Lovely location (beautiful views!) with amazing staff (shout out to Ghislaine!). It is a bit expensive and things like the bike and scooter rentals are add-ons as well, but this is what I'd expect in an isolated area like this. Do recommend!

Let me preface, I’m not one to rate any stay. We have been around the world and seen many properties in our day. The 5 nights we were there were good. Just good. The staff was friendly but not very accommodating. It happened to be a stay where the hotel appeared to running only 20% full occupancy which was amazing to feel like we had the whole place to ourselves.

The Bad: The property is a bit run down and needs some upgrades. The pillows were shot and lumpy. Ice to the room was not an option and we had to get it from the bar every day. We asked for an umbrella on our deck and was told no.

The Good: The restaurant was one of the most phenomenal and most delicious meals we have tasted ever tasted. Whoever is the chef, hats off to an amazing menu and staff.

The dive center was also amazing and got to try scuba diving for the first time.

Overall, glad we make the trip to this island and happy to experience the property but it’s a one and done.

We had an amazing stay at this hotel Kia Ora Resort &Spa in Rangiroa and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island. The service was outstanding from start to finish — the staff were warm, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed.

The on-site restaurant was excellent, offering a great menu with delicious food and a variety of breakfast options that we really enjoyed each morning. The view from the property is absolutely beautiful — perfect for relaxing and taking in the peaceful surroundings.

Our room was very clean and well maintained. For those who prefer more privacy and quiet, I’d definitely suggest choosing one of the villa with a private pool — they offer a lovely secluded experience while still being close to everything. If you stay in a beach bungalow, be aware that you can hear the ocean waves at night — it’s quite soothing for some, but sometimes can get a bit loud.

Overall, it was a perfect mix of comfort, great food, and genuine hospitality. We can’t wait to come back!

Food was delicious. On Sundays and Wednesdays they have BBQ buffet and Polynesian musicians and dancers. Very entertaining. Room was exceptionally clean. Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful sunset views. There is a gift shop, but no real convenience store, so if you want snacks the closest store, depending on the day is either a mile or 7 miles away(14 round trip). Long trek on foot or on a bicycle but scenery is beautiful, so not so bad. Staff at the resort and the locals we met were always smiling and helpful, made for a very enjoyable trip.

The property was clean, beautiful, and well kept. The dock onsite was super helpful in not needing to meet at a different location for excursions.

However…the dining set up is tricky. There are limited times the bar and restaurant are open. Also, there is a Polynesian night on Wednesday and sundays in which there is no other dining option available, and you must spend the $85/person if you want to eat at the resort. And there are not many other options on the atoll. Also, if you want to get bikes you have to pay, even on these Polynesian nights. This was crazy. We didn’t eat dinner one night because of this. There are also no snacks offered at the store. So go the buffet or don’t eat…

Majority of staff is nice. There is however one older lady who works in the bar and front desk who harassed me and my family numerous times. She was disrespectful and rude upon arrival, throughout the stay, and when leaving. It seems like the staff are over worked and understaffed. Never saw any staff turnover. They all seemed exhausted.

After spending upwards of $1000/night this unacceptable

My wife and I stayed at the Kia Ora while in Rangiroa for our honeymoon. The staff welcomed us early with complementary drinks and congratulated us, which we really appreciated. The suite was amazing, with the small swimming pool that we got to enjoy daily. The restaurant was very good, with one of the best breakfasts we have had in our trip, and the lunch/dinner options were wide. Every few days the hotel also had some shows for dinner. We also had a couple of activities via the hotel, which were very well organised and enjoyable. Will definitely come back here next time we're around!

Amazing underrated hotel with fantastic snorkeling. We stayed in a villa. Snorkeled right off the beach. Booked unforgeable excursions from the hotel. We stayed in bora bora at one of the resorts on a motu prior to our visit. While we liked it rangiroa and kia ora was our favorite. Felt much more authentic. 5/5.

Of the 5 luxury resorts we have been to in French Polynesia, this is our favorite because it is very nice, very quiet and very relaxing. While is it not as luxurious as the 5 star resorts in Bora Bora - it isn't as expensive or busy. We never waited for a table for a meal and always found open loungers by the pool. The staff were all gracious and friendly. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place with great food.

Avoid the Beach Bungalow

Our experience at the hotel significantly impacted what was otherwise an amazing trip to Rangiroa. First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the staff, they were warm, friendly, and provided excellent service. Our issue lies not with them, but with the condition of the accommodations, which is something the property’s investor or management needs to seriously address.

