Terrible place, no outdoor pool in use this season

The hotel is very old, bed are not that comfortable, there are all sorts of noises especially at night. I was scared both nights I stayed in as a woman. Didn’t feel safe.
I booked this hotel because had a pool advertised but the pool was not in service which was disappointing and the services are definitely not updated. Breakfast was very average.
It’s a shame that the hotel from outside looks amazing but inside needs a renovation and needs updating.

My room had a strong stench of cigarettes which never seemed to disappear. I think the previous guests smoked inside the room. Also, there was a forgotten plate with sweets on the cupboard. The outdoor swimming pool was closed which wasn’t written anywhere on the website, and the main reason I booked here was because of the outdoor pool. The staff barely spoke Bulgarian. The only good thing is the indoors swimming pool and the staff taking care of it. The two guys - the chemist caring for the water and the lifeguard were so kind!

We had a three night stay in Plodiv. We primarily choose this hotel for its pool. The first issue is only one of the two pools is functional ( the indoor one ) and the outside pool has clearly not been functioning for years. The hotel structure is beautiful but it’s in desperate need of modernisation. For example the beds while clean were very hard and aged and the rooms were very dark and gloomy. The staff was helpful and friendly ( by Bulgarian standard’s ) despite the condition of the hotel.

This is a traditional style large grand hotel in the centre of town. While it is less \"grand\" than it presumably once was, it still delivers good levels of comfort, room size, and service. The location is conveniently very close to the old town, historic attractions, parks and restaurants.

I had a comfortable stay and the hotel’s location is very convenient. However I don’t think it lives up to the standard of a 4 star hotel. The room was old and outdated, carpets were stained, wall paint was peeling off, there was mold around the bathtub, the balcony was dirty. It must’ve been amazing back in the day but it is in desperate need of a renovation.
Also on the last day there was no water. I realize it’s probably not the hotel’s fault but there should’ve been some kind of warning beforehand or a compensation afterwards.

It is a grad hotel Soviet style closed to the old historical centre of the city. It is part of a huge casino with most guests coming for gambling. It is conveniently positioned. Rooms are of a good sized but outdated, tied, not fit with enough electric points for charging you phone or a tablet. Instead of a show it was an old style bath. Was not able to use swim g pool. They sell tickets to it to outsiders. It was so busy- no chance to swim. Massages in spa are cheap but you get what you pay for- not great quality. Breakfast not great either . It is clean but smell if cigarets is everywhere. Stuff at the reception do not speak English good enough. Communications were difficult. Still, if comeback to Plovdiv , will stay there for the convenience of the position and good size of the rooms.

Check in Staff are thoroughly miserable and in no way helpful. Breakfast ok. Bar on side ( not part of the hotel ) is very nice. Sinatras bar also very good. Gym dated, rooms tired and worn. Cleaner never came on 2nd day at all. Needs modernising, as hotel looks dated in places. Car park is payable but handy. Location is brilliant for the centre of Plovdiv.
Would stay again, only for its location - certainly not for the lack of charm from the staff!

Hotel is in major need of updating. Looks beautiful from the outside but extremely old inside. Beds feel like sleeping on a cardboard box. Bathtub/shower has black mold and the caulking is missing in places. The hallway carpets are red with huge stains. The hotel smells of mold and mildew. The breakfast buffet has a few hot items but mostly cold. Drinks are extremely limited. The saving grace for this hotel is the pool on an outdoor terrace and a small indoor pool in the spa. It’s also in the perfect location within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. It has a large parking lot as well. If I didn’t need the pool for the kids I would not have chosen to stay there.

Not the friendliest of staff at reception. Very friendly gentlemen at the front door greeting guests and helping with the luggage. Hotel is extremely old and outdated. The carpet in the hallway is stained in several areas. The rooms have a musty moldy smell to them. The beds are probably the most uncomfortable beds I’ve slept in. The bathroom is old and the walls around the shower and tub desperately need a good cleaning. The breakfast is decent but it’s over at 10:00 and they don’t care how many people are still there, they take all of the food and drinks away. The best thing about this hotel is the pool which is large but also very shallow. Also the location is great for walking, shopping and restaurants.

