Really good view of the city as we stayed on the 43rd floor in the tallest building in the city. Breakfast buffet that was included was very nice. However, dinner in one of the restaurants was very overpriced and the food was only so so. Would not eat in the hotel next time.

An excellent stay at Sofitel Kunming. The services are awesome & my room is very clean. A very convenient location as well. Their staff, Jessica is a very outstanding person. She helped me booked my roundtrip train tickets from Kunming to Dali. And more. She is a very responsible & helpful individual. I'd like to give her a 5 Stars out of 5 for her remarkable service as well. I really appreciate everything that she has done. I will stay in Sofitel Kunming again in the future when I'm back.

There are many details of this hotel that we find exceptional. First of all, the elevators offer indication as to which one is approaching your floor for the up or down direction you want to go to and they are very quiet. Secondly, they have all the in-suite accessories that you can think of, from full sets of chinaware, glassware and cutlery to complete set of stationary. For a bonus, our 270 degree view suite offers great night view of the city. Last but not least, staff we have encountered, from restaurants to the front desk, are all highly courteous and professional.

My fiends stayed at their room had no hot water.
They were put into a room that was not used. Moist with mildew type atmosphere.
That room had issues and repairs were done at 2 am.
Breakfast was far less than expected, no cheese and far too oily foods!
Never again!!!!!!

Really nice hotel for the price. Spacious room with nice view. 30mins walk to Nanping St for food and shopping. Only drawback that the hotel allows smoking.it has a strong smoke smell in hallway even on a nonsmoking floor.

Stayed in a club room and it is big and spacious and the bed is comfy too. The view is breathtaking at level 40. The service at the club was top notch with a good list of drinks and food was fresh and delicious.

Great modern hotel. Spacious room w comfortable bed. Wonderful breakfast buffet. Very friendly staff and great service. Jessica at the reception desk went out of her way to make us feel welcome, as did the other staff members.The hotel is close to the train ststion, an additional plus if you want to travel to other Yunnan areas.

there were issues that should be fixed. the bathroom has not enough light for shaving. the desk power plug door has hinges that make it difficult to open. there is power only on one side of the bed. Noise on our final night from the water riser. there was no control to turn off the bed side lamps without turning all lights off.
Happy hour was great. the people working at the hotel were wonderful but few spoke English. however, with all the new translators that was not a big issue. i think we were the only foreigners in the hotel. very nice looking place with fantastic views.

This hotel could be one of the best Sofitel I have had stayed. Staff were warm and helpful, Dennis at front desk even helped us packed some larger gift items we bought, breakfast was to die for, view of the city and the lake from our room at 37 floor was
unforgettable, this hotel has its uniqueness, love our 4 nights’ stay, so enjoyable.

The hotel is a bite aged but well kept. Gym and pool are so well equipped, staff are very helpful,
this is a well maintained Sofitel, love it. BTW, the breakfast maybe one of the best that I have ever

Not up to 5 stars standard!

First off: I have called in to request my room to have flowers for my g/f. Nothing at all!
Second: We had to wait 20 mins for our room to get ready
3rd: location was terrible, as no good shopping malls near our area
4th: Our room condition was not good. Please renovate it!

But I have to say Sofitel restaurants, swimming pool and gym were pretty impressive. Hope next time I will have a better experience.

Great views of the surrounding area and on main roads and therefore easy to get a taxi.

Lovely piece of luxury for a weekend getaway

Super hotel. Everything was lovely and we were made to feel welcome by all the members is staff. The breakfast was particularly good, and we loved the cocktails in the bar - grea view of Kunming too. Only downside is that the hotel is south of th city centre proper so there is not too much to do in the immediate vicinity.

Very nice 5 star hotel in Kunming. This was our second time staying here, and although I was more ‘wowed’ on my first arrival last year (fresh fruit in our room, hotel provided extra touches) - this time was more of a standard hotel experience. Clean rooms, good amenities, steam room sauna and pool. The only thing I didn’t like was that it was mandatory to wear swimming caps in the pool. But overall I like this hotel, the buffet is really good.

Experience far beneath Sofitel’s usual standards

Among the dozen or so Sofitels I’ve stayed at, this is the one that fell clearly short. A small part of it is due to underwhelming service standards, but the major contributing factor may be the kind of crowd it attracts. There were drunken women openly cajoling the nouveau rich in the lobby; there were unsophisticated domestic tourists poking curiously at the cheeses at the breakfast buffet and speaking loudly along the corridors at 7am. There was also a used condom box underneath one of the beds, thankfully with no condoms. For once, I was glad, rather than sad, that my stay at a Sofitel was short.

The Kunming Sofitel is a handsome 50 story structure, towering in Central Downtown Kunming, less than a mile, southwest, from the City’s major shopping complex, pedestrian mall, etc.. Because of its height, many rooms command a panoramic view of the city. The rooms are spacious, handsomely appointed with touches of luxury as in its high quality linen, a big soaking tub (and TV) in the bathroom. Breakfast consists of a very generous selection of Western and Asia choices. Perhaps the hotel’s only flaw is the quality of its service, which, while certainly adequate, does not meet the standard of a five-star establishment (and how impressive the hotel itself is). The problem here may simply be the difficulty many Chinese cities now encounter in hiring good help; not being a “First Tier” city in China, the type of “five-star” service sometimes available in high-end establishments, may not be found in Kunming for some years to come. Nevertheless, the Kunming Sofitel deserves my warm recommendation.

