Like the rest of the reviews. The place is stunning. Larger room than I anticipated for the traditional. Check in and rest of staff were lovely and helpful with all queries. Location is incredible for price. We enjoyed a drink on the rooftop and sites of the harbour. Also nice that the lock the door when rooftop is open and have 24 hour staff. If arriving from train station it is much too far to walk be prepared to catch public bus to hotel, which will be a safer option. Once down at harbour we felt safe and relaxed. Would highly recommend this hotel

While the hotel was a bit dated, it had a gorgeous roof top bar overlooking the harbour. All the staff were super kind and friendly. Breakfast was not worth the €10 when you can get a better deal in some of the cafes along the front. But it was plentiful and had fresh squeezed orange juice which is a plus. It is ideally situated in the old port and very close to metro and the boat to chateau d’if. There are pubs across the harbour about 5 mins walk.

This hotel was not really as expected. Our room was very old compared to others (we saw them being cleaned) and our room had an extra wall so it was very claustrophobic because the bed was in a nook. It was tiny, outdated, and just generally quite run down. The shower didn’t have a full size screen so the bathroom was soaked every time we showered. The room was very humid and the aircon was not great. The road was very noisy so we couldn’t open windows. No room to open a suitcase fully. I wasn’t expecting luxury for the price but it was overpriced for what was offered.

An older building and a small (by NA standards) room but very well kept. A great location to get around and fairly close to saint Charles rail station.

There was some miscommunication about the payment, but the desk staff (particularly the woman with the australian accent) was extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating and made what couldve been a very stressful situation one of the highlights of my trip. Pretty much across the road to the Calanque tour and the Archeological museum. The service alone is worth the stay. The location right in the old port is another. The rooftop patio has an amazing view and again, is worth the stay alone.

My first impression was not good! Its an old building, but that impression turned positive by the security of it (had to be buzzed in), old is actually historic and very comfortable (small, cozy room, but not kacking anything). We had a view of the port from the 4th floor and were allowed access to the rooftop area before it opened for even better views. Our big mistake, not reserving le petit dejeuner offered for the next morning when we checked in. It appeared to be good value for the money but needs to be reserved the night before, and 8 am in the area offers no choices. We had booked a walking tour of Marseille and were allowed to store our bags in the breakfast area, no issues, everything was waiting for us on our return. The bed was comfortable, room was quiet and the Hermes offers excellent access to the historic port area. Would definitely return given the chance.

Great location.

Right in the hub of Vieux-Point. Walkable to shops, restaurants and sites. The sightseeing train is right out front but if you want to go,go first thing as the lineups are tremendous. Monica and the other staff are very kind and accommodating. Paid breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We had a room which the AC wasn’t working and were able to change. The first room was very small and the second one was spacious however the shower was so small so not sure how a larger person would fit. Both rooms had a lovely view of the port. The hall carpets are in need of replacing or just a super deep clean. The rooftop bar is a must for a drink and/or tapas for a stunning view.

Rooms need some TLC, location is great

Not-so-great room in a great location. Reception was super nice. Rooftop has a great view. But the room was sort of falling apart and not entirely clean. Sheet, bed we're fine but there was leftover floss on the bathroom floor, dust in some areas, and the shelving was either falling apart or were too unlevel to keep some items on them.

Very convenient within walking distance of the train station. You have a view of the port and the hotel has a nice rooftop bar m/patio that has an amazing view of the port and Basilique Norte Dame.

The room was a tad small and could have had a couple more electrical outlets. There weren’t any side tables as the took up the entire bedroom.

The size of the room was for 1 person not 2. It was extremely small 10 m2. Hotel should not advertise for 2 pers. I think Expedia should not advertise on the site this kind of rooms. Beside this no amenities - nothing.
Not even face towels, no coffee Nothing. I never stay in this kind of cheap hotel. I think Expedia should revise this hotel.We are very, very disapointed.