The hotel is located very centrally, close to the old town and at a big street to easily access the highway if you're travelling by car. The hotel is slightly outdated and could do with a renovation. One of the restaurants (Victoria Bar) was recently renovated and is beautiful.
Staff in general seemed to not be too pleased to be working there though. At the pool, I checked with the spa receptionist where the pool was, just to find that there were no towels at the pool and I had to return to the spa reception to get them. The outdoor pool was filled with water and looked beaitful, but for some reason was not in operation. At breakfast, it's first come, first served, so if you have breakfast after 10am expect to have the choice narrowed down to toast and jam. Nothing is being replaced. Overall the stay was ok, room is clean, it covers the basics but was nothing special.

Family with two kids stayed at the Trimontium while visiting Plovdiv. We enjoyed the rare bathtub in Bulgaria for the kids. Shopping and eating was within an easy walk and even old city is walkable. Lots of sights to see near the hotel. Parking is an extra 8 Lev but well worth it if you have a car.

Once symbol of magnificence, today the least value

I visited the hotel with my girlfriend and I am unhappy with my choice to stay at this hotel.

The hotel is perfectly fine to spend a few nights in downtown Plovdiv. The thing is, it is one of the most expensive ones in the town and for that money one would hope for at least some amenities in the room. And while the place is gorgeous from the outside, the rooms inside would have massive difficulties to compete with the ones in cheap 3 star newly built hotels or even motels. Some of the problems:

* TV channels availability is extremely limited - only about 20 channels. 15 of these 20 channels are in Turkish language.

* Lack of lighting in the room. For the first time in my life, I am visiting a hotel room without at least a light bulb on the ceiling of the room. The hotel targets business travelers, yet any work was impossible to be done after 17:00.

* One cleaining lady just entered the room in the morning without knocking and woke us up. Highly unprofessional.

* Bathroom door cannot be locked

* \"Gym Studio\" does not even have a basic benchpress

In conclusion, the hotel is just out of touch - because of its magnificent building and rich history, it is just not suited for budget travelers; at the same time, no investments are made for it to renovate it and make it possible to compete with smaller, but much more cozy and comfortable hotels. On the contrary, one can get the feeling the main focus is the casino as the only source of income and growth..SAD !

Glossed up from outsiide but rather tired inside

The room was large and overall ok, except for the beds. I like a firm mattress but it was so hard, it felt like the same as sleeping on the floor and it actually hurt your sides.. Air conditioning worked well and the room was very clean. Good supply of clean towels. There was no kettle in the room for making tea or coffee. I actually went out and bought a cheap kettle.The breakfasts were good with a variety of choice of food. Bread disappointing though.

I've always been curious about this hotel and wanted to be a guest one day. So, many years later, there I was at the historic Trimontium Hotel. It was overall a good experience. They have a very decent breakfast, lots of choices from cereal and pastries to cured meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables and drinks... I noticed that the clean cold beverage cups had some dishwasher water retained in the bottom, and I thought that was unpleasant. The airconditioner in my room was noisy but very efficient during the biggest heatwave of the summer. I actually had to turn it off at night but the room remained quite cool. The tub in the bathroom has a fabric shower curtain but no plastic liner, so the curtain gets completely soaked in water... I thought that was miss... The outside pool looked great but I didn't use it as I had other things to do in town... Thanks for the free fruit basket, by the way.
P.S. The wifi connection was just fine, and unlike other reviewers, I had no ussues connecting to the Internet.

We arrived after a long day of driving on a very hot day with our MG's, the staff were excellent with booking us in. We were a group of 18 people and Specifically Ana, the receptionist and her male colleague, I forget his name. They were fantastic! The check in was very fast so we could go to our rooms and have a shower!!

Stayed in a 'suite' - unfortunately it smelt very much of smoke even though we requested a non-smoking room. For the price, it was not worth it to be honest. You could stay at another hotel for half the price and get a much nicer room, everything felt very dated except the hotel's reception area.

