Anyone Home

Couldn't find the office to book in and no one in the complex at all. Address was right, but the lights were out. Stayed at another location that cost more than plan that night. Had a looked at this place in the daylight while moving on. It was the same in the daylight as it was at night and looked closed. Have photos, but no time to post them.

So perfect! The rooms are cozy and the new beds are heaven to sleep on. I loved all of the history! We were given great information for activities and food in the surrounding area. Mix it all together with beautiful weather and I really didn’t want to leave! The table area was our only challenge as it’s really tight to get in and out of as a grown adult but it wouldn’t be a deterrent since there is a beautiful pavilion that you can eat at outside.

Great Historic Motel on the Morher Road

The night we were supposed to check in we were running late which meant we wouldn’t get there until after office hours. I called the motel and talked to Rich who was very accommodating. When we arrived at 11:30pm he was there and got us checked in. He was a great host. Made us feel like we were actual guests at someone’s home. The motel was really cute. It was like stepping back in time. I studied hotel/restaurant management so it was really fun staying in the first motel built on Route 66 in Williams and knowing the history of motels. Since it’s also a historic building it’s being kept as authentic as it can be. The beds were really comfy too. Better then some hotels I’ve stayed at. The room was really clean and it was nice having a fridge and microwave I would highly recommend staying here if you want to have a Route 66 experience. Additionally, if you book a motel, especially a historic motel, do not expect to have the luxuries of a hotel like an ice machine or room service. That’s what keeps motels like this quant.

Grand Motel

The day we got there for check in nobody was there. I had to call the motel and then he shows up late. During the check in process he spoke very harshly to an elderly couple who decided not to stay there. We decided to check in to the hotel next door as well, which was great. My wife called to cancel the reservation through Expedia and the representative got a hold of him and he was rude to her as well, before he hung up on her he stated we would still be charged. She attempted a second phone call and the same thing. So sad that hospitality and manners are not on this motels list. Please, please do not stay at this place. We travel to Williams AZ frequently and have never experienced anything like this. And to be fair because we didn't stay there I can't say anything about room cleanliness and room comfort
on the survey that's why it's marked ok.

Okay place for one night stay

This hotel has been around since 1936 and the rooms are tiny. It’s a room better suited for a one nighter and we stayed three. The tiny bathroom didn’t have any electrical outlet, requiring a lot of creativity for styling your hair. Luckily I carry a power strip with me as the outlets in the room aren’t easy to reach. Other than the bed the only other furniture was a small table that held the lamp. The owner of the hotel offered many helpful tips for places to visit and eat in the area.

Find somewhere else to stay.

one of the light fixtures broke while we were there, the heater didn't work all that great and it took more than 3 hours for the room to warm up...but without the blankets we brought for our road trip, we would have froze! Place is small, falling apart and not very nice at all. Sign said new beds...but there is no way our beds were new...they were so uncomfortable. The towels were not white - barely even an off white - almost looked dirty. Parking is poor, rooms are small and ours smelled of must/dirt. The owner did say they were remodeling...at the same time telling us we were given one of the rooms not remodeled...even though we saw NOT one other person there he said they were full????

Give yourself a taste of history.

You are stepping back in history here. Depression era tiny rooms including a garage! We found it very interesting imagining the Okies who passed thru w all their belongings packed into a jalopy. Some Depression era pictures on the wall would be good.

Misleading pictures of hotel

The Expedia listing erroneously (?) shows the hotel next door (The Lodge), which has a nice log cabin look. The Grand Motel is not nearly as nice looking on the outside, which was disappointing. Don't make the mistake we made by trying to check into The Lodge, based on the Expedia pictures.

The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. There is no place to put bathroom items in the bathroom, and the heating/AC unit did not seem to turn off until the temperature was very different than the setting on the thermostat.

It was rated 2 stars, but I would only give it 1 star. It was very old, the room was very plain, but it did have a refrigerator and a good tv. We have stayed in several 2 stars before, and they were much nicer than this. The host was very helpful, though, so I'd give him 2 stars.

Quaint very old motel, beautifully renovated.

Basic accommodation but spotlessly clean and very comfortable, and very inexpensive. Host Rich is very attentive and does an excellent job of making sure you are comfortable - but don't take his advice on where to eat. The restaurant he recommended was expensive and terrible, and didn't honour the discount voucher he gave us.

