My wife and I spent two nights at Monverde Wine Experience Hotel in October 2025 and it was a fantastic experience. The grounds are beautiful, and even though the harvest season had finished, the property was spectacular. They welcome you with a glass of sparkling wine which is a nice touch.

The property is comprised of several original buildings all renovated. We selected a prestige room and had one other room in our hallway. The room was huge! It overlooked the vines with a nice wood deck to relax.

The breakfast at the restaurant was fantastic!! (See photos) We didn't stay for dinner as we prefer to drive in to the towns so I can't comment on the dinner.

The pool area is small but has enough seating for 20 or so guests. We weren't there for the pool (only heated by sun outside) but grabbed a few hours at the end of the day and visiting wineries. They have a nice bar. If you want a seat get there early. The location means the pool is always in the shade while we were there in October.

Staff were fantastic. I reached out in advance for recommendations and they assisted. They even helped make a reservation for us in the town of Amarente.

I would highly recommend this hotel for a couple days in the Vinho Verde Region.

Only thing which could be improved upon, was the wine tasting experience we booked. There are 5 wines paired with small tastings. It had a short tour. Unlike tours at wineries, this was lacking and could have been better. Their wines are nice, but as a group

Great place to relax and taste good wine and food

Great place to relax, eat and drink nice wine. The accommodation was unique, spacious and comfortable. The restaurant had an outside terrace with lovely views. The 5 course tasting menu with paired wines was fantastic and the young waiter who served us was humorous and extremely knowledgeable about the wines. The service he gave was exemplary. However, during our 2 night stay we encountered a significant number of other staff who could do with more training regarding service and general attentiveness (not just in the restaurant but mainly around the hotel when coming across staff. I would expect them to greet you, etc and not just walk past). The pool area and bar was nice but there was not enough shade or sunbeds and the youngish bar tender was rude to some guests. Overall we loved everything about the hotel but it was let down a bit by some of the staff.

Beautiful hotel, very mixed experience. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The things they get right - like golf cart transportation to and from your room, they do very well. The things they get wrong are extremely perplexing for a hotel of this caliber.

Sadly, aside from the breakfast buffet, the food is mostly inedible. As other reviews mention, steer clear of the tough tempura Octopus. The cod burger was like something from the great depression. They even managed to mess up a ham and cheese sandwich (hard bread, flavorless.) Shockingly bad.

The overall feel of the hotel was “stuffy” - in many cases things were not well explained and you felt like you were bothering staff when asking. We received no welcome drink, a young lady was sent to bring bags up to our room that were almost half her size (we ended up bringing them up… invest in a proper porter.) But the worst was the spa/pool experience.

The spa staff controls the outdoor and indoor pool, and boy are they miserable. The pools are open til 8 but the staff will start packing up chairs around 6:30, drawing dirty looks at anyone left on a lounger. They also are VERY keen on enforcing indoor pool swim cap rules then turning around and wanting to charge you 3 pound 50 for them. It comes off as very rude and tacky - and likely why the indoor pool remains largely unused.

The restaurant staff was kind and wonderful. You can get a great omelet at breakfast (though no one will tell you.) Beautiful place, shoddy service

The staff and service is excellent. The individual rooms are a distance away from the lobby/restaurant, which I didn’t like so much. That, however, is secondary to the excellent staff and the large comfortable rooms. The wine tasting was extremely well done.

Service was fantastic . Glass of bubbly when you walk in the door. We stayed in room 37 and loved the two balconies.

The food was amazing. We had the tempura octopus and duck magret. Very delicious dishes that felt like a Michelin star experience.

The hotel was very accommodating to our young child as well.

If you’re looking for a great hotel in a beautiful vineyard with fantastic food and wine, then Monverde Hotel is where you should stay.

This was an absolutely lovely experience! Loved that they were accommodating to families travelling with children. Our son loved the juice tasting alongside our wine tasting experience. The staff member presenting to us was very knowledgeable, so sweet and kind! We had a few minor hiccups when checking into the room, however they were tended to very quickly and resolved without hassle. We loved the property, all the meals were excellent. Overall such a fabulous addition to our Portugal vacation!

We loved our stay at the Monverde Wine Experience Hotel. The property was amazing, beautiful, quiet and fabulous accommodation.

The spa was very relaxing and the bar and restaurant were wonderful. The bar staff are very knowledgeable about their wines and know exactly what wines will suit your palette. The tasting menu for dinner with wine pairing was delicious with very attentive and knowledgeable staff.

The Wine Tasting Experiences we did were one of the best - thank you so much Sofia!

We found all the staff to be so friendly, polite and helpful always going over and above.

