The beach, beautifully curated music playing through out the restaurant and pool area (these are just to name a few) make you feel extremely well taken care of and the most relaxed I truly may have ever been! This hotel will live in my dreams and I would encourage anyone to make a booking here.

Amazing place, great vibe, excellent service

Amazing stay, even extended twice.
The service is second to none, everything is no problem. From the amazing view of the sea to all the varied wildlife in the grounds, posse of monkeys visit every day drinking from the pool and generally being monkeys to peacocks, a mongoose, frogs, all the birds.

Nick the owner is a friendly chap and clearly set the ethos of this place and is always around to help if needed.
Kalpa and Umesh (managers) are great, absolute credit to the place.

Can’t say a bad word, if we are back to Sri Lanka then a visit here will be on the cards again.

We had 2 rooms, both great, outdoor showers, very clean, air con, amazing views over the lagoon, comfy beds. Best place we stayed in Sri Lanka, only left as we had plans.

The beach is 2 min walk away past all the hermit crabs, we saw baby turtles going into the sea one evening just before they close the beach due to conservation. We then went another night with the turtle conservation next door and witnessed a turtle laying eggs. This place has it all.

We loved this place and will definitely be coming back! There are so many small and thoughtful details that the staff uphold that make the place so welcoming and friendly. We had a memorable yet relaxing stay here and the only regret is that we wish we would have booked longer! The food was delicious and they catered to our dietary requirements without any fuss. For us, it ticked every box, Magical place!

Beautiful welcoming hotel

Loved the whole experience. The food was the best we have had in Sri Lanka so far. The staff couldn’t do more to make you feel at home. There were turtles on the deserted stunning beach and the whole place is just beautiful Nick the owner is very friendly and welcoming. We couldn’t have had a better time.

Where to start. Nick Buckingham is a legend - and his hotel team is first rate. The food... oh the food - truly brilliant. Don’t leave this place without at least having ordered tuna for your supper. This hotel is truly a hidden gem. The serenity you feel when you're here is out of this world and every little detail is thought through. My fiance and I stayed here for 3 nights and wish we could have stayed longer because it was the first time in our trip when we felt we could stop planning the details of the day and just relax. Nick, the owner, greets every guest and asks several times how their stay is. He makes sure you know that everything could be customized to your liking and there is no pressure to conform to any sort of \"norms\", starting from the time you want to eat breakfast to where you want your meals to what is actually in the meal itself. And by the way, the meals are all a la carte and not buffet-style because they are all made from fresh, local ingredients (the dinner options rotate as well to keep it fresh and interesting). We planned to do at least one day trip, but ended up not leaving the hotel at all during our stay because it was just so perfect. The only downside is that you cannot swim in the stretch of beach directly in front of the hotel, but we liked the pool better anyway and just went for walks on the beach instead. The staff is so friendly and make you feel like family. Even if you don't like something you ordered, you can send it back with no problem and they will be kind and apologetic about it instead of treating you like a problem (which I've experienced at other places). 11/10.

The Dream Hotel

Having been to around 45 countries and experienced backpacking in hostels to luxury 5* star resorts and everything in between - Buckingham Place was by FAR the best hotel we have ever stayed in.

There are too many positive things to say without writing for hours, but here are three highlights :
1) The attention to detail - from the incredible bathroom toiletries (even toothpaste!) to the complimentary refreshing pool side drinks, everything has been thought of.
2) The swimming pool is PERFECT. Sparkling clean, great temperature, large, beautiful - with a bar section too!
3) The staff - they make you feel part of their family. On Xmas morning, a knock on the door with breakfast in bed and a HUGE bag full of presents and Sri Lankan souvenirs - where else would this happen?!

This wasn't just a hotel, it was a memorable experience we will cherish!

Buckingham Place is one mans dream and he has succeeded in creating a wonderful hotel. It’s a secluded very quiet location, next to a beautiful empty beach. It’s spacious with the rooms spread out and the main restaurant and infinity pool overlooking the beach. The owner Nick is charming, all the staff incredibly attentive. Food was wonderful. Half of the guests were returning guests who just really love the place. We totally understand why.

Wow. We’ve just checked out of Buckingham Place and my mind is already busy planning my next trip back.

This charming little hotel boasts sea views, beach access and breakfast with the sound of the waves. The online photos don’t really do the place justice.

Breakfast deserves a mention- no buffet here, just order what you fancy until you’re full and can have tea in your room and then again at breakfast (my idea of heaven!)

