Nice little hotel. Our room was very warm and we could not turn on the air conditioning - it had just been turned off for the change of the season. So we sweated in the room. The offer a breakfast that is very good with lots of options. The gentleman servicing us was very nice! We tried to order a drink off the bar menu but the woman running the bar would not do it. Confusing since it's on the menu! There is a very nice pool and on the roof a hot tub. The only thing we didn't like was the rug in the elevator smelled like mauldy socks.

This is a lovely traditional Italian hotel. The staff is great, incredibly helpful and nice. The pool and landscaping are beautiful. Excellent breakfast! Only minor complaint: The showers could be improved - we had 2 different rooms and neither had a shower that functioned really well. We plan to return to Villa Sofia.

I felt like we booked a room I literally in paradise. All the staff were welcoming and kind. Margarita went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and a wonderful memory that we will never forget. The breakfast was fabulous, too. I really can not say enough about this enchanting property in Gardone Riviera!

Beautiful setting on quiet street very close to the village above and Salò below. Lovely breakfast inside, in sunroom or on the terrace. Wide selection of hot and cold items plus espresso, cappucino and cafe Americano. Fresh fruits and juices. Wonderful pool to relax after a day of sightseeing. Great choice in Lake Garda.

There is no restaurant in this hotel but plenty within easy walking distance provided you are able-bodied and fit. They can also book you in to their partner hotel's dining room if you have a car for a short drive down the hill

It has been a very nice couple of days! The room was spacious and quiet, only the showerhead was furred up and caused flooding. Breakfast was very nice and sufficient. Hotel staff was very nice and helpful at all times. The entire Hotel is very well maintained and neat. Our dog was also very welcome. Location is brilliant, well situated to walk up the hill for lunche and to the village centre for dinner. All in all, we'll definitely return.

Authentic Italian hotel, helpful, friendly staff

A warm friendly welcome from all the staff, breakfast staff were particularly helpful and quick to bring your choice of hot drink each day. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and yummy. Fresh croissants, pain au chocolate, pastries, scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese, ham, fruit, cereal, juice.
Our room was on the second floor, a corner room. The decor was lemon and blue, typically Italian and felt authentic. A lovely balcony, we were amongst the tree tops which did reduce the light in the room and we did get traffic noise as we were on the corner of the building near to the road. It wasn't too distracting though. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom huge. I am not too fond of a shower curtain and would have preferred a screen. The roof terrace and hot tub are a good addition. We didn't get the chance to use the outdoor pool due to the weather changing. We did visit the sister hotel to use their spa facilities which was a bonus on a wet day.
The building is set in its own grounds and only a short walk from many restaurants, cafes and bars. Highly recommended.

Amazing staff will ensure you have a great stay

Quaint little hotel in a good location to the lake and a number of restaurants close to the Vittoriale. Breakfast was lovely with the most amazing pastries and a good selection of cheeses, meats and cereals, although not a lot of hot options. There is no option for lunch/evening meals at the hotel but the staff were very good at recommending a number of places to visit. The rooms were spacious, clean, tidy and well equipped, only issue was the shower which seemed to have a mind of itself in terms of pressure and temperature. By far the best thing about this hotel was the staff, throughout they couldn’t do enough to help us, which added to the experience and ensured we had a fabulous stay. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool and an amazing rooftop terrace with beautiful views of the lake and the added bonus of a hot tub. We loved our stay and would recommend to anyone.

Perfect choice for the area.

Beautiful hotel in the perfect t location. You could walk down to the lake and the small beach or to the front where the restaurants are. You could also walk up the steps to the village with more restaurants. The grounds and gardens are well kept and so pretty. The staff could not be more helpful. Breakfast was lovely. We stayed in numerous hotels in Europe and this was our favourite. It had a family feel, was quiet even though it was full and had maintained its charm.

A little gem hidden Very quiet and relaxing hotel.

Villa Sifia was a great base to explore Gardone Riviera and other parts of Lake Garda. A five minute stroll to la few ocal shops and restaurants overlooking the Lake. We did have a day or two by the hotel's pool which was very clean and never busy. Hotel itself is very nice and our room was very spacious. All staff were extremely warm, friendly and nothing was too much of a bother for them. It was also nice to sit outside having breakfast. A small but wel kept hotel hidden away with some beautiful views from our room ... We were truly spoilt and will most definitely be going back.

Charming hotel close to all amenities

Lovely Villa style hotel, fantastic, helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfasts. Quite location, but close enough to the lakeside and even close to Gardone town centre. Pool area lovely and clean with waiter service for snacks and drinks, plus plenty of loungers to go round. Loved our week and wanted to stay much, much longer. Although there isn't a restaurant on site, there are plenty of fantastic places to eat very close. we ate at different bars/tavernas/osterias and restaurants every day and didn't have a bad experience anywhere.

