Nice location, friendly staff, lovely food and pleasant outdoor areas to drink.
But I haven't ever experienced having to pay for parking at a countryside pub/hotel before. Don't really understand why it's free for restaurant guests but residents have to pay.
Breakfast was ok. A little tired looking with very limited choice, but what i had was nice.

Not a great start as i do not like Hotels that charge for parking unless its a City Centre location.....the Car Park here is huge. Even less impressed that i had to use an App to pay for the parking.....The fella on reception helped me sort it and things improved. Lovely Air Conditioned Bar and although the rooms did not have Air Con it was a huge benefit for us in the hot weather.
The food was superb and the friendly service provided by Donna matched the quality of the fare. I will be back.

We stayed at The Oakwood Hotel in Gloucester on Saturday night and had a lovely stay. We chose the hotel because of its excellent location for exploring the Cotswolds, and it turned out to be the perfect base for visiting beautiful villages such as Bibury, Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Upper Slaughter, and Lower Slaughter. Cardiff is also only around 1 hour and 15 minutes away by car.

From check-in to check-out, everyone was friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and offered free parking, which made our stay even easier. Having local shops nearby was also very convenient.

We were celebrating my daughter's birthday, and thanks to the nearby stores we were able to buy a cake and enjoy a small family celebration at the hotel. She enjoyed her stay so much that she made a swan from a towel and left it on the bed as a little thank-you to the housekeeping team.

As a father, there is nothing better than seeing your children happy, and this hotel helped make the occasion even more special. The breakfast was delicious, and the overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

I would happily recommend The Oakwood Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable base to explore the Cotswolds while enjoying friendly service and a relaxed family atmosphere.

The information regarding parking is misleading, as the ad suggests that parking is free, or included in the rate charged. The reality on arrival is very different, being presented with a nightly charge which must be paid on arrival. The suggestion that there is a full restaurant service is similarly misleading as, though the kitchen will supply a burger in the evening, which is a meat sandwich, they will not make you a fish finger sandwich, despite that being on the menu, as that is apparently not available after 1600. Several shades of ridiculous. Any hotel that actively refuses to provide what a paying customer demands does not deserve to survive in business. This place, despite the excellence of the other staff (not the kitchen) is now firmly on my “DO NOT STAY” list. Sad and so avoidable.

Nice enough, can tell it used to be a premier inn. The walks are very thin, floors creak a lot, they have refurbished the pub, but the rooms could do with a freshen up.
Smart tv was an unexpected bonus.
WiFi is fast for streaming Netflix etc.
parking was £5 for the night.
Overall would stay again if the price was right.

I've stayed here many times before for work. The prices have increased, and you now have to pay for parking on arrival. Sadly, the rooms remain tired and the beds aren't terribly comfortable. The staff are nice, but it's the little things that make you feel valued, and with the creeping prices, this hotel is increasingly looking less and less favourable when compared to other properties.

Hallways leading to the rooms were more like a youth hostel.
Stayed here before and thought it was ok then but this was worse and now with having to pay for parking and unfriendly staff means we wont be coming back again

Room could have done with an easy chair but was good otherwise. Hotel seems to pick its staff for their friendliness and helpfulness. Not a bad one amongst them. Plenty of choice at breakfast though evening meals were limited as awaiting new cooling facilities. Plenty of parking at front and back of hotel. Hotel location ideal for getting into Gloucester. Very pleased overall and would definitely use again.

You can tell the new owners have really invested in the hotel and with work continuing I can only imagine how nice this hotel will ultimately become. The public / entrance areas are extremely clean & welcoming and the front of hour staff could not be more friendly & helpful! The room, whilst slightly dated in terms of furniture was faultless, comfy bed, clean, choice of firm or ultra soft feather pillows (I felt this choice was a nice touch!). The Bar & Restaurant also looked pleasant but did not make use of them so cannot comment further.

Staff were welcoming and polite. Check in was a bit odd, as had pre-checked in, but this hasn't been processed at the time, so took a slightly long time, but this all went ok. The room was good for a base if you want to into Gloucester centre with bus stops very close by. The room was very clean and did everything we needed. Bathroom was clean, although a tiny bit of mold around the edges of the large mirror, for us not a problem and an easy clean. The furniture was a bit outdated, but did the job and the bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well. There was parking for cars, although we came by train but there are good transport likes. Overall, a great stay and thank you to the staff at the hotel.

I’ve stayed here quite a few times over the years. The staff are consistently welcoming and friendly. In particular, Harman has always been very helpful, polite and professional during check in and out.
Also there’s plenty of parking and the fresh milk vending machine is a great addition!