The place is run by the owner Nick who the local staff are clearly very fond of and it shows in the service we received. You’re really made to feel that nothing is too much trouble and we’ve never received service quite like it.

I also particularly loved that they limit plastic use - reusable and refillable water bottles, metal straws and more going on behind the scenes!

I will definitely look to return for a relaxing few days!

Wonderful stay

My father and brother and I had a wonderful stay at Buckingham Place. We especially enjoyed the beautiful grounds and architecture that the owner, Nick, has put together amidst the wilderness surrounding the hotel. The food and service are excellent as you would expect. Do take the opportunity to meet Nick as he is a lot of fun and great company. I would highly recommend a stay of a couple of nights to soak in the atmosphere.

Buckingham Place is a super nice and tranquil place. Everybody from the staff is super friendly and helpful, everything is in very good conditions (we had some issue with wifi in our room, which was swiftly fixed), the pool is quite large and good for swimming, and the food (especially breakfast) is fantastic as well. If I should mention something negative: it is quite far from the next town ... 20 minutes to Tangalle we were told ... but hey, isn't that exactly why you go there?). We would very much recommend Buckingham Place.

Beautiful setting and location. This place is fantastic with a relaxing atmosphere, great service but not overdone, with a sense that you are more of a guest at a home stay. The food is really great and they will help you and your partner celebrate a birthday or other event, but not a place to go and party down if that’s what you want.

Lovely boutique hotel with s wonderful warm welcome. Incredible breakfast served from 7am till you get up! Which in our case was always nearer 11am. Chilled out environment made for a relaxing break with no stress. Room was huge, cool and the sheets were soft. Outside bathroom which was a great feature, you can hear all the palms in the wind as you shower.

They say you can't go back to Economy after Business Class, probably say the same thing about First Class. I feel like my stay at Buckingham Place was a First Class experience, made to feel welcome from the first moment you step in the door, service from all staff was amazing for the entire stay, property is great, food is very good and the beaches are beautiful. Would highly recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to relax and get away from it all for a few days. Our stay at Buckingham Place was a highlight of our Sri Lankan trip.

Perfect, Relaxing Setting with Impeccable Sevice

While on holiday and traveling throughout Sri Lanka, my wife and I stumbled upon one of the best hotels we’ve ever had the pleasure to stay at, Buckingham Place. We booked it last minute, but were greeted by the well trained staff as if we were old friends, or returning favorite guests. Every moment of our stay was accompanied by an attentive staff member, who ensured our complete satisfaction throughout our stay.
The staffs training is no doubt the result of the owners meticulous attention to detail. We had the good fortune of meeting the owner Nick Buckingham. Nicks zest for recounting anecdotal stories of resort guests entertaining other guests with an a capella serenade or instrumental medley gives one the perception that their well appointed hotel would be the perfect retreat for not only a quiet, reclusive getaway for anyone, but also a superb venue for artists of all types to escape to. Regardless, relaxing in or around the infinity pool with the sounds of the nearby crashing surf off in the distance, mixed in with the piped in music from the adjacent dining area, makes for a remarkable holiday for anyone.

Unfortunately, I rarely leave reviews unless a place hit the top or bottom of the spectrum (shame on me, I know). Where to begin with Buckingham Place?

From the moment you arrive, you know this will be a special place. The staff is quick to learn your name, your preferences and the personalization sets this place apart even from other botique properties we've stayed in. The owner, Nick, is fantastic- quick to offer a recommendation whether it is a place to visit, help with transportation or which of the wonderful items to enjoy from the menu. He truly embodies the spirit of a proud owner.

The property itself is breathtaking. The space has been designed (again by Nick) to let you truly enjoy the magic of the grounds. No matter where you sit, there is a majestic view and the sounds of the beach. The rooms and spacious and feel homelike and the beach is unlike any we've seen in all our travels.

Without a doubt, Buckingham Place is within the top three properties out of hundreds, if not thousands, we've stayed in. There is an unparalleled level of service and quality that would be nearly impossible to replicate. When we come to Sri Lanka again, there's no doubt we will be repeat guests at Buckingham Place.

