Best of our trip! You recover cows-need I say more! Breakfast and dinner was loaded with tons of options ( vegetarian too)high quality, locally sourced and homemade dishes. We rented a cabin type room. The only down side was that there wasn’t tv. Loved exploring Mývatn nature and going to the baths too. The staff and animals made this place really special

Lovely rooms across from the farm, spacious, cozy and very comfortable. Breakfast was typical European offerings, nothing hot, with windows looking onto the cow milking operation and the farm. We arrived to a very beautiful sunset over Lake Myvatn. The hotel is conveniently located close to the lake, Crater and geothermal area. Dinner was good but expensive like most Iceland restaurants!

The rooms were located across the street from the reception and the restaurant. Parking by the rooms was very accessible. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. I had not realized that not only do you have rooms on either side of you but also on the back as well. So it was very noisy, but I had a portable sound machine, which was helpful. Also, the rooms were all in a small area so when people were out at night, it was very noisy.

I Highly recommend eating at the restaurant. We had the best lamb shank and lamb fillet dinner! The staff was extremely friendly, and the dining area was very cozy and comfortable. Also, the included breakfast was excellent.

This was a working dairy farm. It was very interesting to see the cows being milked or feeding in the pasture. The buffet breakfast was the best we had on our 10-day trip around Iceland. They had very many offerings. Since it was a dairy farm, they had fresh cheeses and yogurt. The lodging was in log cabins. The beds were very comfortable. Each cabin had parking.

A unique and memorable farm stay experience

This is a unique property set on a working farm. One of the highlights was being able to see the cows through the dining room window during breakfast and dinner — and even getting the chance to visit and pet them, which was a real treat.

The rooms were cozy and cabin-like, with effective blackout curtains, though it did get quite hot in June without air conditioning. The bathroom was small but the space overall was clean and comfortable.

We enjoyed walking around the property and soaking in the peaceful natural surroundings — though do be prepared for mosquitoes and bugs.

The food was a standout (but expensive): the vegetarian dinner was delicious, and breakfast featured the most amazing fresh bread.

Absolutely wonderful time here. You are basically right in lake Myvatn and the rooms are basically in the lava fields of the area. We got to pet the baby and adult cows and ate breakfast while they were being milked which was amazing. The dinner and the breakfast buffet were both delicious. The room itself was very nice (but very hot) and the bed was good. Everyone who worked here was really lovely.

A gem of a place - they have made so much out of a simple sparse farm area. The staff was absolutely lovely and the restaurant - both dinner and breakfast - was super good, high quality and excellent service. Rooms are simple and clean. Cows are behind a glass wall but you can visit them whenever you want! Perfectly located for Myvatn area visiting.

Avoid if you have food allergies / Kids

This hotel is not very inclusive of people with food allergies or suitable for children.
We stayed at the hotel in June 2024 during a severe weather warning when we were restricted / couldn’t travel anywhere.
Our 7 year old daughter has a dairy and egg allergy. There was no dairy free milk or dairy free butter at breakfast which significantly limited our daughter’s breakfast options. In addition to this there was no sausage or bacon. It was all cheese, yoghurt, cold meats, cereal, none of which a child would eat / could eat.
I mentioned this to the staff and all they could suggest was she eat fruit. There was no offer to try and accommodate her allergies. This was very stressful given the fact we were stranded at this hotel (roads closed due to snow). They didn’t even have a kids menu for lunch/evening.
I think this hotel is more geared to couples, not families and certainly not people who have allergies.
As a result every night, we risked driving 4 minutes up the road in bad weather so my daughter could eat at the restaurant next to another hotel.
In summary I would also advise not staying in Lake Myvatn, but in Akuyeri.
Lake Myvatn is in the middle of nowhere and if you get snow (in June!!!) you will be stranded. Nobody clears the road between Akureyi and Lake Myvatn.

This guesthouse is in prime location but is extremely expensive for the quality. It is maybe 2 star accomodation. A clean room with a comfortable bed- zero amenities in the room, more like a cabin with running water but the cost of a 4 star hotel elsewhere. The restaurant and service were good but I would rather pay slightly more for something nicer. So far my least favorite spot of 6 nights of our trip.

I enjoyed seeing the cows on the property. Both dinner and the breakfast provided was excellent. It was a pity that I did not get to see the Northern Lights while I was here, one of the main reasons I decided to stay at this town but the stay at this hotel ended up being one of the main highlights of this stay.

I enjoyed my trip to Myvatn with a stay at Vogafjos Guesthouse.The restaurant served an excellent hamburger. The facilities were nice. My only complaint is that the shower was somewhat small and the bath gel was empty which I didn't find out until my shower was underway. There weren't many people in the cabins, but all of the guests were placed in adjoining rooms, so I would have preferred a little more isolation.