We stayed in a beach bungalow, which felt extremely outdated, as if nothing had been updated in decades. The furniture, mattress, and bedding were worn and uncomfortable. The bathroom had a persistent humidity issue and an unpleasant odor, likely from years of use without renovation.

While we understand the hotel is set in a natural environment, the level of pests inside the room was unacceptable, especially for a property charging $500 per night. We encountered cockroaches, ants on countertop and sofa, and never-ending number of mosquitoes inside the room. Despite using repellents, I woke up with new bites each morning. We later heard from other guests staying in beach bungalows that they experienced similar issues.

I read the reviews after our stays and found comments from years ago mentioning the exact same problems, which makes it clear that management is aware but has chosen not to make necessary improvements. Perhaps we were unlucky to book the beach bungalow, as other room types appeared newer and better maintained.

If you must stay at this hotel, do not stay in the beach bungalows.

Lovely resort. We had an ocean view hut with hot tub. We enjoyed it very much. We snorkeled right off the beach. There is only one restaurant. It's lovely but pricey especially the drinks ( averaging $15-25). Other local eateries are snack places. Not bad but limited menus. Don't miss snorkeling the aquarium and drifting the pass

The view from our ocean facing room with pool was amazing. The room did not have windows however which made it hot at night but also very loud from the waves crashing during a storm. Even with ear plugs it was loud. Would love to have had some more gluten free food options and the food overall was just ok. Didn’t see abetter hotel option on the island and the diving we were able to do made the trip with the stay.

10/10 Recommend! Most amazing experience!

Kia Ora was nothing short of amazing!! The property is so beautiful, the employees happy & helpful, and the food is beyond delicious. We ate every single meal on site because it was just THAT good. They shuttled us to and from the airport which made things simple and rented us a car for a few hours to explore the motu hassle-free. We 10/10 recommend and will return!

The most beautiful resort you can imagine. Off the beaten track but well worth the extra flight, with stunning variety of marine life right next to your room (overwater bungalow). Close to world-class scuba-diving spots also. Restaurant and bar were wonderful with highlight being cocktails at sunset and the Polynesian buffet/entertainment evenings. Service was always impeccable.

Beautiful setting amongst groves of palm trees, with good swimming/snorkeling. Beach-front bungalow was great for lounging by the water (loved the hammocks), though wish room was better lit and had AC that worked in both rooms.

This is a very remote location, so best if you really like to dive and snorkel. Not many places to go to, or other restaurants. Blue lagoon trip was great on a quiet sea day.

With the leaky wood loovered side windows, there was so much air leakage that we never got cool. AC was underpowered for that.

Overwater bungalow was fabulous. Very pricey so we just stayed two nights there and additional nights in a garden bungalow, reviewed elsewhere. Still cheaper than Bora Bora. This overwater experience was well worth it for once in our lives. The ten units are laid out in a long arc around a big coral garden that is great for snorkeling though not many from the garden bungalows seem to realize it’s there. Literally hundreds if not thousands of fish of all sizes and colors. Watch from the dock, watch via snorkel, take your pick. And then you get to the room with that glass window in the floor to watch the show below your unit! A giant school of foot long fish seemed to hang out all the time under our unit. Except when the black tipped shark came through. Or the gang of small (young?) dolphins came around to pick off the weakest or slowest in the herd. Nature in the raw. Jumping off the deck to swim was fun too, this old bird got to relive his childhood. Didn’t skinny dip but you could do it here. Snorkeling with the sharks, fish watching from your room, it was worth the price. The exquisite room was for me just the icing on the cake, though others might value the room more and fish watching less. Very large room with king bed and single day bed was very modern very elegant. Stylish furnishings everywhere. Real luxury. Big bathroom with bath and walk in shower. All in all a very pampered experience with that unique fish watching as well.

I get tired of writing reviews for Expedia but I can’t not commend this resort. It is pricey but do you know how far it is to the nearest alternative?? This is remote Polynesia. I have visited several of Tahiti’s islands, this place stands out for quality znd complete experience in a locale that makes that hard to pull off. Rooms are very nicely appointed for a real feeling of elegance. The grounds are a former palm tree plantation so you get a feel of how the old economy worked. Restaurant is absolutely wonderful for a combination of European American and Asian styles on top of Tahitian dishes. Activity center very helpful to go on lagoon cruises dolphin watching etc. staff is very multi lingual. Everyone speaks at least English and French. We stayed in both a garden bungalow and the overwater bungalow. Both excellent but the overwater experience is really something to behold at least once in your life. And cheaper here than Bora Bora.