The location is fantastic, breakfast is very good, but it is by far the smallest room we have ever stayed in. Could not even walk around the bed, and barely had room to get dressed.
Only towel is a bath towel.

Smelled liked wet dog in the room, had to keep the window open all day to try to get the smell out. Carpet was dirty and was not vacuumed. Only one towel for 2 people. Unusual that you have to leave the key at reception when leaving. Girl at front desk was very friendly. Hotel was situated in a good location.

Lovely hotel in a fantastic location.

This small hotel has friendly staff, decent facilities and is in a fantastic location on the harbour. Our room had a view of the harbour but not all do. We took our dog and he received a nice welcome. He is a Golden Retriever, so it was a little tight in the room but sufficient for our one night stopover. The breakfast was sufficient to set us up for our days driving. Would also like to recommend and pass on our thanks to the \"Sur Le Port\" restaurant, which is a few yards away. The food was fantastic, reasonably priced and the service was excellent. Would definitely stay again when we visit Marseile for a little longer next time.

This hotel is in a great location. As a newcomer tourist, I found everything I wanted to visit was within a very short walk. The desk people were super-helpful, and the deck on the roof--available anytime--is an extra bargain because you can take some food and a drink up if you want to economize a bit, and at night when the bar is on, it's a great little scene. I have already told my friends that the Hermes represented great value, especially given the location. My room even had a bit of a sea view.

The rooftop bar is great. The breakfast was decent. The bathrooms are awful. In particular the showers. It's an old property and that's to be expected, but know it going in. It's in a great location and a fine place to stop over in Marseille for a night. I wouldn't want to be there multiple nights.

Best view in Marseille

Awesome value for the Old Port area. The rooftop terrace literally can't be beat in the area. The rooms are very small (it's in a historic section of a European city, after all) but the service is excellent, it's close to the Metro, and again…that rooftop view is incredible.

Location!

Very drub and weird. Doors in the bathroom or room don't close. Nasty gray small towels (not even hand towel). When we asked for one (got a weird look) , they gave it to us and removed next day without replacing it. Don't eat at a restaurant around the corner- disgusting! Location an Roof Terrace are best features of this hotel. Will stay there again , but with my own towels.

Visited this hotel for 2 nights last week. Really
Enjoyed it. It was in a great location right on the port where we are most of our meals as there was a lot of different options for food and small gift shops as well. Free WiFi that worked in the rooms as well as a good working AC unit in the rooms. The room was small as well as the shower but as that seemed to be the French style for the most part it was bearable. Thanks for a nice stay!

Really nice hotel in a great location, room was very quiet.Decent breakfast available which can be taken up to the rooftop terrace. The terrace is always open and has great views over the port, perfect for an early evening drink.
Shower was a little compact with a screen only covering half of it so the bathroom floor got a little wet.

The room I had was very basic and just fine if you are looking for just a place to sleep, not somewhere to spend any time. No frills.

Myself and my partner had a great 2 night stay in May. The hotel was right next to the port, and all of the staff were really nice and friendly, even allowing us to check in a couple of hours early. The rooftop terrace was great and had a really wonderful view of the port. Our room was spacious and clean, the bed was really comfortable - it had air-con and we even got 2 pillows each (which in our experience of French hotels is rare). If we were to visit Marseille in the future we would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

What a fantastic location! This hotel is right on the port and close to the Ferris wheel, harbor, many restaurants and bars and within walking distance to nearly every thing in Marseille. The employees were awesome, very nice and super helpful and the room was clean and the AC worked beautifully along with great wifi and tv. The bonus is the rooftop terrace to get beautiful views of the area. Loved my stay and would definitely go back.

The hotel situation could hardly be better - 10 steps from the port. The price is quite high for 2 star but Marseille prices are higher than elsewhere and given situation of hotel probably acceptable.