Amazing location, ok service, AWFUL wifi.

The potential for an amazing hotel is limitless, it is in the best possible location, however you feel that the staff know this and tend not to offer the same service as other hotels. Additionally, perhaps most importantly as a business user the Wifi was awful, continually dropping out and having to reconnect, I have stayed here a few times in different parts of the hotel and it's always the same. I literally only stay here as a last resort.

In the middle of Plovdiv...

This is a very good hotel that is located ideally in the center of Plovdiv and a block or so from all the shops and restaurants in this beautiful city. It is also a relatively short walk/hike from the Central Bus Station (about a mile) and to most of the major sites in the city, such as the Roman Stadium, the Roman Theater, the Nebet Tepe, and others. The pricing for this hotel is reasonable. Though Ramada Trimontium is not new and the most upscale of hotels (it is an older one), the friendly and helpful staff and the general comfort of the room make up for this. So does the quality of the breakfast, which is included in the price of your stay and is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had anywhere in Europe (they have a variety of very good food and in great quantity, such as scrambled eggs, freshly cooked and delicious bacon, and various cheeses and fruits, among other things). The restaurant also has very inexpensive and good quality dishes available for lunch and dinner. Want to visit Plovdiv (and you should)? Then stay here.

A grand style old European hotel

This is the kind of hotal that is no longer built: high ceilings, wide corridors, very generous public space. There are pools and a casino for those so inclined, but the basic hotel architecture (the rooms have been refurbished) speaks about an age that elsewhere has passed into history. The hotel offers an uncluttered, relaxing environment.

Stayed here for Business in Nov 2015. Hotel is now old and tired in need of depserate update, shower head was just barely hanging on, room wasn't properly cleaned every day, nor was the mini bar restocked. Gym was barely working, the running machines both out of order. Although was good to see opening hours extended to 7am. Ok to stay for a couple of days, as the location is brilliant, but in need of a renovation!

Very unfriendly staff on the reception.

An ordinary room with a bed size 1,40 m was offered to us instead of the busyness room with king size bed we've booked. When we asked for the room we've booked, the officer on the reception told us that \"this is the standard in Bulgaria\". We kindly asked to change the room, but she continued to insist that this is the room we have booked as this is the standard in the country. We kindly asked to speak with her boss, she didn't want to contact any superior at the front desk or in the office of the hotel. After long discussion we got a business room. It took 45 min to check in. We were exhosted after all discussions with unfriendly ton.
The sink and the toilet pot were in very bad shape. Yes, on the next day the front manager gave some excuses to us but our stay was destroyed totally.

Week long stay for business

Hotel is nice with good facilities, however these are limited by time with the pool and gym both closing at 8pm and not opening till 8am which makes it impossible to use before starting work. I had really poor wifi connection in my room this time round which I reported 3 times to the reception. There was no improvement. It varied between 1 bar of signal to cutting off completely every 5 minutes. The reception repeatedly gave me log in details which I said I already had and then sent an electrician to my room who didn't know what to do. This was unhelpful and I was surprised to have such poor connection in what many would use for a business hotel.

The room was lovely, I was surprised to find a I had a jacuzzi and awesome shower. The bed was not the most comfortable i've ever slept in. The food leaves A LOT to be desired.

Good locations, however the hotel is dated. A good cleaning, new carpets and some paint and it would be better. Throw in a new mattress and make it non-smoking and you have a great hotel. Alot of history in and around the hotel. Good service and safe parking, not a big leap to make it better.

This hotel is quite comfortable and the staff provides good service. The air conditioning in the rooms is mediocre at best, however. The hotel location is a convenient one beside a large square with plenty of parking spots. It is situated at one end of the main pedestrian street from which one reaches the principal street that angles off uphill in order toward the numerous fascinating sites of Old Plovdiv.

Good, but.....

I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The staff were helpful, the breakfasts were very good, the swimming pool is huge, and I payed a competitive price for the room. However, the air conditioning in my room and in my friends' room worked poorly, so the rooms were uncomfortably hot and somewhat humid. I was surprised to find that no irons were provided in the rooms and none were available to borrow. The only way to iron my clothes was to use the hotel's expensive in-house service.

