They, the staff, exceeded my expectations . Courteous, helpful, kind and pleasant are words that I would use to describe them. Everyone greets you with a bow and civility, right down to the hardest workers in the hotel. For that, i will surely come back. My stay at the Prince Hotel East was worth every yen and then some. I originally was suppose to stay at the Sunvalley Hotel, in Shiga Kogen. I lost my reservation there due to payment issues. I was hesitant about coming to the Prince Hotel. It was my first time. The room i stayed in was probably one of the best i have seen for the price. The next time I am in Shiga Kogen, i am staying at the Prince Hotel East, without a doubt.

Rooms are dated but reasonably clean. I would describe the room as adequate.

Buffet breakfast is a must as there’s no easy alternative. The variety of the food was good but the temperature of the hot food was always luke-warm.

Dinner was a mission unless you want to spend $50 or $100 (AUD) per adult for buffet dinners at the respective wings.

The clothes washing facilities free, but were atrocious. The dryers are not fit for purpose, which seems to be a theme in other reviews - take note and don’t wash anything you don’t have to or you’ll be spending hours monitoring the dryer. Don’t use the “60” setting as this doesn’t actually dry anything.

The location is beautiful and access to lifts etc is amazing. Stay on the west wing if you want ready access to the kids play area.

Beds are comfy - better than other “nicer” hotels I’ve stayed at in Japan.

It’s a picturesque location and we enjoyed ourselves but it’s budget accomodation with no frills. As a suggestion for improvement, it would be nice if they provided bottled water ever day like every other hotel in Japan.

Staff are friendly and helpful.

Ski rental was easy if you book in advance.

Limited selections of breakfast, same daily. Hotel guest with tattoo is ban from using the hot bath - many big ski in/ski out hotel allowed guest with tattoos to use the hot bath in recent years, no biggie but would have been a plus after a day of ski.

We were given the 4 single bed room for our family of 3 (2 adult + 6yrs old kid). The bed was tiny with no rooms to turn.

Overall ok decent hotel but would try out others next time.

We were here as a family of 4 (west) - with 2 teenagers. It was a nice introductory place to ski lessons.
However, the rooms are old and dated and very basic. There is a very long corridor to get to the rooms on each level, so if you end up being at the other end, you will need to walk down a long hallway to ge to your room. It wasn’t an issue for us, but if kind of felt like school dorms.
Staff don’t really speak English and it can be a bit tricky. But they have quite a few international staff working there, which helped, as we really don’t know what we were doing… so having people that could speak English when hiring the ski equipment and clothes helped a lot.

A word of advice for anyone staying here. The restaurants are very expensive and not that great. There’s the overpriced buffet, Chinese restaurant and ramen bar. They are only open at certain hours. And there a bar that serves mostly drinks and kebabs.

So if you are wanting a snack or something in between meal times, you are stuck with the vending machines and very limited snacks they have in the souvenir shop. Very isolated.

If you are coming via Shinkansen and you get off at Nagano - stock up on what you need there - snacks, food, drinks - there’s a grocery store downstairs and shops around the station, including a 7-11.

You can also catch the shuttle bus to Ichinose - and get some things from the little convenience store there. There’s a few more restaurants there too, but the shuttle buses start at 5pm.

We stayed in the South building. The staff are incredible. Attentive and professional. Food and service was outstanding. Room was small but comfortable. So good having ski in ski out. Godala at the door and we were lucky it snowed and we had good skiing in mid Dec. Only thing I would have changed was to book the 3 bed room for a bit more space and views over the ski field. Bus from Nagano Station was easy to catch with luggage.

Great skiing lodge- ski in/out to slopes. Restaurant served excellent food however it was the only option available during our stay (end of March) and it was expensive and really not suitable for very young children. Also only one shop open with limited food options. Not so great for very small children- we could have purchased supplies to bring in if we had known. Ability to go to other parts of resort limited at this time in the season, Staff were very helpful.

