Our stay at The Trail Hotel was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome with their friendliness and exceptional service. The room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully maintained, making it easy to relax and enjoy our stay.

The food was another highlight—every meal was delicious and exceeded our expectations. It’s clear that great care is taken in every aspect of the guest experience. We truly enjoyed our time at The Trail Hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable stay with outstanding hospitality. We can’t wait to return!

We did not pre-book at The Trail, but we were glad to get a room there. The rooms were tastefully redone, keeping with the bourbon trail theme. The onsite restaurant and bar was nice. My only complaint was access to our room was not easy to navigate. With lots of luggage you had to go in and out of several outside doors to get to our room. We weren’t the only ones having a difficult time finding our room. Besides that, this is a great hotel.

This hotel is very nice. The staff are awesome, and the dining and bar are excellent. The rooms are comparable to other hotels However, I was a little taken back when we were checking out that they charge $15 per day which they said was for a state tax and amenities. I told them that we did not use any amenities, but they said everyone has to pay the $15 per day. I felt I should have known this before checkout time. If you stay any length of time that could be a considerable amount.

A few things you should fix before the next guest stays in 142.
1) You should put weather stripping around the door frame. Wind from last night storm whistled into the room all night.
2) The electronic shade on the window would not work so we could not raise or lower the shade.
3) The lightbulb over the bedside closest to the door was out.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pool was large and the patio was nicely decorated. We had a good meal and great cocktails in the bar/restaurant. The Trail Hotel is located just out of town, so it was easy to drive to downtown Bardstown or take a taxi. The room was quiet, and the bed was comfortable. We will devinitely come back again!

Our check in didn’t go very smoothly. The front desk clerk charged 3 of our cards after telling my husband the all showed errors, he also did not check us in for our reservation so we were in the system as no show. When our room was ready our keys were not programmed. We did utilize the pool and pool bar until our room was ready. The pool and pool bar were fabulous. Our room was not impressive but it was a standard and it was clean and efficient for a one night stay. We ate dinner at the on site restaurant, the service and food were phenomenal, as was the atmosphere. We sat outside by one of the fire pits for a bit, the area was perfect for drinks and conversation. Our stay was pleasant for the most part just a slight mix up with check in they will hopefully correct. I would highly recommend for singles, couples and families!

I did not stay long enough to make use of the amenities, so I cannot speak on those. I will say that the curtains appeared to cover the window decently however when morning came I found that they did not and the sun was beaming in waking me much earlier than I wanted to be woken up. The other issue I had was that the shower drain was clogged/stopped up because as I was showering off the water level continued to rise in the shower flow until it had covered my feet completely. When I mentioned this to the front desk staff as I was checking out and suggested they have maintenance take a look at it, they didn't seem very concerned. Hopefully they did get it fixed so it doesn't happen to the next guest that stays in the room I was in. Other than that the property seemed ok. it definitely smelled good. Oh and no chocolate milk at breakfast. that was also a bummer had to go to the gas station down the hill for that.

We returned for the second time in just seven months, and the moment you step inside, you remember why. From the moment you walk in, everything feels amazing, the service, the amenities, the atmosphere, even the way the hotel smells.
The ambiance is upscale yet relaxing and cozy; the kind of place where you can unwind over exceptional food and truly great whiskey. The speakeasy is a must visit, and Keaton made the night. He’s smart, funny, welcoming, and incredibly talented. He is the kind of bartender who turns a drink into an experience. He made our visit unforgettable.
The location couldn’t be better, close to the distilleries and the charm of downtown Bardstown. I’m already looking forward to going back.

The Trail Hotel is not A hotel on the bourbon trail, it is THE hotel. Over the past 12 months, my husband and I have made several trips to bourbon country. We've stayed in historic hotels, boutique hotels, and chain hotels. The Trail Hotel is by far the hotel we've enjoyed the most. The facility has been completely rennovated and includes a nice pool, a huge hot tub, a well stocked bar, and fabulous on-site dining. It's conveniently located near many regional attractions. I plan to make The Trail Hotel a regular on future trips to the area.

We loved our stay at the Trail Hotel over Memorial Day weekend. We originally planned for two nights but had to extend our stay after our vehicle broke down and we couldn’t find a rental car or service because of the holiday weekend. The staff were incredibly kind, patient, and helpful throughout the entire situation.

The hotel is a beautifully renovated former Holiday Inn that was transformed into a bourbon boutique hotel while keeping the original historic structure due to historical zoning. The rooms are spacious, including the standard rooms, with cozy wood finishes and rich colors that really bring the bourbon atmosphere throughout the property. The showers are large and beautifully tiled.

There are five bars on-site, including a hidden speakeasy that was a lot of fun. The bartenders are knowledgeable, the drinks are unique, and the wait staff were always friendly and attentive.

The property also has a large pool and a 12-person hot tub, both very clean and clearly well maintained.

Transportation tip: Uber was unreliable in the area and actually stranded us at Maker’s Mark Distillery. Bardstown Taxi was excellent and offered flat rates around town.

Only tiny complaints: there’s no ledge in the shower for easier leg shaving, and the hair dryers are basic, so bring your own if you have thick hair. Bread is not included in your meals, not a deal breaker

Overall, this is a great place to fully experience the bourbon trail atmosphere, and we would absolutely stay again.