Arrived at hotel to find restaurant being renovated and closed. Recepionist clearly not enjoying her job. Or having a bad day. Freezing cold room, although it warm up when i put the heating on, heating in bathroom, no towell rails. Had to pay a refundable £50 deposit, okay its refundable but really. In the receptionists words its in case u break anything. I witnessed several people leaving as they weren't happy with their rooms. Whole place is dated, best thing to do here is knock it down. Lucky for me it was a night businesse trip. Next time im In Gloucester I'll be staying elsewhere. Avoid.

This hotel is under renovation and should be closed till it’s finished. There were a number of things that made this hotel unpleasant: The rooms are tired, cold, and uncomfortable. The pillows are so thin you need to use all four. There was no hot water, the shower gel was so diluted it was just perfumed water. The toilet rolls were cheap and thin, and there was no wash basin products. The walls are so thin you can hear everything in the adjacent rooms, some things should be private and you could hear every noise. The tipple bar was cold as I noted there was an issue with heating as the hotel had portable heaters throughout the building. I feel sorry for the lady who was running the desk as the staff did not know how to deal with guests. We experienced a guest being double booked into a room. We were looking for a comfortable hotel to stay at before a competition at Hartpury and this was unfortunately not it.

The staff were all very nice & helpful. Plenty of parking. Good size twin room & comfy bed. They were doing the hotel up so unfortunately there wasn't any restaurant facility. It was a bit noisy with the corridor door closing loudly but we were right next door to it. Apart from that & the pillows were a bit lumpy. Very good value though £50 per night per room. Would stay again but not next to the corridor door

This hotel has major issues with damp. All communal areas, reception and hallways have dehumidifier running. Got to our room, awful smell of damp. No heating on, room was very cold. There is a wall mounted electric heater, managed to get it working but could not adjust temperature as the controls were broken. Was then changed to another room. Still the same smell of damp, heater did have controls but hadn't been switched on. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Sorry

This hotel is a masterclass in false advertising. The \"cozy\" room was a frigid walk-in closet, half the advertised size, with beds like concrete slabs. The bathroom was aggressively beige and nothing like the glossy photos.

The atmosphere was a unique blend of industrial solvent, forgotten mop water, and existential dread.

Sleep was impossible, thanks to the non-stop, 12-hour audio seminar on hardcore human passion from the room above. Non stop banging until early hours of the morning.

Trying to distract myself, I found the Wi-Fi password was just a theoretical concept—zero connectivity.

The temperature felt calibrated to an ice fishing hut, forcing us to sleep fully clothed. When we tried to complain, the advertised \"24/7\" reception was locked down tighter than Fort Knox after 11 PM.

If you enjoy paying for a scented freezer, enduring frostbite, and receiving zero customer service, book immediately. Everyone else: flee.

Lovely staff but poor management/maintenance

Firstly, I can’t praise the girls on reception enough. They were friendly, sympathetic, helpful, and I really appreciated our chats.

Unfortunately, on arrival, the shower head in my room flew off the wall, hit me in the face, and soaked the bathroom and my belongings. The water also had a strong ammonia or sewage smell. I wouldn’t have felt safe bathing in it, let alone drinking it.

The brilliant receptionist on the evening of 09/07 moved me to a family room straight away and even offered to help carry my things. Sadly, this room also had plumbing issues. During a 33°C heatwave, only hot water came through the taps. A cold shower and drinking water after long, sweaty days wasn’t possible. When I asked for cold water to brush my teeth and stay hydrated, I was told I could buy bottles for £1 each, but it was cash only with no change available, so I was forced to buy five bottles with a note. Given the ongoing water issues, this felt unreasonable.

Hotel clearly needs repair, with damp and smells throughout. Beds were comfortable and the cleaners did a great job. But access to safe running water is a basic necessity, not an optional extra. I appreciated the staff who did all they could, but I do feel management should have partially compensated & take these issues seriously and treat guests with more care. Thanks Alice + other girl- sorry forgot name! Without you my stay would have been reviewed much worse. Powers that be/bosses - you need to learn from their customer service!

Overall not impressed, most staff seemed to lacked professionalism when dealing with customers, not rude but came accross as 'bored'. Restaurant, dining room closed with a vending machine in the lobby. Room service only did very basic room cleaning and unable to make the bed properly. Booked a double bed but ended up with to single beds joined together

Great quiet place for Gloucester visit

I had to change my hotel reservation last minute and my room was all ready sparkling clean for me by the time I made it from Gloucester City Centre. It's only 10-15 minutes away by a bus but I would advise non-drivers to be prepared for either taking the bus or taxi as it's by a busy road but otherwise village is quiet, not many shops and eating places.

You get what you pay for

Rooms are basic but clean. Sponge mattress is a little uncomfortable. Biggest issue is the damp smell that hits you every time you open the door, and it does linger. My room keycard was very temperamental too, and needed multiple trips to reception to gain entry every time. Grounds are a mess. Overall it’s OK. Kept the weather off. Just don’t expect too much. You get what you pay for.
