Hotel check in was quick and I was able to enter my room before the alloted time which was great after an early morning flight. The atmosphere felt warm and inviting, the staff treated you like royalty as well. I experienced minor issues with my room but it was addressed immediately. I arrived as a stranger but left as though they were my family. The owner, Lise was very friendly and engaged with guests everyday. They also recommended various spots to visit as well payments were very convenient as they arranged tours around the island. I met some wonderful people at the hotel, the best part is the hotel has 7 rooms which means you get personalized attention. Tamara makes the best breakfast and Omar is the best tour guide, I would definitely be back and I give 5/5 stars!
Did I mention the view is amazing!

The view of this hotel is speechless. Amazing sunset view by the pool.

I stayed for diner. They have a nice grilled tuna steak. Cocktail are good too. Thanls for the attention, your smile and the conversation!

Overall, the hotel was lovely. Incredible view. Friendly staff. The food was amazing. Rooms were clean. Pool area was very nice.

However, this place had many children - families from Europe. Most used the pool during the day and were extremely loud. And then during the evening dining experience, since it wasn't a large place, the children were loud during dinner. The loudness became a theme of the stay. For a solo traveler, this was a bit annoying. If you aren't going to be around during the day and have your own transportation, this place is great.

I did walk down to a local restaurant and to the beach - it was super quiet. The walk back up the hill is steep but not that bad.

Quiet and comfortable atmosphere. Great view of the sea and mountains. Tamara (staff) was incredibly warm, helpful and welcoming. She ensured I had everything that I needed. The room was huge, clean and cozy and well maintained. I appreciated the peaceful surroundings.

Hotel Champs is an excellent choice for travelers seeking an affordable, quiet stay. I highly recommend it!

A small but lovely hotel in the hills above Portsmouth, with a commanding view of Prince Rupert Bay. The rooms are large, breakfast is fantastic and the staff and owners are incredibly friendly and helpful! Portsmouth is a great place to stay, with restaurants, whale watching, a couple of wine sand beaches to stay, and good beach bars in which to wile the days away. Highly recommend The Champs.

We loved the location and views over the sea.
The owners and their staff were all wonderful. So friendly and kind. It felt like chatting friends.
We ate there every evening as every meal we had was excellent and very delicious.
Breakfasts everyday were very good with a nice choice of eggs.
The pool is small but perfectly adequate for a swim and cool down. The decking area and sunloungers around the pool were lovely. I had a nice day flopping there. The pool water was quite cold though.
We would look to staying here again, should we return to Dominica as we enjoyed it so much

Nice quaint hotel. The staff were the best, they were friendly, helpful and make our stay better. The hotel was clean and the view is beautiful. Some of the linen and towels can use some updating. Nice new faucets and sinks in the bathroom but the shower didn’t drain well and the ceiling had a leak in our bathroom. There is a mini fridge and filters water was always available. There was also a kettle and tea bags provided. New television with a lot of available tv stations. The Wi-Fi sucked, and was constantly dropping. It worked well for one day only but the connection dropped frequently. The hotel has a restaurant and the food was really good. The food was Americana and no local food but most days local juices were freshly made. Breakfast was provided daily, the omelettes were great! The hotel has a nice pool however sometimes it may not be available because at times it is rented out for parties. Overall it was good!

What a place! This small property only has 5 rooms, all with hammocks and balcony space overlooking the sea. Wifi and A/C worked great throughout my stay (though I didn't need to use the a/c very often). Delicious free breakfast and other meals available on request, with menus changed daily based on culinary inclinations of chefs. Special shout out to Tammy and Sabrina for the tender loving care infused in all their delicious meals! Picard beach and several eating options are about a 15 minute walk, though note, the property is high up a steep hill, so not recommended for walking if you're not particularly in shape nor if lugging heavy luggage. Overall, a fantastic stay.