Truly amazing, fully relaxation

* Like:
- Location: Situated between a lagoon and a quiet beautiful clean sandy beach with very few tourists.
- Room: Super huge. Including a big bedroom with a full set of sofa and a desk. Large area window and door share the view of the lagoon in front of your room and bed. A super large bathroom with shower space, a Jacuzzi and a toilet.
- Nick: The creator and owner of this lovely place. He often greets each guest during check-in, breakfast and check-out. To be honest, I’ve never seen an owner like him pay so much attention to make sure each guest is satisfied and happy every day.
- Staff: Friendly and helpful.
- Food: Truly delicious and amazing, including breakfast, lunch or dinner.
- Environment: It’s a small villa with limited guest rooms but it feels like you stayed in a park rather a 5 star hotel. One Pony and four peacocks appears in this villa from time to time and make you feel you are one of the component of this nature garden.
- Beach: Golden color sand, lovely sunshine, pleasant wave beat, few people nearby; all these make this beach so lovely and so beautiful.
- Pool: Two pools for the customers. Both are clean and staffs are nearby.
- Price: Absolutely reasonable comparing to what have been offered to you.
* Dislike:
- Access: Need to spend some time go through the winding narrow road to reach this hidden gem.
* Summary:
- This place is also the number one hotel among those 8 hotels that we stayed in this Sri Lanka trip.

Unique, boutique and welcoming

My wife and I stayed at Buckingham Place for 4 nights in Feb 2018. Our expectations were surpassed and then some. The hotel is situated in a quiet corner of Rekawa Beach with miles of pristine sands striped with the tracks of nesting turtles - perfect for long walks on the beach as the sun sets.

Nick and his staff are welcoming and created an unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere in luxury surroundings. Beautiful artwork adorns the main areas and the huge rooms and the grounds are roamed by peacocks and a friendly(ish) rescue horse, Rocky-Ginger. The food was excellent with the menu changing daily. I can’t think of having better seared tuna anywhere else in Sri Lanka.

As a guitarist, I loved the ability to be able to pick up and play the hotel guitar when I pleased (without disturbing other guests of course).

We joined one movie night with popcorn under the stars which was a surreal and enjoyable experience.

Buckingham Place helped us organise Safari and transfers to our next destination, all at a very fair price rather then the profiteering you get at some high end hotels.

The hotel also focuses on sustainability, we didn’t see a single plastic bottle or needless waste for that matter.

Well done to Nick and the team - we would have booked to stay longer if we had known :-)

When you arrive at Buckingham Place you are warmly greeted by the owner and told \"everything here should be perfect - and if it's not, please tell us and we'll make it perfect.\" I could RAVE about this place for paragraphs but this really sums it up. It was perfect. It might be Buckingham PLACE as opposed to Palace, but this resort was the crown jewel in our trip to Sri Lanka. Thankyou Nick and the team. We loved it :)

Amazing experience....stay longer

We booked this hotel as it was the closest reasonable looking place to the turtle sanctuary so had no idea how good it was going to be. From the minute you arrive the overall experience is perfect, greeted with floral garlands, the rooms are huge, spotless and super cool, the bed covered with pressed flowers and also the surrounds of the sink. The service excellent, lovely pool, great restaurant, every detail has been carefully considered. Nick the owner introduced himself at dinner, an interesting character, you can see every inch of this place reflects his idea of how a hotel should be run, by far the nicest place we stayed on the island, so sorry we only had one night. My tip would be if you are on a trip around the island stay here for a few nights, it is close enough to Yala for a day trip amongst many other attractions and so relaxing while you are there.

we went as a family and stayed in Buckingham place for four nights. we were so happy that we didnt want to leave. it is such a charming hotel with the most friendly staff. the setting is great and you get to have a small kind of safari experience with monkeys jumping around you and Rocky the horse always around as well as peacocks and birds.the food is also very refined and tasty . couples as well as family travelers would have a unique stay thanks to the presence of mr. Nick Buckingham.

Lovely property in a wild location

Rekawa Beach is a wild and beautiful beach with crashing waves and barely another soul on it. Wildlife abound, Buckingham Place is ideally situated to take advantage of the beautiful birds, monkeys and other gorgeous creatures of the local area. Our Garden Room looked across the lagoon and we were lucky enough to catch gorgeous sunsets and wake up to monkeys playing in front of our panoramic window one early morning with the sound of the local Peacocks on our roof. This combined with the luxury of the hotel which has been tastefully designed, makes for a great combination. The staff will go out of their way to accomodate your requests. We asked for whole red snapper for our last lunch despite it not being on th menu and Nick the owner made sure this happened! Overall a great four nights at Rekawa Beach.

