Stayed at The Fern Kochi for one night before starting a 6-day trip through Kerala and it was a solid choice.

The property has a cool vibe and feels a bit different from your typical hotel, which I liked. Some parts are a little dated, but everything was clean and worked well, so it didn’t take away from the stay.

Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, which made things easy, especially for a quick stopover. Food was ok, nothing over the top but definitely reliable enough for breakfast. There's a better option for dinner around the corner.

One thing to keep in mind is that it’s a bit isolated and near the port area of the city..you’ll need a car to get around or into the main parts of Kochi. That said, it also makes it quieter and more relaxed.

Overall, a good, easy stay and a nice way to kick off a longer trip through Kerala.

We had three rooms booked for a party of 6. The bathroom in one of the room was smelly and remained so even after the staff did some cleaning there.
Most of the towels had a mildewy smell. I'd say about half the towels. Finally, the drain in the shower does not keep up with the tap. As you shower the soapy water starts to pool at your feet. Post shower you need to quickly wash your feet again. When I complained about this, they sent an electrician to fix it who said that is just how the plumbing works.
Each of those issues costs a start in the review. The staff is courteous and tries to be helpful. They are likely operating within constraints that they have no control over.
All in all, it was an experience I would not want to repeat.
... oh.. one more thing: the pillows are massive - not sure who can sleep with their neck at the angle that imposes on your neck. They do bring a standard and sensibly sized pillow if you ask.
The overall experience was far worse than would be expected at the prices the hotel charges. And I can't account for gap between my experience and what the ratings say. My guess is that the locals have different tastes and expectations. My living and traveling has mostly been in North America and Europe.

The stay was really great. The staff was super helpful. We were travelling with a baby and they were understanding and accommodating to all our requests! The restaurant staff even played with her allowing us to eat. The food was really taste and the spread for breakfast and dinner was expansive and tasty irrespective of the type of cuisine. Comfortable, spacious rooms. The bed however was a bit small and the mattress needed changing. Good, safe location. The restaurant is the best part - I had 3 excellent meals for dinner. The chef made everything in an authentic style. Staff are also brilliantly trained. Ayush and Eldrin are very good at their jobs.

This would be one of my longest reviews :
I had the pleasure of staying at Trident with my family, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The staff's hospitality, attentiveness, and friendliness left a lasting impression on us, making our stay truly memorable.

The staff went out of their way to make us feel important and comfortable throughout our stay. It was evident that they took great pride in ensuring that every guest felt welcomed and well taken care of.

Our room was neat and well-maintained and amenities provided added a touch of luxury that we truly appreciated.

The entire property radiated an air of elegance and richness. The cozy ambiance created a perfect setting for relaxation and unwinding. The highlight for us was the backyard, a serene oasis that was simply amazing. We spent hours there, enjoying the peacefulness and beauty of the surroundings.

The restaurant staff were equally impressive, offering excellent service and going above and beyond to cater to our dining needs. Their proactive and helpful nature made every meal a delightful experience.

One of the most heartwarming surprises during our stay was the bon voyage cake and gathering organized by the hotel. It was a thoughtful gesture that made us feel like valued guests and added a personal touch to our departure.

Since I raised the formal complaint, the team genuinely tried their best to make up and I appreciate it. But at times it felt it was a bit too much.

Trident (Oberoi) hospitality is unparalleled. They are best, even better than Taj. The staff does their best with whatever they have. If the rooms are busy, they are happy to serve you the welcome drink and get something done to have you taken care of. If you don't like the options on the Menu, they are happy to cook something you like. If you want a recommendation for a local item they are honest and provide pointers if they don't know the exact item. Its simple honest goodness and they do it the best.

While this is an old hotel, the upkeep is excellent, everything just works. Only pain point, Just the locality is a low point. This area has other nice hotels. Yet! Since the Airport has moved. It seems empty during the evening. We were lucky to have a self drive rental, so going places was always easy.

Fantastic service from all staff, helpful and polite. The rooms and hotel are clean and comfortable. The pool is clean and open with food and drink service available to you don't have to get up to order food. Unlike the majority of hotels in Kerala, the hotel has a license to sell alcohol. As a summary:

Positives - staff cannot do enough to help, lovely hotel to stay in, rooms have A/C, 2 x 500ml bottles of water provided each day, flavoured (with fruit) water available for free by the pool, food tasty, free to use gym (albeit small).

Negatives - food takes a while to arrive after ordering, most clientele appear to be over 50.

Things to consider - the hotel is next door to a naval base which launches planes and has \"siren drills\" every day. Not annoying enough to be a negative for me.

A little out of town but transport is readily available. We did not walk around nearby but there did appear to be some restaurants and shops around.

The hotel itself could do with some updating as it is vastly different to Trident BKC and this is quite misleading in terms of Oberoi brand.