Hotel was conveniently located close to the airport. The property was beautiful, however needs improvement as far as the rooms go. Mattresses are terrible and the bedding is most likely the original. There were stains on the comforter and it made it difficult to sleep on. It looks like they updated the bathroom area and that was nice. A/C was perfect!
There was also a lot of burning of trash and debris that brought in thick smoke everyday. It was nauseating.

Kia Ora was absolutely fantastic in every way! The staff is the most friendly and kind staff you will find! This was our 2nd trip staying at Kia Ora and opted for the overwater bungalow this time at the recommendation of another reviewer. Definitely less bugs staying in the overwater bungalow! We missed having a hot tub this time, but it was a trade off as the views were better and as stated less bugs! The only thing that could make the property better in my opinion would be if the overwater rooms had hot tubs as well! Our stay was 10 out of 10 and we didn’t want to leave! Can’t wait to come back!!! Mauruuru!!!

The location is beautiful and the hotel never seemed over burdened with too many guests. They did a good job with the food considering their access to supplies and ingredients (best, not to go into the tuomotus thinking you'll get the best meals of your life). The service was great. We even left our kindle in our room the day we left and Heidi (sp) made a point to deliver it to us (before we realized it was missing) at the airport just before we took off. We'd recommend the booking the \"aquarium\" and drift snorkel from the hotel even if you are an avid scuba diver. This was an easy, relaxing and exciting experience with lots of black top sharks, large eels, countless fish and very large spotted eagle rays with 100 feet (33 meters) of visibility.

Lovely small resort on a gorgeous turquoise lagoon

My husband and I spent 5 glorious nights in a villa with private pool and garden. The villa was huge with a traditional Polynesian style design. We had an amazing private deck with a good size plunge pool, lounge chairs and a covered seating area with table, chairs and couch. Outdoor shower and bathtub set in a completely private walled garden. Truly fabulous, I honestly was relieved to NOT be in an overwater bungalow as they did not have nearly the peace and privacy that our villa had. We could see the swaying palms during the day and the stars at night.
The staff were excellent, friendly and efficient and lots of activities to be arranged for you from the hotel. The full day Blue Lagoon tour by boat is a must, worth every penny. We enjoyed biking around the flat island (it was hot but no hills:) and exploring the small villages. Loved the Gaugin Pearl Farm tour and the wine tasting at Vin de Tahiti.
The hotel will evidently undergo a major renovation soon adding many overwater bungalows which will greatly change the unique small resort feel. Too bad, as what makes this a special place to visit is that it is relatively unspoiled, not full of huge resorts.

Our dream honeymoon

Rangiroa Kia Ora was incredible. From the room, to the food, to the service and the activities they offer. I had high expectations for our honeymoon and our trip met every one of them. As an LA foodie and having fairly luxury tastes and standards, I guarantee you will enjoy your stay! Make sure to work with the activities desk to plan an excursion to the blue lagoon and another to coral reef. Also have them set up a trip to the wine cellar and pearl farms. Give yourself some time to snorkel and walk the shore on your own (10 min walk up the street to Tiputa pass, you will see dolphins jumping in the waves). If you’re cocktail people like us, Taïna the bar tender is a beautiful person inside & out who goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. The hotel restaurant has something for every taste and is high quality, special shout out to the morning buffet!! If you’re looking for a sign or you’re on the fence, this is it, you will not regret your choice.

We had the most wonderful time in Rangiroa. The resort was incredible, the staff were wonderful, and the diving exceeded everything we hoped for. My only critique is that the food options are limited and not super impressive…just okay. For such a remote island, it isn’t a complaint, just something to be aware of. We would absolutely return in the future.

Feeling to be ripped off.

Very disappointed for this price range to encounter such a old and not maintained hotel.
When on all the hotels of this beautiful Island the bikes are free to hire. In this hotel you have to pay 15$ for 2h!
The pool wasn’t usable for our all stay, it was brown.
The staff is really nice but not trained properly.
The furnitures in the room and the outside furnitures, sunbeds… date from 1990.
The food wasn’t good and the prices are high.
The snack menu is limited to 3 sandwiches.
When you charge this kind of money you expect a good service and amenities. Which is really not the case here.
The diving club in the hotel is 2 times more expensive than any other club on the island.
Save your money for somewhere worthing ot.

