The location was great, and I really liked the courtyard however the room had no soundproofing and was very noisy, the shower leaked everywhere out of the bath onto the floor and the breakfast didn’t have a very good selection. On top of that I chose the hotel because it said it had a gym and a spa. The gym was very limited, and noisy, with one treadmill fully broken with the belt ripped to shreds. The massage I had in the spa was ok, but there was no sound system for the music, just a Bluetooth speaker that pinged every time the lady got a phone message. The massage table was very squeaky and there was no low light in the room, so the door was just left slightly ajar. Also as the masseuse was also the spa receptionist she often left the massage to go and answer queries at reception. My advice would be to choose a different old town hotel, because although the location was great I felt the amenities were lacking.

This was a booking for my mother-in-law. Originally booked for 2 nights we had to extend her stay by one night due to a flight cancellation caused by an airline strike. I had to make a separate booking for one night and asked the staff to make sure they don't move her into another room. The staff were very courteous and accommodating.

The ro has only a back up window with trash, they have two parties next to my bedroom door they even didn’t tell us, the front desk clerk were rude. The breakfast was terrible and not to mention the cafeteria service

Ideal location just inside the walls of the Old City in Baku. Check in was fast and efficient. I was upgraded to a superior room and the room was excellent. The lobby area is very impressive and very comfortable. The breakfast room/dining area is on the top floor and has great views of the city. Unfortunately the breakfast/dining room is dated and needs modernisation. Breakfast was good, with a good choice of hot and cold food. The most disappointing part of the stay were the staff; nobody was unfriendly or rude but the staff seemed to be unmotivated and bored. I had to ask three times for a new kettle to be brought to my room, for example. I would definitely recommend staying here for the location, comfortable rooms and for the impressive lobby.

The hotel is in a great location, in the Old City of Baku. It is close to everything. I walked everywhere. It is a beautiful property, nicely decorated and well preserved. Breakfast is in a restaurant on the 4th floor of the same building. It had many options for both vegetarians and not.
The management needs to improve: usually I would observe a line waiting at the front desk and three or more employees taking care of just one visitor. Several people complained of a very strong chemical smell on the 1st and 2nd floors. I smelled it in the atrium but not in my room which was on floor 5. I had a very bad experience checking in. The time to check-in is 3pm. When I approached the front desk at 3pm, I was told the room wasn't ready. \"We only need 5-10 minutes\", I was told. I came back at 3:30, the room wasn't ready. I was really upset: after a 14 hour flight I was ready for a shower and wanted to rest. I got the key at 3:45 but when I went upstairs, the maid was still cleaning the room. She finally finished after 4PM. This is unacceptable. I would like to go back to Baku, but I am not sure I want to stay in that hotel again.

The hotel's location is excellent, in the center of the old city, full of attractions around, places to eat. The hotel itself is stylish, made in the style of a palace. Turkish bath is not worth much in terms of facilities, and spa services are not particularly attractive.

I never like giving unfavourable reviews, especially for non-chain hotels, but unfortunately Shah Palace is the exception--mostly because it pretends to be something it is not. It is definitely not 4-star service to have a bathroom/shower that is impossible to get working, often doesn't provide hot water, and when it does provide it floods the entire bathroom floor. The place needs some serious maintenance--the handle of the wardrobe falls off when you try to open it, the towel rack comes apart when trying to hang a towel. The breakfast, while providing multiple options, is on the whole of poor quality--tired vegetables, inedible eggs, boiled coffee. The main positive is the staff who are clearly aware of the problems but unable to do anything about them.

The shower needs to be redone! Water runs out of the shower, making the floor very slippery. Rooms with bathtubs need handles installed to make it easier and safer for older guests to get out. Using the shower or bathtub is currently very difficult and dangerous for them. Additionally, the room temperature was extremely hot and needs better control.

Otherwise, it’s a great hotel with excellent staff, a fantastic location, and a wonderful overall experience. Thank you!

What an excellent location, right in the heart of the historic Old town. Spacious, beautiful room with a balcony adorned with young grape plant and the view of the old town and beyond. We were totalling cheated by this property that would not honour our reservation despite Expedia confirming it was a fully paid active reservation. This left us without a place to stay on Grand Prix week and having traveled many thousands of miles. Only after working us up and my wife being in tears did they say that had a room for us, but a three times the price. It was not what we originally paid for either. The WC smelled, the TV was not even connected, the bed was hard as rocks and the view was of a wall. We feel totally cheated. All Expedia did for us was issue a refund so they could quickly say not their problem. Do not trust this hotel.

Good Location and thats it…

Right…. The only best things about this hotel is the location and the view from lobby. Rooms furniture is quite old, no charging points for phone, room service is really poor and the people at reception are not really helpful. The shower soap and shampoo provided in bathroom smells pathetic. The overall quality of hotel is not good enough for me to say i will stay there again, the location is the only plus point and nothing else much.

