It was my second time spending a weekend here. And it will definitely not be my last beautiful property. Wonderful staff. Excellent food. Quiet comfortable . Bedrooms are clean, well equipped redone bathrooms .espresso machine in the room. Beautiful balcony view of the lake. The hot tub and saunas with the cold plunge were perfect and nice and clean.

We just got back from an unforgettable stay at Windermere House in Muskoka, and I honestly can’t say enough good things.

My wife and I had just gotten married and were looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway—and this place delivered beyond expectations. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff made us feel incredibly special. To our surprise, they treated us to a bottle of prosecco to celebrate, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch that really set the tone for our stay.

A huge thank you to Mathew and Heather, who went above and beyond with their kindness and professionalism in the pub. You can tell they genuinely care about the guest experience. Also, a shoutout to the evening restaurant manager at the pub—top-tier service. The food was absolutely to die for. Every meal felt like a highlight.

The amenities were just as impressive. The hot tub and barrel saunas were perfect for unwinding and soaking in the peaceful Muskoka atmosphere. Everything felt clean, well-maintained, and designed for pure relaxation.

If you’re looking for a place that combines beautiful scenery, amazing food, and truly exceptional service, Windermere House is it. We’ll definitely be back.

Breakfast was fantastic, staffs were amazing, our friends enjoyed hot tub and sauna. Everything was good except for the dust. As a person with dust allergy, the hallway and rooms are horrible. My sinus flared up and got sick. Also there’s no other restaurant nearby so you need to dine in the hotel.

The room was lovely & well appointed.
Front desk staff were courteous.
Wait staff in the pub is not experienced as the usual diners are contractors who are working on site. They would start a new conversation with us while walking towards us, at a 10’ distance. Experience & confidence will help.
Pool Contractors were loud and used foul language within all conversations, unaware of anyone else at the pub.
Breakfast was not what I expected, as cheese ham omelette was processed cheese slice & sandwich ham. Fresh fruit was good, orange juice was not available.
Outdoor pool is under construction (ergo contractors). And, it’s April in Canada.

We were very happy with everything about the room and the hotel area. The breakfast was amazing and had a lot of variety. The outdoor hot tub was lovely. The only minus was with the saunas, which were not hot enough. That's probably because the sensor was too high in the sauna, and the heating elements were partly exposed (not enough stones on the heater).

Our room was overlooking the lake and we were met by no less than 20 deer on the front lawn after we checked in.
The pub fare was excellent, and the room was immaculate.
We didn't take advantage of any of the spa activities, but we enjoyed two days of relaxing bliss.
Lovely property with a lot of nostalgic charm.
We spent one full day hiking at Arrowhead Provincial Park which was a short drive away.

After stumbling across Windermere while searching \"last minute hotel deals\" on New years Day 2026, we jumped on the much needed opportunity to sneak away for the night.

And....we booked again 3 months later ❤️

Both times we booked the standard garden view King rooms and both times we were upgraded to Lakeview room 322 with balcony. I don't know why, but we are so grateful as the view is stunning. We watched snow falling over the lake, ice fisherman hauling in their catch, deer grazing on the Hotel property and surroundings, the gas fireplace with Muskoka chairs, and the hot tub/pool/sauna area.

The room is spacious, clean and equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Beds and pillows were perfect for us. Bathroom was a standard bathroom. It has a jetted tub, but the jets didn't work...no biggie as we spent much of our time in the hot tub to soak our tired bones.

Tv, mini fridge, bottle water and Nespresso coffee machine were also included.

Staff are pleasant, welcoming and very attentive from the welcome desk, property maintenance, food service and house keeping.

Restaurants: we only ate at the breakfast buffet which was so nicely done. Many hot and cold choices from bacon, eggs, home fries to smoked salmon, chia pudding, fresh fruit, variety of breads, bagels, etc. Hot coffee and juices. The display was so nicely laid out.

While using the hot tub, we were greeted by a herd of 9 deer who meandered around the property for a few hours.

To us this was a hidden gem. It is far from everything but that makes it really nice and cozy. We went in winter and enjoyed the hot outside pool with snow in the surrounding area. If you come from Toronto area please expect winter conditions to last longer in the hotel area. Excellent food in the pub at night, staff couldn't be more pleasant helpful and polite. Even the fitness centre was very nice.

We went in the winter, so activities were very limited, but we enjoyed a relaxing stay. The saunas, hot tub and breakfast were really great. We saw many deer roaming The property. Our room was beautiful and The view of the snowy lake was gorgeous. The pub downstairs was quaint and the food was pretty good. The included breakfast was really delicious and had a great selection. A bit of a drive, but we hiked at Huckleberry lookout and Hardy lake.