This is a stunning property located in the Wine valley district with beautiful views of the vineyards. The reception and restaurant area are modern and well designed, spacious, and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner (not included) were excellent quality. The Room was in a separate block a short walk/drive away. It was exceptionally spacious with a comfortable bed, plenty of storage, and a very large bathroom (with two sinks!). Staff were always welcoming and friendly. Overall a lovely peaceful experience. You need a car to get to local restaurants/towns.

This was the third and final stay in a short tour of wine related hotels and quintas in and around the Douro region of northern Portugal. While they were all excellent, we both agreed that Monverde was the only one we absolutely must return to.
The location is absolutely stunning, with the hotel's central building and the 3 accommodation buildings all situated within the vineyards themselves.

The architecture and decor managed that very difficult balance between design and comfort expertly, and the wine and food were of the highest quality.

That said, the thing that made this place such an unmissable spot was the staff. From check in to breakfast, wine tasting to massage treatments in the spa, chefs to the cocktail barman, everyone was fantastic at their job and incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Quite possibly the best hotel stay we've had in Portugal. See you next time.

Room was excellent. Good linens and comfortable bed. As you would expect, based in a vineyards. Good pool. Very friendly and helpful staff. WiFi was patchy and weak. Food was hit and miss. Disappointed with tasting menu where seasoning was a problem. Much enjoyed the grouper. The dessert can charitably be described as poor. Thankfully the flight of wine was generous in quantity and rescued the evening along with the fun waiter - vino verde seems to be done in quantity as much as anything. That said breakfast was good as was the food on the bar menu which we had second night

What a wonderful stay! This place really is special. I had a more “basic” room, and it was still stunning. The food left a bit to be desired, but the facilities and services more than made up for it. The staff was wonderfully accommodating, and helped me book spa and wine tasting appointments. My only regret was not staying longer!

We stayed at the Monverde hotel for one night on our way from Lisbon to Porto. We wanted to have a whole wine-dine-sleep experience so we booked in advance a package including a picnic, green wine tasting, bike tour and a short massage. On our arrival check in was slow but we got some bubbly to ease our discomfort of waiting after a long drive.
While waiting on our room we had our picnic. Set in the vineyard looking toward green and sky there was a table for two with fruit, muffins, salad, Sandwiches, cheese and meat platter, little empanadas, wine, water and orange juice. All tasted fresh and great quality!
Our room was upgraded to a superior suite featuring a bathtub facing the vineyards, absolutely breathtaking! After having some rest we went to have our short massage, passed on the bicycle tour and scheduled our wine tasting for dinner time. The rooms are located a short walk between the vineyard and the reception but there are electric cars for your luggage or if you need assistance.
Dinner at the restaurant - we had stuffed mushroom for starter, sticky rice with fresh fish and shrimp and the lamb rack. Ordered the caramel desert twice. Delicious! There was some confusion with our wine tasting and we got a wine pairing instead (totally worth it anyway) and that was sorted at check out with the manager deducting the tasting off our preordered package - no fuss.
Even though Monverde is not in Douro it totally delivers on a beautiful and special experience!

Beautiful relaxing place in wine country

Photos do not do this place justice. The area is very beautiful and scenic. The hotel is basically in the middle of a vineyard. There are multiple common places to relax throughout the complex. The spa and pool areas are great. There is both and indoor and outdoor pool. My only complaint is that the food in the restaurant (for dinner) was terrible which is unfortunate because it is not clear if there are any nearby restaurants in the remote area where this hotel is located. I would definitely return here and stay more than one night. Nearby are Braga and Guimaraes which are well worth the visit. The drive to this area was also quite scenic.

If I would honestly rate this property, I would definitely give it a 5. Amazing architecture with stunning design. Great space and landscape and an amazing getaway.

However everything else to be fair is way below average. We had a couple massage at the spa for 120 euros. Probably one of the worst spa/massage experiences. Neither the atmosphere or the people were inviting, without forgetting the low quality delivered.
As for the hotel and overall service, slow, slow and slow. Either the property is understaffed or the team working there is without experience or haven't actual been working in a 5 Star facility.
Hopefully things will improve in the future as as mentioned, it is a stunning property.

Simply magnificent!

We just stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. Our whole experience was simply brilliant. The staff are outstanding, they were friendly and attentive. I have not encountered such great service for a long time. The wine from this region is simply delicious and from their winery is lovely. We also did their winery tour which I would also recommend. The manager Miguel is a gentleman and his staff Daniel and Emmanuel to name a few are a credit to the hotel.

Beautiful place, terrible night's rest

Despite the beauty and luxury of this resort, the desk clerks did not display a good service ethic. Arriving late with a headache, I asked for any remedy and was told that her colleague took the last one today. Then she says she would check, came back and said not a word. The air conditioning vent was built opposite the king bed on a raised platform and rained down cold air on our heads. We had a terrible night's sleep trying to hide under the covers to protect ourselves from the draft. If we hid underneath too long, it got hot and stuffy. In the morning we asked if all rooms had the same placement, she once again disappeared into an office and returned to say all rooms were the same and no one had ever complained. Hard to believe. We left.