Classy, peaceful hotel with lovely pool

Excellent, garden view room and although our room was not front facing our balcony afforded views of the lake from the side of the hotel. Comprehensive breakfast. Fantastic panoramic views from top terrace. My husband has Coeliac Disease and the hotel provided a selection of gluten free bread, cereal and crackers for breakfast.
Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The hotel is quite a steep uphill climb from the town so may not be suitable for everyone.

Lovely hotel in perfect location

Absolutely loved this place. Hotel extremely comfortable, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful area for first stay on Lake Garda.
Situated within easy walking distance of the lake but also just a short walk uphill to Gardone Sopra, a hidden gem with plenty of places to eat and drink. Gardone itself is one of the quieter resorts, except for the main road cutting through it, but we preferred this to the more hectic places found elsewhere on the lake.

Great Hotel

Very helpful and friendly staff. Our room was ground floor so no views as such but we were out most of the time anyway. Rooms on other floors had balconies with good views. Air Con was blissful in the heat. Breakfast is help yourself but a large range of stuff and easily set us up for the day. If I had one very minor moan it was that the room lighting was poor by the wardrobe for seeing the numbers on the room safe. Very minor and we just used a phone to illuminate the panel. The pool is really handy for a quick dip on a hot day. Loved the hotel and will definitely return.

Very quiet hotel

The room was spacious, spotlessly clean and had a lovely view of the lake. The staff were at all times really helpful and friendly. The breakfast was nice with a variety of fruit, cereals and yoghurts. Also bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs were available.

We are a couple in our sixties and we appreciate a quiet hotel but at times this hotel was a bit too quiet. Also although we knew that Lake Garda is in a mountainous location, we did not expect there to be so much rain!

Haven of peace above the busy lakeside

The Villa Sofia is ideally placed between the busier, lakeside Gardone Riviera (with promenade, lakeside cafes, upmarket clothing shops and hotels), and the charming higher village of Gardone Sopra (with restaurants, ice-cream shop, and d'Annunzio's house). It's a ten minute walk downhill to the water and boats, or five steep uphill minutes to the village. The hotel is a calm oasis, with gardens and swimming pool. It's not, though, a full-service hotel - dinner, massages etc, are available at its lakeside sister hotel, the Savoy Palace. We enjoyed the breakfasts greatly, eating at tables in the garden. All the staff were very polite, helpful, and multi-lingual.

A very nice hotel, 5 minutes' walk from the lake

This is a nice hotel, 5 minutes' walk from the lake and 5 minutes' walk (up the hill from the hotel) to the \"upper town\", where there is at least one very nice restaurant. The facilities are slightly old-fashioned (we had a bath in our room rather than a shower), but the rooms have balconies, many with lovely views, the breakfast (included in the price) is good and the pool, although not huge, is big enough for a good swim and in a very nice spot in front of the hotel. The staff are excellent, and very helpful.

Small, comfortable hotel in quiet lake resort

We had a great week in this good hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was spotlessly clean with towels changed most days both morning and evening. Our room (203) had a great view over trees and rooftops across the lake, and a nice balcony with table and two chairs. The beds are definitely firm, as other reviews have commented, but comfortable. Good buffet breakfast each morning, with limited hot choices but very good fresh fruit salad, breads and pastries, although do ask for the cappuccino if you like your coffee fresh.
Gardone is a small resort, seemingly consisting largely of lakeside hotels, so with little nightlife. However, the ferry terminal means it's well placed to see both ends of the lake - we visited Limone by car one day and Sirmione on the ferry another.
The lakeside is a 10 minute walk downhill from the hotel and the old town just 5 minutes in the other direction. We preferred the old town for atmosphere at night and the better choice of restaurants and bars.
Day and evening bar service is on request (ring bell) but service was good and prices quite reasonable

Hotel Villa Sofia is excellent!!

We stayed in Hotel Villa Sofia for 10 days and thoroughly recommend it. It's only a five minute walk away from the lake.

We got the the hotel more then three hours early in relation to the check in time but unlike other hotels I have stayed in they let us check in as the room was ready.

Every single staff member were friendly, helpful and always smiling. A real feeling of made welcome.

The breakfasts were amazing!!!

In all if you are going to Lake Garda I would recommend this hotel!!!!

Nice Hotel, very friendly staff.