Fairly good locaion at the south end of the pedestrian mall. Parking in a large lot right out front was $5.50 a day. Breakfast buffet was good. Outdoor pool on 2nd floor was very nice. Overall this is an older, large city hotel with all the amenities you need.

This hotel is fabulous! Excellent location - walking distance to old town. Lovely breakfast (which isn't samey-samey) everyday. Courteous and friendly staff. Amazingy HUGE indoor swimming pool (certainly bigger than any in UK I've seen!). Good restaurant with reasonable prices for dinner. Room is nice - comfy with adequate essentials provided. Amazing panaoramic view from the bar as well - ALL this for a bargain rate per night - I highly recommend this hotel!

Sense of history

Was impressed by the sense of grandeur, with large, high-ceilinged room, old-fashioned decor, wide staircase and landings. It was pretty quiet; we had just one night en route to Sofia next day. Desk and restaurant staff were very pleasant; enjoyable meal in similarly notable dining hall. Very much enjoyed the stay, although Plovdiv did not look at its best in dismal weather the next day!

The hotel is situated in the centre of the town . There is noi need to hire a car or a cab to make a tour of the town.The staff is friendly.

Very very smokey...

The first impression you get when you enter the hotel is the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke, make no mistake this is a smoking hotel. Even if you book a non smoking room all that means is that you will not be smoking in there. We stayed here twice, both times in non smoking rooms which smelt of smoke; the second room even had used cigarette buts outside the window from the previous guests, even the ‘fresh’ bed linen smelt of smoke.

The hotel does have no smoking areas in its restaurants but the separation is hardly effective, all of the floors have public smoking areas so as soon as you leave your room you are hit with the smell of smoke.

The 5th floor panoramic bar is a no smoking area but as we were apparently the only non smoking guests they were not bothering to open it. If you have the slightest aversion to the smell of smoke or you suffer with asthma or any other breathing difficulties this is not the place for you, that said smoking seems to be endemic in Plovdiv so you may not find anywhere better.

Breakfast is served in a no smoking environment but there is no effective separation between the breakfast area and the lobby which smells of smoke so you need to head right to the far end of the breakfast area to escape the smell.

On the plus side the hotel is well maintained, the rooms are very spacious and the staff are generally very helpful and friendly. There was a large and varied spread for breakfast including both local and international food which sets you up for the day.

If you have the time, take a walk out to the old town and the roman amphitheatre which you can see from the 5th floor panorama lounge.

Got Everything but to Eastern European Standard

This hotel has a great location right beside the pedestrianised city centre, and within easy walking distance of the old city. The main restaurant and rooms to the front actually look. up the hill to the old Roman Ampitheatre. It should be noted that the hotel is a casino as well as a hotel, and this is in operation most of the time - a plus or minus depending on your outlook. All facilities are there, but some need a bit of attention. Rooms have wooden floors and most of what you need except for hairdryers. Comfortable enough with fitness and other facilities available. Probably as good as you will get in the city, but 3 star european standard would be appropriate.

Great entrance to the hotel and foyer - very nice greeting by the receptionist -even though a bulgarian woman pushed passed us as the receptionist was on the phone also asking questions.room was clean and comfortable.The air-con is a little out of date and we were in a mini heat wave which did not help.lovely swimming pool and more than grateful in the heat.A negative which i will pass on to hotel.com was the panorama bar was shut and had been for 2 years ,which was a shame as the view from up there was great of the city and looking out onto the amphitheatre-it was a shame as they still had it advertised on the inhouse tv with a happy hour !!!the happy hour in the lobby bar was for desserts!!!not quite if you were desperate for a beer at 6lev a tad dear than elsewhere-great location for the main drag and the staff were pleeasant and cheerful.

The hotel is no western group chain hotel like sofitel etc but that is what I found most refreshing about it. While you should not look too closeley as the part under the sink is not painted etc. However if you want a nice spacious room, good service and old world charm stay here as opossed to a generica chain hotel.
