Whilst most of the hotel is 5 star, there were some niggling problems.
1. The WiFi and internet are terrible. This is 2025 not 1995 !!
2. The cord on the hairdryer was so short you cannot use a mirror when drying your hair.
3. The “adults” pool is not really for adults. It has no lifeguards but children n can use it freely.

Everything else was excellent, especially breakfast.

What a gem

This is truly a lovely hotel, with a great pool and beach front. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and grounds are very well maintained. Entrance feels grand and welcome us very warm. Great kids club. Would definitely return if I had the opportunity. Only minus I experienced was the upselling (day trips, spa treatments) during breakfast. While this may work well with some of the clientele, I found this quite annoying.

Fantastic location! Spacious territory with numerous and various wildlife. Two restaurants of fine dining that will meet expectations of even a picky gourmand. Very friendly and truly impeccable service (special words of gratitude to our personal host Bhanuka P.!)
What could be improved. Our beachside villa had a great interior and was really shouting of luxury and comfort. But when you open a minibar fridge (of a pretty big size!) then you see a dull landscape made a few lonely bottles of drinks. That view makes a dramatic contrast with the rest of villa’s filling.
Also, while beach is great the sea seems to be heavy all year around with huge waves rushing to the shore.

Like most other Anantara properties, the one in Tangalle boasts of luxury, amenities and a perfect location.

We were there 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. Absolutely pampered at every step, starting at the check-in, orientation, dining, poolside and even the kids play area.

Absolutely loved how the resort is surrounded by nature, not just in terms of greenery and the beach but also in terms of creatures. Will never forget the adorable peacock that came to our room every morning for a snack or all the other creatures that we got to see around. Was also impressed by the tree planting initiative they took on Environment Day.

Special thanks to Suresh & Ugara from F&B service and Kevin from Guest Relations for thier efficient and friendly service, especially Suresh who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we wanted.

The only room for improvement is the buffet menu at Journeys was quite disappointing in terms of variety in local cuisine. Especially on Sunday night, it seemed like some of the the Saturday night's menu was repeated and some dishes were just filled with onions and garlic. Also felt the personal host service was of no use. Menus shared on whatsapp by him were available in the room and he was a not very responsive on call or messages.

Other than that, every single thing was perfect and I really hope we get to come back there again.

Massive resort but soulless

On the plus side : upgraded to a villa with plunge pool. Massive amount of space. Tastefully decorated. Huge bed. Shower was great - lots of hot water and pressure. Massive resort that needs transport to get around, very efficient with the transport service. Staff very polite. Fabulous views from the Italian restaurant - would recommend it for sundowners.
On the negative side: massive resort that has no soul. No privacy within the villa at all- anyone can see in at any stage to almost all parts (with the exception of the toilet) of the villa while passing - requires blinds to be drawn which detracts from the experience. Not a great deal on offer for Sri Lankan food, got told that the Sri Lankan themed night was the night before. At the poolside they had one choice which was not vegetarian but discussion resulted in yes veg was possible. Took a seat made our order for vegetarian curry to be told no there was only beef curry available . Got that sorted. Dinner at the Japanese restaurant as it had a selection of Sri Lankan dishes (!!) - worst Kotthu in 3 weeks of travelling - waaay too salty. Could not eat it . Did not get charged for it . Did have a discussion with chef who tasted and agreed. Also in organizing onward transport - a ridiculous price Quoted for hotel transport. Did get an outside tuktuk eventually sorted at more reasonable money.

I can’t praise the man who cleaned our room, 536 enough. He left the room spotless and couldn’t do enough to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our time at Anantara.
All the staff were excellent but he stood out.
He’s worth his weight in gold.

Magnificent property on a beautiful beach. Lovely oversized pool dropping a waterfall into a lower smaller pool. Ocean view rooms spacious & well appointed; many nice thoughtful touches with slippers, sandals, hi end glassware, large bathroom with soaking tub & window into living area. The four restaurants are all fantastic & we preferred the Asian building with mesmerizing architecture; two buildings on the beach shaped like se urchins! Very futuristic & the good offerings were all delicious. I look forward to our return for the holidays.

Paradise in Sri Lanka

If you are looking for a beach resort in Sri Lanka, there is only one destination, the Anantara Peace Haven in Tangalle. When I booked this hotel I was impressed by the reviews and the photo's, but I did not expect it to be this good. In the 4 days I spent here I fell in love with the country and can't wait to come back.

Everything about this hotel was perfect. From the architecture, to the rooms, to the perfectly manicured landscape, to the food. The resort is stunningly beautiful. The only thing more beautiful than the resort was the hearts of the resort staff. They went out of their way to do everything we wanted or needed, and always with a smile.

