My wife and I spent two nights at the incredible Samanvaya Resort. Unfortunately this was at the end of our time in Bali, or we likely would have changed plans so we could stay longer. Everything was perfect, from the incredible restaurants to the views. Waking up in our own little villa overlooking the rice terraces was a special experience every morning. The staff deserve an 11/10, going the extra distance to help out at any opportunity.

Samanvaya is a truly special place — beautifully designed, set among stunning rice terraces, and run by people who clearly care deeply about both their guests and their community. The setting in Sidemen Valley feels authentic and connected to traditional Balinese life, and the resort’s focus on sustainability and giving back through their Support Sidemen program adds real meaning to the stay.

Our villa was serene and well kept, and the staff were consistently warm, attentive, and genuine — exactly the kind of hospitality that makes Bali unforgettable. The restaurant and pool areas overlook incredible scenery, perfect for slowing down and soaking it all in.

That said, during our stay there was some construction happening near the restaurant. Each morning around 8 a.m. we could hear hammering, which took a little away from the tranquility of the experience. But as anyone who’s spent time in Bali knows, there’s always some building going on — paradise never gets built silently.

Overall, Samanvaya remains a beautiful retreat, full of heart and purpose. Once the construction wraps up, it will be as peaceful as ever and well worth visiting for anyone wanting to experience the real Bali in comfort and calm.

Absolutely loved this hotel, sadly only stayed a couple of nights. The location is stunning and it's the perfect location to relax by the infinity pool. The food at the restaurant is amazing too and there is happy hour between 5-6pm every day with delicious cocktails that can be enjoyed by the pool. It feels very luxurious and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I suppose the only downside is that there aren't enough sun loungers if the hotel is busy, and the WiFi can be a bit patchy. Would definitely stay again if I'm in this part of the world again

Samanvaya was in a very clean and up and coming community. The dining at Asri was one of our favorites in all of Bali. The ambiance was incredible in the garden dining area. The food choices and tastes were some of the best we encountered in all of Bali. We could see ourselves coming back to Samanvaya with options to explore the nearby culture and natural wonders. Tami at the front desk was an absolute dream to work with.

Eco Luxury Overlooking Rice Fields in Old Bali

This hotel is amazing! Eco luxury tucked into quintessential old Bali. Gorgeous decor with infinity pools and Bali beds overlooking the rice paddies. Phenomenal food with wide variety of options and the included breakfast is to die for. The spa is immaculate and my treatment was other worldly; the Ananda signature massage with Shirodhana added… I will expand- it begins with an hour full body massage with warm oil. Then 30 minutes of reflexology and the warm oil dripping on your third eye While a therapist is massaging the oil into your head. Heaven!!!! The service is amazing; the kindest, most genuine staff who is always getting you everything before you even need it. We are in love with this hotel and would recommend it to anyone going to Sideman. Their initiative and care for the community and giving back is incredible and so noteworthy as well!

The Samanvaya was exceptional in every way. Sidemen is a dream and the hotel sits perfectly within this majestic landscape. The attention to detail at the hotel is beautiful- it has been designed so that at every turn there is a new vista, water feature or garden to enjoy. The food in the restaurant was exceptional for both breakfast and dinner and the trip out to visit a local home was both fascinating and welcoming. We have travelled to many places and sometimes you just find a hotel and location that delivers on every front. Thank you Samanvaya for a truly memorable stay. Abby and Steve

A piece of paradise

This is an incredible resort. It’s stunningly beautiful, sparkling clean, the rooms are incredible, unique designs, beautiful touches, amazing views. It’s lush and green with gorgeous landscaping, beautiful pools. The restaurant has great food and is absolutely beautiful. The spa is fantastic. But the best part of Samanvaya… the staff. The most kind, happy, genuine people. They can’t do enough to make your stay perfect.