We found our stay uneventful. I have stayed at this hotel 4 times over the years and it doesn’t change so it is quite dated. There are new doonas on the beds but they are too thick for the heated room. Also, no descent lounge areas for relaxation. But, the hotel has a fantastic location and dining room.

Spent 4 nights and was very satisfied with my stay. The breakfast and dinners were buffet style in a large cafeteria, with a very nice selection of different options each day. The semi-enclosed hot bath (gender segregated) was nice, though the view is restricted only to the very top of the tree line. The ski rental shop staff were very friendly and helpful, and the the facilities were nice. The ramen restaurant was great!

Apart from the bath, there was really nothing to do, since the hotel is isolated, but that was to be expected. My only criticism is that there was no gym, which would give people another option to pass the time.

We visited the hotel for a ski trip and loved it all! All three buildings are ski in / ski out, have rental equipment and lift tickets available on site, and provide a great launching pad for a great ski experience. We stayed in the west tower and enjoyed the onsen and multiple on-site restaurants. Would definitely stay again!

Great for skiers! We were able to ski all the slopes without ever leaving the property! We used all 5 ski lifts between south, west and East blogs. Our room was very cozy and the view of the slopes was amazing. Hotel breakfast was delicious. Room stayed very hot even though we had the top of the window open. So hot that sleeping was uncomfortable. We rented our skies, boots and poles. Process was very easy and efficient. The hotel shuttle bus was great as well. Each evening we used the free shuttle and went to neighboring ski towns for dinner. Onsen in west bldg was very nice and clean. We also paid 1,000 yen (round trip) and used another shuttle to go see the snow monkeys. Overall, pretty satisfied.

Hotel is super convenient for skiers as it’s located right on top of ski lifts. Restaurants are restricted to ones within the hotel which all closes early (latest is 10). Prince hotels has different wings so there are shuttles every hour to send you to different buildings if you wish to dine there.

Rooms are old and basic but spacious compared to regular Japanese rooms. It’s for you to sleep and go ski, so don’t expect too much. Not all staffs speaks english so you gotta try approaching different faces. However the ski instructors for hire speaks fluent English!

3 nights in snowy Shiga Kogen

Always come back here when we ski in Shiga Kogen. Stay in the west wing for easy access to semi-outdoor onsen. Twin room was good size and comfortable. Room getting a little dated with wall paper peeling in spots, but not an issue for us! Good meals available, but on the expensive side. Given that however, there is an extensive choice at the breakfast buffet. Downstairs shop has good selection of instant ramen and drinks if you ate happy with this. Ease of access to the slopes is fantastic. Will come back again next time I ski here.

It's all about skiing!

The Prince hotel has three buildings (West, South and East) and we stayed in the South Wing, which offers a convenient and direct access to the Gondola 2 of the Yakebitaiyama ski resort.
The hotel clearly shows signs of aging but they managed to keep it in good shape. The rooms are small, within the Japanese average size, but still offering enough comfort. Anyway, skiing was our primary objective!
The room is cleaned every 4 days, which for us didn't really pose a problem. A kettle is available in the room and every other floor will have hot water dispenser for guests. There are vending machines everywhere and a convenience shop next to the front desk.
Staff are polite but English is limited. Luckily there was an English speaking staffer around most of the time we stayed there and we went to him for almost every inquiry.
Dining options are limited since walking to Ichinose village takes at least 20 minutes. Nevertheless the hotel has a shuttle bus connecting the three buildings and in the evening goes (only once) all the way to Ichinose, and back around 9pm.
In the South Wing itself, there's a new izakaya in premises (next to the ski rental shop) and the hotel restaurant, where they serve a dinner buffet.
There are also lockers on the ground floor where one can leave the ski gear (the locker number corresponds to your room number).
The only drawback for us was that the wifi was only available in the common areas.

Rooms were quite small but was fine for what we needed for our time in Shiga Kogen. It was nice to be able to rent ski equipment directly from the hotel instead of having to use a third party. Each room came with a locker to hold ski equipment if you were renting for multiple days which was a nice convenience. Overall would recommend especially if you are in the area for skiing or snowboarding since the slopes are literally right outside the back door.