Oof. We just got back from a weekend getaway for my birthday and this left quite a bit desired.

Cons (Windermere, if you’re reading this, please, address this!):
- there was an extremely obnoxious “wellness” retreat at the property. They monopolized every amenity onsite (of which there weren’t many…) leaving no options for any other guests. After some web sleuthing, I would highly suggested googling Niki Jean retreats and ensure they are NOT holding an event as it absolute ruined our stay
- we came for (and paid the high resort fees for) the outdoors spa features advertised. The hot tub was out of commission (open for one hour at which time the retreat was monopolizing). There are 3 saunas which were constantly in use, mostly by this annoying group. I would suggest that the resort have a booking system in place and let people reserve for an hour or so (more if not in use) because any time we wanted to go it was filled with this same group. The cold plunge pool was the only thing open. PERFECT for winter.
- we paid a pretty penny to sit in our room in our robes the entire weekend. Fantastic bang for our buck — not. We honestly may as well have stayed at a Motel 6. It was so disappointing
- advertised things like beverages and such during the day were never anywhere to be found
- breakfast was ok but hot items were not hot

Pros: comp champagne, and nicely appointed room. We spent the entire time in it!!!

I will NOT go back. This ruined my birthday weekend completely :(

Lovely place, we had such a great time staying here. The amenities were awesome we loved the barrel saunas outside and the hot tub. The food at breakfast and the pub were incredible, wish we stayed when the restaurant was open and operating but we will be back soon, already talking about coming back in the summer to experience the place in the warmer weather.

Great breakfast buffet style. The property is a hidden gem. We went off season in November for a quick reset and relax. The sauna barrels are lovely has lake view. And the hottub is popular during the night. They have the pool open for cold plunges as well. Friendly staff and rooms were clean. Bathrobes were nice to have. This is my second time here and I plan to make it an annual visit.

The light lager? 4 Fathers beer was a nice touch, too.

We arrived early, almost 2 hours before check-in but were welcomed and provided our rooms right away. We received excellent service at the spa. We were late checking out due to enjoying time at the spa. We notified that we would be late checking out and there was no problem. I will definitely return to the Windermere House!

The place is wonderful, I couldn’t ask for a better hotel, quite, romantic, great outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi, outdoor sauna, fire pit, mini cozy beach. I was celebrating my anniversary, they were nice to decorate the room and offered me a free wine, that was so nice of them.

But what’s worth mentioning is whatever you do don’t book your trip through a third party and make sure to avoid room 314, book directly with them. They have their room reserved for anyone who book through Expedia or booking, and that’s what I got, although I paid extra I was disappointed by the room I got, it was the only room with a single window, low natural light and a bit dark, I ended up paying only half of the price.

This is a beautiful resort, with the perfect view. We loved the pool, hottub and saunas. The complimentary breakfast was amazing. This resort is about a 30-mins drive from Huntsville, where the closests restaurants and shops were. So you need to plan ahead. The rooms at the resort were old, bathroom was very small and very thin walls between each room.
I was annoyed they allowed dogs which prevented us from being able to sleep due to barking. The resort was full, and there were people that were not staying at the resort to eat at the restaurant, so parking was an issue and we couldn't get a reservation in the restaurant for their Thanksgiving dinner.

A beautiful location at a classic luxurious resort on Muskokas lake Rosseau. The fall colours were at their peak and the resort was a good location to tour from. 2 working EV chargers, 2 more getting ready. There were a few signs of problems, with sewage smell, painting off the wall on 3rd floor, Spa closed. The quality of the food was very disappointing and overall we were disappointed in the overall experience for the high price paid for our stay.

We stayed at Windermere House in October. The property and surroundings are beautiful, with obvious attention to guest comfort and convenience. We were treated wonderfully by all staff we encountered. Had we stayed longer than two nights, we would have used more of the many recreational and comfort facilities available. As it was, we enjoyed great meals at the restaurant (best apple cheesecake I've ever had) and pub, a lovely paddle on the water, swims in the pool, sauna, and my wife had a massage at the spa. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable with superb views of the lake. There was moderate sound transfer between our room and the adjacent room, which is connected by a door between them. Our neighbors were not loud nor annoying so no issue for us during our stay.
We would certainly plan another stay at WH if visiting that part of Ontario again. Loved it.

Wow, just wow! What a wonderful and special place Windermere House is, located in a stunningly beautiful part of Canada.

Our lake view balcony room was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable with a view that you could never ever tire of seeing.

All the staff were extremely friendly and the service we received was exceptional.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, the buffet breakfast was superb and we ate each evening in the Windermere Pub, again the service and quality of food were wonderful.

We feel extremely lucky to have stayed at this very fabulous hotel.