Manager of the hotel is rude, inconsiderate… when I first arrived at the hotel, I was told I could use the SPA before my late flight. THEN they said I couldn’t and that I never spoke to anyone about it…. Then he basically shamed me in-front of the whole staff which was unprofessional

What an excellent hotel! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, wonderful location right inside the city gates to the Old City, only steps from wonderful restaurants and shopping. There are amazing sights just blocks from the hotel as well like the Maiden Tower. Stay here if you can!

The dreaded room 504

I arrived at the hotel a few hours before the standard check in time. I mentioned my gold membership with hotels.com, and that it had sent me a message saying subject to availability I was eligible for an early check-in. The check-in clerk refused to even determine if there was anything available.

When I mentioned my gold status and that hotels.com sent me a message advising of a potential early check-in, the clerk abruptly responded by saying \"That's not my problem\".

Upon returning to the hotel at the appointed time, the clerk pettily assigned me to the dreaded 5th floor of the hotel, which was actually in an annex of the hotel and required ttrekking up two long flights of stairs as that floor was not served by an elevator. Worse, I was assigned to a room (504) that faced a parking lot with garbage collection and other neighborhood noises early in the morning. I couldn't get a decent night's sleep the entire visit I was there.

The included breakfast was good. Not certainly as good as many other places, but good. The hotel is centrally located in the old city which made logistics very easy.

If I hadn't had to encounter such an appallingly rude staff member, I probably would have had a better and more enjoyable stay in Baku.

Great location in a historic building

Shah Palace benefits from a perfect location inside the wall of the Old city. The building itself is quite impressive, with a beautiful central atrium. The room was spacious and fairly well equipped, the bed is very comfortable. The decoration is as seen on the pictures.
Breakfast buffet is quite extensive but quite basic, quality is mediocre to my taste.
The personnel is kind and tries hard to be very helpful. They have organised restaurant bookings for me ahead of arrival for instance, and helped to reconfirm a flight. But at times, they seem a bit unsure about what needs to be done.
All in, a very good experience

There were issues at check-in as they weren't looking at the right place for my booking. I had to make calls and take roaming charges and eventually the manager could locate. They did allow me early check-in which was great.
Front desk staff were amazing and friendly. The hotel is ancient style like the name suggests, but equally very beautiful.
Room was nice, clean and spacious. Even food at the hotel was nice despite limited choices.
The washroom layout could be better certainly and the water pressure too. Perhaps the washrooms need upgrading now.
Location was brilliant, right inside old town and walking distance to everything. Overall, I would highly recommend staying with them.

Spacious rooms but needs updating. Style is very traditional but could do with an added modern twist - big throws and heavy curtains are overwhelming. Shower needs updating. Beautiful lobby that is not used and in the dark! Would make a wonderful place for drinks.

The hotel is very well situated in the old city, surrounded by restaurants, music around in the evening, Bazzar and the view is beautiful. Two negative things, ask not to be in the 5 th floor, internet is not always working and there is no elevator to the 5th floor while there is an elevator up to the fourth floor. The restaurant is a pain to find or to go to if you are on the 5 th floor. You need to take the stairs up to the 3 floor, then take the elevator to the 4 th floor. I would not recommend the 5th floor for elderly people. A good thing, there are tv channels for the news in English and French. Baku is a lovely city. I loved the country. Enjoy it!

The hotel is in a great location and close walking distance to the old town (Nizami Street). The staff were friendly and always happy to help. There were only two (2) main issues which we felt impacted our stay. The first issue was with room cleanliness as during our 5 day/4 night stay, they never changed sheets or ever vacuumed the floor. Also, the room was very warm despite turning heater off with no AC option to stabilize, which we had to resolve by keeping our room windows open.

Overall, it’s not a bad place to stay at, but the above needs to be taken into consideration.

I wanted to go to the fitness room earlier than 8:00 am when it opens. They refused to allow me to workout earlier than 8:00. Being on a tour one has to be on the road at 9:00. How difficult would it have been to open up the fitness center so I could work out on the bike or elipitical? Not very accommodating to guests. This property is out in a remote area so not many choices for hotels.

After returning from a fabulous tour in the mountains, gone for the day, the room was a mess and one of the coffee or teas were replenished. I reported this to the front desk. They listened but never sent someone to rectify the situation.

Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Staff!

The Hotel is very nice, the rooms are comfortable and the staff are courteous and willing to help. They arranged my transfer both to and from the Airport, and advised me of places to visit. The location of the Shah Palace is perfect. Right in the middle of the Old Town but still close enough to walk to the shops at Fountain Square if that's what you want. The choice of local food restaurants nearby is vast.