This is a beautifully renovated property perfect for bourbon lovers! The bar and speakeasy are fantastic as is the restaurant. The one thing to keep in mind is the hotel is not within walking distance of downtown. We were able to schedule taxis after talking to the hotel staff. Definitely a great place to stay in Bardstown!

This hotel is definitely geared towards people visiting Bardstown to explore the bourbon industry. Neither of us like bourbon but still had a great visit. The hotel is really well done. The food was wonderful and the staff was super friendly. The hotel is only 1 year old so everything is shiny and new.

Our stay at this bourbon-inspired hotel in Kentucky was absolutely outstanding. We stayed for two nights and three days and enjoyed every minute of the experience. The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived — the staff was welcoming, attentive, and truly made us feel at home.

The restaurant was another highlight of our trip. The food was delicious, beautifully prepared, and perfectly fit the bourbon-country atmosphere. Every meal added to the overall experience.

The location could not have been better. It was conveniently located near many of the bourbon distilleries, making it the perfect home base for exploring Kentucky’s bourbon trail. After long days of touring, it was wonderful to return to such a comfortable and charming hotel.

If you are planning a bourbon getaway, I highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be back!

Loved this hotel (motel technically, with outside door entrances but inside a secured gated area ). It’s a highly remodeled former holiday inn, but don’t let that deter you. This is the definition of a boutique hotel. I loved the decor, the amenities, the friendly staff. I wish I could have stayed longer than one night since I would have taken advantage of the pool area, and more. The only (slight) drawback is, since the rooms have outdoor entrances the noise of the outside was much more prominent. However once I went to bed and had my earplugs in, which I use 100% of the time anyway, plus had the fan on, I didn’t not hear any noise at all overnight. I highly recommend this gem of a hotel. I will definitely be back!

We had a negative experience. We stayed 3 nights. On our second night , housekeeping changed our towels but did nothing else to service the room. We reported this to the front desk (Gregory) who said he would take care of it. On the third night, the room was not serviced at all. Housekeeping knocked on our door at 10:30 a.m. and we were still in the room. The housekeeper saw us leave our room about 30 minutes later. When we returned, once again our room had not been serviced. We again reported to the front desk and were told that since we didn't let housekeeping in at 10:30 that morning that there would be no further return to service the room. What??? We were astounded and insisted that the room be serviced. The desk person (Gregory again) took care of it but not graciously...not even an apology.. It was our fault that we did not accommodate housekeeping's schedule. We checked out the next morning and the front desk manager (Kelly) was present so we described our experience. She was very apologetic and comped us breakfast. Please know that the staff in the restaurant and bar were wonderful along with the desk manager during the day, Nick. The food in the restaurant was good too.

So this was my third or fourth visit to the trail. We come down from the Chicago area. This was our best experience yet, the hotel has world any remaining bugs, the beer taps were working, the place was pretty packed, and I finally saw the speakeasy! Wow, not sure how I missed that the last two times, what a cool room. This is a great hotel if you’re down on the Bourbon Trail. Very cigar friendly, plenty of areas outside to enjoy the property. Every time I go, I see people in the pool and in the hot tub, it’s really a nice space annd people are always enjoying it. When we are back in Bardstown we will be sure to book again. As far as the rooms, the beds are comfortable, the linens are great and the pillows are comfortable. The shower is large, the water pressure is good, these things are all important when traveling.

Everything was excellent about this trip except for the dining room. Breakfast was poor. Five dollar charge for toast with breakfast for one slice of unbuttered burnt toast! Because of the poor breakfast, we switched our dinner reservations to somewhere else. The facilities were excellent, however. We loved the hot tub. The speakeasy was a lot of fun with excellent drinks! We would definitely stay here again, but would not eat unless things improve significantly. People in the hot tub said the same thing about the dining room.

We were completely blown away by this hotel. Never in a million years would we have expected this level of design and experience from a repurposed Holiday Inn—it felt like something straight out of Palm Springs.

This is easily one of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The design, finishes, and overall aesthetic are exceptional. Whoever was responsible for bringing this space to life deserves serious recognition—it’s that well done.

The amenities are just as impressive, from the pool and hot tub to the hidden speakeasy tucked inside the hotel (which is a must-find). Every detail feels intentional and thoughtfully executed.

The beds were incredibly comfortable—to the point where my wife and I genuinely didn’t want to get out of them. And the staff? Equally outstanding—welcoming, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay.

We’re already looking forward to coming back. Next time, this will be the only place we stay—we’ll happily drive everywhere else just to be here.

The hotel is very pretty and updated. Having a heated pool and hot tube open all year is a plus. The other amenities are an additional cost. What I was disappointed in was the size of the rooms, the heat ac are very loud, if your room is faces the expressway you hear the traffic and the room needed a detailed cleaning. Which is disappointing since their price point is about $80 or so more a night compared to other local hotels in the area.

We had the BEST stay here!! We are coming back. Everyone here is amazing. Best meal, room, Bourbon lesson & tasting! Keton & Mary were exceptional. Best sour dough this side of anywhere!!! They loved on our dog Aussie! The bourbon coffee was exceptional in the morning! Who knew you could find sea-food like this in KY??? Stay here-I guarantee you will love it.

It’s a new property so we understand there will be growing pains. But the hotel needs to be more transparent with daily fees like “amenity fees” ($15) which wasn’t divulged until we checked out. Not a major cost but remind guests of that fee when checking in. Also, rooms need to be cleaned a bit better before guests check in. We had spider webs in corners of the room.