A very nice hotel, set slightly uphill from the Gardone waterfront so a little bit of an uphill walk going back. Nice pool and bar area, but no restaurant. The breakfast buffet included everything you could want and the staff were extremely friendly and at least tri-lingual. Nice views of the lake from rooms at the front.

Not close to anywhere, and no restaurant!

Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. Rooms were beautiful and the staff very kindly offered us a bigger room as we had children. Lovely swimming pool and cosy bar. It's quite far uphill from the main lakeside collection of restaurants and shops, and from the hillside village - only a ten minute walk, but not so great if you have pushchair and elderly grandmother with poor mobility - also, very limited pay-parking at the lakeside and up in village (plenty of free parking at hotel) so shuttling up and down hill not easy. It's not possible to get a good idea of this on google maps unless you look very closely! Also - no restaurant! Again, not very good if you've got children who go to bed early and need babysitting. As no supermarket/food shop in town, this means no dinner! Staff very kindly suggest restaurant at their \"sister hotel\" down hill at lakeside but doesn't open until 6.30-7pm. Overall though a very nice place to stay, but a bit more information about location and proximity to shops/services would have been helpful to our party.

LOVELY HOTEL IN QUIET & SERENE SETTING

A LOVELY SMALL HOTEL SITUATED A TEN MINUTE UPHILL WALK FROM THE LAKE. WE HAD A STANDARD ROOM WHICH WAS OF A REASONABLE SIZE WITH FRENCH WINDOWS BUT NO BALCONY. THE BATHROOM WAS VERY LARGE BUT THERE WAS NO BATH ONLY A SHOWER (SEEMS A SHAME GIVEN THE SPACE). THE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND OBLIGING, NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE. THERE WAS A GOOD CHOICE OF FOOD AT THE BREAKFAST BUFFET AND THE QUALITY VERY GOOD. BREAKFAST WAS SERVED OUTSIDE. HOTEL ALSO HAD A LOVELY POOL AREA.
THERE IS NO RESTAURANT ON SITE HOWEVER I WOULD RECOMMEND THE SISTER HOTEL (SAVOY PALACE'S) WHICH IS BY THE LAKE. ON A NICE EVENING THE DINING TABLES ARE SET BY THE ILLUMINATED POOL AREA. THE ARE A FEW RESTAURANTS UPHILL IN THE HIGHER PART OF THE TOWN WHERE THERE ARE WONDERFUL VIEWS. WE ATE A COUPLE OF EVENINGS AT THE TAVERNA IN GARDONE, VERY GOOD HOME-COOKED FOOD AND REASONABLY PRICED.

Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet location. Lovely room, with pool and lake view. Only downside for us was no restaurant as we had storms for three nights in a row and it would have been nice not to have to go out in the rain but with a bit of good timing we managed to stay fairly dry. Good choice at breakfast, nice coffee.

Lovely Hotel

lovevly hotel with very helpful reception staff who helped us with our trips and car hire. The breakfast was also excellent with a great selection with the exception of the hot food which wasn't great and they should probably not bother with. We thought the hotel was very pretty and our room was large, however the balcony was really small and although it had 2 chairs we didn't sit on it as no table etc. The hotel is a short walk to the waterfront and a short walk up to upper gardonne, 5 minutes if you go up the back steps. The only point I wasn't happy with was the dreadful shower over the bath. This was a handheld shower and you had to hook it onto the wall and it wouldn't stay on with the pressure of the water which meant trying to hold it over your head whilst washing your hair! They do now have kettles and tea/coffee in the rooms.

Enjoyed my stay at Sofia, the one thing I would change the next time is ask for a room facing the front, the lake direction, as the back can be a little noisy. Evn though it has beautiful views of the hills, it is situated on a local street.

Nice friendly small hotel.

Excellent clean and bright hotel. Staff very friendly and always willing to help. Breakfast buffet was excellent with great selection of pastries, cereals, fruit, and cooked breakfast. Weather was not great during our stay so we were not able to make the most of the lovely pool. Location is good, about half way between the small centre and the Lake side. Quite quiet location so we travelled on the boats most days. (Boats were quite expensive). Recommend a visit to Gabrielle D'Annunzio incredible house and garden which is just a few minutes walk away. The guided tour of the house was worth the extra cost as this was very interesting. Day trip to Verona was also a good day out.

Nice hotel, great staff, clean!

Really nice hotel with very accommodating and friendly staff. They don't have an iron in the hotel however I was visiting Italy for a wedding so needed one, the staff very kindly provided one for me. They were very helpful and friendly. Good breakfast. Location up a steep hill but still good and nearby to everything. Rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and was very comfortable and spacious. Nice pool, does get a bit crowded in the day. I would stay again.