We would have liked to stay because the vineyard, buildings, food, decor were richly done and impressive. But if your head is being frozen into a block when you sleep, it defies a good night's sleep. The sheets were soft and scented- everything terrific except for this major flaw.

The best service I've ever had. The views are stunning, the food is delicious (try the salmon appetizer and rice/spare rib dish for two), and the wines are lovely and reasonably priced.

Every member of the staff ensured we had a special experience.

The spa is nice and the couples massage was very good.

Great place for a relaxing romantic trip. Also consider driving to Amarante to walk around and have lunch.

Do not miss this Place!

This amazing hotel is in the middle of a Vineyard- and although the cellar was closed, we enjoyed the peace & the serene setting. The rooms are of a very high standard and very comfortable.
We enjoyed a lovely long lunch in the restaurant and again the dinner was exceptional. Our waiter - Vitor was very helpful and friendly and made our stay even more memorable.
This hotel is very good value and was beyond what we expected. A must if you want a short break.

Wonderful romantic hotel

The hotel is located in between nice vineyards, out of Amarante. The rooms are located in a separate building of the main building, which contains the reception, the lobby, the restaurant and the SPA. The hotel is very nice and unique designed and so are the rooms. The dinner and especially the breakfast were very good and were served very estetically. The only thing that should be improved is the insufficient lights inside the rooms. We will be more than happy to stay in this hotel again.

A wonderful relaxing way to spend a few days.

The Monverde was wonderful. It was a truly wonderful experience. The staff were very helpful and the wine experience day was great. Food was generally good, at breakfast there was a very good variety to choose from. Our server, Sofia, at dinner was exceptional. The pool area and the spa were second to none. Would highly recommend it to all who don't want the hassle of driving to Porto. We stayed at Monverde and took the train in for a day. The only negative I can say is, that it's a little hard to find the hotel. A GPS with co-ordinaries is really required.

Top-notch escape at the tip of the Douro Valley

Probably the best place I have ever stayed on a trip abroad and will ever stay at abroad in my whole life. The inn is set within about a 10-acre sun-drenched vineyard of white and red grapes, looking out onto the small mountains surrounding Amarante. The individual rooms are comfortable, smart, creative, and state-of-the art. The grounds and separate vegetable gardens are a magnificent escape to walk through. You are left to yourself, if you wish, and you feel that you are the owners and only occupants of the property even though there may be 5 to 20 other guests at any one time. Breakfasts are sumptuous and healthy.

Hotel amonst vineyards not close to Douro valley

The property is beautiful, but had issues at check in. We were given keys to a room that was already occupied. It was quite a shock for us as well as the people already in the room. The staff then found is another room for the night and that we would be upgraded the next night to a room better than what I booked. One of the hotel staff escorted is to the new room and remade the bed so it was two twin beds. They also gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. The next day we had a relaxing day at the pool and spa and then had an amazing dinner with wine pairings. This property much further away to Douro Valley than I thought. You definitely need a car while staying at this hotel.

Nice Hotel in beautiful surroundings as described. We stayed four nights. Main disappointment : NO sommelier at the restaurant, not even explanation on wines on the menu (characteristics, grapes etc..). We came due to the \"Wine experience\"...servers at the restaurant knew nothing about wine...There are large barrels of wine locked downstairs.
Need improvement also on service offerings: somme positive recommendations: smile please, hire a sommelier, train servers at the restaurant (much too slow), put knives and forks before serving hot dishes, serve french fries hot and crispy please, not cold and soft (gives a bad impression of cooking skills), clean the rooms as expected (not cleaned at 4pm), please replace the \"nescafé\" powder (a single pack for two..) by a Nespresso machine, open the bar at the swimming pool on time (no one at 12:30, two hours after we arrived): please invest in service and amenities or clients will be disappointed. Raise the price if needed to offer services.

We had a fantastic few days at the hotel - the room was perfect and the location is stunning. Incredibly peaceful and relaxing with great wine and food as well. We will definitely be going back!

Perfect getaway

The hotel and its surroundings are stunning and the perfect location for a relaxing getaway. Very peaceful and hardly noticed any other guests. Breakfast was a good selection, restaurant/room service very reasonable and excellent quality.

20-40 euros in a taxi will get you to nearby towns, we went to Amarante and Guimaraes where there were heaps of resturaunts and enough sightseeing to easily fill a day. Braga also came highly recommended but we didn't quite make it that far.

