The restaurant was closed at the time of our visit. It was difficult to find somewhere to eat. That is the only negative i have. The owner was a true southern gentleman and so welcoming as well his staff. I plan to visit again this summer.

Wi-Fi didn’t work, called front desk and they said they couldn’t do anything. Picture on advertisement shows beautiful mansion, but you actually don’t stay in it, but rather in average bungalows. You could hear the sounds of the people staying above on the 2nd floor. Location is pretty remote.

The property has amazing history and the people at the desk, and the people who made up our room were so kind. The friends who came to see the place with us wanted to stay the night and couldn't even though there were only 2 parties staying in the house. There were plenty of rooms available, but we were told \"corporate won't allow one night stays.\" It was fun being able to access the main house, and watch the barge traffic from the balcony, as an overnight guest. The restaurants and bar are closed so I wouldn't call it a resort. More of an in-home stay like a vacation rental.

Check in was cumbersome. Paper work to be filled out duplicated all on-line details. Why a piece of paper with security questions including Credit Card confidential numbers? Restaurant is closed indefinitely, not informed until arrival. Nearest restaurant was 20 miles away

This property is beautiful! We loved our cottage and enjoyed our stay. The view of the pond was perfect and we loved the furnishings plus front porch rocking chairs!

Understanding that this property is large with many areas to maintain, we still felt like it had some areas that needed updating or attention. The grounds are beautifully kept, but the pool area looked abandoned and an old swing was in disrepair, the movie room was inoperable as well.

Unused areas seemed like storage spaces, but those rooms could be cleared or staged for viewing guests.

All of that said, the needed updates would not deter us from staying there again in the future. It’s a Diamond in the rough, and I’m hopeful that since we are now past Covid, more visitors will choose to stay at this antebellum treasure.

Happy Nottoway has reopened. Understand it's a slow process to reach the level of hospitality once enjoyed there. Please manage more responsibly. We hosted family and wedding couple there Labor Day weekend. Cheese plates requested and paid for were never delivered. One couple moved on first review of their room. Son & granddaughter were consistently checked out of his room and had to be rechecked the entire weekend. No complaints from the newlyweds. Love is bliss. They stayed their wedding night before leaving for honeymoon. Please bring back Nottoway full speed again. It is a cherished & respected respite for locals and tourists.

My dream weekend!❤️

We enjoyed a great girls weekend at Nottoway. The property is beautiful. They just reopened as a resort and the restaurant and bar was under staffed but Whitney went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The tour by Brock was beyond awesome. We toured 4 plantations and he was the most engaged and knowledgeable by far. We can’t wait to return for a couples weekend soon!

Nottoway

We love Nottoway. It seems since Covid the place needs some TLC. They are having trouble keeping employees... not necessarily their fault.
Some of the areas could use a good cleaning/paint. But the charm of Nottoway is still there.
The employees in the restaurant were professional even though several were new employees. The food was good. Please make a reservation to eat at the restaurant...we received bad information...\"you don't need a reservation\" to eat at the restaurant.
We are hoping on our next visit things are improved. This really is a charming place.

The clerk at the desk was unable to login to find my reservation. He dealt with a manager in the phone. This process went in for over an hour. There were no clean rooms, so the manager ghat had been texting with the clerk came to clean a room for us. Upon checkout, I was told that my credit card was charged for the room because the payment was not received from Expedia. This was done without discussion or notification.
The room was nice. The property was beautiful. The pool gate was open, but the pool was green. There was a hot tub cover, but no hot tub. The clerk was unaware if the restaurant was going to be open

Beautiful place and nicely kept.

The front desk - both times I went wanted nothing to do with being helpful. They were rude, unfriendly, the day shift basically refused to hang up on her personal call until after waiting for several minutes I just started to look at her. No historian on site- I get it, but no one even bothered to listen to the one question I had about Nottoway, so I didn’t even ask it. I wanted a print from the gift shop, sign said they were behind the desk- clerk said “we don’t have that”- no surprise there. The property is amazing the front desk/ visitors area help is a joke. Both times I went, two separate employees.

Mom/daughter getaway

Our stay at Nottoway was fantastic. The house is gorgeous as well as the grounds and very well maintained. The food in the restaurant was great. Our house tour guide, Brandi, is a natural at her job....not only adorable but her sense of humor engages visitors into the history of the property. The one and only disappointment was that in a 56,000 square foot house you don’t get to see very much of it. I thinking opening up more of the house and taking guests into places where other plantations tours don’t, would set this home in a league if it’s own. We really enjoyed every moment of our stay and would definitely stay there again and again. Loved it!!!