Perfect Getaway for Relaxing Short Break

As long as you can make the restricted bus and ferry timetables work for you when getting here, Gardone Riviera is a pretty, reasonably priced and relaxing location. The hotel staff at Villa Sofia were fantastic and very helpful. The room was spotless and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a superior room with a side balcony and beautiful view of the lake and gardens. The swimming pool was ideal and well serviced by staff for drinks and a lunchtime snack. Would stay here again and definitely recommend it for a relaxing break!

Good Mini Hotel

Very nice little hotel in the pleasant area of Gardone Riviera, on Lake Garda. A short stroll from the water's edge and the main restaurants etc of the town.

Staff very friendly and welcoming and the hotel itself was very nice, both externally and internally.

Great little pool and pleasant gardens to the front.

Breakfast was of a good quality with plenty to choose from and as much coffee and tea as you wished. If it's hot breakfast you're after, you're very limited to \"scrambled eggs\" though they were a little congealed for me with perhaps bacon or sausages, though the cold options were extensive and always fresh.

Top tip was a local water fountain in the car park just across the road - even had fizzy water on one of the three taps! You'd see locals constantly coming with their own bottles to fill up, rather than buy it from the supermarkets!

Shame a few kids arrived and left during our week there, but most were civilised!

Don't forget the 0.75 euro charge/tax per person per day, but I'm guessing they all have this!

Traditional Hotel

Lovely Hotel situated in an ideal location between Lake Garda (downhill) & the old town and \"Vittoriale\" (uphill). The locale is very quiet and the hotel is full of early 20th Century features. It is a fairly small Hotel and never felt crowded (we went in September). The garden is smaller than it looks in the pictures and because of its slope and deepness of the swimming pool - I felt it was unsuitable for small children. However it was an ideal spot to spend a quiet week away from it all. The hotel didn't serve dinner, but there were a multitude of restaurants for all tastes and prices within a 10-minute walk.

We stayed 2 nights and found it an excellent location to access all parts of lake Garda. The facilities at the hotel were good, the rooms had character and the staff were friendly and helpful. They even had an english newspaper every day.

Beautiful hotel, close to some lovely restaurants.

A real gem of a hotel set in the hills, tranquil setting. Room was very spacious and very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful 3 nights and would definitely stay at this hotel again. Just a stroll down the hill to some lovely restaurants and the ferry link. One restaurant that unfortunately I can't remember the name of but began with a \"G\" and was situated on a corner of the lake past a bar (it had an alleyway next to it) is definately well worth a visit simply gorgeous food!!

Very enjoyable stay

Great little hotel, handily placed between the lakeside and local attractions/old town restaurants- all about 5 minutes walk away. Room and grounds well maintained and clean. Staff very helpful. Nice clean pool, good for adults with a deep end. We liked Gardone Riviera, quieter that some resorts around the lake that were packed with tourists, but could be visited on the ferries that travel around the lake- jetty for ferry 6 minutes walk away. Good choice of Restautants just up the hill near Vittoriale. One very minor area where they could do better is supplies in the bathroom, only plastic 'glasses', though new ones each day, and Shampoo but no conditioner - so take your own if you want this.

The only bad thing about this hotel was that I was on business and not with my Wife, it was very romantic, the staff were as good as it gets, helpful and happy at all times!!

This is a special hotel with a wonderful atmosphere, ideal for family holidays or romantic breaks, I will return with my Wife one day.

Perfect location

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was lovely and in a perfect location, midway between the lake and the beautiful piazza further up the hill. We had just two reservations - the first room we were given was at the back of the hotel and directly over the rubbish area so was noisy into the evening and in the early morning as empty bottles were piled up. We asked to be moved and were given a beautiful room overlooking the lake in the distance for a supplement. Also, maybe perhaps it was early season (July 1-8), some of the staff were a little off the pace, especially in the bar/pool area. But overall our week was lovely and we would certainly choose to stay there again.

well situated hotel

Review based on Rm210.
Hotel is well situated - roughly halfway between the lake front and the 'old town'. 2 minutes walk from the excellent botanical gardens and around 10 mins walk from the Vittoriale which is worth a visit.
Our room was huge with a very impressive en-suite. Fixtures and fittings are on the 'traditional' side but nothing wrong with that.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Good selection for breakfast. Grounds kept neat and tidy and plenty of sunbeds around the pool area. It ticked all our boxes - couldn't really fault it and would happily stay there again.
Gardone is a good base but it's not the most exciting of towns. The restaurants we tried along the lake front all served a decent evening meal but if you want something a bit 'special' try the Agli Angeli in the old town - pricey by comparison with some of the others but very good. If you just need a snack/coffee try La Perla on the road that runs parallel to the promenade - have to say it's on the scruffy side but they do a good selection of cakes!
Bardolino, Garda and Sirmione are all worth a visit using the ferry system.