Give It A Chance. Historical Building.

This building was the first ever hotel in Williams. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and has a plaque on the outside wall. It has a great story that's part of the town's history, so if you're looking for something experiential, you will definitely get that here. The owner is very personable and knows a lot about the town, the building, and the area. The hospitality is exceptional. The building is very old and may not have as many modern amenities or feel as a newer franchise, but they are in the process of making more improvements, and I found this hotel had a more local feel compared to the big chains that maybe can't keep up with their housekeeping like they should. The rooms are small, but that's part of its history. However, they are VERY clean and they're not all on top of each other, so the rooms are very quiet. Not even noise from the street. The bed was very comfortable and we slept good and hard. The bathroom is clean. I've stayed in more expensive hotels that weren't as clean. No mystery stains on the towels or linens. No unpleasant smells. No dust or dirt. Hardwood floors take the mystery out of carpet. I walked around barefoot and my feet stayed clean. Nice little patio in front of each room with chairs. Bedside charging outlets. LCD TV. Micro & Fridge. Beautiful lilac, snapdragon, & blue spruce flowerbeds. Minutes walk from shops & restaurants.

Cute, comfortable, clean.

This is a historical motel in a historical town. The rooms are dated (as is expected for a historical motel), but they have new mattresses, clean wood floors, and a clean bathroom. Everything is walking distance in the cute town with food, shops, and entertainment. Best of all- the owner is super friendly and helpful. If you're visiting Flagstaff or Grand Canyon, this is a comfortable and affordable place to stay. Definitely recommend.

A bit of History

A very fun hotel to stay in. It is a historical hotel in Williams, built in the 1930's. Clean, simple and enjoyable. The rooms still use a key to open, not a card, and the clerk walks you to your room instead of just telling what number you are in. Friendly staff with knowledge of the surrounding area. STAYING HERE FROM NOW ON

We love this place! The beds are new and very comfortable! (This is not the case at any of the other places we've stayed at in Williams). Very clean rooms. Friendly, homey atmosphere. One of our favorite parts was the private patio with table and chairs in front of each room. The owners are fabulous. Very helpful with lots of info on area attractions, restaurants, and history.

It's right on Route 66- walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and the nightly gunfight shows. Only a 5-10 minute drive to Bearizona, the Grand Canyon Deer Farm, and the Grand Canyon Railway.

This was the first motel in Williams and the new owners are doing a great job bringing it back to its glory days.

Not your average \"Motel\"

I had high hopes but low expectations from this 1937 \"vintage\" motel. After reading previous reviews I decided to give it a try.

My kids and I were pleasantly surprised - our room was clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was much more than expected from this little place - bagels, muffins, toast, yogurt, coffee, juice and cereal. A giant improvement over the prepackaged sweet roll and apple we had from a competitor down the block on our last visit.

If you are expecting the Hilton, stop elsewhere. If you are ready to step back in time, have a good nights sleep and a good breakfast then this is your place!

Thanks Rich for making our stay in Williams AZ on Route 66 a memorable visit, also for letting us take two spots with are long bed extended cab Chevy. I'm guessing that in 1930, when the motel was built, vehicles were a bit smaller than our truck. We are looking forward to staying at your Motel again when you finish your renovation paint scheme as it was back in the Route 66 Motels HeyDay. A charming diamond in the rough!

The Grand Motel is a fun experience. It is so different from the normal hotel that you feel both frustrated and enamored at the same time. It is a step back in time. For our family, it was a tight fit and the lack of desk or table space and counter space made things difficult at times, but the cute little kitchenette and layout were very charming. The owner is in the process of restoring the motel to its original glory so things are still in transition, but it will be fantastic when it is done. It was a bit more pricey than we expected for the level of comfort, but most of the places in town seem to be around the same. I recommend this motel to those who want to step back in time and don't mind sacrificing a bit of modern comfort to do so.

This old building suffers from electricity infrastructure problem. My child and wife got an electrical shock, when they were in the bath. We were lucky and they were not injured badly.

I did not like the way hotel owner started to argue with my wife about that accident and I believe that he should take it more politely.

This hotel did not have any other rooms so we ends up looking for another hotel in the middle of the night. Hotel owner were kind enough to look for the other place to stay in the internet for us.