Only hotel with terrace overlooking Le Vieux Port

I booked the hotel as the only one in the area with a rooftop terrace, which, indeed, it had. The view from there was spectacular, but it was a little too breezy to eat breakfast up there. There had once been a bar up there, but not now, just some tables and chairs. The hotel didn't mind us buying a G and T from the bar next door and taking them \" up on the roof\" for a romantic tincture.
Still, the hotel was ideally situated, just metres from Le Vieux Port, and with plenty of places to eat and drink adjacent. The room was, as they say, petite and bijou, but spotlessly clean, with a view from the window of the harbour; double glazed and air con, with a comfy bed, we had a good night's sleep.
A special word for the lovely receptionist; she was utterly charming and helpful, so full marks for her. We would stay again.....wish they had a bar though!

Hotel is clean and modern albeit our room was on the small side, having said that it was good value for money.

Staff were very friendly and all spoke good English.

Nice hotel just off old port

Hotel Hermes is a good hotel steps away from the busy thoroughfare of the Old Port, close to the metro and buses (60 and 83) that will take you to the major sites. The rooms are bright and clean, and the air conditioning magical after spending the day seeing the sights under the hot, baking sun. The only downside is the tiny shower cubicles in a fair sized bathroom - being of shortish stature, it somehow still endeavoured to make me feel all elbows and awkward, banging against scorching taps and walls. There are rooms with baths, so I am assuming those would be the choice of people as ungraceful as or taller than me!

The front desk staff speak some English and are really helpful, pointing out the best ways to get to places and the areas of interest.

Nice Little Hotel Close to Everything

I've stayed at many hotels in this price range in Marseille. This is one of the best. Very convenient to Vieux Port activities, city hall, Metro, and restaurants. My fourth floor room had a nice view of the harbor, but the rooftop view is fantastic. The room is simple, but very clean, modern, and comfortable. I will be staying here during my next trip to Marseille in June.

This is a no-frills sleeping hotel: small, clean room & bath, no lobby amenities, no bar etc. BUT the location in the Vieux Port is convenient, the area is safe (well lit with a lot of foot traffic), the roof-top terrace is a great place to relax and picnic, and the views are fantastic. The desk staff was very helpful and congenial. I would definitely book this hotel again.

Hotel was spotless, bed was very comfortable, bathroom was sparkling, air-con was powerful. The only (very minor) negative was that there was an unsightly stain on the carpet in the bedroom, so maybe the hotel should think about a quick shampoo! We could see the port from our window and we used the terrace on the top of the hotel which had an amazing view and lots of chairs and loungers to relax on. The hotel is right next to the Panier district and an easy walk from the shops, the metro and tourist areas. The staff were very friendly. We had a lovely time there and would definitely use the hotel again.

The bad...
The rooms are very small and in the room we had there was a peculiar smell, also the walls are paper thin and there are lots of stains on the carpet. The morning staff who ran the breakfast were more interested in their personal phones rather than ensuring coffee and service is available.

Rooms are basic but very clean, brightly appointed and in great condition. Bathroom is fine, with a fairly small shower. The desk is very small so this is not a business hotel.

Windows open fully over the street and you can look down the street to the lovely harbour. Roof terrace receives loads of sun and has a stunning view over the harbour.

Would happily use again for a short break.

Good hotel for a couple

This hotel is excellent for people who want to stay in the heart of the city center. The hotel is in great condition and staff is very friendly. The best thing is that the windows are double glass so you can sleep well in this busy area. The only problem is that the rooms are very tiny. I stayed in other hotels in the area and compared to them, Saint is much much better and cleaner. I would stay again there.

Great location and fab roof terrace

Lovely hotel. Staff exceedingly helpful. Great location. Room 201 has a lovely view of the harbour. Aircon heavenly in the sweltering heat of Marseille Roof top terrace is a god send providing a nice spot for breakfast or just crashing out on the sun loungers watching the world go by. Highly recommended.

Hotel Hermes great

The hotel Hermes was near the old harbour and the view was spectacular, especially at night. It was a great location and very helpful staff.
