Overall we had a great experience. the food was amazing, the rooms were clean, the beach is beautiful, and most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The only issue was our toilet not flushing; although we reported it several times and it wasn’t repaired, after the fifth visit to customer service we were moved to a new room, which we appreciated. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Upon arrival, we were told our rooms weren’t ready when checking in and had to wait about 2 hours. When the room was finally ready, we opened the door to see we were given the wrong room. It was booked for 2 double beds with garden view but only given one. Went to the front desk to correct the situation to be told there wasn’t any more double bedrooms available that day. Instead they could only offer to change my room from garden view on the 3rd floor to a ground floor facing nothing. Front desk employees shrugged their shoulders and told me there was no other option. It was a complete mess and we were not accommodated at all. Also, when the time came for excursions, there was barely any transportation to and from the resort. Prices were made on the spot by drivers if where you wanted to go wasn’t listed or if your party was bigger. Dinner reservations were booked up before we even arrived on the property and we did not get to get a dinner reservation till Sunday even though we had arrived Friday morning. The steakhouse was booked for my parties dinner and had issues once again. The customer service desk told us how to book it for a group just to get to dinner and have our party of 7 at three different tables. A manager came and tried his best to fix the situation but food was late and we were told at the end of our dinner waiting on dessert that we wouldn’t be getting any the kitchen was now closed. The entire stay was issue after issue.

Resort is great, some rooms not updated. Great layout, pools, etc. Beach is beautiful (did have seaweed when we were there) and very calm waves which is good for children. Kids play area and splashpad were also very nice! Staff was amazing and rooms were cleaned daily very well. The à la carte restaurants were not very great and did not offer cocktails. The main buffet was great and had a good variety but often very busy. The biggest issue is the lack of premium liquor and not much to do around the area if you want to leave the resort.

Original assigned room was notably run down with poor view, but within 2 days were able to exchange for much better room for no charge. Very good room house keeping, and also staff work hard to keep all spaces clean throughout resort. Great beach area, pools, and waterpark. Overall, food is average.

We really enjoyed our stay, even though the weather wasn’t ideal, with cloudy skies and temperatures around 65–70 degrees— not the best for enjoying the pools or the beach. The rooms were clean and spacious, the property was well maintained, and the staff were friendly and provided great service. My stay at the RIU Resort in Ocho Rios was very disappointing. Customer service was extremely poor from the moment we arrived. We waited over two hours for our room and then an additional hour for our luggage to be delivered, which never happened. We eventually had to retrieve our bags ourselves.

The request went completely ignored, which was extremely disappointing and took away from what should have been a special occasion.

Overall, this experience did not meet expectations, and I do not plan on returning to the RIU Ocho Rios location.

The room was cleaned, the bathroom had a few hairs in it on the sink and toilet. Some of the staff were very selective about who to be nice too. They seemed extremely prejudiced. There were lots of bees around the outside bar so it was difficult to stay around. The bartenders were also selective about who would get served first. The food was cold at times. The baked goods seemed to be the same everyday. Not too many options as the menu never changed. Based on the taste of the food. They have many different chefs preparing the same food items daily.

Upon check in we were asked to pay $606.96 USD for my 10 year old son. Whereas while booking through Expedia (Canada) we had clearly added my 10 year old and paid for it upon booking. We showed our booking confirmation to the receptionist but she refused to help! After a long exhausting flight when you just want to get into your room and relax, we were pressed to pay the charges.
We opened the case with Expedia and they have been trying to the reach the hotel for clarification on that particular charge but the hotel refuses to respond or reply back to Expedia (email proof available from Expedia)

This was my second time at RIU Ocho Rios, and I already know it won’t be my last. The staff truly makes you feel at home, and by day two, everyone knows your name, which adds such a warm, personal touch to the stay.
The pools were beautiful and well-maintained, and my room was clean and comfortable. Overall, I was very happy with the experience. My only real issue was with dinner reservations. I did get into the Italian restaurant, but it took a lot of persistence and multiple attempts to secure a reservation, which was a bit frustrating, only for it to be able to fit in my small party, but they could have accommodated x3

As a suggestion, I’d love to see a movie or game room for adults, as well as a teen club in the future.

A few notes: Bring towels as there was an issue with them running out one day. Make sure you make reservations ASAP through the app as they fill up and staff are not willing to accommodate no reservation groups even if there’s open tables. Don’t rely on the “24/7” food option as that also wasn’t stocked at 1am when we were looking for a late night meal. Don’t expect an overly friendly staff - we had plenty of rude encounters. We chose to not take it personally and assumed the negative attitudes were secondary to a full resort of lots of people. The spa was super behind and our massages started an hour late, so plan for delays despite appointments if you choose to go.
The property does have a nice beach, great pools with both kids areas and adult only pools. The swim up bars are nice. Food was overall pretty tasty for an all inclusive, just don’t expect to be able to get in to try all the restaurants if you have a short stay and don’t book reservations ahead.

A few notes: Bring towels as there was an issue with them running out one day. Make sure you make reservations ASAP through the app as they fill up and staff are not willing to accommodate no reservation groups even if there’s open tables. Don’t rely on the “24/7” food option as that also wasn’t stocked at 1am when we were looking for a late night meal. Don’t expect an overly friendly staff - we had plenty of rude encounters. We chose to not take it personally and assumed the negative attitudes were secondary to a full resort of lots of people. The spa was super behind and our massages started an hour late, so plan for delays despite appointments if you choose to go.

We’ve traveled to over 25 countries. This all-inclusive was hands down NOT A FOUR STAR. I’d give it a 2.9 at most. The rooms were average. The food was always the same. The pools were cold. The mentors were minimal. The family room bathrooms were AWFUL, with zero privacy.

My wife, 6yo daughter and I had a wonderful time during our 10-night stay at the Riu, which looked far cleaner and modern compared to the dreary exterior of the nearby Sandals.
Here are my top tips for staying at the Riu:
1. Bring sanitizer. There was only one working sanitizer station in the entire hotel, just outside the buffet entrance. None of the cook staff wears gloves and few of the guests use sanitizer, so you're sharing serving spoons and tongs with about half the hotel staff & guests.
2. Bring lots of dollar bills. Very few of the guests tipped, but we made it a practice of tipping a few dollars at every meal and $1 for every drink. The staff appreciated it and gave us better service over the course of our stay.
3. Be sure to tip for service that is out of the ordinary. You want extra beer in your minifridge? Tip the man that restocks the drinks.