At first we were m excited to stay here reading others’ reviews and seeing the pictures. But that quickly changed after we weren’t so sure and we were glad we only stayed 2 nights. It was quiet but nit all tunes because there is construction going on and it wasn’t relaxing swimming or relaxing next to hours of loud sounds of hammers for the new villas being built. Also while swimming, one the men was burning a stack of garbage(grass or rice or leaves) right in front of the property and pool so we couldn’t breathe properly and ended up coughing. We brought this to the attention of the management. Also, the room we got Kaya 2 villa had a broken key of the balcony and after checking in we spent a good hour or so dealing with that snd also with the fact that when our room balcony doors were closed there was a huge gap of about 2-3cm left open on both sides where bugs can get it. We brought this to the attention of the staff and they placed two wooden planks to block the open space. Despite that we still had bugs get into the room and bathroom since it is an semi open concept. The bed was comfortable to sleep in, but there is no desk, or proper chair to sit on in the room. There is no Tv, which I didn’t mind but maybe others might. The house next to us blasted loud music for the 2 nights we wre there till midnight so it was hard to sleep. Lots of stairs everywhere. The best thing was the food. Delicious breakfast and wonderful restaurant staff. Eat there, stay elsewhere.

I had an amazing stay at this hotel. The staff was so accommodating and the facility was stunning - very clean, quiet, and naturally beautiful. The on-site restaurant and spa service were also excellent. Free breakfast everyday was fresh and there were lots of options. I also enjoyed dinner there too with the staff who were so friendly and always remembered my preferences. I booked a waterfall and natural spring tour as well and my guide was very knowledgeable. We stopped at rice paddies on his scooter and he showed me around the village, which was wonderful. I felt very safe and comfortable during my entire stay, I wish I extended for more days.

Stayed at the rice barn, rightfully surreal as we are next to the rice fields, many bugs making noise at night but its part of the \"living in the field\" experience. Amazing...
Staff was super attentive, our needs were all met without a fitch.
We decided to purchase the hotel kimono 2hours before our check out, and they had it dry cleaned and washed in time for our check out. Service standards were awesome...

This place is simply magical...

Tami is a great host in welcoming us, walking us through our suite, accommodating to our special request to order an early breakfast, explaining what is available on the property (where the dinning hall is, how to call the reception desk from our suite, etc…). The entire staff is very professional and pleasant. I would recommend coming back and staying here for a few more days.

We stayed in one of the Alila rooms which was a lovely bamboo house with stunning views of the mountains.
The whole of Samanvaya was superbly clean. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful.
We were on our honeymoon and they made our stay extra special with a beautiful candle lit romantic dinner in our own private dining area with candles and a beautiful flower petal arrangement with our own butler for the evening - Agus who was very attentive and made our stay extra special and one we won’t forget.
We also had a 1 hour Balinese massage which was amazing and would recommend.
The food is superb. It looks amazing and tastes even better.
We didn’t really get to enjoy the outdoor and pool area as it was pretty rainy the 2 days that we stayed but it all looked inviting and would love to visit again so that we could make use of those facilities.
We would definitely recommend Samanvaya and we would love to go back too.

Saying this hotel has a spa is incorrect - it has a couple of treatment rooms for paid massages. My boyfriend and I had two 90 minute massages which were absolutely terrible and far above the standard Bali price point. I had the most inconsistent pressure with my masseuse - going back and forth between being barely touched and being in actual pain, there was no understanding of anatomy and the therapist tried to massage my boyfriends eyeballs out to the point of bruising the next day. I could not relax one bit and the much cheaper massages I had in Bali were far far better. I really recommend to avoid this ‘spa’ but the hotel itself is very pretty.

Samanvaya holds true to its name, it is truly luxury at its finest. From the villas, to the pools, to the staff and the restaurant, it’s is everything a resort and spa should be. The staff will go above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable and peaceful. The restaurant has an excellent menu and the food is well balanced and simply delicious. The resort is located right in the middle of the sidemen rice terraces, surrounded by lush green mountains. Every inch of the resorts is well thought out and cultivates relaxation. Will definitely be back for a longer stay.

If you ever wanted to live like Robinson Caruso...