If you're looking for an affordable equivalent to the Seychelles, this is your destination.

However, this hotel have beant over backwards to make sure we have a good stay, even sending ginger and honey tea to our room when I mentioned in passing that my husband had a sore stomach! Our butler Shafni was a great help in every aspect . Staff were very courteous . Food was great at both italian & fusion Asian . Excellent in cleaning our suite . The beat hotel so far on this trip . One issue at check in , even though we rented pool sea view suite & I had the confirmation , they had us for garden pool suite . Never even trusted my confirmation on my phone , so it took at least 30-45 minutes to investigate !!!! Knowing I had given them the printed confirmation. Otherwise all was great

Photos didn’t do the rooms justice - amazed by the scenery and how beautiful the grounds were. Excellent gym and pool, staff were also a highlight. No issues getting to dinners or to other places, tuk tuk rides range from 300 to 500 depending on distance and time of day.

This was my first 5 star resort I have stayed at. I have stayed at many places but not like this. It certainly met my expectations. The service is outstanding. So attentive. The rooms are luxurious and extremely clean. No little detail is left untouched. Beautiful body lotions and after sun to use. Amazing comfy beds and pillows. The way they clean your room when your out and turn down service etc. the buffet breakfast was outstanding. The room was immaculate as well as the grounds. And very happy with the price considering what you get. Highly recommend

Amazing hotel one of the best places we have ever stayed at and we have stayed in many hotels.
Service was impeccable, staff were amazing and we were treated extremely well.
Our personal butler Tharanga was lovely always making sure we were ok. I can’t speak more highly of this place.
The breakfast was outstanding! The only con I would stay is that the pool bar menu for both drinks and food is extremely overpriced and noticed there were not many people eating or drinking probably for this exact reason, lowering the menu prices would entice more people to enjoy dining at the hotel.
We would have loved to have dined in one of the restaurants but could not justify the prices for the food or drinks.
Other than that I would travel back to tangalle just to stay here again!

As soon as we entered the resort area we knew we did the right choice booking this resort. This is a new resort which has been opened two years ago. The ground and the landscaping were perfect. It’s directly on the beach and at the same time you can enjoy the wild life of Sri Lanka. Peacocks, squirrels, different kind of birds, plantation, rice fields, tree house...
A group of singers started to sing welcoming us as soon as we entered the open lobby. Then a fresh coconut juice was served. The check in was quick and a personal employee accompanied each of us to the rooms. My room was an ocean view room #313...So beautifully designed and spacious. The bathroom is amazing and well designed. The breakfast was included with the room and you can enjoy a wide selection of food even Indian and Middle Eastern food. We tried all the restaurants at the hotel and the food was tasty. We also tried a set menu dinner with a show. There are 2 pools and a jacuzzi on the pool area. There are many villas with private pools too. A special thanks to Mr. Ravi for his hospitality...He took me for a hotel tour and offered a free boat ride...We planted a coconut tree at the hotel too. He was so friendly and helpful. For sure I will stay here next time I visit Tangalle. Thank you Anantara for making my 1st visit to Sri Lanka an unforgettable experience.

Nice and big rooms with very good equipment
Special personal Concierge service
Only points to be improved are the restaurants both buffet, Japanese and for the lunch at the beach, quality is ok but not at the level of the hotel for the price charged.
Also they should not allow guests reserving chairs at the swimming pool or beach with their towels. This was every day. Most taken with nobody on.

Loved the sea view room, it was spacious and comfortable and the little extras like the beach bag and beach slippers were a lovely touch, which I wasn’t expecting. This was the last stop of our tour of Sri Lanka and we stayed there three night but I wish it was more.

A great resort with everything to offer

My wife and I stayed in this resort for our Anniversary and her Birthday during October. It is a new resort, with very high standards and excellent staff. The rooms are very modern, clean and have just about everything you will need with a great selection of complimentary treats and a nespresso machine. We also tried out the pool villa with a garden view and this was definitely worth it.

The hotel had a really personalized and welcoming check-in service and assigned a butler to us. Because we move to a villa and due to some time-off we had the please of dealing with 3 different butlers all of which were fantastic. Our Butlers (Shafni, Kanishka and Isuru) attended to our every need with the help of the Villa manager (Udayanga) to make our stay special even when we wanted some privacy screens set up.

The Restaurants had a great selection also with very friendly and attentive staff and we absolutely loved going to high tea in the afternoons and chatting with Jeeva.

There were a few issues which did not affect our overall opinion due to everything above which were: a lot of bugs around due to the rainy season, the hotel is really far away from the Colombo airport and the guy handling the excursions seemed really unwelcoming once he heard that we had our own driver.