I enjoyed my stay at The Champs, particularly from Room 2 with amazing views of the sea, town and beautiful sunsets. The staff were incredible, always checking up on you. Hosts, particularly Lise, were very friendly and helpful in proposing island tours, reserving taxis etc. It felt very homely and comfortable. The cuisine was more western but local fish available and the hearty cooked breakfast was enough to keep me going all day, as was their delicious pizzas. As others have noted, hotel is situated at the top of a very steep hill - walk up and down once is sufficient. Local taxis are very cheap are as local mini buses (one kind driver brought me uphill to The Champs). This side of the island has more black sand volcanic beaches which I didn't like very much so would go to the other side next time for the beautiful white sands. Fort Shirley is worth exploring and stop at the Purple Turtle Beach Club for amazing views by the sea. There is also an indigenous region worth visiting and Dominica has 365 rivers and endless waterfalls to explore. I loved my short visit and hope to return, perhaps take the ferry to Guadeloupe.

Breakfast and meal offerings are scrumptious; don't miss out of these! Property is a few minutes away from convenience stores, food establishments, and wonderful beaches (Coconut and Mero Beaches). Look no further in Portsmouth!

Everything about my stay at Champs was top-notch. Big, comfy bed and a spacious bathroom made for a great room, and the pool hits the spot after a long, hot day of sightseeing. Also, the view from the restaurant has to be the best in town.

Speaking of, the meals were outstanding! Temara, Sabrina, and Tarnita spread the shifts out during the day and all will leave you full and satisfied at meal time. All three are also very helpful with advice, directions, or a friendly chat. Tarnita can whip up tasty, creative cocktails as well.

Owner Liz had great communication and will be quick to share a digital guidebook with practical advice and sightseeing tips. She also likes to settle into a fun conversation and is happy to help with plans in person too. She organized airport and onward transportation for me as well, which was clutch with a late flight and moving south on a Sunday when most things are closed and buses don't run.

If I'm back in the region, there will only be one place I'll stay!

The view from our room was breathtaking. The food in the restaurant was outstanding. The staff was the best, so warm and welcoming, and the owners went above and beyond to make our stay a wonderful experience. Liese booked tours for us and taxis and gave us the best advice about what to do in this part of Dominica. The hike in the National Park and tour of Free Up Farm was so good. She also helped arrange transport to the airport for us. The chef made a special playlist for our last night at the restaurant and we loved it. I cannot say enough good about this wonderful small hotel. Stay here if you are on Dominica.

A small hotel with the most amazing personal service. Lise and the staff at Champs went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. From the first morning of our stay Lise took the time to find out what we wanted to do and then came up with suggestions and sorted out arrangements for walks, tours and different ways to explore right across the island.
The view across the bay from the restaurant and from the rooms is spectacular. And the Champs is known in the town for the quality of the food at the restaurant so we ended up eating in the hotel on a number of evenings. Thoroughly recommend Portsmouth as a quieter alternative to Roseau when looking for a base to discover this beautiful island.

Although we only spent one night at Les Champs, we totally enjoyed our stay. The room is spacious and comfortable, the pool is superb, the food is excellent and the staff are very helpful. Lise is a fantastic and lovely person. We had forgotten our chocolate bars from the Pointe Baptiste chocolate factory in the room fridge and Lise brought them back to our hotel in Roseau the next day.

Stayed for 3 nights and was well looked after all the time I was there. The hotel itself is a bit out the way and up a steep hill, however, the owners provided you with a free phone so you could call up and they would come and pick you up if you were in need of a lift.

The evening meals varied from night to night and whilst choices were limited all the dishes sampled were very good quality.

This is a great place with a wonderful “million dollar” view. The staff is attentive and responsive to your request and the food is exceptional. My mother and I stayed for a week in December this year and we had a lovely stay. The hotel is located just on the edge of Portsmouth and at the top of a hill which is a good hike if you don’t have a car but does mean have a wonderful view over the harbour in Portsmouth. The rooms are large and very comfortable. We were most impressed with the service of the all the staff and the owners. In particular Lise who went out her way to help us arrange trips and talk to us daily about what excursions we might want to do. Since we were the only guests for half the time the service staff were also extremely attentive making meals to accommodate our specific tastes. We were also invited to join sunset yog on the deck which was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend staying here and you will feel extremely looked after my Lise and her staff ....so much so you will feel part of the family!