Location is a factor that really works against the hotel. The cellphone network in the room was horrible with no data and the complimentary Internet is a joke and doesn't work most of the time. Very limited menu and the restaurant is over priced, but with almost no other options in the vicinity there is little else one cam do. The staff were extremely well spoken, helpful and provided great service. The hotel is located too far from the jetty to walk in the heat and it was not the easiest thing to get an uber/ola in the area. The rooms do not justify the price, I wouldn't pay more than rs 3000 per night at the maximum for the deluxe room at this time of the year (Apr)

Great choice for business travel

I had an incredibly comfortable stay and the staff always made sure that everything was in perfect order. I only ate breakfast and that was pretty good - their French toast is especially good. It's far away from places like Oberon Mall, Lulu Mall etc and is also a good hour away from the airport - but is closer to the vacationing side of Cochin. The manager had noticed that I was checking out on my birthday and had arranged for absolutely fantastic butterscotch cake to be sent to my room the previous night, which was an incredibly nice gesture. I'd absolutely love to stay there again, next time. Also, their free soap, shampoo etc is Kama Ayurveda which is really good, high quality stuff and not the usual cheap hotel toiletries. For those who care, that's a fabulous perk. The gym is a little tiny, but functional.

Fantastic hotel in a nice quiet part of Cochin, yet only a few minutes from the boat jetty that brings you to more livelier spots. The pool is glorious, as is the food, if a little pricey. Only downside to this hotel is that you have to pay for wifi, but there is a business centre beside reception thats free for guests.

THE ROOM SIZE IS OK HOWEVER ROOM DECOR IS OLD AND OLD STYLED AND DOES NOT MATCH THE FIVE STAR QUALITY. THE BATHROOM DECOR IS DARK AND IT IS VERY EASY TO GET WATER LOGGING THERE. THE BED SIZE IS OK BUT THE BEDS ARE OLD AND VERY HIGH FROM THE GROUND. FELT LIKE SLEEPING NEAR TO CEILING. THE SWIMMING POOL TIMINGS ARE POOR AND LIMITED. IT SHOULD BE OPEN 24 X 7. THE RESTAURANT AND FOOD IS MODERATE. IT IS NOT A FIVE STAR QUALITY AND NOT ENOUGH CHOICES. THE HOTEL STAFF AND MEMBERS ARE DRESSED IN AN OLD STYLE. NEED TO IMPROVE ALMOST EVERYTHING. Relaxing retreat from the city life

The Trident experience was enhanced by the care of the staff and the quality of the food paralleled by an atmosphere of calm, peaceful and relaxing choices after a full day of sight seeing.
The charm of this hotel was evident yet some of the amenities were outdated and the size of the rooms were limited. Began my trip here and also ended my stay on the area here and allowed me to ease my way into the faster pace of everyday Indian life by slowing down in a leisurely way in this peaceful setting.

Very polite staff but inefficient. It took forever to get a cup of coffee and even longer to get the bill. I can't understand how so many staff members all over the place and yet we are kept waiting. this is a lovely place but not in a spot that compliments its level of luxury. The staff are wonderful and the food is quite good altho pricey. I do wish these more exclusive hotels would not charge for WIFI tho and that service was difficult to connect to.
the main drawback to the hotel from my point of view is the lack of ability to get fresh air. No windows open so you are forced to rely on the AC or nothing. AC works fine but the air that is recirculated from throughout the hotel INCLUDES the smoking rooms and I could feel that immediately I turned on the AC.

We stayed several days in this hotel and could not have had a more relaxing and comfortable stay, as the staff were well trained, friendly and helpful. You cannot walk straight out into the bustle of the historic area, but it is only a short rickshaw drive, or walk and ferry distance away, and quieter and more relaxed for that.

Overall a very good hotel and value for money. I would stay again. Generally difficult to fault.

Nice Hotel

Very nice boutique hotel. Stayed with my parents. The service and people at the hotel were extremely polite, helpful and pleasant. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

Our recent stay with family

You can not fault the hotel and the staff but the restaurant has a lot to ask for. The service is poor , the staff move around aimlessly and look like clueless.
We stayed for the gala dinner on the New years eve. The food was awful , had no taste and I do not know which nationalities it was catering for . It was certainly not Indian . I think they may be trying to please Russians.
The menu certainly needs to improve with more emphasis on Indian and especially Kerala .
The charges for the New Years 's gala dinner were exorbitant and the food so disappointing. We certainly get better Indian meals in England.

My stay was made wonderful due to the excelent service of all the staff of the hotel from front office to F&B to house keeping to bell services to chauffer services by Avis and every body else including the hotel retails shop staff. Am very pleased. TQ

Excellent service and facilities in Cochin

For my first time traveling to India, I can say that Trident hotel gave me an excellent great impression. Friendly and helpful staff, they even let me use the business center computer to skype my partner for free! Loved it! The hotel building, decoration and rooms are lovely. Buffet and a la carte menu offer a variety of local and international options. If you want to take the ferry to visit fort Cochin or the Dutch palace, don't walk to the ferry... The walk is in a busy street without any attraction, dirty and messy. Better to ask the hotel to arrange a tuck tuck! Their spa has also great massages ! Worth a try!

BEST PLACE to Stay

We had such an enjoyable time at the Trident. The staff was professional and very helpful. They also seemed genuinely happy that we were there! They went out of their way to help us. I can not say enough about how great this experience was. It made our time in India the best. Thank you staff at Trident. hope to see you all again soon.

Lovely oasis in Kochi

we recently spent 2 nights at the Trident and would recommend it. The rooms were lovely, the setting beautiful, the restaurant terrific but what really sets it apart is the friendliness of its staff. They just couldn't have been nicer - from checkin to checkout.

Not much around the hotel but it was quite and just what we were looking for after being in the middle of so many busy cities in India. We loved the staff so very much.