This was the second time in an Anantara resort and we left very happy once again. Thanks for a great holiday!

we love this great property, but can't recommend it. unfortunately the staff ruined the experience and 2/4 restaurants were closed our entire stay. they put us in a room with low battery in the door, got locked out. call to let us in took too long and they showed up with a key even though I explained the lock was simply dead. while waiting for maintenance the staff member stared at my wife in her bathing suit even while talking to me! I had to ask him to wait away from our pool. they need to train their staff to be less offensive. our Butler also informed us the activities we wanted to do were unavailable (cooking class), but when we checked directly ourselves, it turned out it was available. when you spend this much $ in Sri Lanka you expect much better service, as we got at all the other much less $ places we stayed in our trip

A fantastic resort, as the name suggests it's very peaceful and the location is just stunning! My family thoroughly enjoyed all the facilities that were on offer and the services were excellent. We had an ocean view room with a private pool and it was amazing. The half board experience at the restaurant was a treat. Nothing was too much trouble, especially when your kids demand something different from what was on the menu. Quality of food overall was fabulous. Thank you Anantara Peace Haven for a wonderful stay! I will definitely recommend you to my friends and family.

4 Nights at Anantara

Enjoyed our beautiful beach front villa, having evening meal delivered to room followed by late evening drinks in private plunge pool.

We used the hotel airport transport which we thought was good value as this is a 3.5-4 hr drive from airport and included cold towels, snacks, use of ipad. We were also escorted through the silk route on arrival at airport so didn't even have to collect our own cases.

Excellent choice at breakfast, it would be nice if your choice could be delivered to villa at no extra charge (as happens at Raffles Singapore) if you do not wish to leave pool to get ready to go for breakfast.

We booked Udawalawa and whale watching through hotel, both excellent trips we saw plenty of elephants and whales including a Killer Whale. Starting at 5am meant we missed breakfast on both occasions, although a packed bruch was provided it was not very good or imaginative. When we arrived back from one of the trips around lunch time our room was being cleaned which was a bit disappointing as we had been out of the room since 5am this wasn't very well co ordinated with our return

We had a good deep tissue massage from the spa.

Loved the beach (sea too rough to swim) and beach huts for drinks which were cheaper than hotel

On our last night had a meal at Verele which was very expensive and nothing special the restaurant had no atmosphere (not worth the money)

Not sure what we think about the welcome and farewell greeting we felt a bit uncomfortable

We expected more from this resort having visited other Anantara hotels. Service overall was average. Service at the pool was unbelievably slow as they were under-staffed. Food at the main restaurant (buffet) was good, but we had dinner at the Italian restaurant and food was extremely poor (although we enjoyed the beautiful view from the restaurant). Having been to many other resorts in Asia, this one does not really make the list of my favorite ones.

The entrance, the bar and the Italian restaurant are beautiful. In general, the hotel is very good, however, it has a quite \"resorty\" vibe in the bad sense, with the buffet restaurant and the buildings where the rooms are located lacking the unique and special feeling that Anantara should offer. A pity how the beach hasn't been integrated more in the complex.

We discovered Anantara chain by chance one year ago and we are now addicts. Clearly Peace Haven has a perfect location, beach is beautiful, staff always kind and service oriented. You are next to the Turtle beach... We did not want to get out of the hotel as we felt so good ! You have everything inside, the parc is an open Zoo, we saw so many beautiful animals. So perfect mix between Luxury, nature and human touch. A big thank to all the staff!

Fabulous beautiful place with impeccable service

We stayed at this beautiful new resort, everything about this resort is wonderful, from the amazing staff, the great ocean view room with balcony over looking the ocean and the pool, beautiful bathroom with soaking tub and separate shower, in room cappuccino machine, the infinite swimming pool. I could go on and on about this beautiful place. They had one of the most beautiful breakfast buffet presentation I have ever seen at a hotel, all kinds of international cuisine. We also had a great dinner at the Italian restaurant, the view is spectacular from the restaurant/bar.

This was my destination for my 3rd anniversary celebration and I have to say it was memorable and wonderful. The hotel staff arranged my itinerary as planned were in on the surprises that I had in store for my wife. Dining by Design was just perfect as well as the spa treatment, excursions and everything else in between.
Truly a wonderful display of hospitality.
Will most definitely recommend and stay again in the future.

Brand new hotel keen to make a great impression

A great hotel with very attentive staff. The rooms are luxurious and generous, the food is lovely. The cooking course is great fun. The beach is rough so I would not advise swimming directly in front of the hotel. There is a more protected bay a short walk away to the south, and tuc tuc ride to the north. The pool is lovely.