Great Location & Nice Overall But Be Warned

This was our 2nd island visit during our 3 island trip; we stayed for 3 nights starting 12/15/21. Booked a Villa with pool, #20. Very dated from the 70's, ant infestation in bathroom and on bed. Then upgraded to a overwater bungalow, #47 (which we enjoyed overall). But then a adjacent local island resident started burning trash; as the bungalow is not sealed with glass, only wood slats, the room and porch were not habitable. Fortunately, they stopped at sunset, but started again mid-morning forcing us to go to the the beach area by the restaurant. Management appeared powerless to help. In general, this place was a letdown, particularly having just come from the Pearl Taha'a resort which had excellent customer service and hospitality most importantly. The management and staff attitude was lacking. The clincher was the general manager, Gerard. This sounds crazy, but we accidentally discovered our room key opens bungalow #46; we were in a hurry to grab something and accidentally went to the wrong one and went inside! Thankfully, no one was there. The doors are not as clearly marked as they could be, only on the wall leading up the ramp. Gerard seemed indifferent to our security concerns and suggested it has been this way for 10-11 years, blamed the locksmith, tried to teach us how a lock works (seriously!), then walked away from us as he had a meeting in the restaurant. Turns out, he had a romantic date. At check out, we were told he didn't want to speak to us.

True Paradise!

This resort is absolutely stunning. We stayed in an overwater bungalow and it was heavenly—our own deck, dock, and a very well appointed room. We also had AC, and it actually worked well (unlike other places we’ve stayed in French Polynesia). The food was excellent, the Blue Lagoon tour was incredible, and the drift snorkeling was so cool. Our *only* complaint were the beds. They were extremely soft and bouncy, and one side of ours was permanently caved in. For the price, I would have expected better.

Loved it

We were in an over-water bungalow, so very comfortable and private, and snorkeling from our deck, plus a warm shower right there on the deck upon return. Great view across the lagoon from any of the bungalows. Lots of nearby water activities, easy to access through the hotel. Manager told us owners have plans to close for up to two years for an upgrade to a full 5-star hotel. As it stands it's already pretty great... could use some repairs, etc. including more variety in restaurant; but overall it's an excellent place right now.

Best in Rangiroa

Spacious and well appointed villa, which had a great yard with a covered lounging area, as well as a (very small) pool. Beautifully set restaurant and bar. Food was ok - definitely upper end for Rangiroa, although not really for French Polynesia as a whole. Good range of activities, with a conveniently located (though separately run) dive shop on the property. A little nickel and dime-y with bicycle rentals, etc, although snorkeling equipment is provided free of charge. All in all, almost certainly the most luxurious option on the atoll, although will probably not blow you away relative to offerings on the Society Islands

Could be so much better - Loved my villa.

Five major things I had a big problem with: 1. Food - horrible - witnessed waitress take bread from customers that left and reuse the bread for next customer, flies on bread and food buffet, 2. Gym - Horrible, 3. Bed - Old mattress where you sink in and wake up with a back ache, 4. Wifi - almost none existing especially for those that need to still do some work while on vacation or want to watch a movie online especially since the hotel does not have any english speaking tv channels except CNN !!! which leads me to 5. TV - no programming in english, no movies!!!
Who wants to watch disgusting CNN news on their vacation? Depressing.
Pools were missing tiles and had chipped and cracked concrete.

Place needs TLC, has potential.

Private villa is spacious and fantastic. Loved our fenced private garden with pool, eating area and outdoor tub. Loved the water pressure in our shower and tub. Should have free bikes but hotel rents them. Bar is really nice over the water.

Wonderful property in a dreamlike location

Had a fabulous experience all around. The only complaint I have is how the restaurant’s waiter gave me a dirty look when he thought I was only ordering the $20 “starter” salad without an entree. There are only Nescafé instant coffee packets in the room, which is shocking in a place of that caliber. Guess they want you to get your coffee only in the restaurant.

Environment is beautiful. The beach and scenery is amazing. Access to beach and water was great. Hotel was not luxury but probably the better one on the island which is why they dont have to try hard. Food at the restaurant is overpriced and not great, not a single green vegetable. The buffet night was the best but it again not worth the price. Bathroom toilet stinks and sheets smell. Kinda like camping. Wifi was weak. Better food from local restaurants. Dont rent the stupid cars. Theres no where to drive to. Just walk or rent bike. Was there over a week and could only do two excursions because you need six people to sign up. So that sucked. Very few gluten free options. Not sure who owns this hotel but my suggestion for them is to modernize. But they have little competition on the island so i doubt they will.
