clean but small and basic

The communication from Robert was excellent and he managed to get me the room at 2pm instead of 3pm. I booked for myself but ended up bringing my wife. Room was tiny! We had to get ready for a wedding and it was not comfortable. It was clean but for what I paid I’ve stayed in 4-5 star for similar or less. The picture advertises a room more spacious with a balcony. We had neither. Room 8, 3rd floor is only suitable for one small person. Bed was comfy enough but room was basic. If you are travelling non peak time and need a place to crash for a night it would be ok but no more. Location was good for what we needed.

We had a disappointing situation where a previous occupant had been smoking in the room and we were unable to stay in the room.
The owner responded very quickly, apologised for the previous guest and sorted us out.
The owner is going to deep clean the room and replace the curtains.
An unfortunate situation for the owner who acted quickly to resolve the situation.

The location is central and just a couple of minutes walk to the sea front. Check in was very easy & the bed clean & comfortable. The square in which the property is located would have once been lovely but was now rather down at heel. The en suite was clean but the finishes, particularly the tiling covering the loo cistern was very rough indeed. Paintwork throughout the hall/stairs & landings desperately needed cleaning (or preferably repainting). The walls were in poor condition in parts & need filling & painting. In the room the paintwork, particularly around the windows was very dusty & dirty. This is an old property which really needs some investment in the overall standard of finish & cleanliness. We paid £166 for a single night which we felt was very poor value for money. I would not stay here again.

Quirky building with uneven floors, which we really liked. Check in and out very easy - received a text on the morning of arrival with door entry and key box codes and just locked door and left key in secure letterbox when left (early). We had top floor room, number 8. Room was compact but perfectly adequate, as was ensuite. Nice and clean, nice sheets and duvet and towels very good. Problem was the mattress. No support and lumpy, it's had its day and needs replacing. Due to this we had real trouble sleeping the two nights so ended up coming home early on our last day rather than going for a walk along the beach before the drive home, we were just too tired. Which was a shame as you don't have to checkout until eleven, which normally would be ideal. Overall, we would recommend this Guest House to those on a slightly lower budget but hope the owners replace that mattress imminently.

Good For The Price

I was informed prior to my stay that reception would be closed from 3pm and was given instructions on how to access my room key if I arrived after then. I arrived just after 2pm to find Reception closed, so followed the instructions provided, however these were wrong, so it was lucky the owner turned up as I was struggling.
I was happy with the room generally, it was very comfortable and clean, as was the bathroom, however the shower was very small and I had to walk in sideways to squeeze through the door.
Having said this, the guest house was a good price for Brighton, so overall I would say it was a comfortable stay.
I do think however that it would be a good idea to have a manned Reception during the day.

The breakfast was not at the hotel as the owner said he needed a break and it was a 10 minute walk away from 9.00 at a cafe. The tv channels did not work properly and the shower had 2 settings freezing or scorching. Location however was good.

Great Location but I would say the rooms are on the small side (in fact very small). The shower is a very small cubicle which my 6ft4 husband found difficult to move around it. On a positive note, the breakfast basket is very cute.

Stayed here for the night while attending a gig at the Brighton Centre - 2 minutes away.
The Churchill is a little gem tucked away in a row of Regency houses on Russell Square, just behind the seafront. Street parking is easy, as is the nearby Regency Square car park. 5 minute walk to the centre of town, 10 minutes to The Lanes.
Simple, elegant en-suite rooms, self-service check-in after 3pm, very easy. The owner, Robert, is contactable in case of problems, had a great chat with him after breakfast, clearly someone very dedicated to his property and his guests. Breakfast is optional, and is delivered to your room in a neat little hamper.

Very enjoyable stay at Churchill Guesthouse

Very enjoyable stay at the Churchill Guesthouse. Robert was friendly and attentive. We stayed in room 9 which was nice and clean, as well as larger than average. There were tea and coffee making facilities inside the room, along with everything needed to make hot drinks. The bottle of water was also very well received! The bathroom was also clean, included fresh fluffy towels and toiletries. In the morning, we had a lovely breakfast hamper delivered to our room which included cereal and milk, crossiants, boiled eggs, fresh fruit and orange juice. Note to potential guests - bring an eye mask if you like to sleep in complete darkness. There are blackout blinds and curtains in the room which are great, but a little light is let in through the door cracks from the hallway light. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and will definitely return to Churchill Guesthouse! Robert clearly takes pride in his business and it definitely shows.

Central hotel B&B in centre of town. Easy to book, and check in. Good value.
Room 1 was very small with tiny shower bathroom. But clean and comfortable with plenty of pillows. The hotel stresses quietness which clearly worked - other guests were very considerate with no door banging late at night which is usually a problem in other hotels!
Great hamper breakfast delivered to the room, as per our order the night before.
Misunderstood about dogs being allowed - they aren't, but the booking website search indicated they were. No problem in the end - the manager was very sweet about it.
The only downside really is lack of parking - we had to pay £25 for leaving our car in the next door NCP car park, which made our stay much more expensive than we planned for. There may be cheaper options but we arrived late and didn't have the energy to drive around the neighbourhood to find anything else.

The hotel was very clean and nicely decorated. The owner, Robert was incredibly friendly and helpful. He was especially attentive in ensuring that he could cater for my dietry requirements (celiac disease) in the complimentary breakfast, which I had expected to not be able to have! The breakfast was served in a wicker picnic basket, which was a really cute, quirky touch. The location was just perfect for us too, 10mins walk from the station, 5 mins from the beach and 10mins from the lanes. We will definitely stay here again!

We arrived at the building just before 3pm as we had been text to say that reception closes then each day. My phone had died so I didn’t have the door code
On arrival the door was locked and a notice said we could call for staff to let us in. Did so and waited, a very nice woman came after a while and then it turned out the receptionist was inside all along.

The place looked more like a boarding house than a nice bnb or hotel, doors all had huge gaps below and above them.

You had to lock yourself in the room with a key as otherwise door was open.

Our room was basic, bed was comfy which was thankful.
Big sign in shower warning of the charges for leaving make up or hair dye stains on towels but underneath it was a dirty face flannel with a big brown stain in the middle

Kettle was filthy so didn’t use it

Generally extremely poor and would never go again, we looked sadly at other local hotels which were around the same price.

This is a very basic hotel, I booked through my Barclays Expedia site and bought it had breakfast included but it didn’t. One of those where you have to check carefully what you’ve booked! Overall a clean and basic place to stay.

Good value, centrally located guest house. Clean rooms. Old building, so quite noisy overhead etc. Was unable to have bags stored on day of departure which slightly soured experience (bag storage is on “first come first served basis”)

Great little hotel, very close (short walk) to the town centre, and a 5 minute walk down to the sea front.
Very quick easy check-in, only issue is the door draft guard was placed on the bed (as decor) which left dust on the duvet cover.
Apart from that highly recommended for a stay in Brighton, all in all we loved the place.