Nice accommodations, Guesthouse is like a beautiful rustic wood cabin on inside. We liked our room very much. Room was very quiet and peaceful.
Restaurant is a short walk across road (not a busy road). Restaurant has has a nice menu, good food. Adjacent cow barn and milking room can be viewed through window of restaurant. Very interesting to watch which is encouraged by staff. Staff is cross-trained to do all restaurant/guesthouse/farm functions and is most informative and friendly. They all are English fluent and likely speak other languages too other than Icelandic which is common throughout Iceland. This was our favorite place to stay of all the properties we stayed at around the island including top tier hotel chains and a few similar places. Highly recommend Vogafoss Guesthouse and its restaurant. Would be good for couples and families with children. (Can pet friendly cows in cow barn).

Wonderful. I stayed at Fosshotels the entire trip and I enjoyed this place the most. You are at a real farm (and can see the cows being milked).

Americans: bring bar soap for all hotels unless you like foam or cream soap with your hands.

All countries: the walls here are a tad thin so keep the (ahem snuggle) activities a tad quieter or for old guys like me, don’t slam the bathroom door for that 3 am bathroom visit.

Lovely area. Truly lovely.

Breakfast: traditional European—6 breads, 10 cheese and meats, yogurt w every mix in but the “pour” type of yogurt. Sourced locally.

The bed was very comfortable, shower was nice, room was clean, breakfast was so delicious.

The restaurant was amazing. Everything was tasty, view was stunning . And fun to see the farm cows too.

The only small problem we had was to find our room. The front lady explained to us, but still took little while to find our room. If there are some signage in front of the building and on the street, it would be helpful. But we figured out.

We truly enjoyed our (2) night stay at Vogafjos Guesthouse! Dinner is a most as we both enjoyed the burger and Arctic char! Breakfast is included and we advise trying their fresh squeezed milk from their own cows (which can be seen while eating your meals through a glass window on site). The log cabins are simple but they are comfortable, warm and picturesque. The staff was also really hospitable and great to interact with.

We had a very large room with 4 beds for 2 people. The water temperature, water pressure, and space in the shower was amazing. The room was beautiful and recently updated. We ate at the restaurant and the food was amazing and fresh. I recommend making reservations.

Breakfast had a decent amount of options. The ONLY thing that I would recommend is that they start breakfast earlier. 8 am is a late start for people who have hiking plans or long driving plans. Not to mention, the parking lot was full of most of the guests waiting for it to open.

Watch out for pesky and annoying swarming flies!

The facility was very clean. There is a top notch restaurant on site that offers both dinner and breakfast. Of course the breakfast was included with many choices and that was very nice!
When coming to MyVatn, make sure you have a head-net to protect your face from the millions of pesky and extremely annoying little flies! You will be very glad you did.

The best thing about this guesthouse is the cows!! We loved being able to say hello to the calves next to the restaurant/reception. The rooms felt a bit dated, but were still comfortable and clean. We LOVED the breakfast (included) and dinner was pretty great too! The view from the restaurant is just lovely. We also found that this location was really close to a lot of great stops near Myvatn.

One of our favorite stays in all 16 days of Iceland. The cottage was easy to find and just off the main road around the lake. Check in was at the main farm house, gorgeous inside. We even stayed at the hotel to eat and watching cows being milked through big windows. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The room was a great size too. Easy parking outside rooms.

What a wonderful experience. Check in was smooth and easy. We were upgraded to one of the triple rooms which was a clean and spacious triple room with logs on the walls and ceiling. We ate at the hotel’s farm-to-table restaurant and had the Icelandic lamb shank (from the farm) and Atlantic char - both delicious. In the morning, we visited the sheep and cows in the barn as they were eating and watched the farm workers - yes, this is a working farm! The buffet breakfast included geysir bread, a variety of cheeses and sliced meats, yogurt, fruits (including grapes, kiwi, oranges) - all delicious. The hotel staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and happy to tell you about life in this beautiful and peaceful area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!

This was a great guesthouse! We stayed here for two nights with our toddlers. The cabin was clean and spacious. We loved the farm aspect. We went right into the cow barn and watched the cows being milked in the milking room. The staff brought the kids fresh milk and then we ate dinner next to the milking window. The food was DELICIOUS. So fresh and wonderful. Breakfast every morning was also fresh and delicious. Great location and would highly recommend.

An interesting farm ‘resort’, next to the lake, with a working dairy and plenty of sheep. Service staff were excellent, the breakfast nice but no hot food. Our main issue was with the small room (no space for clothes or luggage storage) and the penetrating Sulphur odour in the room (from the water supply) which was a bit much.