Hotel is new and modern. Not my cup of tea from a decor viewpoint but what was more important for me is cleanliness and quality of stay, and the hotel scores highly on both counts. Breakfast buffet spread is extensive, they offer a good selection of western, chinese and yunnan dishes. My only issue related to communication. Command of english among the hotel staff is limited. The hotel should invest in training their staff in English.

Wonderful hotel. Location is good. Breakfast on 49th floor was amazing. Wide variety. Room service was awesome. Great service and cleanliness. Try the free bath bombs and they have a choice of pillows! There is nothing more to ask from this hotel for the price that you pay! I swear ill only stay at this hotel if i ever come back again! Commendation to Tina the rooms manager! She helped us out of her way to solve our issues in Kunming. This hotel deserves commendation! 50 free movies to watch in your room!

Opulent Hotel, great servicebut something is amiss

Sofitel is beautifully decorated, luxury everywhere, with great concierge service. However something is not quite there for me to give it 5 star rating. Firstly, let me point out it offers the most comfortable bedding anywhere I have stayed. Now things that can be improved: lighting is room, was too dark, simply not enough. Housekeeping did not vacuum properly. Need to get Oreck vacuum cleaners for hotel use! Other than frequent customers' line, front desk has no line and Chinese customers just cut in front of anyone to go directly to front desk clerks disregarding those in line. Having lots of rooms as Sofitel does, it should set up a waiting line to stop such rude behaviors. Breakfast spread was plentiful and over the top, but some of the foods were not hot. Putting containers on hot plates would help. Other restaurants in hotel were excellent! Traffic is a mess in front of the hotel all the time due to highway construction nearby, with all cars diverting to the road in front of hotel. It will be done in 6 months, so back to normal then. FYI only. Kudos to all the concierge staff! All did a great job led by Max and Michael! I would give Sofitel 4.5 stars due to above improvements needed. BTW, the wifi was not strong, kicking out all the time, but I don;t know what can be done about it.

A Nice 5 stars hotel at Kunming

Overall speaking the hotel is okay except the lighting system inside the room is so poor. First the lighting system is not bright enough which make your room is so dark; Secondly, it will be automatically turn on after a few minues when you swithch off the light nor trun off the main switch. It will affect your sleep if you could sleep under the light then it's okay for you. The breakfast at the 49/f is just so so, need to improve.

I've booked the Superior Room w/ twin beds.
The room was quite small.
- not much closet space
- small size drawers
Room cleaniness
- it is not clean very well
- stains found in bathroom mainly
Location
- not the best location to find good food
- quite a bit of traffic going around town and also coming from the airport

The taxi charge should be about 100-110 RMB from the airport to hotel and vice versa, but when we left we asked for the staff to flag us a taxi and he said it was 130 RMB. It was told to us that the taxi was in cooperation w/ the hotel therefore it is fixed price. You can easily flag a taxi on your own outside the hotel which will cost less if you do not have any heavy luggage.

A very convenient and nice biz hotel

Given the hotel is very new, the facilities are nice n complete. All the staff were very friendly. Both front desk and FB severs have been very helpful. The variety of food for breakfast were amazing. However, aside from the bakery, rest of the food was mediocre. Cleanliness of the restaurant can be improved. Overall very nice stay.

Beautiful hotel with nice rooms

Beautiful hotel in Kunming, was surprised with rose petals on the bed and around the bathtub. Our room was nice and clean, with great night time views. The buffet was amazing, there was a large variation in different kinds of foods, however the lunch time dim sum restaurant and Thai restaurant were very mediocre and had very long wait times for food and service. I wasn't particularly amazed by the hotel lobby, the decor was very strange and didn't give me a five star hotel feel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall. beautiful new hotel with great service with the exception of the two restaurants.

I have travelled the World, stayed in some fine hotels, but Sofitel Kunming is right up there, we stayed a couple of weeks, and still frequent for lunch and dinner, the staff in particular Irina and King have been wonderful, friendly and went out of their way to always assist with any quiries we had.

This is a stunning hotel, beautifully appointed with excellent facilities and a very capable and helpful staff. My room was enormous and full of fantastic amenities. I never thought I would use a TV next to a bathtub, but... dang! And being so high, the hotel offers some incredible views of the city.
The staff was so accommodating, helping me with sending postcards and providing an extra charging cable for my electronics when mine malfunctioned.
The surrounding area is convenient for car travel to many sites, pleasant enough to walk around but not really planned with that in mind.
Overall, I can't recommend the hotel enough though. Wonderful place to relax at or do business from!

Sofitel Kunming is a fantastic hotel

Mohamed, the executive chef, was great and provided us with a fabulous spread for breakfast and lunch. He went out of the way to ensure we were happy. That was true also of Clark (front desk) who welcomed us when we signed in and Kyle Zhang and Andy (concierge staff) who went out of the way to ensure we got taxis to go to wherever we wished. All in all, Sofitel Kunming is a fantastic hotel for its friendly staff and lovely food, great room (corner, luxury room) and nice atmosphere.

Très bien mais...

Très bon hôtel, un poil vieillissant : personnel d'accueil très sympathique, grande chambre confortable (malgré le lit trop mou). 2 points noirs et incompréhensibles : les vestiaires de la belle piscine intérieure étaient très sales, notamment les douches ; et le service du restaurant Kwee Zeen est catastrophique. Le buffet est magnifique, mais il n'y a pas de réassort. Les stands sont mal tenus, il manque parfois des couverts pour se servir mais surtout, le restaurant est sensé fermer à 21h30, mais cuisiniers comme serveurs commencent à ranger et nettoyer dès 20h... Dommage...