-amazing personalized service - Lise was spectacular as she gave every guest personalized ideas on trips they should take, how to get there etc. Gave us wonderful recommendations and really looked out for each and every one of our needs.
-Antoinette - gosh her food was delicious. Every meal was fresh and felt it was homecooked. She kept in mind our dietary restrictions.
-they also dropped us off to a bus stop, gave us a free cellphone, got us aloe etc. Like I said a very personalized service.

This was my first visit to the island of Dominica. I didn't know anything about the hotel I booked. After spending a week at the hotel I am happy to give the hotel and it's staff an excellent rating. Everyone at the hotel made us feel not just welcome, but a part of the family. I left feeling as though I was leaving good friends behind. Friends that I hope to be back to see again soon. I had a great time at The Champs - gracious and accommodating hosts Lise and Hans made sure all of my needs were met, including local transportation, as well as to and from the airport. I went to Dominica for the Jazz Festival, and became one of their \"posse\" for the main event. All of this while they continue to restore The Champs from the damage incurred from Hurricane Maria last year. Simple but delicious breakfasts and dinners. A small, boutique-type hotel, everyone staying quickly becomes one of the group - especially enjoyable for one travelling alone, but not forced togetherness by any stretch of the imagination. Lovely pool to come back to after a day of wandering about in Roseau (hot work), and the hotel's perch up the hill afforded fabulous views of the area and unforgettable sunsets over the Caribbean.

Couldn't have asked for a better stay!

Of course the accommodations are not equivalent to US 5 star, but in comparison to the area, you could not ask for more. The atmosphere and hospitality was phenomenal. From the moment we were picked up at the airport, we were made to feel like family. The driver, Malcolm, entertained us the entire ride by telling us all about the island. We were greeted at the door by name, given a tour of the hotel while being escorted to our room which was sufficiently comfortable. The view was magnificent. The owners were personally available at any time for any reason from the complimentary shuttle rides to friendly conversations. We ate at as many restaurants and cafes as we had time for, but The Champs restaurant was by far the best. While we were there, they were in the process of installing a swimming pool and updating the rooms. Even more to make this place the best choice. We will choose this place for our next stay on the island.

Was there to do a wedding. Hotel was ok. They dont serve lunch which was not good for us especially the time of year. The community seems to thrive on Ross University there and when they are not open (due to christmas break) everything seems to shut down and so are the restaurants since the students sustain it. So it was an inconvenience for us. The owner Lise is very nice, so are the staff. I guess if you travel any other time when school is in session you should be ok. Oh and hotel gives u a local cell phone while staying there.....it helps.

Great Hotel Overlooking Picard/Portsmouth

While in the middle of our honeymoon to Dominica, we decided to change the location of our final four nights from a very remote location, to somewhere near Portsmouth. The Classique was the highest rated hotel we could find, and it definitely did not disappoint. Though small, the Classique feels like it offers all of the amenities offered by larger hotel chains, including a shuttle service to transport guests up the large hill from the main road. Conveniently located close to both Picard and Portsmouth, as well as hosting many themed night parties, the Classique is a must-stay if travelling to Portsmouth.

Amazing staff, great location

We stayed here to watch the cricket since we couldn't get accommodation in Roseau and in hindsight, I'm glad we couldn't.

The staff (Lise, Hans and co.) are by far the most helpful staff you'll ever encounter anywhere. It's like Lise and Hans would rather be doing nothing else with their life than helping you have an amazing time on the island.

They dropped out to the bus station and taught us how to catch a bus in the Caribbean (there's no regulated public transport but it's very easy and safe once someone teaches you how to do it). When the airline lost my luggage, I literally did nothing - Lise and Hans took care of it and it was back within 2 days with zero effort required on our behalf.

There is good snorkelling nearby and The Champs provided us with gear and directions. They also dropped us off at hiking spots and the Indian River is nearby too. They organised our day-trip to Boiling Lake and our transfers to and from the airport.

The restaurant is nice and the surrounding suburbs are very safe and authentic. Everything is fairly priced.