We spent 2 days around Grand Canyon and all this time my child was little crunky. Eventually we took him to an emergency room in Flagstaff to check if there were any hidden damage from the electrical shock. But there were not able to find anything specific. I hope that there was no long term damage caused for my child health in that accident.

I would not risk my life of life of my relatives by staying in that place, until the problem with electrical wiring will be addressed by a professional technician and local authorities will run a proper inspection

Good Route 66 motel.

The room was quite small for the price. But it was clean. Really cramped parking area. I'm glad I drove my Little car. The Owner was very friendly and helpful. It's a great vintage Route 66 Motel. They don't do maid service for multiple nights, had to ask for dry towels.

Comfortable and Cheap

When we arrived we were greeted by the new owner and had to wait a few minutes for him to get the room ready. He was very friendly and knowledgable about not just the Grand Canyon but other recreational areas. The room featured brand new bedding and was very comfortable. TV and rooms were small but not too small - plus you won't be cooped up in the room anyways! Meager breakfast was included - good place to stay on a budget! Williams is a cool place with plenty of shops and restaurants and it's only about 50 minutes driving from the Grand Canyon. The motel is the oldest in Williams. I would recommend this motel for those looking to experience the south rim without breaking the bank.

Non chain motel

The owner is in the process of restoring this historic hotel so it wouldn't be fair to nit pick about all the little things that aren't perfect yet. Especially since they didn't negatively affect my stay. The rooms were scrupulously clean and I liked the wood floors better than carpeting. The owner was very knowledgeable about the area and had tips, suggestions and coupons about places to go.

Enjoyed our stay

We enjoyed our stay and extended it a night . Rich was very helpful and nice. He really opened communication and made us comfortable with asking questions and gave us information and maps regarding hikes, activities and places to eat .
There's a cute little area outside to eat your breakfast. There's bagels cream cheese and jams, coffee OJ, milk, cereal and fruit . The room/bathroom are very clean and remodeled even down to the flooring . The location is also nice, it's walking distance to the resturaunts and shops. Parking was also not an issue.

Cute little motel not far from the Grand Canyon. Rooms clean and beds comfortable! Bathroom was pretty small but functional. If traveling to Arizona in springtime be prepared for the cold! Heater helped but it was still a cold night. Perfect place to stay in the cute town of Williams!

Great place, updated rooms in an historic Route 66 motel, conveniently located in Williams. Good value and short drive to the Grand Canyon. Host provided unmatched attentive service and travel tips that added a unique and personal touch to help us enjoy our day at the Grand Canyon. I especially appreciated that he stayed up to wait for us when we encountered some delays and even had the heater going in our room in advance of our arrival. The seating on the patios outside the room was particularly enjoyable.

Route 66 Experience...

This Motel is very quaint and in the middle of a restoration project. When we pulled up to the property we really questioned what the room would be like. The room was spacious and clean. There was a little room with sink, refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave. It is definately a route 66 experience. The downside is that it doesn't have a hairdryer and maid service is not provided daily. If you want more coffee filters you have to ask for them. Don't expect flat screen tvs or dressers or anything, but a bed a side table. The price seemed high for what is offered and there wasn't a complimentary breakfast offered.

We picked this motel because we were going to the Grand Canyon and wanted to stay in Williams. This motel is under new ownership and we were impressed with the friendliness and service. The owner is in the process of restoring the facility to the original look and colors of the original when it was built in 1936. The room was large although the bathroom was small but still functional.

The motel is only a block or two to the restaurants, shopping and sites of Williams. We would certainly stay here again.

Historic Motel on Route 66

Clean - a bit Spartan - most reasonable rate in area approaching the Grand Canyon - The closer you get, the pricier the room. Charming as a 1936 motel with historic designation. The town of Williams is also charming in a Wild Western mode. I have nothing other than praise for our stay.

hotel closed when we arrived

We arrived at this hotel about 6:30pm to find the lot filled with snow - nothing had been shovelled. We had to tromp through a foot of snow to get to reception only to find it closed! We had to drive around to find another hotel and pay rack rates for our room. The hotel next door told us we weren't the first ones to have this happen to. Hotels.com should removed them from their data base so this doesn't happen to other people.