Beware - room description misleading

The room is described on the website as \"Classic Double Room, Multiple Beds, Non Smoking, Garden Area\" and that the bed choice as \"1 Large Single Bed and 1 Queen Bed\" whereas in fact the en suite room has but one double bed only, so suitable solely for couples. When raised with Reception, their response was that different rooms on offer in this 3 storey building had different bed provision! Pictures on room description now removed from website - but these were misleading when we booked! In practice, rooms are within a converted 3 storey house with modest sound insulation - footsteps in room above very clearly heard. That said bed was comfortable and room was clean and of a fair size, though plug mechanism on wash basin not working and curtains were difficult to draw fully. Service at dinner was perfunctory. Highly unlikely that we would stay again if in the area - despite great welcome at check-in (the best part of our stay!).

An Experience to Remember

We planned a visit here for one night before heading into New Orleans for the Mardi Gras weekend. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a cabin when they found out there were four of us. The cabin was spacious and clean, we just wished that it had more comfortable beds - they were a bit too soft-sided. The grounds here are beautifully maintained and the restaurant had great service and delicious food - you must try the rosemary bread if you visit. We watched the movie about the history of Nottoway in the in-site cinema. We liked that it was self-start so we didn’t have to wait. We toured the home on our own and were fascinated with the preservation of it all. It was a true educational experience; however, my suggestion for the resort is to have more history about ALL the people who deserve credit for the history of the plantation. We felt like there should have been greater acknowledgement and respect regarding the slaves who contributed so much to the economy and welfare of the area while doing so against their will. While we cannot erase the injustice and cruelty of the past, it should not be ignored and needs to be addressed as a part of the whole story of Nottoway.

The plantation itself is beautiful and the landscaping is phenomenal. Our room was not so desirable as we were in the \"Garden\" Villa and our room was essentially in the old attic. The space was clean but there were numerous lady bugs throughout and it is somewhat misleading as the full size bed is in a separate room across an open landing from the twin bed and bathroom. The landing is open to the 2nd floor and in the event there are guests on the second floor they would be able to see you crossing from your bedroom to the bathroom, thereby eliminating privacy.

Too pricey for simple service.

I was not aware of my room not having a microwave but when requested i was told that the bellman was going to bring to fhe room. After calling over a 3 hour time span i was recommended to come down and use the office microwave but im in the Garden Room upstairs, so its a bit of a walk in the crisp night air with food. The heat and air system was not working properly causing a restless night. The next morning at check out i was told other suites had them not mine. I felt played on my experience there. So yeah.

Beautiful Plantation; Horrible Front Desk Service

When we arrived, the front desk person told us they did not have our reservation. Despite, showing her my Hotels.com confirmation email, we were unable to get the room we originally reserved in the Cottage House. We were told that room was no longer available. She explained that this sometimes happens with third party bookings. Fortunately, she did honor our original quoted pricing. We were placed in the only room available with two double beds in the Carriage House. Although the room was nice, it was not the room we originally booked. Our overall stay was nice and the grounds were beautiful, however, the check-in process pretty much soured our first impression. When we checked out, the front desk person told us they could not print or email the receipt. She explained that since they forecasted hurricane Barry, which never made landfall, their computer system has not been working properly. She offered to take a picture of her computer screen, using my phone of course. Despite the plantation grounds being amazingly beautiful, I do not believe I would stay there again.

My stay was Amazing. Truly sad that I didn’t pay the extra to stay in the Master Suite. Stayed on the 2nd floor, room was enormous. Full of amazing period treasures including a clawfoot tub, antique armoire & dresser set, & fireplace (which although not functional was still Amazing). Was a little warm as the wall ACs quite outdated, little space fan they placed in the room did wonders when placed on a nightstand & faced right at the bed. Linens were crispy clean. You really felt right at home. The only really disappointing parts of my room were A. that even though the listing said I shared a Veranda with room 15, the windows do not open to do so. There are rockers on it, but no way to access them. B. the TV is only about 19”, from 15 ft away where the bed is located, you really have to crank it to hear & see it. There’s a Tour of the Mansion that does cost extra. Tour was lovely. The Breakfast buffet each morning has a pretty decent selection for $14. My table neighbors did try to order off of the Breakfast menu, but were told the Chef was not doing Breakfast outside of the Buffet. Very odd for a Saturday morning with a full house. My breakfast pastries with unlimited bacon were enjoyed it immensely. I did not take part in a Dinner at the Restaurant as the Dress Code is Dress Casual & I packed only Quirky Bohemian for my 5 day tour of the Deep South. Grounds were lovely, Garden mostly to seed already. Did notice that there may be staffing issues.