I must say the staff are as helpful as possible however have limited English. The slops the hotel is situated on are definetly not for beginners as was labbled and we only found out on our last day another mountain had a beginners course even after asking multiple times. You only have one option for food at the hotel which is WELL overpriced. We weren't told of other restaurants which were a quick bus ride away. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this hotel to others.

Great Ski-Out Ski-In but food choice limited

Great ski in ski out location. Rooms in the East Wing are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast at 2200 yen is expensive for the limited choice given. After one breakfast, our group opted for breadrolls and hot drinks from the lobbg shop for breakfast.

There is no wireless facility available in the rooms. The wireless worked reasonably well in the hotel lobby area at all times when we used it but the hotel was fairly empty during the period of our stay.

We avoided dinner in the East Wing restaurant as we heard it was expensive. Took the hotel shuttle to the West Wing and then walked into Ichinose to a Japanese restaurant which had decent food, but was crowded and slow. The shuttle back from West Wing to East Wing stopped at 8.30 pm but our Japanese friends managed to persuade the hotel to provide a shuttle back at 9.45 pm one evening. Otherwise, it is a good 20-25 mins walk back to the East Wing.

Had dinner in the Chinese restaurant in the West Wing one evening. The service was excellent and the food tasty but extremely oily.

Out of date hotel with nothing nearby

The hotel itself is fine, perfectly clean. The decor is out of date and shabby.

The real issue with this hotel is that it is not near anything. The nearest shops/bars/restaurants are at least a half an hour walk away (in ice, snow and freezing conditions).

This also means that you have to eat in the hotel. There are very limited food options, and expect to pay over $80 per head just for food.

There are no double beds available.

Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel -

Inconvenient location - 2h ride by bus from Nagano station if you don't have a car, and the bus costs JPY 1,900 per person one way.
Hotel - very old hotel with moldy smell. East wing has nicer rooms but the entrance hall was like an old community centre. Shower in the room was a unit bath and very uncomfortable with dark lights. Bed/furnishings were okay. Breakfast was okay too. West wing has bigger facilities but the rooms (4ppl) were terrible. It was like as an youth hostel for students with folding beds. Restaurant was also very bad with same food from breakfast to dinner. JPY 3,600 for buffet at that quality is definitely too expensive. Bath (Roten buro) was small and the changing area was old and dirty. It was not a hote spring but just normal big bath.
Skiing - Mountains were very nice and wide range of slopes available. Gondolas/lifts were also speedy and did not feel any stress for the queue.

Overall, it was a great experience for ski/snow boarding in Shiga kogen but never try this hotel. The quality is very bad for the price.

We stayed in the East Wing for four nights.The view from the rooms is spectacular, even from the dining room. However we were there in early January and the place was very quiet. We took the breakfast deal, luckily because this was the only place to eat. We had our lunches at the West Wing as there were cheaper lunch options available. There was a lack of eating places at night, the only places being the East Restaurant, West Restaurant and the Chinese Restaurant. We ate at the Chinese Restaurant as it was far cheaper. The service was great but there is nothing to do at night, especially when there are few other guests to mingle with. The hotel does run a free shuttle to the West Wing, however I think next time I would much rather stay in the West Wing. If you're after a view however, you won't beat the East Wing rooms.

なので当日着の朝ご飯が食べれなかったのが残念です。Xperia経由なので無理かもしれませんが、情報共有があれば助かりました。
とは言え志賀高原で泊まるにはやはりプリンスホテルがベストかもしれません。

西館ファミリールームに泊まりました。Hotel.comではどの部屋なのか記載がありませんでした。またチェックアウト時間もホームページ記載と違っていました。実際に利用する際には確認したほうがいいと思います。
部屋はそれほど広くありません。ほとんど荷物を置くスペースもないと思ってください。風呂は大浴場がありますが、朝の利用はできません。