Quaint, Clean, and Comfortable

This IS Williams. It is an old town. We didn't see any new, modern, flashy hotels. This is an old motel but it was VERY clean with new, comfortable mattresses. The bathroom was very small but clean and the water was HOT! The staff were very friendly. Super fast check in/out. Easy parking! It had 2 separate bedrooms which made it convenient for families and/or 2 couples. Heaters worked great as it was freezing temps.

Road trip

I chose this hotel for the laundromat. It's the first hotel built in Williams, AZ. It has the laundromat across the street in the steak house parking lot. Walking distance to all the shops and train depot. The man at the front desk was working on the roof and when I rung the bell his dog barked to alert him I was there. He was very informed about the area gave us the history of the hotel, the town and Grand Canyon. He walked us to the room and helped us bring stuff in. Explained that the hot water was plentiful but would take a few min to get there. The room was clean with wood floors, walls are real stucco and it was hard to get the room a comfortable temperature when it's 20 degrees outside. The bathroom is small but has new showers and sinks. Bed was comfy.

Route 66 Experience

We had a great stay. We were there for two nights. Rich, the owner, was very helpful and very concerned that we would have a good time. He told us the history of the motel to give us an understanding of what we were about to experience. He was kind enough to explain which restaurants and area attractions would be good to visit.
The room was a throwback to days long ago. It gave a real feel of the “Route 66” experience. We bought the souvenirs and drove the road but this place brought it home. The bed was nice, the wifi worked fine and the television was good. I did keep forgetting the toilet was just behind the door as it was originally built.
This is a small operation so there are some quirks but Rich is a quality guy who wants to give a chance to live in the Route 66 time. Rich is in process of adding updates to the rooms but not changing the feel.

Remodeling is in progress. The room was small and it was difficult to dry/curl hair as there was no where to sit and have access to a mirror. The owner was fabulous and gave lots of great tips on restaurants and sites to see. It will be a great vintage motel when it is completed. Love that there were hardwood floors and not carpet.

Quaint Work In Progress

Owner welcomed us to the site warmly and he was an enthusiastic advocate for the Williams and Grand Canyon areas. Facility is a true motor court motel from the 1930's. Rooms are tight - no room for a chair in our king room. Not what you would expect in a modern facility, but solid construction from days gone by add significantly to the quality of the quiet. Property is 250 yards south of main BNSF line with a train passing by about every 15 minutes 24/7. We slept like babies and only heard one train all night. Facility is also tight on automobile parking and circulation. Not a problem for modern cars, but we drove a '03 Town Car (the last of the land yachts) this trip and had to take extra care to plan for our early-morning exit. Good location vis-a-vis restaurants and brew pubs. I'd come back in my Prius with my girl friend, but I wouldn't come here with kids.

Restoration of ca. 1936 \"motor court\"

This was the first motel or \"motor court\" in Williams, AZ. Williams is where the station for the Grand Canyon railway is located. If driving from the west it is where you turn left for the Canyon. Williams is trying to capitalize on the whole Route 66 nostalgia thing. The whole place is cute, clever and over priced. Entertaining if it's your first visit but annoying after that.

The owners have applied a fresh coat of paint (over many older layers) on the interior of the units. They are clean, comfortable and functional. They are also minimalist by current standards - for example some travelers may be accustomed to a counter top in the bathroom but at the Grand Motel if cant balance to bottle and tooth past on the sink rim you are out of luck. There is free WiFi when it works. There is also cereal and toast in the morning but you must take it back to your room or eat outside in the gazebo in the center of the parking lot. It's not that the owners are earnest and trying very hard but there really isn't much to work with. The place was austere in 1936 and 80 years won't change that.

On a positive note the price is reasonable for Williams if you don't crave full current amenities and the housekeeping was pristine.

Pleasant Surprise!

Nostalgic motel, oldest in Williams, is being rennovated. Bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever had in a motel. Being a 1930's building, it is a little smaller than most modern motels, but owners have done a great job with the space to include the basic items such as fridge, microwave, TV. Outside still needs some work, especially some lighting for night. Parking lot is small but the owner knows how to get everyone in so that one can maneuver. I was fortunate to be able to park in front of the old-fashioned carport! Within walking distance of old town Williams. The owners are incredibly nice, perfect personalities for the hotel business. I won't hesitate to book again the next time I go through Williams!