Beautiful place and the best service ever

Prepare for an experience that goes way beyond a comfortable hotel stay. Owner Nick's knowledge and love of Sri Lanka will bring you closer to the country than any guidebook can. Thanks to his attention to detail and a totally amazing staff your stay is full of amazing and sometimes unexpected, but always welcome touches that make the stay unforgettable. Do not go if you want nightlife but do if you love beauty and calm and being so close to nature that cute animals (both domesticated and wild) turn up in the garden around you and if you want to relax in the company of like minded travelers. They offer simply the best food on Sri Lanka and there is a new restaurant with huge pool, overlooking the beach just opening. We stayed for 5 days but wished we could stay much longer and will most certainly be back.

Wonderful relaxing getaway

We stayed at Buckingham place for 3 nights in January 16 and it was wonderful.
If you want to get away from it all for a few days while enjoying excellent food, service and comfort this is the place to go.
Everyone at the resort could not do more to help. For instance I had got sunburnt so someone picked up some high factor suncream for me, If you don't like what's on the menu, the chef will do something different ( and the food was delicious!!). Absolutely nothing was too much trouble.
This excellent service combined with beautifully designed mini villas and surrounds made for a wonderful stay. I wish we could go back!

A sanctuary from the fast pace of modern life with every need anticipated by Nick and his well trained staff. An opportunity to appreciate the fauna and flora, swim in a blissful pool, relax in a wonderful garden and enjoy fine dining with an imaginative fusion of Sri Lankan and world fare. Thanks also go to Rocky the rescue horse for keeping us entertained with his antics. We would recommend a trip to Bundula Nature Reserve for anyone interested in birds. This was ably arranged for us at our request nothing being too much trouble for our host. We stayed for 6 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal plus extras and this was very good value for money. We recommend Buckingham Place to others and hope to be back.

Relax and enjoy

One word is enough, amazing.
When you stay their, you feeling like paradise.
Nice place to relax and enjoy. The stuff is attentive all the time, kindly, friendly and helpful.
The restaurant is great, you can choose by a big menu of breaksfast and enjoy a meal in the evening by a cart of 3 main courts that change 5 times, also will the chef help when you don't eat anything of the maincourt.

Standout service

We had a wonderful stay and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
The setting is beautiful and the meals were very good.
Our room was also very spacious, well laid out and private.

Not a place for those who like swimming

Overall, that was an average experience and we wouldn't come back to this hotel. The deal breaker for us was not being able to swim. The beach is very close nearby, but the waves are too dangerous to enter the water. The nearest safe beach is 12 km away. As for the hotel pool, it's big enough only for a quick dip.

It's close to wildlife, you can see peacocks and monkeys right there. But this also means it's quite far from the nearest village. So, if you want to have dinner outside the hotel, it'll turn into a challenge.

The room was nice, each of them located in a separate building, with a view on the lake. But the service was weird. Our towels weren't changed in 3 days, that is throughout the whole stay.

To sum it up, choose this hotel if you want to get away from civilization and stay close to wildlife. Don't choose this hotel if you like swimming and if you value flexibility in your vacation.

This is about as perfect a place to be for a relaxing exotic stay you can find in Sri Lanka. Beautiful large rooms, scenic and quiet location, excellent service, great food. I can't recommend it enough.

We stayed at Buckingham Place for 5 days and wished we could have stayed another 5, the hotel, staff and owner Nick are amazing and made us feel so welcome. Luvly rooms, amazing food, excellent hotel grounds, etc. We will definitely be back :-)

beautiful place with caveat

Truly beautiful place but a bit isolated
Would recommend with a caveat Not close to any places to eat so confined to the hotel
The breakfast and lunch were good but dinner disappointing and menu limited Fish and prawns overcooked Owner offered to make anything but did not want to criticize when there My driver who stayed said his food was not good either Only had one dinner so not sure if this is a problem

Extraordinary hotel in every respect.

Cannot say enough to praise this hotel (resort). Nick Buckingham's achievement in building and managing this small (14 rooms) resort is monumental. Most rooms are separate, large size concrete and stone buildings of excellent modern design. The rooms are very large size with praiseworthy furnishings. Food in the restaurant is superb, breakfast to dinner, with many very creative dishes with always fresh ingredients. Service is impeccable. Access to a beautiful and largely uninhabited beach is a 10 minute walk, but swimming is inadvisable due to the heavy surf and undertow. Given the very high level of this facility, prices are quite modest.

Amazing beautiful hotel

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Buckingham Place. Nick has created a haven of calm for all his guests. The staff are all attentive whilst giving you the space you need. The food in the restaurant was also excellent.