We travelled from the UK via Porto airport. On landing we caught the metro to central Porto and had a perfect day exploring, then it's easy to reach hotel via train to Caide then 20 euro taxi, or we were quoted 50 euro direct taxi between the hotel and airport. Trains are VERY cheap and efficient, user friendly and nice views travelling to the suburbs.

Staff at the hotel couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Loved every second!

Romantic Getaway in Northern Portugal

The Monverde is an oasis of beauty in an exceptional setting , nestled in the vineyards of a winery. It has unique and award winning architecture. The staff were very professional and helpful specially those at the front desk and in the restaurant . The spa would be, by itself, enough reason to visit this hotel.
It is situated off the beaten track but close to the town of Amarante.
We cannot wait to return,but in the fall next time.

Comfortable hotel amid the vineyards.

In the dark this hotel was not easy to find but we had a warm welcome and a glass of sparkling wine from the reception staff at 11.45pm! Our room was a short walk from the main building, the middle of three in the East House, a low stone building in traditional style. The only problem was that the front door (glazed) was the main way of letting in daylight as there was a lack of windows. The room and bathroom were well equipped and very comfortable (although 3 coat hangers each was not enough.) Breakfast was excellent and open until 11am.
All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Dinners were good, especially the Wine Experience dinner, at which a wine supplier introduced a range of excellent white wines and the chef talked about the accompanying food. All was delivered in Portuguese so we were fortunate to have the Wine director translating into English for us.
We were unfortunate with wet weather but the spa offered massages and there was the pool for those staying around the hotel.This was an excellent break in a lovely place.

A beautiful setting.

This property is run by Quinta da Lixa, a winery that is near by and has a huge production of various white wines and Rose. The property is a wonderful place to relax and look over the vineyards. The restaurant is excellent and there is a indoor and outdoor pool to relax by. If you want to wine taste at da Lixa get the hotel staff to set up a tasting for you and try to get them to drive you to the winery or you may get lost as the GPS puts you in the vineyard somewhere and you will drive in circles for a while.

A tip for anyone coming to the region is to book your wine tasting at any Quinta's in advance.

Wonderful place to chill out for a few days

We stayed Thursday to Monday for a chill out, do very little, break. Hotel is very stylish with great attention to design detail. Its very contemporary is style and if you like that, which we do, you will not be disappointed. Excellent spa facilities, and a good restaurant with tasting menus during the week. Staff were friendly and helpful, Rui in the restaurant was particularly good, very friendly and professional.
On the Saturday there was a wine tasting from some of the vineyards wines. We were the only english speakers, everyone else was Portugese, so they gave us our own personal tasting presentation in English first without being asked.

Impressive modern hotel in a vineyard

The Monverde Hotel is new, beautiful, and clean. The food at the restaurant was excellent and the price, though on the pricier side for Portugal, was reasonable for the quality. The vineyard and hotel grounds are great for strolling. The hotel staff was very friendly. We did not try out the health facilities, but they looked nice. We went in February (off season), and there were very few guests or activities at the hotel. We would like to come back during the harvest. We found the hotel to be a nice base for visiting the Duoro Valley, which is about 1.5 hours away by car.

Superb in all ways - ambience is second to none, staff were considerate and attentive, cuisune and wine exceeded expectations and to top it off it is in a fabulous location in close proximity to Porto, Guimaraes, Amarante, Pinhao & Vila Real.

A Paradise for Wine Lovers and Peaceful Place

We stayed in this place for 4 nights and had an experience of a lifetime. Staff were just absolutely respectful, professional and accommodating of our needs anytime. The food is like an other hotel where selections are limited. However, we would still rate their food with 4 stars. They have a complete facility of pool indoor and outdoor, spa, and gym with a big wine cellar and a scenic landscape wherever you look. This place is to return to if you wish to retreat the elegant way in the heart of nature.

Fantastic find if you appreciate modern architure in a country setting, and if you like wine of course ... Opened this year, rooms are quite spectacular; mine had an enormous terrace overlooking vineyards, all. The trapping of five stars including spa, pool and good restaurant. Only criticism was sometimes slow and confused service in the restaurant - probably as there are sill few foreign tourists and staff aren't used to it yet.

Sugerencia: 1) Falta de agua agua en gran cantidad inmediatamente fuera del sauna y turco, no puede ser que en un hotel de esta calidad tengan un suministro de agua tan limitada, y no venden botellas para hacer uso de ellas en el spa, pésimo!
2) Se escucha todo de las otras habitaciones.
Felicitaciones: Toda la gente que trabaja en el hotel, tienen un servicio y trato increíble, sobre todo Renata que guía las catas, Sommelier y staff de servicio de restaurante, sobre el promedio de la insdustria… felicitaciones al equipo!