This hotel is AMAZING. What makes it so special is the entire staff - I've felt so cared for while I was here. What also makes this place unique is that it's totally not a Western hotel - instead, you're staying inside a treehouse in the middle of a jungle with beautiful Balinese decor and rustic ambiance. If you're into trying something totally different and unforgettable - this place is for you. Some of the best food and spa experiences I had in Bali was here. Thank you to everyone at Samanvaya for a magical stay!

Great stay, speed up food service

Beautiful location and the bungalows and landscaping are striking. They care deeply about their property. My suggestion is the the service at the Rice Barn be faster and check in more. There were many times I needed/wanted something and could not find anyone nor did they check in. Because of this some meals were two hours long, which for a person traveling solo is much. Loved this place, though, and everyone was super friendly.

Stayed here with my wife as part of our honeymoon in Indonesia.
Had been tempted by reviews - were not disappointed!
Stunning setting with views over rice fields.
Lovely relaxing pool and hot tub areas.
Very friendly staff who were always on hand to help.
Lovely complimentary coffee and cake every afternoon.
Room was very comfortable and clean, particularly liked outdoor bathroom and shower.
We paid extra for the ‘honeymoon package’ which included a 3hr guided walk around the rice fields, 2hr couples massage, lunch, romantic dinner, and bottle of fizz on arrival. Would recommend!
Restaurant food and service very good.
A few minor issues:
- we paid for the cheapest type of room and it overlooks the pool - ie not very private. Wasn’t too much of an issue for us as we only stayed for two nights, but wouldn’t have been ideal for a longer stay. People in the pool area can see into your room with ease!
- music in the restaurant at lunch and dinner was soppy covers of Western songs - quite grating - much preferred the Indonesian music played at breakfast!
- had to pay a 3% card processing charge with our final bill - which, as this is a luxury resort, was quite a lot of money. Was a bit disappointed by this as paying the amount in cash wasn’t really feasible!
But overall this was a great stay in a beautiful hotel and we’d definitely come back.

Incredible stay at Samanvaya. Words can't describe how beautiful this property and it's surrounding is. Just breathtaking. Stayed here 2 nights for my boyfriend's birthday and the amazing staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay and his birthday was extra special. The complimentary breakfast was phenomenal. I have no complaints. Wished we could have stayed longer. Magical. Without question my favorite town and villa in Bali. Do yourself a favor and stay here.

This place is magical. The location is quiet and amazing (and full of the sound of frogs!), and the cottages are gorgeous. The owners are warm and welcoming and super helpful - and the entire staff team is wonderful. This was a highlight of my time in Bali - and I look forward to returning! Oooh get the smoothie bowl for breakfast - it’s amazing!!!

This was a beautiful hotel with excellent service. The view from the pool and lobby is insanely beautiful- overlooking the rice terraces in Sidemen. Our room was beautiful and we loved keeping the doors to our patio open to feel like we were sleeping outside. We got 2 massages and did a private yoga session with a priest. SUCH a great experience and stay at Samanvaya. I'd highly recommend this for your trip to the Sidemen area.

Great place to explore the real Bali

After attending a 3 day wedding in busy Seminyak and Uluwatu, our stay at Samanvaya in Sideman was a perfect way to relax and explore the 'real' Bali away from the hustle and bustle. We stayed in Champak lodge 1 which had a great 'indoor/outdoor' feel.

The staff were great and we really enjoyed the scooter tour and village tour that we did.

Ich bin schon viel gereist, aber ein so tolles Hotel in einer so fantastischen Lage kenne ich kein zweites. Sideman ist ein ruhiges Bergdorf mit einigen sehr guten Warungs. Das besondere ist jedoch die entspannte und ruhige Lage inmitten von Reisfeldern und mit Blick auf den Mount Agung. Der Service, die Ausstattung der Zimmer wie auch das Essen sind top. Alle Mitarbeitenden sind sehr freundlich und dienstleistungsorientiert.
Ich komme wieder.

Un bel établissement, calme, bien décoré, avec une vue magnifique sur les rizières.
Le restaurant est top pour un prix raisonnable et le personnel est adorable.