Very nice property but we had no time for pool, massage or other offerings. We stayed in one of the cabins that had double queen beds. The beds were comfortable. However the refrigerator didn’t work. When we called to report it, there was no offer to fix it or bring a new one. Maybe the person that my friend talked to didn’t understand that because she asked where we could get ice after that. The tub had several hairs in it and the sink had some purple hair rinse left on the edge. Overall we were a little disappointed.

This is a beautiful property and one reason we chose this property was to have a chance to stay the night at a plantation house. The grounds are beautiful and after a walk around the grounds sitting on the porch was really nice. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and our tour was excellent. A wonderful place to visit.

Nottoway Plantation is a unique, historic property. I especially loved the oaks registered with the Live Oak Society. We stayed in a room in the Garden/Overseer’s House. The room had been updated but there were still very few electrical outlets for our phones and tablets, the small refrigerator didn’t work but otherwise the room was comfortable for one night.

the grounds were lovely, views of the house
free tour of the house as guest (although we missed the time)

However - we specifically booked 2 adults and 2 children and contacted thsm through expedia messaging before habd to double check yhey had the correct booking but there was a bed missing on arrival - they supplied a folding bed.
the room smelt musty. curtsins around bath looked old and dirty. the net curtains were ripped.
the pool area was nice however there were no towels available left abd it is not heated.
note: breakfast is not included.

This is not a 4 star hotel they advertise themselves to be. We sure did nit have that 4 star experience. I understand the hotel is old but ripped off curtains, dust and dirt have nothinh to do with it beibg old, its just bad housekeeping.
No signs that the rooms are private. I spoke to another lady who stayed in the hotel and she had the same experience as us - people trying to get into pur rooms thibkibg its part if the \" tour\" and aslo some teting to open our door at night.
Loud noice in the middle of the night from the restaurant downstairs cleaning up. Our neighbour compained and so did we than the noise stopped. It was 11:30 at night, woke us up and it was hard to fall back sleep.
Not thw experience you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
The property is very beautiful so its worth stopping there, even though their tour was weak cimpare to other plantation tours ( yet they charge the same price for it as the plantatiins who go out of their way to provide you great tour experience ).

An unforgetable stay! We were in the main house in a 4-poster bed overlooking the Mississippi - which was great. The antique furniture was lovely, although being English it's not as special as it would be otherwise. The grounds were picturesque, especially at night with the lights in the trees and flowerbeds. And it was nice to be able to wander around the house after all the crowds had gone. But it's funny the standard things in a hotel room that you take for granted, some of which were different or missing - bedside tables and bedside lights; the floors were bare wooden boards, so we were conscious of not making too much noise for the room below us, the shower was disorienting as the shower curtain was too long and suspended from the ceiling (so it wobbled when the bath didn't). Overall a great experience, but we were glad it was for 1 night and not more.

The property and grounds were beautiful. Everything was so well maintained and in great condition. We stayed in the large cabin by the pond and it was perfect for what we needed. Dinner at the restaurant was very good, on par with any fine dining around and in Louisiana that is saying something! The staff was gracious and friendly and we would definitely go back.

Great Plantation Resort

Stayed here for 1 night while travelling around the plantation house area. Booked a 2 queen carriage house room. Room was very spacious, comfortable beds, lots of pillows. Bathroom was spacious and clean. The only downside was being so close to the railway and hearing the trains horns through the night and morning constantly.

The Nottoway Plantation is a beautiful piece of history and a gorgeous old house. However, the place is in need of some TLC; Paint, clean windows, cleaning up the property of straws, wrappers, cups, etc.is in dire need. We found other plantations with a more alert and caring staff in employment. I

Nottoway could be better maintained

Rain coming down in buckets with no shelter on path to room. Luggage and humans soaking wet when arrived in room. After a short nap, awakened with dead lady bugs on the bed. Upon investigation bugs were coming out of the light fixture. Reported condition to staff, during dinner in the restaurant, advised we could move to another room but no assistance would be provided. We repacked our luggage and moved to room downstairs. We were offered cottage facilities but still raining buckets we opted to stay in main building to avoid soaking. Went shower next morning, had second thoughts, the shower had large areas of black mold, stepping out of shower onto a large loose tile that teetered underfoot, dangerous to say the least. Next morning at check-out, the staff apologized for the conditions we underwent and asked did we enjoy breakfast in the restaurant where the desk left complimentary vouchers for us. I said \"no one advised of such vouchers\". She replied, \"Well I didn't won't to wake you\". At 9 am, most travelers would be up and around. The restaurant stopped serving breakfast a 10 am or so, so I didn't understand the \" didn't won't to wake you\" comment. We like historical hotels and such for lodgings, this is not a Knock on older facilities, this is a statement of POOR MAINTENANCE and thoughtless staff at this beautiful setting of historical significance, which should be better maintained for their guests. Having toured Nottoway several years ago, I was heart-broken.