Lovely stay. Would definitely return.

We had a lovely time at Villa Sofia. The town of Gardone Riviera is beautiful and quaint and is perfect for a little R 'n' R away from some of the other bigger towns on the lake. Please be aware this villa is up a fairly steep hill from the lake so if you are a little older or unfit then you may want to consider a hotel closer to the action and the water. For that reason Villa Sofia is also very peaceful with very little traffic noise and it is on stunningly maintained grounds. The pool is one of the cleanest I've ever seen. Our room was big enough, with a large bathroom and little balcony. The staff were very helpful and I noticed they spoke many languages. We stayed two nights and did not want to leave. Will definitely be returning.

Delightful

A beautiful hotel in a park setting. Very comfortable rooms. It is tricky to find, however. The only sign we saw from the shorefront street leads to the back of the hotel (but it is accessible from there and the staff can give you directions to the main parking area in fromt of the hotel). Wonderful view and our room had a very nice useable balcony. The staff was extremely helpful and made phone calls to make a museum reservation. Highly recommended.

My hushband and I stayed in Villa Sophia for 1 week and had a marvellous time. We had a beautiful room overlooking the pool and lake. All the staff were pleasant, helpful and attentive. Nearby restaurants in Sopra and Fassamo all good. More good restaurants in Salo which is a 30- 40 minute walk.

Great Hotel for a relaxing and quiet holiday.

Our stay at Villa Sofia was marvellous from beginning to end. Before we arrived, the staff helped with arranging transfers from the airport. They were speedy and courteous in our email correspondence and very quick to answer all questions.

When we arrived after a delayed flight, we were welcomed by Julia who was helpful and charming.

Our room, although \"Standard\", was comfortable and pleasant with a nice view of the mountains and the lake.

The buffet style breakfast was served in a comfortable breakfast room and the selection was always tasty and plentiful. The freshly brewed coffee and bircher muesli being especially good.

The pool was really nice, although a little cold for swimming in mid September. There was never a problem with finding a sun-bed, regardless of the time of day, although, again, I suspect this was because it was low season and the hotel may not have been full.

All in all, we had a lovely week at the Villa Sofia and would be happy to return in the future.

Good for couples

A very pleasant stay at this hotel, in a beautiful setting. Would benefit couples more than anyone else. The only downside is that they do not do evening meals, just 35 bedrooms, so maybe no call for this. Overall a very nice hotel that I would fully recommend to most people.

A very pleasant and charming small hotel with great view of the lake. The staff were friendly and welcoming and made our stay so wonderful. The room had a small balcony with a lake view and was large and airy.

The pool area is nice but small and the swimming pool isn't suitable for young children as the shallow end is still 1.2 metres.

The hotel is located just a short walk (less than 10 mins) to the lake front which has a few restaurants and cafes and an even shorter walk (less than 5 mins) to the centre of Gardone Riviera.

Beautiful stunning location

Very good hotel with excellent service and very nice room, we had one overlooking the lake with a balcony. The buffet breakfast was extremely good with a very good choice. The hotel is is a nice location away from the main promenade and so is quite quiet, it is a steep walk back from the town but not too far away. The only negative is that there was not enough information available for the British tourist.

A well located quiet hotel with good pool.

Can't fault this hotel. Good location between lake restaurants (10 mins down hill# and Vittoriale restaurants #10 mins up hill). Could do with hotel staff being a bit more forthcoming with local information. If you ask them, they are very helpful, but we missed fireworks on the lake and a few other local events that would have been nice to be proactively informed about. There are local leaflets and local weather forecasts in reception, but could do with a bit more info.

Excellent service. Having had a wrong description of room on expedia website (now changed) I emailed hotel direct for upgrade and right room. ... very helpful staff when sorting it out. Hotel was clean, staff good, wifi was free in deluxe room. good buffet breakfast. Ideal location for walking down to lakeside or up to heart of village. would use this hotel again if visiting area and have recommended it to family and friends. Did have some children staying whilst there but hotel would appeal to couples and grown ups.

It was lovely - just lovely! Room was upgraded when we arrived - we faced the pool and lake - definitely worth it. The hotel upgraded it on their own free of charge. Our holiday was brilliant, and the hotel was really lovely. Clients need to understand that the hotel is up a hill, and as long as you know that, it is a great place to stay. The only other problem is that if the hotel is full the parking is a problem, particularly with the rather aggressive Germans!
