Whilst not a 5 star booking the reception and bar staff were super friendly and helpful.
I booked 2 rooms over 3 nights both with bathrooms.

No tea and cofee facilities but the bar more than happy to provide a free tea or coffee.
On 3rd night got offered complementary breakfast of tea , juice , toast and spreads. Not offered for first 2 nights not sure why ? Not a problem as plenty of places very nearby to grab a coffee and breakfast.
Air con unit very dated large and noisy .
Second room had no blinds or curtains so difficult to sleep.
Wasnt expecting the ritz but the people and including jazz musicians were great.
Bar looks a bit dark dingy but hey its renown for the music and acts and the bar staff light up the place

Loved our stay at the Rex Hotel. Great location, friendly staff and very clean. Room was basic but has everything we needed (bed was very comfortable). Although located on the first floor we found the hotel to be quiet and had great sleep. Obviously you can hear the Jazz acts playing but it honestly never bothered us at all. Food was also very good and the outside seating area was great to relax and eat in the sun. Stayed 5 nights at the Rex and have no negative comments to make. We had en-suite room and personally wouldn’t do the shared bathroom but that’s just us. Found the Rex excellent value for money and would definitely return.

Stayed at the Rex during peak FIFA madness—location is excellent, staff are not only friendly and helpful, but thoughtful, such as offering to carry my bag up the stairs after checking it for me while I waited for my room to be ready (I was early). Rooms are simple, spare, and immaculately clean—this isn’t the Ritz, but people who want to stay at the Ritz can stay at the Ritz. This here is a honest, working class hotel for honest, working class people—especially those who like a very cold pint and great music downstairs. Will absolutely stay here again.

I (solo traveller) came for an event and wanted to overnight downtown. The Rex is a facility from a different era; … no glass and brass vibe here. But that’s ok for some, including me. Value (relative to $800-$1000/nite) was great and the proximity to major downtown venues and amenities was excellent.

The Rex responded very quickly to any communications and provided great information. They were very accommodating with storing our bags until we could check in (we arrived early morning). The room was exactly as advertised; small but clean and comfortable. Lots of shelves to store your stuff. The AC works great.
The breakfast was very good and the waiter was fantastic and had great information about the surrounding area. We didn't stay for any of the music but I can confirm that we could not hear anything in our room regarding the music. We came for a Blue Jays game and it's an easy walk to the stadium. I'd stay again. It's also very close to the subway which was a great way to travel to and from the airport.

Air conditioning in the room sounded like a jet engine . Would love to see the staff maintain AC units . We put the “please clean room” door tag on multiple days and only had the staff come in and clean on one of the days. It was also really hard to sleep with the music from the jazz club downstairs . Not going to stay here again even for the reasonable price point … there much nicer hostel style locations in TO

I was pleasantly surprised to find the room extremely clean, and there was no noise from other guests. I was on the 3rd floor, and I wore earplugs at night because of the street noise (which is bad everywhere in the downtown, regardless of hotel). Staff were friendly and helpful. The twin bed was very comfortable and pillows were as great. The toilet was across the hall, full bathroom with shower down the hall. For the price, I was very impressed, and the location was perfect for a conference at the Sheraton.

The property is close to all the locations which are within walking distance which is the best part. The property was clean with friendly staff. No breakfast. Air conditioning is old and makes lot of noise. In a way, it is ok as you won't hear any outside noise! No private washrooms in the room. Have common washrooms. Rooms have washbasins. No elevator. Good to place to stay for quick visits/short stays.

The room and bathroom are small because it an old building. We felt we got at least what we paid for. It was great to be in walking distance of CNTower, Roger’s Stadium, etc. The jazz bar was cool as well. The smallness of the room meant your suitcases had to be on the bed to access them. Great staff.

This was my first stay at the Rex and it was awesome! The staff are particularly great and the music acts were amazing. I've never watched a Jazz performance live before and I was captivated watching the Saturday main event, which was Don Byron and NOJO. I ended up staying through both sets and then the late night performance which was a group called Flintlock, who were also great. I booked Sunday night as well and had another great show with the Steve Holt Jazz Quintet.

For meals, I had the chicken fingers on Sunday night and the BLT and home fries when I was checking out on Monday. Both meals were very good, reasonably priced and the portions on the chicken fingers were huge.

My room was very nice and surprisingly quiet considering the hotel's location. The bed was comfortable and the price was one of the best values in Toronto. I booked everything a few months in advance though and I would recommend you book your rooms and buy any tickets for the shows ahead of time as both shows were sold out and I heard their rooms are being booked for the summer already.

I am definitely making this hotel a regular stop for my frequent trips to Toronto.

If you're passing by Toronto or looking for something more affordable and not shady this is it. Staff was very friendly, the food was delicious, the location was convenient for public transportation, and the musicians performing are very talented. Though we didn’t experience the show at night, my friends and I got to see the band playing in the afternoon. Staff, musicians, and other customers were all friendly. Only complaint is you can tell it’s an older building that needs a touch up. Our room had paint chipping and cracking, the floor was uneven on one spot and our bathroom sliding door was broken. Also recommend bringing bathroom essentials, the soap provided is in a hand dispenser in the shower. However, for any short trip I can see my friends and I revisiting.

LOUD! Loud outside big time and not soundproofed and for the 3 nights there I slept super little! Even out in halls and etc.
When I wrote off Expedia I did not get any replies and they do not have an email option on their website either.
1st room was so dirty and in terrible shape. TV had lines through it too. Plus so loud as outside there was a loose metal grate that made tons of noise each car driving over it all day and all night. I asked on quiet in advance but even when I switched rooms the next night I still got street side and not the other side for weird no reasoning my way but: hotel almost full.
Housekeeper was non engaging and not happy as I told her there was no body wash but the dispenser was not working much and did not really need the attitude.
Just one of my very worst stays ever!, anywhere.

I booked the room late in the evening and didn’t spot that it was a shared bathroom. However, there was a sink in the room, a toilet a few doors down the corridor and the second toilet/shower room was a few doors further on. The shower room was clean and fully stocked. The shower itself was one of the best I have experienced. So we were very happy with the accommodation.
The hotel location is excellent, a few minutes walk from everything. The hotel is home to a great jazz/blues club and there was no noise audible in our room, my wife and I slept very well both nights. The food in the club/bar is very good and well priced, so much so that on the second evening we ate in the club and stayed for the music. The staff are very professional, friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Rex to visitors.

First time staying at the Rex hotel. Honestly the hotel room itself was pretty much what we were expecting. It was clean and a fair size. Seemed pretty quiet as well. I will say though that the bed was not great, and the pillows were not great, and I wish there was a mini fridge in our room. Also, we wanted to go to the bar downstairs that was attached to the hotel for a couple of drinks. There was a jazz band playing. There was only one hour left of the show when we got there, and they wanted to charge us $50 for entry for us to have a drink and watch the show. If you are staying at the hotel I feel like this should be included. We did not end up going in there to have a drink because I didn’t need that costing us an additional $50. We ended up going elsewhere for a drink. Not sure if we will be staying here again or not.
